SAP Kernel update with HANA DATABASE

Dear experts,
I am planning to update the kernel  with HANA database. It is my first time  that I apply a kernel with HANA  and for that reason I want to be sure everything is properly planned. I have updated kernel with Oracle databases and my biggest doubt is if I have to do something in the database, what would it be?
I have looking for any note that help me  with a step by step but I couldn't find it.   In that order I will ask you based on your own experiences.
Current  Kernel is 742 PL28, I am planning to update to PL 101.
I appreciate any comments or suggestions,
Best regards,
DanielO

Dear Reagan,
As you told, the kernel was applied and I had no issues. I appreciatte  your help.
Best regards,
DanielO

  • SAP BO Installation with Oracle Database

    Hello all,
    My client uses SAP R/3 with Oracle database. Now we have to install Business Objects on another machine.
    I've read the documentation on Installing Procedures but there are some questions still not clarified.
    1. Do I have to install Oracle in the new machine?
    2. If not, can I connect BOBJ to the database of the SAP R/3 Server?
    3. If I want to have three systems (Like in R/3, Productive, Tests and Development) do I have to install BOBJ in different machines?
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards

    1. you dont have to insall Oracle database at the BO machine side, you just need any database to hold the BO repository.
    2. you cant connect directly using BO, only Crystal reports can connect directly to R3 database, you need to have a BW in between.
    extract your data into the BW, and let BO connect to BW using the BO integration kit for SAP solutions.
    3. no you dont have to have 3 different machines, using one BO machine you connect to them all, but you may need build a  BO environment, (Development, Production servers)
    good luck

  • SAP EHP Update for Large Database

    Dear Experts,
    We are planning for the SAP EHP7 update for our system. Please find the system details below
    Source system: SAP ERP6.0
    OS: AIX
    DB: Oracle 11.2.0.3
    Target System: SAP ERP6.0 EHP7
    OS: AIX
    DB: 11.2.0.3
    RAM: 32 GB
    The main concern over here is the DB size. It is approximately 3TB. I have already gone through forums and notes it is mentioned the DB size is not having any impact on the SAP EHP update using SUM. However am stil thinking it will have the impact in the downtime phase.
    Please advise on this.
    Regards,
    Raja. G

    Hi Raja,
    The main concern over here is the DB size. It is approximately 3TB. I have already gone through forums and notes it is mentioned the DB size is not having any impact on the SAP EHP update using SUM. However am stil thinking it will have the impact in the downtime phase.
    Although 3TB DB size may not have direct impact on the upgrade process, downtime of the system may vary with larger database size.
    Points to consider
    1) DB backup before entering into downtime phase
    2) Number of Programs & Tables stored in the database. ICNV Table conversions and XPRA execution will be dependent on these parameters.
    Hope this helps.

  • Sap kernel update not reflected on disp+work

    Hi,
    I try to update kernel patch for my Dev server on Windows 2003 server from 133 to 185.
    This is 1st time i try to do kernel patch on windows server. I want to change the kernel to 185 by follow "How to do a Manual Kernel Upgrade of an SAP Server" - by Hemant Kumar. And other kernel upgrade notes and guide from  internet too.
    Is there anything else i should do? Update profile or anything? BTW... im not sure if i put the new kernel update on the right folder. This is because, i copy the folder \usr\sap\SID\sys\exe\uc\NTAMD64. Even if put the same thing on  \usr\sap\SID\DVEBMGS00\exe\, the same thing will still will occured.
    So now, no matter what kernel that i put on. Apps server still run but disp+work and SM51 still not reflected to the new kernel but still show kernel no 133.
    Any advice? Thanks in advance.

    Hi all,
    Thanks for the reply
    Currently i tried all the steps above. But for latest one. This is what i did.
    -I stop the apps server.
    -Copy the original kernel no 133 at \usr\sap\SID\sys\exe\uc\NTAMD64 as a backup.
    -Then overwrite the old 133 with the new one. Change their owner, security.
    -Restart apps server using the sapMMC and start saposcol services.
    I try to run the command disp+work at Drive:\usr\sap\SID\sys\exe\uc\NTAMD64. But it still show 133.
    Then i try to check on the RUN folder in C:\usr\sap\SID\sys\exe\ as what Anindya Bose said earlier. The files still not update automatically. So I bring down the apps server again. So i copy the old Run133 as a backup before i overwrite with the new Run185 executeable files. Then start the apps server again.
    I still get the kernel no 133 on disp+work command. However I notice that a few files in Drive:\usr\sap\SID\DVEBMGS00\exe\ has been update to a new 185.
    I want to confirm. I find out that in Drive:\usr\sap\SID\sys\exe\uc\NTAMD64 files like stopsap, startsap sapstart and many more files is still not update to 185. File version is still 133 even after all of those steps above. Is this the cause of this problem? Any file that i missout to download somewhere? BTW, I update this job only by using the SAPEXEDB_185-20001356.SAR files.
    Thank you.

  • Iwconfig have no results since 2.6.24 kernel update with intel 3945

    Hello,
    Since the last update of the kernel (2.6.24) in x86 with an intel 3945ABG wireless chipset,
    I have no wireless extention in iwconfig.
    I have just l0 and eth0 (ethernet).
    what I supposed to do to have my wireless come back ?
    Is it a module to load at boot or something else ?
    Thanks

    I presume that you're using the ipw3945 or iwlwifi drivers? If so, when you updated the system, the correct newest version should have been pulled in along with the kernel update. (Mine gave me a newer ipw3945 and catalyst drivers, for example).
    Try 'pacman -S ipw3945 ipw3945d' or 'pacman -S iwlwifi' and see if it gives you your updated driver/modules.
    If you are using the non-standard 'vanilla' 'tp_plus' 'rt' or 'dkms' kernels, there might also be newer drivers floating around, otherwise it's up to you to compile them...
    Edit: Actually, according to this post the iwlwifi drivers are included in the kernel, so if you saw something like this:
    :: Starting full system upgrade...
    :: Replace iwlwifi with core/kernel26? [Y/n]
    And answered 'Y' then you already have them. A simple matter of 'modprobe iwl3945' should bring your interface back.

  • SAP Kernel Update Permition

    Dears:
    When you use the account root to extract the SAP latest kernel in the HP unix, and before or after you cover the old kernel with the new one. If you need to do any property of the kernel files. For exampe, change the file owner to as the following sample.
    chown ora<sid> brarchive brbackup brconnect brtools
        chmod 4775     brarchive brbackup brconnect brtools
        chmod  755     brrestore     (owner is <sid>adm)
        chmod  755     brrecover     (owner is <sid>adm)
        chmod  755     libsbt.*      (owner is <sid>adm)
        chmod  755     sapdba        (owner is <sid>adm)

    Hi Bach,
    You are absolutely on the right path, nothing to worry.
    Download the kernel from SMP (/swdc). Upload the new kernel to a temp directory on ur app server.
    Now,
    1. Take a backup of ur existing kernel directory.
    2. As user root or <sid>adm replace the old kernel by the new kernel.
    3. Check the following guide (Security on UNIX/Linux NW04S) and set the permissions as per pg# 9 of this guide.
    https://websmp108.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?_FRAME=CONTAINER&_OBJECT=011000358700000485892007E
    4. Now only for certain br*tools u will need to change the permission as this is important so that both ora<sid> and <sid>adm can use it to perform DBA activities from DB13. Set it to permissions as mentioned in the SAP Note below.
    https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/113747
    lastly, to answer your quetion no 4775 and 775 is not the same, the 4 helps the s-bit to be switched on and helps to prevent the errors mentioned in the sap note below.
    https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/651351
    Hope, this answers all your queries. Pls award suitably.

  • Missing IDES ECC5 installation disk for SAP Kernel - MaxDB Version

    Hi,
    Our HQ sent us installation disks for IDES ECC5.  We copied them all onto our server and started installation.  The system is now informing us that it can't find the SAP kernel information.
    I can only assume that we're missing one of the installation disks.
    We're desperate to get this installed and it will take another week for our HQ to send through another disk.  Does anyone know whether we can download this from somewhere?  We have had a look on SAP marketplace but you only seem to be able to download the kernel for Oracle, MSSQL and DB2....no MaxDB.
    Additionally, if there is somewhere in Asia we can download this, then that would be better as we are having internet problems when connecting to Europe and the US.
    Thanks in advance!
    Tristan

    Hello Tristan,
    This is not the correct forum to post your question.
    You was not asked about the database(MAXDB) kernel software.
    You need SAP kernel software
    -> Review the installation guides at service.sap.com/instguides ->
    mySAP Business Suite Applications -> mySAP ERP -> mySAP ERP 2004
    -> SAP ECC 5.0 ->
      Installation Guides of SAP ECC 5.0 SR1
    -> < Please see the steps 'How to Proceed' > ->
    -> MySQL MaxDB
    < Part I: Planning and Preparation
      Part II: Installation and Post-Installation  >
    -> select the documents for the OS of your server.
    And the document from the 'Part I: Planning and Preparation' you will get information that you need the SAP kernel CD & & what is the minimum required version & the reference to the location at the SAP Marketplace to download it, if you don't have the required SAP kernel CD.
    < You could download the CD from service.sap.com/installations ->
    Entry by applicataion group ->
    Installations and Upgrades -> SAP NetWeaver -> SAP NETWEAVER->
    SAP NETWEAVER 04 ->
    Installation and Upgrade ->
    < OS> -> < database > -> CD 'SAP Kernel ... <database><OS>.
    SAP kernel software is database, platform, Unicode specific.   >
    In the 'Part II: Installation and Post-Installation' document you will find the the list of the required DVDs for the SAP system-ABAP installation.
    -> Are you running the installation of the the 'Central Instance', 'Dialog Instance' or 'Database instance' ?
    For the 'Database instance' Installation you need:
    SAP Installation Master DVD
    SAP Kernel DVD
    RDBMS DVD
    SAP Export DVD
    -> What CD/DVD do you have for the installation?
    <  You could download the CDs from service.sap.com/installations ->
    Entry by applicataion group ->
    Installations and Upgrades -> Entry by Application Group
    -> SAP Application Components -> SAP ERP-> SAP ERP 2004 -> Installation and Upgrade -> <OS> ->SAP DB  >
    You could also order the CD, if you have problems with download from the SAP Marketplace.
    Thank you and best regards, Natalia Khlopina
    PS: SAP Note 19466 will give you information about download of SAP Kernel Patches.

  • Update SAP Hana Database - Guides/Information

    Hello,
    Can you tell me how can I do an update/upgrade to our SAP Hana Database from revision 66 to the latest version?
    I didn´t found any document which cover this type of activity. Can you tell me if there are some SAP documents/guides with that instruction how to update a SAP Hana DB!?
    Thank you,

  • SAP ECC 6.0 IDES KERNEL Update

    Dear experts,
    i have installed a SAP ECC 6.0 IDES on a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise 64 bits + MS SQL from the MarketPlace:
    -> http://service.sap.com/swdc
    -> Download
    -> Installations and Upgrades
    -> My Company's Application Components
    -> SAP ERP
    -> SAP ERP 6.0
    -> IDES-Version
    -> Windows Server
    -> Microsoft SQL-Server
    and in order to update my solution into EHP3, i need to update the Kernel witch is in 7.00 version.
    How and Where could i get the kernel update file?
    Is there any difference between SAP Netweaver and SAP ERP Installation?
    Thank you very much for your great help.
    Best regards,
    Pascal.
    PS: i already update the SPAM/SAINT version (number 33) and have a well configured MOPZ for confirmed files.

    Hello Pascal,
    The kernel is at a differnt location. Please go to:
    1. http://service.sap.com/swdc
    2. Download
    3. Support Packages and Patches
    4. Entry by Application Group
    5. Additional Components
    6. SAP Kernel
    Select the corresponding platform.
    You should download 2 kernel files: SAPEXE and SAPEXEDB. One is database independent, one is DB dependent. Unpack them to the kernel directory and the kernel then is upgraded.
    Best Regards,
    Joseph

  • In sap bw with hana, How exactly the performance is improved ?

    By replacing oracle db with hana , are we installing new processors as well. Or is the performance we get is purely because of columnar storage ?

    Hi Mohd,
    This is a good question. Just replacing the DB or columnar store doesn't help.
    If HANA DB is just a data base on memory then everyone can just add more memory for existing DB or columnar store then most DB already offer columnar store ( Like IBM DB2 Blu Accelerator or MS Sql columnar, etc)
    It is a combination factor of HANA DB which optimised for both read and write operations along columnar store and data compression. In case of HANA DB sap is trying to push most of the process to database.
    All new BW modeling techniques ( ADSO or New Composite Provider) will work only with  HANA DB.
    General points why BW on HANA is more efficient
    1) No DIM ID in cube
    2) Change log tables can be converted into views ( optional )
    3) DSO Activation Pushed to DB
    4) Transformation Pushed to DB if no ABAP routines.
    5) No need of index for cubes
    6) Aggregations is no more required.
    Thanks,
    Shakthi Raj Natarajan.

  • External views with HANA as secundary database

    Hi,
    internally we have since some time a discussion on whether one can make external views in ABAP when HANA is your secondary database. According to the documentation it is not possible, but apparently the HANA-versions of Financial transactions do use them. These transactions are SAP standard transactions. It is difficult to convince our users/developers that this is not possible, when they see it is used in SAP standard ...
    We do not get any clear answer to this problem. Also not from our consultants. The only remaining possibility seems to sketch a possible solution and ask you all some questions and make some statements to see if I am right.
    I think this little sketch shows the landscape you need to make all this possible:
    One cannot create an external view in Ecipse (ABAP in …) when you have HANA as a secondary database.
    External views can only be created using AIE, not in SE11 in the GUI.
    When these external views are created – using the described process – these views cannot even be displayed in the AIE when having HANA as a secondary database.
    This is the message we get:
    If you want to create an external view, you need a ‘landscape’ where HANA is you primary database. This means a supplementary R/3-ABAP and a supplementary HANA database, where all necessary tables do exist.
    You have to develop you HANA artefacts (attribute views, analytical views, calculation views, …) in this separate landscape.
    If you want to call them using external views, you have to do your developments here!
    Based on these views you create external views in the AIE on this separate landscape. This way they exist in the ABAP dictionary in this system.
    The name of the HANA-artefact and the external view in the ABAP dictionary have to be identical.
    You copy the HANA artefacts to you first HANA (where you use it as secondary database). Copy, transport, … whatever.
    You copy/transport your external view to your first ABAP dictionary.
    Now you can use it in a SELECT with CONNECTION(“to_2ndary_hana”).
    Is this correct? Or do I still miss something?
    Thanks for any reaction.
    Regard.
    Kris
    Message was edited by: Jens Weiler

    Hi Kris,
    except for "The name of the HANA-artefact and the external view in the ABAP dictionary have to be identical" all you points above are valid.
    Let me say a couple of words about the external views, especially those delivered by SAP.
    Assume you have a development system landscape like DEH (development system with HANA as primary DB), DEO (development system with another DB), QCS (quality system, doesn't matter which DB but receiving the consolidated transports of DEH and DEO), PDS (productive system with non-HANA as primary DB and a secondary DB connection to HANA).
    In this heterogeneous landscape you can create HANA content in DEH (respectively in the HANA underlying DEH) and external views via the ABAP Development Tools. You can transport the HANA content (e.g. via the HANA Transport Container) as well as the external views (and database procedure proxies) to the QCS system. The dictionary content, i.e. external views and database procedure proxies are active - otherwise the import/activation will fail - but you cannot consume them. Consumption of external views in the QCS system will lead to runtime exceptions as the underlying HANA artefacts are not accessible. However, since all the dictionary content exists, i.e. external views, database procedures, and the HANA transport container and all of them are active, you can further transport them to the productive system PDS. Once the external view is available in PDS and the HANA artefacts are available in the "side-car HANA" (assuming for simplicity you just use the connection to the DEH HANA), you can consume the external view respectively the underlying HANA view via OpenSQL in conjunction with the CONNECTION statement.
    The described procedure explains how SAP has been able to deliver external views. In our system landscape, we have development systems on HANA as well as systems using non-HANA as primary database - how exactly depends on the product etc. So once the colleagues developed their HANA views and created the external views on such a development system on HANA, we can deliver external views. You can consume these external views:
    in a system using HANA as primary database (assuming of course you have also received the correct HANA content and everything has been activated properly)
    in a system using HANA as secondary database and using the CONNECTION statement in Open SQL
    In scenario 1. you are able to create external views yourself via the ABAP Development Tools, while in the second scenario you can neither view nor maintain the external view.
    For database procedure proxies, there is a method to create the DB procedure proxies programatically (see http://scn.sap.com/thread/3498161).
    Hope this clarifies your questions,
    Cheers,
      Jasmin

  • Kernel update of CI with application instance

    We have JP ux with SAP 5.0 , oracle , we allready performed kernel update on DEV & QA , i want to know the procedure for CI with APP instance, do i need to update both saperately ?
    regards
    Sachin Sonawane

    the OS for both instance is same but the /sapmnt/SID/exe is not shared because they are showing different sizes & files,
    Then i need do it separately ?
    If /sapmnt/SID/exe is not shared then you have to do it separately.
    Is a standard practice (included on the installation guide) that application servers share following directories with the CI,
    /sapmnt/SID/exe (This is not shared/mounted on heterogenous environments)
    /sapmnt/SID/global
    /sapmnt/SID/profile
    Read the guide for reference
