SAP MDM-GDS repository structure

Hi,
Does anybody have any input or knowledge of SAP's direction regarding repository structures for MDM and GDS now that they've begun integrating the functions into the MDM solution the offer?
At present, whilst the GDS Console is basically just accessing data in an MDM repository, it can't be your core MDM product data repository, but rather it has to be a separate one, set up specifically for GDS and nothing else, and thus it needs to be populated separately.  I am wondering if this is a long term vision, or just a result of the way the package has been developed and that further integration will be forthcoming.
Any ideas?
Steve

Hello lis716
I'm not recomend working with SAP MDM database directly moreover modify some data at Database level because database structure is close information. (i had expiriens to mass upload users and their roles directly in MDM database, after that operation repository hasn't been started - repair returned a lot of errors and i was very happy when repository has been started)
You can lost important data because database structure may be modify in any time.
SAP MDM provide API for different development platforms as is .NET, ABAP, JAVA, COM.
My suggestion you should use API in your application for connect to data.
Additional information about API you can find here:

  • GDS repository for MDM server

    Greetings,
A couple questions for GDS experts...
    1. Is there a GDS repository for MDM server? I am asking about an .a2a file. I am not able to find one. Could you please guide me to the location from where I can download it?  Thanks.
    2. When we extract data from ERP, it is stored on MDM server. This much I gathered from different presentations but in which repository does it go to?
    3. If there is an MDM repository for GDS solution then can we modify it and add more fields to it?

    Hi,
I checked the directory listing of the folder where I extracted that zip file and as you can see below there is no a2a file.

  • SAP MDM Console not allowing to add new fields or load repository

    Hi all,
We are in SAP MDM 7.1 SP06. I do have access to create table, fields, ports etc., And I also have access to load and unload repository.
But when I login to SAP MDM Console and repository, options to load repository --> immediate and update indices are disabled. This is happening for Add/ Delete Table/Fields/Port etc.,
However, if I login to repository using MDM console in another laptop or system using the same userid, I am able to perform all the operations mentioned above.
Can you please help me with any suggestions to fix this. I do not want to reimage my laptop now inorder to fix this.
I tried to uninstall and install mdm console again but in vain.
    Thanks,
    Rajesh

    Hi Rajesh,
In the Main Menu you have a lock sign, click on that and unlock the view.
    This should solve the problem.

  • Can any body help me to create a meaningful repository in SAP MDM

    Hi ,
I am new to this area . I have read the RKT material provided for MDM 5.5 SP4 and have the software installed with me . I know how to create repositories but what I am looking at is some help where someone can provide me with some repository structure and corresponding excel files so that I can exactly replicate the scenario in my server and learn to import the data . I am looking for a scenario which involves some hierarchies/taxonomies and lookup tables . The excel files for such a repository structure would certainly help .
Can someone help me out with this ?
    Thanks
    Ravikumar

    Ravi,
If you allow, this is what I would suggest -
    1) First focus on the concepts. Understand how MDM goes beyond the traditional database concepts of master child relationship and uses concepts of Hierarchy Table, Taxonomy/Attributes tables, Qualified Lookups etc. RKT material exercises are good enough for quick ramp-up on these concepts. Once you have got the concepts, you will be able to easily create a XLS file yourself. Also the fun is not in importing an XLS file that has been created specifically for import into MDM. Any logical data structure in xls should be importable into MDM by using the functionality of MDM Import Manager
    2) In the RKT material you should find an exercise called Case Study. I am emailing a Spreadsheet that created to use with this exercise. It is basically a Products Main Table, with Manufacturers coming from a Hierarchy Look table and Categories and Attributes table to store product classifications.
Let me know if this was helpful.

  • Brief discussion on SAP XI and its' Integration with SAP MDM.

    Hi,
I have never worked on SAP XI.
I am discussing it on brief, please give your valuable replies.
SAP XI consists of System Landascape Directory(SLD).
SLD Consists of Business System and Techinical System.
Technical System contains all information about the software
component. The Business System consists of Inbound and Outbound Business
System which are used as logical names for data transfer.
There is communication Channel for Receiver and Sender Business System and n agreement
is signed between Sender and Receiver.
Outbound Interface defined for Business System Outbound and Techical System associated
    with the Business System,
Inbound Interface defined for Business System Inbound and Techical System associated
    with the Business System.
In SAP NetWeaver XI Integration Directory, we have defined the Integration Scenarios,
Actions, Interface Objects, Mapping Objects, Adapters Objects.
Mapping Object defines the Structure and Value Mapping.
Adapter Objects defines the Adapter program which implements RFC Adapter, FTP Adapter logic.
FTP Adapter is used for XI-MDM Communication.
RFC Adapter is used for XI-ECC Communication.
Integration Repository: Both Outbound and Inbound Interfaces are Mapped with Value mapping and
    Structure Mapping inside Integration Repository.
The File Adapter takes the File from the Outbound port of MDM System
and sends it as IDOC to Receiver Business System.
Value Mapping must be done between Sender and Receiver interfaces.
Value Mapping is done by XSLT or Java based program.
SAP NetWeaver XI Integration Server at runtime:
Message Split, Interface Determination, Receiver Identifaction, Mapping, Techincal Routing
and Call Adapter Proccess are done.
In SAP XI 3.0 and MDM 5.5:
Step 1: Create busines system as service.
Step 2: Create communication channel for each business service. If the system can communicate
through different channels, then create all possible channel types if necessary.
Step 3: Create receiver agreement between the systems.
    Step 4: Interface determination:
    - Here you see for the first time the software component mentioned;
there are some special requirements regarding this software component in relation to the customizing ID mapping.
    - To modify this software component, the customer needs to copy the SAP standard delivered software component
into its own namespace. The customer is able to modify to create archives
    for the customized ID mapping.
    Receiver determination.
Configure an FTP Server on the MDS.
Create a send folder for outbound messages using outbound port(s) for
    remote systems(s).
Create receive folder inbound messages using inbound port(s) for remote systems.
This ia all about concept of SAP XI Infractsture and its' Integration with SAP MDM 5.5.
    Regards
    Kaushik Banerjee

    Hi Kaushik,
You must be aware of File types that MDM Import Manager can Import i.e. we have XML, Excel etc. Now there are two transactions to extract data from R3
    1. MDMGX -
             - For lookup table extraction
             - Output in XML format which MDM can import without using XI.
              - FTP can be configured to put the file in the desired folder which will be then picked by Import Server.
    2. MDM_CLNT_EXTR -
              - For Main table records.
              - Output is in Idoc format which MDM doesn't understand hence we need XI in between which converts Idoc file received from R3 into XML which can then be imported using Import Manager or Import Server. For this we need to implement XI Scenario that consists of Source System, Receiver System, Type of Data etc.
    Just a basic understanding...

  • SAP MDM Port Creation not Possible

    Hi,
I am not able to create MDM Inbound Port for my Repository.
The problem is I am not getting the XML Format is coming as Deactivated.
    Regards
    Kaushik Banerjee

    Hi Kaushik ,
To import a XML source file in to MDM from a Remote sytem using the port:
    - Create an XML schema which will define the structure of the incoming XML file .and upload this xml schema under the XML schema table in mdm console under teh Admin node
    - After this create the port in MDM with type as inbound.
    - Select the the XML Format for importing in the format property and the XML schema which you have uploaded in console.
    - Make the processing type as Manual if you are going for manual importing or else change it to automatic and configure the MDIs.ini file accordingly.
Refer the use of XML schema table in Console in the below link:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_mdm550/helpdata/en/8e/9f9c427055c66ae10000000a155106/frameset.htm
If you are importing a standard XML file from the ERP system you will have to acc use the std XML like Matmas05 for a Material record frm R/3 or ECC else if you are importing a test data which corresponds to the MDM repository structure you can generate the XSD using Xomlite software and the exported schema from MDM rep(rep->rt clik->export schema)
    Hope It Helped,
    Thanks & Regards

  • SAP MDM Work Flows Status

    Hi Tim,
I am using SP5 not SP4, and workflow also enters in received mode after launched. But after that it goes to TRASH, and this behaviour only comes when i add some new fields to main table. is this the only reason for trash status or something more behind it. and also is it an actual status for workflows or its an uncommon behaviour.
Thanks Tim your suggession really works for me.

In General Console talks about repository structures we cant do any record manipulation. Basically it can be done at MDM DATA Manager level (in recent SPs), earlier its called CLIENT. Launch MDM Client along with the same repository, change workflow as your current table and there you can add records, assign records and launch the same.
    MDM WorkFlow
You can find MDM workflow under Record mode.
MDM there are no Tcodes as we use in SAP R/3.
Basis related stuff is to maintain console which has repoaitories and Role and authorization (user and assignment of Roles to user)
    MDM has four main component
Console, Import Manager, Data Manager, Syndicator.
Please feel free to revert to me for further clarifications.

  • SAP MDM Vs IBM MDM

    Hello Experts,
I am new to MDM, and want to know what is difference between SAP MDM and IBM MDM.
Also please provide some good documetation on SAP MDM.
For what it is used, what are the advantages of using it and all.
    Thanks,

    hi,
SAP MDM:SAP MDM enables master data on customers, partners and products to be consolidated and harmonized across the enterprise, making it available to all staff and business partners. A key component of SAP NetWeaver, SAP MDM ensures data integrity across all IT systems. With SAP NetWeaver MDM, customers can manage master data and supplemental content, such as texts, PDF documents, high-resolution images, or diagrams in a central business information warehouse.
    Advantages of SAP MDM
SAP Master Data Management (SAP MDM) is a component of SAP's NetWeaver product group and is used as a platform to consolidate, cleanse and synchronise a single version of the truth for master data within a heterogeneous application landscape. It has the ability to distribute internally and externally to SAP and non-SAP applications. SAP MDM is a key enabler of SAP Enterprise Service-Oriented Architecture. Standard system architecture would consist of a single central MDM server connected to client systems through SAP Exchange Infrastructure using XML documents, although connectivity without SAP XI can also be achieved
There are five standard implementation scenarios:
    Content Consolidation
    Master Data Harmonisation
    Central Master Data Management
    Rich Product Content Management
    Global Data Synchronization
    The IBM View
In IBM's view, MDM is a set of disciplines, technologies, and solutions used to create and maintain consistent, complete, contextual, and accurate business data for all stakeholders (users, applications, data warehouses, processes, enterprises, trading partners, and so on). It's a holistic framework for managing structured and unstructured data that's aligned with business processes and managed throughout the information life cycle
To a large extent, SAP’s NetWeaver initiatives are concessions to the reality of heterogeneity. No customer is going to have a completely SAP- or Oracle-based environment. With NetWeaver and Fusion, SAP and Oracle propose to accommodate the heterogeneous data-access requirements of their customers while keeping their bread-and-butter application software at the heart of things.
IBM’s middleware vision displaces the primacy of the ERP vendors. It’s probably too much to say that customers who embrace Big Blue’s WebSphere data integration middleware can pick and choose from between and among best-of-breed financial, SCM, and MRP (among others) products for their enterprise application needs. If nothing else, however, IBM’s data integration and MDM middleware stack does give customers an alternative to SAP .
However one of the problems with IBM’s approach to MDM is that, taken in isolation, it would mean that application vendors would need to completely rewrite their applications to take advantage of the MDM layer. This isn’t going to happen, not least because vendors like SAP have their own MDM capabilities.
Moreover, users those do not want to convert to IBM's new multiform MDM offering will have to
negotiate separate maintenance agreements to protect their long-term investments in
WPC (which is WebSphere Product Center is a product information management solution for building a consistent central repository.).
Lastly, users should work with IBM to ensure that the standard IBM three-year
maintenance commitment will continue with the current WPC product, independent of
any move to a single MDM platform.
    Regards
    Nisha

  • MDM - Product Repository

From my understanding, the basic MDM package contains one repository for 'Product'.  Has anyone thought about creating two repositories for product data - one for purchased materials and another one for produced materials?  Would SAP support this type of repository structure?  Can anyone think of any pitfalls with having two repositories?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Suzanne,
SAP MDM comes with 5 standard repositories, which are similar/replica to R/3 structure.
    1. Material
    2. Vendor
    3. Employee
    4. Customer
    5. Article.
The Product repository you are talking about, when you create a new Repository from MDM Console, which is a skelton to maintain Product catalog, but you can always customize/enhance by adding tables and fields according to u r needs.
In MDM you can maintain any kind of master data. It does not have any limitations.
In your case, Is "Purchased materials" and "Produced materials" are 2 different set of master data objects or does both have any commonality except few fileds?
As you might be knowing as of MDM SP3 there is no standard cross repository communication thru the existing tools. The only way you can communicate across the repositories using the API (Java/.Net).
I would suggest go thru some of the business scenarios available in SAP Service market place before you start.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Step by step procedure of SAP MDM process

    Hi PP Gurus,
Can anybody give me the step by step process of SAP MDM.
    Regards,
    Pramod

    Hi,
1.First of all you need to know the list of the source systems whose master data you need to maintain in MDM.You can have the source data in the form of XML, excel or MS Access etc. The first thing you need to perform is designing of the repository in the MDM console wherein you have the structure for the incoming data . Here you also need to create the users , roles , mention the remote systems from where you are extracting the data .Then Extract or import source data (e.g. Customer master data, Product master data, etc) from connected remote sytems i.e client applications.
    2. Consolidate this data centrally on MDM, cleanse it.
    3. Then harmonize or export the data through MDM syndicator tool. Then if there is FTP then dump all your XML data in the FTP from where SAP XI would pick the data and send it back to the different client systems from where you have fetched the data.
    4. In the client applications, the received data can be complemented with local attributes.
Reward points if it is helpful.

    Thanks for Help!

    Hi Pedro,
SAP has provided with some standard business content for customer, vendor, material, article, product, employee and business partner objects.
For these objects they have defined different field objects or tables that constitutue various organizational structure, bank details, plants, location etc. imformation.
These business content are in .a2a file format. You need to unzip the archieve file and place it in the MDM archieve folder .then you can unarchive it from the MDM console and use this predesigned MDM repository.
Refer to the below notes for more detail.

  • Help Required -- Can we use SQL Query to READ data from SAP MDM Tables

    Hi All,
    Please help.........
Can we use SQL Query to READ(No Creation/Updation/Deletion  just Read) Data from SAP MDM tables directly, without using MDM Syndicator.
Or direct SQL access to SAP MDM tables is not possible. Only through MDM Syndicator can we export data.
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards

All the tables you create in Repository comes under A2i_CM_Tables in Database named as your repository name. So the tables names are fields of table A2i_CM_Tables. Now i tried it but cant make it.
Now, I dont think its possible to extract all fields in tables and there values using select query. May be pure sql guy can do that or not.
But there is no relation of data extraction and syndicator. Data is viewed in Data Manager. and you can also store data in a file from DM also.
