SAP Management console security via HTTP
Hello,
We have just started using the HTTP connection to the SAP MMC via port 5<SysNR>13 and have found that you can connect straight to it without it asking for any authentication.
It does ask if you try to shut anything down and you have to be an administrator on the server as well otherwise it won't do anything, however you can freely look at the logs and other information without entering any passwords.
The Help for this new method of connecting just says how to use it and nothing about how to secure it.
Does anyone know of a way to get it to ask for a userid and password when you first connect to it?
Regards
Garry Bayford
Thanks, but I'm afraid that only really says how to protect the connection.
What I'd prefer is to have the console ask for a userid and password when you first connect to it.
We've found a profile parameter called service/prtoectedwebmethods that might be suitable as it may allow us to protect the individual items in the console itself. Not ideal but better than the current setup.

SAP Management Console security
Not sure if this is the correct section so apologies if not.
Does anyone know how to prevent just anyone using SAP management Console?
For example, if someone downloads it from SAP marketplace onto their PC, they can run it and enter instance info and see what is going on for that instance.
They can look at log files etc.
Is it possible to prevent anyone viewing this info?I am having the feeling you might want to read sap note [1439348 - Extended security settings for sapstartsrv|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1439348]
And nobody would have to download mmc from service marketplae, it is much simpler. All you need to do is to call http://<yourserver>:50013
But with the default configuration one cannot stop anything without proper authentication.
Kind regards, Michael -
SAP Management Console as part of Netweaver 7.0
Hi Colleagues,
We are running SAP Netweaver 7.0 with Unix and we have detected that
we have a security issue if we leave open the connection to the SAP
Management Console via web (http://<host>:5<instNum>13).
I have been looking for an alternative to disable the access to the
SAP MC via web without having to close the port 50013, but I havent
found any alternative for that.
Could you please advise me if it is posible to stop the SAP MC or to
disable this application via web?
Best Regards!Sorry , but that note is not clear and does not state how to disbale the SAP MC.
We need this as part of the security advise.
My env is windows and Portal is NW 701.
Please advise.
Regards,
Chaya -
Services in SAP management console and related window services and process
hai
can u please any one of you can send me the services in SAP management console and related window services(in adminstrator/services) and process in task manager.
thanks in advance.
Naga LaxmiHi Naga,
Please refer to this article for the processes relevant to the Java Instance:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/62/1bf03eae11e16be10000000a114084/frameset.htm
Except the processes of the Java instance you can find several processes of the IGS server and the ABAP disp+work processes.
You can easily find the relevant services by their SAP prefix.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards

Mohan.Dear krishna,
even if your thread is closed:
If you get this error in firefox you just have to install java plugin.
Please find documentation [here|http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Using%20the%20Java%20plugin%20with%20Firefox].
Best regards,
Alex

SAP Management Console : Error : MMC cannot open the file
We are installing the xmii system on a server, it was not installed completely.
Now we have deleted the xMII folders from Add and Remove in Control Panel.
After deleting these folders, when we are opening SAP Management Console, it is giving one <b>Error MMC cannot open the file "C:\WINDOWS\sapmmc.msc."</b>
Please help us to resolve this problem, we have no idea to resolve the same.
Regards,
Study SAPHi Alin,
Thanks for your reply, we have deleted only folders
- SAP xMII 11.5
- SAP xMII CMS 11.5
- SAP xMII Security 11.5
- Microsoft SQL Server folder
from control panel --> add and remove folder, when we were deleting these folders, IIS services were stopped by the system. After deleting the same we faced this problem.

Cannot start BW or HANA instances in SAP Management console
Hi,
I created instance of "SAP Business Warehouse 7.4 SP5 incl. SAP Business Objects BI 4.1 SP2 on SAP HANA 1.0 SP7". When I'm trying to start SAP BW or SAP HANA instances in "SAP Management console" via remote desktop connection I receive an error message :
"WebService error: 21 The operation timed out" / "The RPC server in unavailable".
Any ideas how to fix this?Hi,
See note: 535532
Mid way through the note it says:
You can then register the SAP J2EE Engine as a windows-service by using the SAP J2EE Engine Config Tool. Open a command prompt and change to the directory <J2EE Engine installation directory>configtool and run configtool.bat or start this tool via your Start-Menu "Tools->Config Tool" of the J2EE Server entry. Select at the left navigation area of this tool the entry "cluster/ server" the checkbox "Enabled" at the tabstrip "NT Service". Apply these settings by clicking on "File->Apply" at the menu. Do the same with the entry "cluster / dispatcher".
After you have finished these steps you can register now the J2EE Engine as a windows service.
Start service.exe, which is also located in the directory
<J2EE Engine installation directory>configtool. It works with three
parameters:
Service.exe u2013install u2013 the service(s) is (are) registered as NT/2000 Service(s). For each specified cluster node, a separate service is generated. All services have startup mode automatic. To start the service(s), open the Control Panel ¨Services folder. Find the service in the list of available services (for example: SAP J2EE Server 1, SAP J2EE Dispatcher 1, SAP J2EE Server 2, and so on). Select it, and choose u201CStartu201D on the right-hand side. No u201CStartup Parametersu201D are needed for the service to run. The system starts the particular J2EE Engine 6.20 node in background mode. It can be used and administered as usual. The only difference is that the server does not run in a console window.
There may be other notes along these lines.
You should also check any notes on the setup of SAP in MSCS cluster, as it will contain instructions for registering the services.
Hope this gives you a pointer in the right direction. -
Difference between SAP SLD and SAP Management console
Hello,
It seems that both System landscape directory and SAP management console have some overlapping features. The services can be started or stopped in both. Is it true? Does anyone know the difference between these 2 and where does Solution manager fit in?
Thanks
ShailikHi,
SAP SLD is the central information provider in a system landscape.this contains both Component information and Landscape description.COMPONENT Info in sense all the sap products and components along with their versions, And also third party products also.LANDSCAPE desc in sense the description of all the systems in particular landscape.
Example:This can shows exact idea for you.Components like CAF,Webdynpo(WD-java),BPM etc info. And the host names,Message server ports etc. Here we dont have start/stop functionality.
SAP MC provides a common framework for centralized system management. It allows you to monitor and perform basic administration tasks on the SAP system centrally, thus simplifying system administration. Using the SAP MC you can
1.Monitor and control (start, stop, or restart) the SAP system and its instances with a single tool
2.Monitor system alerts
3.Display the list of all access points to an SAP system etc.
We can see difference by looking into http://<host name>:<port>/index.html
Look and feel are also differ.
For more info you can go through these links of sap help.
For SAP SLD:http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/fe/39ae3d47afd652e10000000a114084/frameset.htm
For SAP MC:http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/44/c707c053550f2ce10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm

Check the following articles:
297064 - Error Message "Snap-in Failed to Initialize" When You Use Microsoft Management Console http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;297064&FR=1&PA=1&SD=HSCH305831 - "MMC Snap-In

Make sure the following files exist in your system folder (probably C:\Windows\system32). Then, make sure they are all registered.
certmgr.dll
filemgmt.dll
mycomput.dll
If noting else helps and in worse case perhaps re-install of Windows is necessary.

Error coming when starting SAP Management Console
Hi
Error is coming when trying to start the Server in Microsoft Management Console . Well this has started coming just now , it was working fine except one point i want to highlight is that on the machine WAS620gui was installed and i upgraded to WAS640 gui , so is it related to with the upgradation of gui ?
The error is :
Snap in failed to initialize |
Name : SAP system Manager |
CLSID {633547EE-A302-11D1-AE59-0800009B07DBB}|Hi
It seems that the registration of the sapmmc.dll failed.
You can recover SAP Management Console again by manually registering the MMC snap-in. Do the following:
Open a CMD.exe and walk through the directory containing the sapmmc.dll file (mostly is under %systemroot%\system32 directory) then execute the following command:
Regsvr32 sapmmc.dll
You should see a message confirmation that registration was successful.
Then start mmc again...it should now work smoothly!
Hope this helps!

How to rectify sap management console
hai sap guru's,
sap management console was deleted in my system, how can rectify this problem otherwise we need to install again
thanks & regards
sathish .nhi,
Copy the MMC console from Q/A system and paste it here.
If you are not having sap dll files in system32 folder means copy the same from another and paste it in this system.
