  • Problem with database instance installation

    Hi@all,
    I'm dealing with the installation of the sap solution manager 3.2 SR1.
    The platform is a win 2000 server, I use Oracle as the database.
    Oracle was installed successfully and the installation of the central instance terminated without errors.
    Now I try to install the next step, the database instance.
    I always choosed the standard parameters, except for I choosed no domain installation and unchecked using SLD.
    Nevertheless, the installation procedure stops at step 16 with the following error log entry (partially translated from german to english):
    System call failed. Error 1332 (Allocations of account names and safety identifications were not accomplished.
    ) in execution of system call 'LookupAccountName' with parameter (NULL, Administrators, ...), line (305) in file (synxcaccmg.cpp).
    I've attached the full logfille here.
    Looks like sapinst cannot get the system user parameters?
    How could I solve this? Any idea?

    This was the clue
    I read through the whole planning and preparation tutorial and through the preinstallation and installation tutorial.
    There's no recommondation to have the english os version installed.
    But better such an easy problem instead of a difficult one
    Thanks a lot!

  • Problem installing Database Instance

    Help,
    I am installing the WAS 640 SR1 Abap on a sandbox running Windows 2003 Server.
    I've installed Oracle.
    Installed the Central Instance.
    But when I try to install the database instance with SAPInst, it gets to the stage:
    Prepare Oracle Network Configuration
    It then copies the Listener.ora and creates a new file Listener.1.ora
    Then the installation fails with the message:
    Unable to set time for file listener.1.ora
    Does anyone know how to solve this and continue the installation ?
    Thanks,
    Tomas.

    Hi,
    I solved it in the end and here's how I did it:
    I backed up the originals of the tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora and listener.ora
    then I renamed the originals of all three to something else which mean't that to SAPInst they didn't exist
    then I ran the installation and SAPInst worked fine because it created new files for each which it had no problem doing instead of trying to modify and save the original.
    Tomas.

    Hi Tomas,
    Firstly check that you are full administrator of the OS and check the following policy privileges are assigned to your user:
    Act as part of the operating system
    Increase quotas
    Replace a process level token
    Do this via:
    Navigate to the security policy console via:
    Start Menu>Settings>Control Panel>Administrative tools>Local Security Policy
    In the window for the Local Security Policy you will find each of the following policy above.
    Double click on each of the items listed & click the button “Add User or Group”. In the next window enter the username that you are performing the installation with and apply.
    If still the problem occurs "Take ownership" of the file system using the account that you are logged in with.
    This should get you past the problem
    Cheers

    Hi,
    I am having the same with my installation on SolMan3.2 Oracle 9.2.0.7 patch.  The error is exactly the same as the one is showing here on all of the log for each task type. How to correct this error is greatly appreciate it. I have checked both notes mentioned in the post, and all environment checked.
    However, when I ran the select statement:
    SELECT VALUE FROM V$NLS_PARAMETERS WHERE PARAMETER='NLS_CHARACTERSET';
    my result> WE8DEC
    my environment is set correctly for parameter: ORA_NLS33=AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8DEC
    I am very appreciate any help due to the urgency of this post.

  • MNLS - SAP 4.7 installation - database instance (IDES)

    hi,
    I am installing SAP 4.7. Now I am on a step in the installationprocess (installing database instance) where I must decide if I want to install with MNLS (Multi National Language Support) or without. Why does I need this option?
    I would like to use the english and german language. Should I use the option MNLS?
    thanks
    mike

    Hi,
    if you're only using one code page, you don't need to perform a MNLS installation. So if you just want to install German and English, don't install MNLS.

    Seb.

  • Connection problem to database instance

    Hi,
    I am very confuse for this situation.
    I have server with two db instance runing and also even one instance running.
    I am trying to connect to server or db with OEM or any third party tool. but it fails with following error: but it works fine when i physically log in to server with putty or ther unix server. Oracle 9i and 10g on Unix
    TNS-03505 Failed to resolve name
    ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name
    I checked the tnsnames.ora is fine here is the following:
    log =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS =
    (PROTOCOL = TCP)
    (HOST = Servername)
    (PORT = 1521)
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = log)
    here is the SQLnet.ora:
    NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN = domainname
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, ONAMES, HOSTNAME)

    You realize, of course, that the tnsnames.ora file is used on the <b><i>client</i></b> side of the connection, right? So, if the process that is trying to connect to the db is running on your desktop, you need to be looking at the tnsnames on your desktop, not the db server.
    Accept my apology if you already understood that. You'd be surprised how many people show up here with essentially the same question because the do <i>not</i> understand that.

  • How to make database instances available in the SAP MMC

    Hello,
    I have been trying to figure out on how to make a database instance, which I installed on the MSSQL Server, available in the SAP Management Console in order to start the instance. I am able to view the instance over the Enterprise Manager of the MSSQL Sever, but I cannot start it from there (this is only possible from the SAP MMC). I have the SAP MMC installed on my computer, but just cannot figure out on how to control the instance from there because I cannot see it.
    I hope someone can help me on this matter!
    Thanks....
    Katharina

    Hello Katharina,
    Run SAP MMC and right-click to SAP R/3 Systems.
    Choose properties and go to Fixed tab.
    In 'System' field enter Your SID (e.g. EBP)
    In 'Instance' field enter hostname<space>instance number (e.g. epb01 10) Remember, there is space between ebp01 and 10.
    Click on 'Add' button and then OK.

    What do mean with administrative priviledges? there is no administrativ priviledge on Windows. We only have a local group administrators.
    in 4.7 sapinst will put erpadm and sapserviceerp to the local administrators group. There is no need to do it manually.
    But this will not help in this case, because local Administrators did not have the rights
    - replace process level token
    - act as part of the operating system
    if you don't believe me have a look at gpedit.msc Local Computer Policy - Computer Configartion - Windows Settings - Security Settings - Local Policy - User Rights Assignemt.
    But as I already told you, log on and log off will fix this rights problem.
    2. regarding memory: RAM is physical Memory
    did I read right you are trying to install 4.7 on a 256 MB box?
    forget that!  256 MB is often too less for office application. Enterprise Style applications and database will need at least ten times 256 MB (and even that is too small).
    By the way Pagefile needs to be at least 4-8 GB.

    Hey Eli,
    It looks like a memory issue. It would be good if you could provide more lines from db2diag.log file.
    Please make sure that DB2 configuration complies with the default suggested. Below link would help you understand better.
    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/db2luw/v9r5/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.db2.luw.qb.server.doc/doc/t0008238.html
    More over set the ulimit for virtual memory and maximum memory size to unlimited in order to maximize the use of your current physical memory, after that restart DB2.
    Please let us know if issue gets resolved.
    Cheers!!!

    Robinson

    Hi Robinson,
    The error seems to be db connect error, so please try to check
    1. set the environment variable dbs_ora_schema=SAP<SID>
    dbs_ora_tnsname=SID
    EG :
    dbms_type=ORA
    dbs_ora_tnsname=HX1
    dbs_ora_schema=SAPHX1
    ORACLE_PSRV=HX1
    ORACLE_SID=HX1
    DB_SID=HX1
    ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/HX1/920_64
    ORACLE_BASE=/oracle
    ORA_NLS33=/oracle/client/92x_64/ocommon/nls/admin/data
    Where HX1 is the SID for instance.
    2. start the database and then try running the installation.try also starting instance and listener
    Let me know if this helps.

    Vineet
