SAP LPO (supported or phased-out?)

We are evaluating implementing SAP LPO. Own the licenses. Is LPO supported or phased-out product by SAP? Is any functionality of LPO migrated into ECC and APO?
What is the typical time frame to implement LPO? We have 18 manufacturing sites. We use ECC and APO. Currently forecast demand and issue production plan based on the demand forecast. Moving towards lean inventory and produce based on replenishment needs.
Is it required to install and run LPO on separate server? Can it co-exist with ECC on the same server? Any pros or cons?
Your insight would immensely help.
Thanks,
Satish

Satish,
LPO is not part of APO.  Try using the search feature here.  Or, try the xAPPs forum.

  • ECC 5.0 version phased out for certificaiton

    Hi Gurus
I had applied for direct certification for SD module to SAP. Since i was eligible my profile got approved by SAP and hence i was eligible to give that certification exam for ECC 5.0. I completed all the formalities like sending the DD, Required consent letter, supporting letter from company etc etc.
As per the policy i am suppose to give the exam within the 4 months after they receive the documents,
i received their confirmation of "documents received" on 14th Aug 2009.
So that means i can give the exam till 14th Dec 2009
When i mailed them today for some info regarding the exam they suddenly said that ECC 5.0 has been phased out from 18th  sept 2009 and hence I am not allowed to appear for exam. I was prepared and wanted to give exam on 16th Oct as per their schedule. But now i can't. I requested them to allow me for ECC 6.0 which they are denying.
I am wondering what kind of policy they have. They didn't even intimate me that it has been phased out.Haven't I mail them today i wouldn't have even known that it has been phased out and i cannot give the exam.
Is there anything else  i can do. I want to give my certification exam. I am thoroughly prepared and have invested lot of time in my preparation.
Please suggest what can be done
Looking forward for some positive inputs

  • SAP XI support SFTP and FTPS?

    Hi Gurus,
I would like to find out if SAP XI supports both SFTP and FTPS. If yes, how do I perform the configuration?
    Thanks in advance.

    Business Case:
In many implementations Business requirement is to "secure" the file/data transfer between XI and any third-party system. So there is a need of secured connection between XI/PI and any file based third-party legacy systems.
Following solutions are proposed to cater secure connection between XI/PI and any third party systems.
    1) SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol)
"SSH File Transfer Protocol" or SFTP is a network protocol that provides file transfer and manipulation functionality over any reliable data stream. It is typically used with the SSH-2 protocol to provide secure file transfer. SFTP encrypts the session, preventing the casual detection of username, password or anything that is being transmitted. One key benefit to SFTP is its ability to handle multiple secure file transfers over a single encrypted pipe. By using a single encrypted pipe, there are fewer holes in the corporate firewall.
    2) FTPS (FTP over SSL)
FTPS (FTP-SSL) is a real ftp that uses TSL/SSL to encrypt the control session and if required the data session. With FTPS, the control session is always encrypted, but the data session may not be always encrypted. FTPS is a file transport layer on top of SSL. SSL, or Secure Sockets Layer, is a method by which an encrypted u2018pipe' or tunnel is established between the FTP client and FTP server. Once the secure tunnel has been established (which is done using 128-bit encryption techniques), standard FTP is used to transfer data over the secure connection.
Feasibility of SFTP and FTPS in XI:
    SFTP:
As per the latest SAP PI/XI support pack, it does not support SFTP via File Adapter.
So alternative approach to cater this requirement from XI is to make use of Unix Script at OS level to transfer the files from/to third-party systems.
    Inbound Interface - i.e. third-party system ->XI->SAP:
File is transferred to a folder in SAP XI landscape from the third-party legacy system using UNIX Script with secured protocol. Once the file is ready in the XI landscape, File Adapter will poll this directory and file is picked up by NFS protocol.
    Outbound Interface u2013 i.e. SAP->XI->third-party system:
XI is responsible for writing a file into a folder in the XI landscape. These files are transferred to the third-party system by executing UNIX scripts with secured protocol i.e. via sFTP.
    Pre-Requisites:
Public key should be exchanged between external systems and the PI system.
UNIX shell script has to be developed and scheduled.
    Advantages:
    Highly Secured.
Ability to handle multiple secure file transfers over a single encrypted pipe .By using a single encrypted pipe, there are fewer holes in the corporate firewall.
    Disadvantages:
    Two-Step process i.e. XI>Temporary folder>External System and vice-versa
Files have to be temporarily stored in XI server.
Multiple failure points i.e. XI and Unix script execution
Maintenance of an external UNIX script.
Difficulty in monitoring the execution of the shell script as it cannot be monitored thru XI.
Need to generate keys and install it in the SFTP site as a pre-requisite i.e. SFTP clients must install keys on the server.
SFTP uses keys rather than certificates. This means that it can't take advantage of the "chains of trust" paradigm facilitated through Certificate Authorities.
Files from the XI server should be deleted/archived in a periodic manner to increase the disc space so that it will increase the performance.
Note: UNIX shell Script can be executed as a background job u2018or' can be triggered from SAP XI through OS command at File adapter level.
FTPS (File Transfer Protocol Using SSL/TLS):
This is a built-in feature of File adapter in XI. But SAP Java Cryptographic Toolkit must be deployed as a prerequisite. (Refer to note https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/821267 Question 28). By default following ports are used:
Implict FTPs 990 (Control) and 989 (Data)
Explicit FTPs 21 (Control) and 20 (Data)
Both use cases can be combined with active and passive mode.
    Advantages:
Direct transfer of files to/from third-party systems. It is not required to store the files in the XI server temporarily.
Built-In feature from XI File adapter
No extra effort in development and maintenance of Unix Script.
    Centralized Monitoring tool from XI
FTPS uses certificates and therefore can take advantage of "chains of trust" paradigm facilitated through Certificate Authorities. This paradigm makes it possible for two entities to establish a trust relationship without directly exchanging security information, which is important for some applications.
    Disadvantages:
Requires opening multiple ports forenabling SSLin the firewall. So there are multiple holes in the corporate firewall.
Not every FTP server supports FTPS and many that do, require a configuration change to activate the FTPS protocol extension.
Cryptographic toolkit should be installed in XI system though it is not very complex or expensive.
    Conclusion:
Though SFTP seems more secure as it works through one port, FTPS is easier to configure, monitor and maintain from XI point of view. However, the decision depends on many parameters like, cost/effort, flexibility in use, ease of maintenance, company security policy, failure possibilities etc.

  • SAP HR Support Gurus ,,,,,Help Reqd

    Hello Gurus,

If u can give ur contact details with the suggestion it wl b appreciated, so tat i can contact you for more details.
    Thanks in Advance
    Pradeep

    Hi Pradeep,
I think you might have got the scenario regarding the support project.Hence I want to give some inputs.
Support itself gives the meanning what our role is ..! And we , being a support consultant have to solve the issues that has been arised to end users or to the business.
It all depends on the end users ( if they are been trained well then issues will be less) and the implementation consultant( if he had implemented with utmost care and with proper documentation).
Most of the issues will be from end users who dont know how to import or how to enter data. And if they see any error message also, they will raise a ticket (issues tracker).
Also some times we will get payroll related issues where we have to act very fast and resolve the issue cause it will impact the payroll.
And on a daily basis , issues may be on OM as they can be related to structural authorizations or any data related problem..
So i can say , it all depends on Client and the end user and also based on the Business.
Do let me know if you are not satisfied or still have any queries .
    Regards,
    Sri

  • Does SAP SRM support scanned document?

    Dear Experts,
Does SAP SRM support scanned document in the sense that it can create system document out of a scanned document?? or do we need third party software like OCR, open text etc?
    Thanks and regards,
    Ranjan

I believe you'd need a third party scanning software. SRM does not provide such feature.

  • Ressponsiblities of a SAP F1 Support

    hi,
i am very intterested to know about the responsiblities of a SAP F1 Support consultant. what are their role in the implementaion of SAP ECC6
    thanks
    jothi

    Support project
you generally help the user day to day activity where user find problems to executing the transaciton or have security related issue or some new bussiness process needs to be implement or some changes required
Implement the changes and testing the funcitonality than migrate to production
    reporting help
master data upload help etc will be a part of support project
some time you have to help the user to identifying the problems.
    Roll out Project
it is same like new implementaion only diff is here you don;t have to collect the requirements from the user because it is alreqady omplemented some where and now you are implementing same here

  • Phasing out ECC 6.0 Certification

    Hi,
From my resources i come to know that SAP is phasing out there ECC 6.0 Certification w.e.f 31st dec 2010. Is this true, wat if someis just enroll in the course and will not able to give the exam by december.
    Regards,
    Kapil.

    Hi Kapil,
Yes its tru that ECC 6.0 is phasing out and only tfin52_64 based on the enhancement pack wil be available for certification from now on.
And as far as the certification goes, all the institutes have got prior guidelines from SAP itself in the month of november, as not to give anymore enrollments into that module as one needs to complete 200 hrs. of training.
In case u are talkin about the e learing part in which a student has 5 mnths to prepare and has enorlled for the same but hv nt givn the certification yet, he must have been given prior deadlines by the institute to appear for the same.If still not appearing then a fresh new enrollment needs to be done onto the newer version.

  • Is AT&T phasing out DSL

Is AT&T totally phasing out DSL and going strictly U-Verse? I was browsing internet options for a friend, and also checking for myself (in a different town) and every time I look at Internet (not U-Verse) it defaults to a U-Verse internet option. I don't want Cox because last time I tried them, which was years ago, I quit after 6 months since I had to reset my modem on a daily basis. AT&T has been extremely reliable but I don't want to be forced into U-Verse. Other options are smaller companies that I am not sure about reliability.

The rumor is, ATT is phasing out the legacy dsl (adsl2) in most markets by 2020.The standard rule of thumb is, new service is via u-verse, and in areas where u-verse expands into, legacy dsl goes away. However, I am also hearing stories of folks who are getting "new" legacy dsl service in areas that are serviced by u-verse, and have been for years. And, occasional exceptions where dsl customers are allowed to keep their service even after the u-verse moves in.Not meaning to confuse the issue, u-verse itself is based on DSL protocols, just different from the adsl2. (you can google the technical specs of the protocols u-verse uses, if you are really interested.. I just want to keep this post as simple as I can.)Not advertised, as that is not the preferred service offered, but the new u-verse connection boxes CAN support legacy dsl connections, but they prefer to use the newer protocols instead. (Don't believe me, ask one of the install techs the next time you see one. Just, be nice to him when you ask, please.)ATT has it's heart set on u-verse for its future. Don't like it, you will have to look for service elsewhere. There are markets where ATT's u-verse is not allowed due to monopoly agreements. So, it's not going to be everywhere.. but, they are going to it in every market allowed. There are always other internet service options, but not all are priced resonably. Still, you make your choice and live with it. Enough rant. later.

  • SAP HCM Support Function reg

    Hi All
I have 4 Years of Experience in SAP HCM End user support and I also got a job offer for SAP HCM Support from one of the big company.
If I continue my career in SAP Support what will be my future career, whether is there any big career opportunities available in future for Support function.
    Please suggest your views
    Thanks

    I agree with Colleen,
There is a general perception among many that Support project work is degrading, boring, monotonous, non-challenging, lack-of-learning-opportunities etc.
Those who say this, have actually no real work experience or are ignorant of world they live in. A support project is as important as an Implementation or a Roll-out project. Most Implementation and Roll-out projects are a 100m dash to the finish line. No one is bothered whether you flew or limped to the finish-line - as long as you completed the run within a decent timeline. The real challenge of Support project is in fixing a hurriedly set-up system without taking into consideration future performance or sustainability. These points have been discussed many times(even recently).
Even if the above reasons don't excite here's one more. All Implementation/roll-out projects are short term and you'll end up searching for projects within months of beginning one, whereas Support projects are long-term and hence give you more stability and reassurance of steady revenue.

PS: And this comes from a person who's worked in Implementation/Rollout/Upgrade projects for 70% of his total SAP project experience.

  • Apple phasing out Firewire?

So, I've been trying to figure out a solution to not only my full internal hard drive on my G4 but to also extending my wireless network and running iTunes off an external drive and streaming it through my stereo on the other side of the house.
A friend pointed out Airport Express, which has ethernet, USB and an audio jack, but no Firewire. He also mentioned he heard Apple was phasing out Firewire on the next generation of laptops. Perhaps then, not a coincidence its absence on the Express.
Any truth to this? This will affect my solution, as my laptop apparently only has USB 1.1, but purchasing a new Express would enable a USB 2.0 drive to be used. Though I would prefer not to have my external hard drive sitting on top of my stereo.
Furthermore, anyone know what USB version is on the old, flying saucer shaped Airport Extreme? I bought it at the same time as the G4 (about 6 years ago), so I'm wondering if I'm stuck all around with USB 1.1.
Another connection issue, then, is how do I connect my new external hard drive (which will house my iTunes folder) to an additional smaller drive to back up the main drive (iTunes)? Can I do this through the old Airport Extreme Base Station just using ethernet or USB?
(At least one commenter has pointed out that my USB on my G4 should be 2.0, however I have found that not to be the case.)
Thanks, and sorry if this is more confusing than enlightening.

There was never any production 15" Aluminum Powerbook G4 that had USB 1.1 ports. Either System Profiler is reporting erroneously all on its own (not an unknown occurrence), or an improper OS software installation on your machine is failing to support USB 2.0 and causing the mistaken report by System Profiler. I don't know whether or not the latter hypothesis is actually a possibility.
FireWire is not being phased out by Apple. Every current Apple notebook except the $999 plastic MacBook has at least a FireWire 800 port (backward compatible with FireWire 400 devices through an under-$10 adapter). Top-of-the line MacBook Pros have dual FW 400 and FW 800 ports. All current Mac Pros, iMacs and Mac Minis have FireWire ports.
I can't find any specifications that tell whether the USB ports in Airport Extreme base stations past or present are USB 1.1 or USB 2.0. I suggest posting your question about that in the appropriate Airport forum. Choose one here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=140
The usual and by far the best response to a full internal hard drive is to replace it with a larger one. Unless you already have a 320GB internal HD in your Powerbook, consider installing one.

  • Is FireWire being phased out?

I too am disappointed that you can't synch the new iPod with FireWire (though I am told you can still charge the battery this way), since I don't have USB 2.0. Is this a general trend to phasing out Firewire? I would have loved to see a jump up to Firewire 800 on iPods!

    Agreed, jeffdc
From the Ars Technica Vid-iPod "Vivisection" (Bottom of the second page)
<code>Most speculation concerning the lack of Firewire support in the new iPods center around the space needed to package the Firewire chipset within the device. Most people who seem to be in the know have said that the amount of board space needed to implement Firewire vastly outweighs a similar USB implementation. Eliminating Firewire altogether seems to have been one of the many tradeoffs Apple had to make to achieve a smaller and lighter device. This may not be much consolation to those users with old USB 1.1 ports, but for many Mac and Windows users, this change shouldn't affect them much.</code>
I think the digital video community would scream if FireWire went away.

  • Is Flash being phased out for Internet Applications?

I've been working on a conversion of a medium scale app from AS2 to AS3 for the past little while, and I can't help noticing the lack of updates for UI Components for Flash (notably DateChooser and Accordion ). Is this because of:
    1. There is a simple way to get those components from Flex builder and all components will be released to Flex first, and need to be rebuilt into flash?
    2. Flash is being phased out for web UI Dev and being directed back toward Animation only, leaving Flash UI developers to use Flex?
I fully understand that there is a component community, but I've had mixed luck with them and these two components seem like they should be core components. It seems somewhat telling to me that AS 3 has been out for a really long time now, and the Flash CS5 I bought still doesn't have a calendar component.
Either I'm missing something, or Adobe is telling me that the way I've been using flash is no longer supported and I should look elsewhere for creating Apps.
I really hope I'm missing something obvious but it seems like the idea died with CS3. Can someone clue me in on what's going on?
    Thanks in advance!

See if this brings you any joy: http://seeing-is-believing.blogspot.com/2007/11/flex-components-in-flash-example-with.html
Although it does require some work but it is still better than recreating the component which you wanna avoid

  • Datasocket being phased out?

    Hello all,
I am having a problem with the datasocket server crashing and in looking for a solution through the forums came upon this link
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=314367&query.id=427431#M314367
in which TWGomez states in message 5 of the thread that "DataSockets are being phased out" is there some place that this
phasing out is documented?  Someplace official from NI I mean?
    thanks in advance,
     C

I would like to start out by saying that we have no plan current plan to drop support for DataSocket.
I suspect that some of the confusion here is caused because the term "DataSocket" has multiple meanings. DataSocket can refer to the DSTP data-exchange protocol, and it can also refer to the API available both on the LabVIEW palette and as an ActiveX control which supports a number of data exchange mechanisms including DSTP and the NI-PSP protocol used by the shared variable. NI does encourage customers to use the shared variable protocol rather than the DSTP protocol for their apps, although we continue to provide support for DSTP. I suspect that this is where the confusion about DataSocket being phased out comes from. The DataSocket API is still actively supported as a compliment to the Shared Variable nodes, as well as a client for other data transmission mechanisms such as OPC.
I am also curious about the above comment. When you say that DataSocket allows access to third party devices, are you referring to the ability of the DataSocket API to act as an OPC client or something else?

  • Will the X301 laptop be phased out of the X series line-up?

The closest design that has come to the original IBM design is really going to phase out?
The build quality is the best out of all the thinkpads made by lenovo so far IMHO.
The rubberized feel inside and out is totally different to the other thinkpads and very iconic of the IBM days.
I would love to see this get a refresh with faster internal components I3 or I5 low voltage...
So can any of the Lenovo staff answer the original question whether the x301 will disappear and be replaced by the T410s?
If the internals in the T410s were in the chassis of a x301 then that would be the perfect laptop.

this is a peer to peer support site, and it is unlikely Lenovo will ever release a public statement regarding the future of the x301 line or whether they are officially phased out.
yes it is a great machine, and it will be missed. Even if there is an update it would use the ULV processor from the i5 or i7 range.
