SAP MDM and Zycus or Zoomix or Kalido or Trillium

Hi All,
please, could you help me to understand better which is the best enterprise-wide master data management software solution for harmonizing, storing and managing master data over time??
Even if I’ll use SAP MDM; I need to cleanse and harmonize MD.
What about Zynapse? Kalido? Zoomix? Trillium??
Thank u in advance

Hi,
Kalido MDM :
Master (reference) data management is  thought as a special form of data warehouse federation(A ‘federated data warehouse’ consists of a set of data warehouse instances that operate semi-autonomously, are generally geographically or organizationally disparate, but which can be thought of as one large data warehouse).
However, experience shows that such systems are complex to manage and that, over time, the absence of a common warehouse (a single common source of master data) leads to inconsistency and frequent errors in transactional data.
Furthermore, such systems generally do not easily lend themselves to being rapidly adapted to new business requirements since they are often dependent upon writing low-level code to effect the revisions.
The high level architecture for a federated set of data warehouses with integrated data, based on maintenance of master data using a Master Data Warehouse, which supplies
master data to both the data warehouse federation and the underlying source systems.
It is important to note here that the Master Data Warehouse is in effect an operational system since it manages all master data flowing through the organization.
This demands effective processes and procedures for management and ownership of master data.
SAP MDM
Companies striving to accelerate business growth and improve business performance need to innovate and remain flexible to dynamic market forces. NetWeaver provides the ideal platform for enabling such innovation and flexibility. Satyam’s NetWeaver Practice provides a host of solutions based on the primary user interface (EP) framework, the primary integration engine (XI), the primary data management tool (MDM), and the business process orchestration tool that enable customers to:
Design, build, and implement new business processes
Knit together disparate processes and systems
Develop a unified view of information from every facet of the organization, and deliver it to stakeholders when and how they need it through a dedicated NetWeaver Center of Excellence
SAP Master Data Management (SAP MDM) enables master data on customers, partners and products to be consolidated and harmonized across the enterprise, making it available to all staff and business partners. A key component of SAP NetWeaver, SAP MDM ensures data integrity across all IT systems.
The SAP NetWeaver Master Data Management (SAP NetWeaver MDM) component of SAP NetWeaver creates the preconditions for enterprise services and business process management. The functionality represents customers, products, employees, vendors, and user-defined data objects in unified form. With SAP NetWeaver MDM, customers can manage master data and supplemental content, such as texts, PDF documents, high-resolution images, or diagrams in a central business information warehouse.
SAP Master Data Management (SAP MDM) is a component of SAP's NetWeaver product group and is used as a platform to consolidate, cleanse and synchronise a single version of the truth for master data within a heterogeneous application landscape. It has the ability to distribute internally and externally to SAP and non-SAP applications. SAP MDM is a key enabler of SAP Enterprise Service-Oriented Architecture. Standard system architecture would consist of a single central MDM server connected to client systems through SAP Exchange Infrastructure using XML documents, although connectivity without SAP XI can also be achieved. There are five standard implementation scenarios:
Content Consolidation - centralised cleansing, de-duplication and consolidation, enabling key mapping and consolidated group reporting in SAP BI. No re-distribution of cleansed data.
Master Data Harmonisation - as for Content Consolidation, plus re-distribution of cleansed, consolidated master data.
Central Master Data Management - as for Master Data Harmonisation, but all master data is maintained in the central MDM system. No maintenance of master data occurs in the connected client systems.
Rich Product Content Management - Catalogue management and publishing. Uses elements of Content Consolidation to centrally store rich content (images, PDF files, video, sound etc.) together with standard content in order to produce product catalogues (web or print). Has standard adapters to export content to DTP packages.
Global Data Synchronization - provides consistent trade item information exchange with retailers through data hubs (e.g. 1SYNC) Some features (for example, workflow) require custom development out of the box to provide screens for end users to use.
Trillium :
It is basically used for Data profiling. It can be used for data enhancements with certain address masters and other masters avaialble in the box. There is a lot of data quality analysis can be done in Trillium
Advantages of Zoomix :
1.Fast, accurate, automated, self-learning system :
2.No scripting or rule development required – Zoomix Accelerator never requires the development of scripts or the manual definition or maintenance of data processing rules. The system automatically interprets data to learn the optimal matching, normalization and classification required for any data domain.
3.Processes all types of complex corporate data – Zoomix Accelerator works equally well with product data, customer data, supplier data, financial data, etc. – in any language or combination of languages.
4.Rapid integration into existing applications and business workflows – The system's integration with daily user workflow provides objective, on-the-fly data correction. Erroneous, duplicated and incorrectly categorized data are repaired immediately, without disrupting routine business functions.

can someone describe the product history (SAP MDM) and evolution

    Hi SasikanthReddy M,
can someone describe the product history (SAP MDM) and evolution
This is what one of the blog says on this:
MDM product was available for the last few years and its last version was MDM 3.0 this product was ABAP based tool with very strong capabilities in large scale data integration and consolidation between SAP systems, the problem with this tool was that it was too complicated for implementation and less strong in the client side.
In order to make it better SAP had to decide whether to invest more development efforts or buy some other product that will be able to provide the missing capabilities, during the quest for this tool SAP found this Israeli company called A2I and their product called xCat. Even though the xCat product was intended for product catalog management SAP identified the grate potential in it both from conceptual and technical point of view and decided to buy it and make it SAPu2019s MDM product.
At first this product was called MDME (MDM Extension) but now it was announced as the MDM official tool by SAP. The MDM5.5 tools is a very sophisticated tool from one hand providing great Data Modeling , data consolidation, fast data extraction , and search capabilities, and from the other hand it is very simple for installation and implementation (both from infrastructure point of view and end user experience). So now SAP has a very strong offering in the MDM world:
Now the lastest version of MDm is MDM 5.5 SP06.
    Hope it helps.

  • SAP MDM and Informatica ETL as Integration Tool

    HI Expert's
We have a Scenario where i want to use Informatica ETL as a Middle ware. Informatica will pull the data from legacy and will post a tab delimited file in MDM inbound folder.
can any one guide me how to achieve this ? what all steps need to be defined at Informatica ETL Level does any one know ?
I wont be using FTP for this activity si is there any other way for this?
Thanks in advance to all of you.
    Regards
    Praful.

    Hi Praful,
You are free to use any middleware as long as it gives data in required format to MDM
It depends what data you want to pull from source system using middleware. for Main table data (records) I am sure Middleware like informatica can place data in MDM inbound folder directly, then you don't need to Make it as FTP enabled. If NOT then you need tomake FTP enabled.
About reference data you need to decide how will you pull that from source system. Since it is not very frequent activity and if you have less number look-ups then even we can prepare data in spreadsheet and pull in MDM. Also check with Informatica if they can pull reference data from source system and place in MDM inbound folder of respective ports. If possible then you don't need to make it FTP enabled.
Having Informatica as middleware will also be helpful to carry your cleasing actvity. Update us on your views.

  • SAP MDM field status and SAP ERP field status

Just wanted to understand what are the implications of a field status mismatch between SAP MDM and SAP ECC for Vendor Masters. Further, what happens in a scenario where the vendor master data is changed directly in SAP ECC. I am presuming that both systems will not be in sync as the MDM system talks one way and updates the SAP ECC system. Or is there a feasibility whereby any change carried out in SAP ECC is also routed back to SAP MDM.

    Hi,
Basically MDM is implemented in order to maintain Master Data at single location, such that control can be incorporate in flow of Master Data.
Thus it is recommended that master data should be changed or created in MDM itself and than syndicated to other systems.
But in case Master Data need to be changed in ECC, MDM ABAP API's can be used to update data in MDM Repositories directly from ECC so that Master Data remains in Sync.
(Using MDM ABAP APIs, code can e developed in ECC to update fields in MDM.)

    Hello,
I wanted know what are the standard approaches for MDM architecture and MDM Implementation:
    MDM Implementation phases:
what are standard phases recomended by SAP?
    Architecture:
what are different mdm architectures that an Enterprise can think of?

    Hello  SudhaViz
SAP MDM can work as independent solution for master data management.
SAP MDM has own servers( MDM Server, Import Server, Sysndication Server, Layout Server, and user application s for server management and master data management.
SAP MDM can work with different RDBMS like as Oracle , MS SQL, My SQL, DB2.
Here is good presentation about SAP MDM and it's business scenarios:

  • Data Quality Comparison Report across Systems(MDM and BW)

    Hi,
I have a requirement of generating a Data comparison report in Excel using BODS. I need to extract data from SAP MDM and SAP BW and do a comparison on the record basis. For example.I take a material 100 record from MDM and same Material 100 record  from SAP BW. I  have to compare field by field values between these 2 systems. If there is any contingency,I have provide that record as output in Excel.
I think i need to create a batch  job in BODS to run this requirement. Could you please tell  me the approach of comparing the records in BODS and give the output of the record in Excel.
    I really appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Kumar.

    Hi,
    The steps are :
To read data from BW need to create a open hub detination based on the datatarget where the data is stored.
Read the MDM data to BODS and then in BODS.
Once both the data from BW and MDM are sotred in BODS then create a pioneer report which is based on excel.

    Hi Elmar,
I have checked the packages and the XFree86-libs-4.3.99 is not installed. I guess I will have to install it.
Now your question about oracle user. I am not sure if you have performed any SAP MDM installation with ORACLE RDBMS but the installation guide is totally different than the normal SAP inst guides. Indeed someone needs to install separately SAP MDM and ORACLE and in my installation I do not install NetWeaver since it is not mandatory for the testing phase of the project. You can have a look at the guide (it is very poor -no reference to ORACLE details):
    https://websmp105.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700000271882007E
So the official ORACLE inst gudie says to install the ORACLE software with the oracle user.

  • SAP MDM Non SAP Systems

    Hi Gurus,
I am new to MDM. Can you tell me how to link up SAP MDM and a Non SAP client. How does the data flow from the client to MDM.
    Grateful for your help
    Regards
    Leo Gift

    Hi Leo
If you are using a middleware to connect the source & destination, then the file formats supported by middleware will be the limiting factor for data communication. The data from source systems gets converted to the format supported by middeware & then output file from the middleware can be in one of the forms supported by import manager.
Similarly in syndication, the output can be xml or flat file formats.

  • SAP MDM Vs IBM MDM

    Hello Experts,
I am new to MDM, and want to know what is difference between SAP MDM and IBM MDM.
Also please provide some good documetation on SAP MDM.
For what it is used, what are the advantages of using it and all.

    hi,
SAP MDM:SAP MDM enables master data on customers, partners and products to be consolidated and harmonized across the enterprise, making it available to all staff and business partners. A key component of SAP NetWeaver, SAP MDM ensures data integrity across all IT systems. With SAP NetWeaver MDM, customers can manage master data and supplemental content, such as texts, PDF documents, high-resolution images, or diagrams in a central business information warehouse.
    Advantages of SAP MDM
SAP Master Data Management (SAP MDM) is a component of SAP's NetWeaver product group and is used as a platform to consolidate, cleanse and synchronise a single version of the truth for master data within a heterogeneous application landscape. It has the ability to distribute internally and externally to SAP and non-SAP applications. SAP MDM is a key enabler of SAP Enterprise Service-Oriented Architecture. Standard system architecture would consist of a single central MDM server connected to client systems through SAP Exchange Infrastructure using XML documents, although connectivity without SAP XI can also be achieved
There are five standard implementation scenarios:
    Content Consolidation
    Master Data Harmonisation
    Central Master Data Management
    Rich Product Content Management
    Global Data Synchronization
    The IBM View
In IBM's view, MDM is a set of disciplines, technologies, and solutions used to create and maintain consistent, complete, contextual, and accurate business data for all stakeholders (users, applications, data warehouses, processes, enterprises, trading partners, and so on). It's a holistic framework for managing structured and unstructured data that's aligned with business processes and managed throughout the information life cycle
To a large extent, SAP’s NetWeaver initiatives are concessions to the reality of heterogeneity. No customer is going to have a completely SAP- or Oracle-based environment. With NetWeaver and Fusion, SAP and Oracle propose to accommodate the heterogeneous data-access requirements of their customers while keeping their bread-and-butter application software at the heart of things.
IBM’s middleware vision displaces the primacy of the ERP vendors. It’s probably too much to say that customers who embrace Big Blue’s WebSphere data integration middleware can pick and choose from between and among best-of-breed financial, SCM, and MRP (among others) products for their enterprise application needs. If nothing else, however, IBM’s data integration and MDM middleware stack does give customers an alternative to SAP .
However one of the problems with IBM’s approach to MDM is that, taken in isolation, it would mean that application vendors would need to completely rewrite their applications to take advantage of the MDM layer. This isn’t going to happen, not least because vendors like SAP have their own MDM capabilities.
Moreover, users those do not want to convert to IBM's new multiform MDM offering will have to
negotiate separate maintenance agreements to protect their long-term investments in
WPC (which is WebSphere Product Center is a product information management solution for building a consistent central repository.).
Lastly, users should work with IBM to ensure that the standard IBM three-year
maintenance commitment will continue with the current WPC product, independent of
any move to a single MDM platform.

  • Evaluating SAP MDM

Hello everybody we are new to SAP MDM and we are evaluating it but we have some doubts can anybody help me with the nexts points:
1.- Can we get SAP MDM wihthout SAP Netweaver??, it's in my understanding that SAP MDM is an application separte from common SAP applications and was not developed by SAP and contains it's own repository and don't run on a WebAS, it's obligatory to get SAP Netweaver to get SAP MDM???.
2.- To connect SAP MDM with SAP R/3 4.6C it's obligatory to use SAP XI as Process Integrator or can we connect SAP MDM and SAP R/3 4.6C by RFC, iDoc's or any other interface like a SAP MDM Adapter????
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Regards
    Julio Cesar

    Hi Julio,
SAP MDM itself is a kind of platform rather an application, & MDM is one of the component of SAP Netweaver platform, without WebAS and Portal & XI it is difficult to deploy & map the requirement of customer into SAP MDM.

  • IBM MDM vs. SAP MDM

The company has decided to use IBM MDM rather then SAP MDM as there preferred master data management tool.  However, we would like to also implement SAP SRM 6.0 in the near future and we're wondering if choosing IBM MDM instead of SAP MDM will cause problems with SRM?
Does anyone know the key touch points between SAP MDM and SAP SRM?  Has anyone had SAP SRM and used a MDM tool other then SAP MDM?

SAP MDM comes with the catalog with search and alternative features such as spares which you are aware. In fact I understand from SAP that SAP MDM is the preffered catalog solution rather than going from the SRM side - particularly because SRM catalog is not freely available with SAP SRM - While with SAP MDM it is.
IBM MDM does not have a good integration with SAP SRM - infact needs the configuration changes each time the catalog is modified.
With SAP MDM - there is a standard Business Content delivered respository which you can extend while with IBM you will have to implement both WPC and WCC to get this - hence double license cost and double logins
    Hope this helps.

  • Using the Open Catalog Interface (OCI) between SAP-ECC 6.0 and SAP-MDM

    Hello ASUG Community.
I'm working on an SAP-MDM project where we will configure the OCI interface between SAP-ECC 6.0 and SAP-MDM.  The business requirement will be to punch out to SAP-MDM's catalog from SAP-ECC for expensed items (e.g., no material master record exists in SAP-ECC).
The data that will be returned to SAP-ECC will be purchase price info, material group, short text, & our global SAP-MDM item number.
The question I've been trying to design around is "where to store the SAP-MDM item number"?
I've looked into creating a custom filed on EKPO but now feel that a configured text field will be the best solution from an SAP-ECC point of view (less effort on the SAP-ECC side from a development perspective, no need to regenerate the EKPO table, etc.).
The question I'd like to pose to ASUG is.... Does anyone have experience or an opinion to offer using this functionality?  It seems that I will have to code in a user exit or BAdi to insure that the SAP-MDM item numbers are returned to the appropriate text field on my POu2019s.  Or can this be done using the standard OCI functionality?
I found OSS note 1347656 which references BADI "ME_CATALOG_INTERFACE" but I'm not sure if this right path to go down or if this would be the correct place to code non-conforming OCI mapping requiremetns.
Any insight would be most appreciated.
    Thanks.  Sincerely,
    Rich Wortmann

I would suggest you create a new field for this as you may require thois going forward for reporting as well. Text fields are difficult to report.
Sorry not sure about the BADI to use.
