SAP Implementation on Limited Bandwidth- Satellite Connection

Hi All,
I have an implementation scenario in which client has an overseas office connected by a 1 mbps satellite connection. We are proposing implementation of multiple instances.
I would like to seek information on the performance of SAP GUI/Web GUI on limited bandwidth connection as the bandwidth will get further downgraded to 512 kbps in the future.
Are there any tools available to enhance SAP performance in limited bandwidth environment. Please let me know of any documentation which explains SAP implementations with bandwidth constraints.
Thanks & Regards
Rasheed

hi rasheed,
there are several consideration you might want to consider ?
1. how many users on remote office will connect through that satellite connection ?
2. you can also try low speed connection setting (on SAPGUI). This is useful when you have limited bandwidth.
3. how big is your users (on remote office) will acquire from SAP server ?
maybe another SAP Gurus will add more checlists.

  • How to check SAP utiliztion in total bandwidth

    Hi Techies,
Is there any way to find SAP utiliztion on total bandwidth for one particualr user id.
This can help us to analize the network utiliztion and upgradation plan.
*In ST06 we can check the LAN connectivity, but i want to know the utiliztion of bandwidth
    Regards,
    Nick Loy

    Hi,
You can check network response for particular user from ST06 "LAN CHECK BY PING". Select the user/terminal and perform ping.
For LAN Check by Ping, standdard response times are:
    - In a local area network (LAN) : <20 milliseconds
    - In a "fast" Wide Area Network (WAN) (for example, 256 or 384 KBit/sec): < 50 milliseconds
    - In a "slow" wide area network (WAN) (for example, 128 KBit/sec or less): < 250 milliseconds
    - Losses of data packets ("Loss") should not occur at all.
If result of your Ping is more than described above, then this indicates problem with network.

  • Required bandwidth per connection

    Hi
What is the required bandwidth for p2p video+audio chat between two people?
Usually upload rate is the bottleneck. What bandwidth is required for "excellent" quality and what is required for "decent" quality?
When 3 users share webcams+audio, does it means that each user have p2p connection to the two others?
Does it means that the quality of each video for 3 users is half the quality with only 2 users?
Do NetGroups/multicasting work for normal users or only in closed LAN networks?
Is multicasting effective for 3 users or only for larger groups?
For 3 < users < 10 , does multicasting provide performance and latency similar to hub and spoke without the bandwidth costs?
What happens when some users of the group are remote than others?
Do I need to set anything for multicasting to work or does it happen automatically?
Do I need to set audio/video quality according to each user bandwidth or does LCCS handle this automatically for me?
    Thanks

Just to make sure I am clear, are you looking to determine the overall amount of bandwidth required for the sites you host? But have a limited capacity to actually test that?
If so, there are some modelling equations for determining bandwidth requirements that I could provide. This would help you work out what the overall load requirement would be without actually testing what the site has available and therby saturating your own internal network.
If you do want to actually test it out, but with limited bandwidth is to create a script that hits a wide variety of pages in your sites,or just use a mix of top hit pages. Then run the script(s) with a single user through one iteration, but ensuring that you have eLoad download manager configured to pull the page support files as well (images, css, js, flash files, etc). At the end of the test, the eload scenario report will have stats on the overall number of pages, hits and KBs. You can get to this report from eload - Create Reports - Reports - Session.
Here is an example from a recent test of mine:
    Pages 10090
    Hits 129211
    Kilobytes 737701
So I know that on average, each page hit in the site has 12.8 hits is 73.1 KB in size.
Let me know if you have any questions about this.

  • SG500x Port-channel limited bandwidth

    Good Day All,
    I have 2 Cisco SG500X-48 setup as Master/Slave using SFP-H10GB-CU1M (10GB Twinax cable).
First question is with the twinax cables
Since on the SG500x's you can not configure the 2*10GE Stacking Combo ports. If I put two cables in for redundancy will this cause a network loop, or will STP/RSTP catch this?
    Next question is limited bandwidth.
I setup 4 Interfaces to Port channel with LACP. On the Server(HP Proliant Gen8 server(s)) end have the NIC Team with 4 NICs. When I run a network stress tool, it seems to cap at around 68MBs. Each port should being 1Gb, shouldn't I be getting closer to 4 GB?
My Configuration would read much like this:
    VLANs setup:
    ##1-RF System
    ##2-VOIP
    ##3-LAN
    interface Port-channel 3
    spanning-tree portfast
switchport trunk allowed vlan add ##1,##2
    switchport trunk native vlan ##3
    interface gigabitethernet2/1/5
    spanning-tree portfast
    channel-group 3 mode auto
    switchport mode access
    interface gigabitethernet2/1/6
    spanning-tree portfast
    channel-group 3 mode auto
    switchport mode access
    interface gigabitethernet2/1/7
    spanning-tree portfast
    channel-group 3 mode auto
    switchport mode access
    interface gigabitethernet2/1/8
    spanning-tree portfast
    channel-group 3 mode auto
    switchport mode access
I dont have much under standing on QOS yet, I assuming this would be based on setting up this?
Any direction or help would be greatly appreciated
    Chris,

    Hello Chris,
The way the stacking cables works is it detects when you are using two of them and switches over to what is called 'ring' mode.  It doesn't use both links at once, but if one of those links fails it will immediately use the second one, usually not even dropping one packet.  STP isn't an issue on the stack ports because it doesn't really use it, the stacking is a proprietary protocol that handles all of this for you.  So go ahead and plug up your second set of cables, you should see a log message saying you have moved from 'chain' to 'ring'.
As for LAGs, this is a common misconception with link aggregation.  I understand the logic, you have 4 gig links, why can't you get 4 gigs of throughput?  It has to do with how LAGs actually work.
When a packet arrives at the switch and needs to go out the LAG the switch runs a calculation on the source and destination IP (or source and destiantion MAC depending on your settings).  From this calculation it comes up with a number, in your case from 1-4.  That determines the link that it uses to get across that LAG.  There is no way to make one conversation use more than one link, it just isn't how it works.  So when you run a speed test from one IP to one other IP, the result of the switch's calculation will always be the same number, hence all the traffic for that stream goes down the same link in the LAG.
There isn't any spillover, so even if one link is much busier then the rest it doesn't move them over to one of the other links.
On some enterprise switches you can use a load balancing algorithm that uses source and destination port, which can result in multiple conversations between the same two clients to use multiple links, but on the Small Business switches we only have IP or MAC.
Basically any one conversation will always be limited to whatever the speed of 1 link in the LAG is.
It is possible to utilize the link more, but you would need several different computers talking to the server to really see that.  QoS would not change this.
As for your speed, it is a bit low, the max for a gigabit link is about 118MB/s (lab max, your mileage may vary) if you are using normal sized frames.  This is assuming two devices directly connected to the with no routing required.  How are you testing the speed?  I like to use a program called Tamosoft throughput tester for this, which is available free on the web.
    Hope that helps a bit,

  • Limited or no connectivity to wireless on XP using Boot Camp

Hi all, I need a little help!
I just installed Windows XP with SP2 on my Intel Mac using Boot Camp. Everything seemed fine until I tried to connect to my wireless network. I've installed and reinstalled all of the drivers, and I can see the driver for wireless networking, but every time I connect it tells me it has "limited or no connectivity." Any idea what to do here? Thanks!!

Denisimo posted this reply to me, and it worked!

I found this on one of the Macrumors forums on the web:
I had exactly the same situation as iBunny.
I got it working by changing the settings via Airport Utility from "WPA2 Personal" into "WPA/WPA2 Personal" and it worked. Btw, before this, I changed from channel 11 to 1, 1 to 2, 2 to 7 without success. I've kept it under channel 7 and just made the change mentioned above.
Also, under winXP, I went to Wireless Network Connection properties and filled up the preferred networks. Am not sure if this has anything to do with the problem at hand but I am now connected automatically.
The user was using a Macbook. Hope this helps.

I just changed from WEP to WPA/WPA2 Personal, and didn’t bother with the rest. That worked.

  • My wi-fi worked fine on Airport Express two days ago.  Now the light is green, but I can't get the Internet on my satellite connection.  I've checked Network Preferences, Aiport Express menu, and the satellite tech support. The Ethernet connection works.

My wi-fi connection from my iPad via the Airport Express Base Station on my home computer worked just fine until yesterday morning.  I have a Macintosh G5 with a satellite connection.  I could not get an Internet connection.  After using the Network Preferences and Aiport Express applications several times, then unplugging and replugging in the computer, satellite modem and Airport Express module, checking the satellite dish for any obstructions, and so on, the computer still wouldn't connect to the Internet.  (The green light was on in the Airport Express module.)  I called the satellite company technical support division last night.  The tech couldn't find any problem with the satellite connection.  When I plugged the satellite modem cord directly into the Ethernet outlet on my computer, I could pick up the Internet.
Today, the Airport Express module still has a green light but still doesn't connect to the Internet.  The only thing I can think of is that lights went out for about 15 minutes yesterday morning.  All of my electronics, except the Aiport Express Base Station, are on surge protectors.  Why would the Airport Express module still have a green light if it was damaged by the electrical outage?
I bought the module in 2009.  I have never had problems with Apple equipment before this. Is this base station fixable?
    I would appreciate your suggestions.

Hello everyone.  I too have experienced the same problem Mary described starting on the same day she mentioned January 12.  I have a G5 iMac, a G5 mini-mac, and a G4 laptop.  They were all working fine but all have mostly the same problem now in that the G4 does not connect at all and the G5s connect once in a while after restarts but do not maintain the connection.  In my case there was no power interruption.  In fact, the G4 laptop was not even connected to the home power connection.  My iPad2 and iPhone 4s wireless work fine and a wireless PC and Android tablet work fine as well.  The G5 and G4 work fine on an ethernet connection. ISP tech support (AT&T u-Verse) was very generous with their time in trying to solve my problem although it was established early on that their connection and equipment was working fine and that the problem was with my computers.  They walked me through a manual reset of all the particulars on IP addresses etc. so the problem was not related to that either. In the end ISP tech support concluded that the problem must lie with the Airport driver.  For some reason it changes the IP addresses to an incorrect address so it cannot connect.  Indeed when I tried the diagnostics on the G4 I got a window Pop-up that said an application had reset my settings. (In retrospect I seem to recall that I may have gotten that same message early on with the G5s but at that time I did not think much about it and went about trying to reset the settings but that process never concluded well) I think that the problem may be that there must have been an update of the Airport software that was not backward compatible with the G5 and older Macs.  I mention all this for two reasons.  First, perhaps someone out there who knows better than I do how to bring this to Apple's attention and perhaps they will address this.  Second, I would be curious to know whether there is anyway one can return a configuration on Macs to some earlier time period (as you can on PCs) when everything worked and then leave it that way foregoing any subseqent upgrades or any subsequent apps?

  • Crystal reports 2013 , SAP MDX Driver not able to connect with BW BEX Query

    Hi All,
We just installed Crystal 2013, and want to create crystal report on SAP BW CUBE/BEX Query through SAP MDX Driver.
1.When start connecting through SAP MDX Query option from new connection , SAP Systems which are in SAPLOGON are not appearing in initial screen. where as from OLAP Connection we are able to connect to SAP BEX Query.
2.Even from SAP Tool kit we are not able to connect to BEX query, we are getting ERROR MESSAGE.
and we are using SAP BI BO PLATFORM 4.1 sp01 .
Please suggest me , if I am missing any configuration settings.
    Regards,
    Joseph

    Hi Joseph,
Before you start building the report, make sure the right transports have been loaded on the SAP System. The right Transport files are the ones found inside the installation zip you download from SAP's server. They're under the "Collaterals\Add-Ons\SAP\Transports" folder.
For more info on Transports, authorizations etc, please have your BASIS admin go through this wiki:
Crystal Reports 2008 and BW - Installation and Configuration - Business Intelligence (BusinessObjects) - SCN Wiki
To resolve your first issue, please follow the steps from this thread:
Problems with SAPLogon.ini for SAP GUI and Crystal 2011
P.S: Crystal Reports for Enterprise 4.1 does a better job at handling BEx queries that the CR 2013 designer. It directly connects to BEx queries via the BICS connectivity driver and doesn't need the Transports to be there on the SAP System. You might want to give this flavour of CR a try too.

  • QGM for Greenfield SAP Implementation

    Hi All,
We are doing a greenfield SAP implementation. As of now we are done with DEV landscape build. We would like to utilize Quality Gate Management for Change Management in our project. I have few queries:
    1) How should I define Transport routes at this stage to activate QGM? We have only DEV systems as of now. QAS and PRD would be ready in next few months. Can I activate QGM now with logical component containing only DEV systems?
    2) Once the QAS and PRD systems are ready; How to include them in the existing QGM project?
Any documentation or input are really appreciated.
    Regards,
    Vivek

Achieved this using the virtual systems as mentioned in this excellent blog.

  • Limited or nor connectivity with PC

Intstalled Time capsule yesterday. Cant get my pc to get internet access with a direct cat 5e wired connection. I get ip address, DNS and Gateway address all look ok, but I cant ping out and the message over the network icons say limited or no connectivity. My hardware information on my network adaptor is set to autosynch and it syncs to Gigabit.
My iMac via wi-fi is fine. My iPhone is fine, even an old direct wired pc is fine.
When I plug my old router back into my dsl and wire my pc to it every thing works as it did.

Recently had a similar problem connecting a friend's PC to my network and thought I would post my fix in order to hopefully help others.
I noticed that everything worked fine when I disabled wireless security, so my problem was a security issue.
I re-enabled security on my router and copied down the first actual HEX key (key 1) instead of just using the password. Then, on the laptop with a Netgear wireless card, instead of selecting to type a password, I opted to use a network key and pasted the actual key, and it worked like a charm.
Maybe it has something to do with aftermarket network cards, but it solved the "network did not assign a network address" problem.
Hope I've helped and not given a useless answer.

  • Limited or no connectivity BS

I have looked at all the different posts regarding this problem, and I fail to find ANYONE who can actually solve this problem.
I do not have 2.4Ghz phones that could interfere with the router I have (model BEFW11S4).
My closest neighbor is about 150 yards away.
I am nowhere near a radar installation.
I can connect with this laptop to any other wireless network I have encountered.
Signal strength is excellent (the router is 6 feet from me)
I have only 2 wireless devices (laptops), and I have 2 wired devices (printer and WII) connected to it.
What will it take to resolve this? Switch to someone else's product (apparently Cisco does not care)

Tutorial was no help. These are all things that I had already tried or ruled out.
FYI, I am able to connect, sometimes. But tomorrow I could turn on the PC and get a Limited or no connectivity message. I have tried restarting my laptop at that time, which does not help. The only thing that helps is to power cycle the router.

  • WRT300N limited or no connectivity

I searched for this problem and tried the answer given. However, i still have the same problem. It stays on "aquiring network address" for a long time then just switches to the limited or no connectivity. Any ideas? i have a WRT300N and a WMP300N. I can connect to the network just fine, but i just cant connect to the internet. Latest firmware/drivers are being used as well.
    *edit*
Oh and if i wire directly into the router there is no problems at all. its strictly wireless.Message Edited by Kevo651 on 05-16-200701:38 AM

what ip address do you get when the computer is directly wired into the router ?? also , what is the internet ip address under the "status" tab on the router's web ui ..

  • WRT54G - Limited or no connectivity error

My wireless network had been working fine for about 2 months. About a week ago I started to experience an intermittent problem.  I will get an error message on the wireless network icon in the windows icon tray that I have "limited or no connectivity".  The signal strength remains "excellent" and the speed is 54.0 Mbs.  I will sometimes also get a message that there is an IP conflict on the network.  The computer that is wired to the router continues to have internet access.  The problem appears to affect only the wirelessly connected computer.
Powering down and then back up the entire network does not resolve the problem.  One night I went to bed with the error occurring, but the next morning things were working. It worked for a few hours, but when I returned in the evening the problem had returned.
I need help before I have to scrap another wireless router.

Are you using any fixed LAN IP addresses on your network.  If so, please list the the fixed LAN IP addresses that you are using, and also state your DHCP server range.
Also, are you running an open (unencrypted) wireless network?
