SAP NW BPM and NW CE in heterogeneous system landscape and SOX

Hi,
Does anybody have experience with implementation of SAP NW BPM in a heterogeneous system environment (SAP, non-SAP, Legacy) in regards to detailed audit requirements (SOX compliance)? SAP Business Workflow is well established regarding SOX compliancy. But, what about NW BPM?
Thanks for you replies in advance.
Shahram

Hi Shahram,
Not sure about the way you are implementing BPM in SAP/NonSAP scenario, but in BPM you can have detailed reporting and analytics for auditing purpose.
You can also create your own data source and pass data values from the process.

  • Rename "BPM and Workflow" forum to "SAP Business Workflow"

    G'Day,
99% of posts in the [BPM and Workflow|SAP Business Workflow; forum deal with SAP Business Workflow. It was originally intended for ccBPM which - though they share some underlying architecture - is basically XI / PI.
A few ccBPM posts occasionally appear in the WF forum, but they are generally not answered and more appropriate in XI. These days I usually move them to XI when it's clear that the 'local' population won't answer it.
So to avoid confusion for people I propose to rename the forum to SAP Business Workflow or at least something that doesn't confuse it with XI.
    Any input welcome.
    Cheers,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
Well, you probably already know what I think ;).
If there is little to no traffic for BPM, then let's call the forum what it is, SAP Business Workflow - Or Workflow and Guided Procedures?
Sidebar: I posted a question to various forums a few weeks ago, regarding 'How can SAP, and ASUG WF/BPM serve you better'.  I am summarizing the responses I got below, in hopes that it helps guide you in your quest.  The names have been excluded to protect the identities, but I think there is some very valuable info in here.  Particularly the final point - which I will follow up on with the respondent.
Anyway, you didn't ask for it, but here it is.
    > 1. Have you attended any webcasts related to SAP lately?
No. Not lately, and not ever. (I suppose I am old-fashioned...)
    > 2. Are there any topics related to Workflow and BPM that you think are
    > important for the 'community'?
Integrating workflows and guided procedures - e.g. enhancing existing workflows to use browser interfaces.
    > 3. Looking ahead a year, what do you see as challenges in this area?
Processes that can be executed either in R/3 or in browsers, with information about the process progress etc, as in Guided Procedures. This will probably be the developers nightmare for the next few years.
    1. Have you attended any webcasts related to SAP lately?
-yes I did - quite a few, but mostly on web related stuff and XI.
    2. Are there any topics related to Workflow and BPM that you think are important for the 'community'?
    - personally for me, I still find the guided procedure in Portals not so user friendly and limited. I think more education and influence around GP will be great. I think the community will also appreciate it.
    3. Looking ahead a year, what do you see as challenges in this area?
    - GP and UWL. I think the concept of "IT doing the first time and the business managing their rules" would be challenging. I have not yet seen this happen, especially on the logistics side. There is a session this year on the same topic at TechEd and I look forward to this session. Hopefully it will help us get some insight.
Right now I am struggling with even getting Workflow off the ground and getting the business to understand what Workflow is and trying to have them budget for it. Workflow is still new to the functional group and even getting them to consider Workflow verse alternatives is somewhat of a challenge. I really have had a great consultant that has taken me under his wing and taken the time to teach me. I think we would be a great story for a presentation.
My challenges for the next year, is how to get over the hump of selling workflow to the business and actually getting projects planned out. I don't know if anyone has an anwer to that one. My other challege is how to handle transfer of knowledge and maintaining workflow that has been built by consultants.
    1)  I have not attended many SAP webcasts (just one on Solution Manager in the past few months)  I'm planning on attending one this comming Monday on BPM.
    2) I think understanding UWL / SBWP differences, advantages, limitations on one vs the other, would be an important topic.   Also more information on Extended Notiications
    3) Challenges: Upgrades and impact on WF,  Unicode and WF and having more WF ABAP OO objects delivered by SAP, other than the "Absence Notification" sample.
    1.       I havenu2019t personally attended but as a company we give a webinar once a week and weu2019ve had some great attendance
    2.       Technically I think weu2019re OK. We see the need to tell C-level execs where workflow / BPM can help them in businessu2026.
_3.       Workflow is becoming more and more obscure in the SAP landscapeu2026

  • Integrating SAP BPM and existing workflows, does an interface exist?

    Hallo all
I have to evaluate how to build a set of BPM Workflows which shold incorporate "exits" into existing workflows (basically combining BPM and Business Workflows).  Do you know if there is a referenc on how such a thing could be acomplished or have some advices for a smart way of organising the interface between the two workflow engines?

  • Statements to validate about BPM and WorkFlow

Hi is it possible for experts here to validate,
    1. SAP Business Workflow is primarily used to develop workflow mechanisms for SAP based systems
    2. Components of a Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) like the compensation handlers, exception handlers are not available out of the box in SAP Business Workflow and SAP XI BPM
    Would appreciate a quick response.
    Cheers

    Hi NS,
I do not know much on BPEL,
but I had read a blog by Alan.

  • BPM and webdynpro for ABAP

    Dear All,
I am new to BPM and wanted to understand that is there any linking in Web dynpro for abap and BPM or WD for JAVA can only be used in BPM. Also can somebody help me with the stztart document which tells about transaction and SAP netweaver step by step process for creating SAP BPM application. The BPM workflow, how it is connected to SAP at backend.
    Thanks in Advance!

    Hi Naveen,
Netweaver BPM is shipped as part of Netweaver Composition Environment starting version 7.1 EHP1 and now CE 7.2 is also out. It wont be possible to run on ABAP stack. Also if you want to start learning then you may start with the following links:

  • Collect Operation using BPM and

    Hi Experts,
I have a scenario where Proxy to file communication happens.
1.i have to collect all the data in XI that has sent from proxy ( Sender System ) via BPM and send to file system only after every 15 mins.
    2. For the same scenarion without using BPM.
i have to append ( in the file construction Mode ) the data in the file for 15 mins only.ould you
Kindly help me with these two questions with step by step procedure. Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Ruban.S

    Hi,
In ESR you could go to SAP BASIS -> SAP BASIS 7.xx -> Integration Processes -> BpmPatternCollectTime. It contains the pattern/steps that you would need.
Not sure if there is a good way of doing this without bpm.

  • RFC to BPM and backward. error SYNCHONOUS_MESSAGE

    Hi everybody!
    Help me pls!
I am learning BPM and want to make easy synchronous example.
RFC sends the request to BPM and recieves the response.
    My RFC is named Z_TEST_CALL_WEBSERVICE.
    I have created:
    in Design
    mi_rfc_request - abstract asynch interface (message = Z_TEST_CALL_WEBSERVICE)
    mi_rfc_response - abstract asynch interface (message = Z_TEST_CALL_WEBSERVICE.Response)
    mi_string_abstract - abstract synch interface (output message = Z_TEST_CALL_WEBSERVICE, input message = Z_TEST_CALL_WEBSERVICE.Response)
Test002_MyScenario_001 - integration process, that have:
    Receive0 - Receive step (name = Receive0, message = rfc_request, mode = Opens S/A Bridge, asynch interface = mi_string_abstract)
    Send0 - Send step (name = send0, mode = Closes S/A Bridge, message = rfc_response, Opened by = Receive0)
    rfc_request - comtainer element (category = abstract interface, type = mi_rfc_request)
    rfc_response - comtainer element (category = abstract interface, type = mi_rfc_response)
    in Configuration
have imported my Inegration Process and have named him "mybpm"
    receiver determination (Z_TEST_CALL_WEBSERVICE -> mybpm)
    interface determination (Z_TEST_CALL_WEBSERVICE -> mybpm, inbound interface = mt_string_abstract)
    sender agreement (defined Communication Channel)
When i call my RFC from R/3
    CALL FUNCTION 'Z_TEST_CALL_WEBSERVICE'

The issue has been resolved. The integration process needed to be activated in sxi_cache. Once it was activated, the interface ran successfully.

When i start the process, i get TimeOut. Object rfs_response in Send0 don't had instance.
    I added transform (rfc_request -> rfc_response) and get 'success'.

  • CAF GP - SAP XI BPM

    Hello *,
I'm new to CAF and I'd like to implement a pricing process tool within this framework.
The process has just the following process steps / services (data flow in brackets):
    - Taking new defined products and data from SAP PLM (SAP PLM <-> SAP XI <-> Application Service wraps Web Service of XI)
    - Show a UI to define prices for the new products
    - Saving new defined prices to SAP SD (Application Service wraps Web Service of XI <-> XI <-> SAP SD)
Up to know XI is just part of the process because of monitoring aspects and CAF GP for modeling the process.
But as I read about BPM in SAP XI I'm not sure if CAF GP is the right and only choice for process modeling.
    So my questions are:
    1. When do I have to use CAF GP and when the BPM component of SAP XI?
    2. Can I use both in collaboration? Or do I even have to?
    3. What are the differences (advantages/disadvantages) of CAF GP / SAP XI BPM?
Could anyone give me some advice?
    Thanks in advance...
    Regards,
    Joschi

    Hi Divya,
First of all I can't really accept the statement <b>"Modeling in GP"</b>. Guided Procedure is NOT a tool for modeling to be used by a BPX according to my opinion. Developing a process in GP requires more technical knowledge than functional/business knowledge. The example of modeling environment/tool is ARIS/Websphere Business Modeler , etc - where the BPX can "model" a business process purely based on business knowledge without having any so-called technical knowledge. And in turn this model can be converted into the technical artifacts to be modified or developed by the technical experts. The example of this kind of business modeling to implementation is ARIS modeling -> XI ccBPM.  But in GP there is no such tool as of now for modeling. What we do in the GP design time is only development.
Now coming to your question - you can use BPM engine as your GP runtime engine. But that still doesn't solve our first issue. Modeling of GP process is still missing. And one more interesting observation is if you go through the <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/706005a3-3bd6-2910-91ae-a2016239bdcf">Netweaver PI 7.1 presentation</a> you can find there are lot of similarities between PI 7.1 and existing CAF Guided Procedure. Previously XI-BPM was usually used for non-interactive processes (with background message exchange) and Guided Procedure used for more interactive processes (with UI). But in PI 7.1 a new human task action has been added in ccBPM based on BPEL 2.0 specification. That means now XI-BPM can also support interactive processes as well. So doesn't this sound a kind of parallel technology to CAF GP? My question is if these two are getting really parallel one has to die out and which's that one? And if CAF-GP going to stay what's the modeling environment for the same?
    Thanks,
    Dipankar

  • BPM and IDOCs

I have an scenario where I have to create sequentially several IDOCs.  This can be created through BPM but my concern is each IDOC has to get processed before the next IDOC is created, is there a way I can check to see if the IDOC was processed.  I was thinking of calling a BAPI to check if the IDOC was processed.  Is there any other way to handle the above, if so would appreciate your input.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
    Sunil Achyut

the standard way to check if an IDoc has been processed is to use the ALEAUD IDoc which serves like an acknowlegment for IDocs. XI will automatically translate the differenet IDoc status values into the corresponding acknowledgment status, so you can use a send step with application ack in the BPM and the BPM will only continue processing when an ALEAUD with a status corresponding to permanent positiv application ack has been received.
Here is some information on the usage of ALEAUD:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/0b/2a6550507d11d18ee90000e8366fc2/content.htm
and here is a how to document for acknowledgments with IDocs using ALEAUD: https://websmp102.sap-ag.de/~sapdownload/011000358700003477212005E/HowTo_IDOC_Ack_20040817RR.pdf

  • BPM and Workflow for SRM 7

    Hi
Does anyone know if BPM (Business Process Management) supports SRM and specifically SRM 7.0?
Is it possible to create the workflow in BPM and then transfer it to SRM 7? Will that work flow be a "developed" workflow from SRM point of view?
    Sincerely
    Anders

    Hi,
In that case, I would use BPM for MDM and SRM workflow for SRM document approval.

  • BPM and GP

    Hi,
I have some few doubts in BPM and GP
Please can you share any document which tells the differences between BPM and GP?
I know GP advance is BPM,,...But what all the added functionlity is there in BPM?
When we go for BPM?and when we go for GP?
    Chandu

    Hi Chandu,
Some of the differences b/w BPM and Guided Procedures ,
    BPM :
    i) To  build service-based processes that are primarily human focused
ii) It enables you to build a process that crosses application boundaries
iii) Included BRM,which enables u to create rules
iv) To deploy a process, U should know webdynpro
    Guided Procedures :
    i) This tool enables you to easily and quickly build processes that span multiple systems, including both SAP and non-SAP systems.
ii) The design time is done via a web browser.
iii) You can easily build processes without writing any code.
iv) Guided Procedures is available with SAP NetWeaver 7.0 and SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment
    Hope this helps..

    Divya

  • Use of Web Dynpro ABAP as UI in SAP NetWeaver BPM?

    Hello,
Have anybody heard of any plans by SAP to support SAP Web Dynpro ABAP as another option for the UI in SAP NeWeaver BPM?
As SAP now delivers some Web Dynpro ABAP UI:s as part of EHP:s etc it would be good to be able to reuse these in SAP NetWeaver BPM.
    All input is welcome.
Thanks for your help and support,
    /Markus

i heard it can be expected in 7.3.
