SAP OSS Connection...

Q 1) Can someone tell me the link between following OSS Connection components:
1) SAP Router on customer Side
2) SAP R/3 Connection SAPOSS
3) SAP Router on SAP Side.
Q 2) Do I install SAP Router on the customer side on the same server on which R/3 instance is installed ?
Thanks.
Regards,
Rajesh

Hi Rajesh,
Maybe this simple map can help you.
Cust SAP Server -- SAP router (SNC) -Internet- SAP SAProuter (SNC) -- SAP
SAP use SNC (Secure Network Communication) to support their customer. You have to set your SAProuter to be SNC-ready before SAP can help you if you have serious problem on your SAP server.
I suggest not installing SAP router on the same server. Install SAP router on your site using different box. You can place SAP router (with SNC configuration) on DMZ of your internal network.
Hope this can help you.

    Hi hashit,
1 st Restart the Solman Server and go to command prompt. Then select the SAPROUTER drive ( D: > cd saprouter )
Currently, your SNC Saprouter process is not up and running, please stopyour saprouter process with command ' saprouter -s ' and restart it using the following with correct User.
    D:saprouter> saprouter -r -V2 -K "p:CN=<hostname>, OU=<Number>, OU=SAProuter, O=SAP, C=DE"
Please note that to ensure you Saprouter process is running, you must not close the command prompt screen after you started the above. Once you closed the screen, your saprouter process is stopped and your connection to SAP is dropped.
Please try it and Let me know

    Hi Gurus,
    I am using Solman 3.2 on Oracle/Win 2003 server.
While doing Test connection for SAP-OSS Connection error "<b>LB: Unexpected error in LG Layer</b>" is coming.
<b>Please guide me through configuration steps .</b>
I am using following settings which is appearing by default:
    Connection type  3

    Hello Gaurav,
    - in transaction SM59, delete the RFC destinations SAPOSS - in transaction OSS1 -> parameter -> technical settings, save the
actual configuration.  After that, in SM59, test again the connection
Did you get this connection SAPOSS working before or this is the first try?
    Check note 35010.
    Hope this helps,

My question: can this error be related with SAP side or is it strictly our company's networking issue? I've contacted our IT office already; however, they didn't notice anything suspicious.
Also, where can I find a table with error return codes listed? To decipher what -104 in this case means?

Is SAP Router is installed and configured. Is it registered under the customer ID in SMP. Once you register in SMP you need to import in the SAP Router.
If SAP Router is already configured, have set up a connection in OSS1 t code.
if not check the link for the Router installation https://websmp104.sap-ag.de/SAPROUTER

Please let me know how to resolve this issue and also provide me the list of ports to be opened to connect to the SR.

SAP router will use port no 3299 tcp port connet to SAP. Firewalls block this port if not set to allow.
If your firewall is having ip masquarading set local SAP router to represent to SAP check weather the setting are correct?

    Hi,
    1. Please change the SAP Router server host name to another SAP router name (eg: 2 to 3)in your route table & SM59 and then try. (search SAP notes for more SAp router Ip and host name)
    2. Check your SAP toute tab SNC certificate expiry, if Yes then request new certificates for SNC with SAP support.

  • Is there a transaction in SolMan to verify OSS Connectivity Status?

Currently, the only way to know whether my SAP OSS connection is still open is by navigation to the Service Marketplace to verify the status of the connection.
Is there a equivalent transaction in Solution Manager that could help validate this?  (In the old day, we use to this via tcode OSS1).
Note that this is NOT a connectivity issue; but rather problem with regards to whether the connection is open.

Service Connection provides the required function:

  • How do you log SAP vendor activity performed during an OSS Connection?

    Hello Everyone,
What is the best and cost effective way to log SAP vendor activity while they are connected to perform OSS related work?
The environment under review provides an OSS SAP support ID and password to the vendor to facilitate the authentication, however, no security audit logging is performed. The SAP team is raising performance issues as the reason why the logging is not turned on.
Is there a way to restrict the security logging only to the OSS support ID and also determine the activity performed during the session? Basically, how can the internal team know that an unauthorized activity was performed during the connection and / or someone made several failed attempts to authenticate through the OSS connection?
    Thank you.

It also records the GUI event and is regardless of the success of starting the activity, let alone completing it.
In my books it is "fluffy" security which is inherently flawed for the purpose you are using it for. The main reason for the records is response times.
It only works because authorization concepts are sometimes inherently flawed in their implementation as well.... so people believe what they see...
But for forensics it is usefull IF you are fast enough...
    Cheers,
    Julius

  • Is SAP-OSS RFC Configuration required for Technical Monitoring ?

    Hi Experts,
I have not configured the SAP-OSS rfc connection. Is it required for setting up the technical monitoring(Tcode : SOLMAN_SETUP).
If Yes can you please help me in solving the above problem. Our aim is to configure  technical monitoring for  system and self-monitoring.

    Hello,
I am assuming you are speaking about 100 concurrent users and not the entire company userbase.
Core i5 (although is dual core underneath) is generally meant for desktops, having said this, please note that its difficult to arrive at any recommendation based on simply userbase. You need to have more data with you with respect to amount of transactions, concurrent users, peak period, load during peak period etc.
You need to use SAP's quicksizer to calculate the amount of SAPS for your production servers, SAPS is the unit used to calibrate your hardware for running SAP Applications.
If you provide your SAPS value to hardware vendor, they will advise what CPU rating and how many CPUs you need. They will infact tell you the entire configuration that you need.
you can also buy the following book:

  • Standred Roles and profiles for OSS Connection User

    Dears,
We open OSS connections several times for SAP support in which we also provide login credentials to SAP to login in our system.
Is there any standred roles or profile for this user in QAS and PRD that we can give to maintain our servers confidentiality.
    Please suggest.
    Shivam

Not really. A note related to your question popped up in a previous discussion:Re: Exclude T-code from SAP all
    > If you take a look at [SAP Note 1118396 - Roles for support activities|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1118396] you will see this explained nicely...

    Hi Thavaheer,
Mostly, this error cam comes if corresponding ip address of Prod hostname, vip is not in the saprouttab for outgoing connections. Please make sure the hosts ips of all application servers are maintained in the router table.
In SM59, Open the properties of SDCC_OSS RFC, special options tab -> Activate RFC trace and perform the connection test.
Collect the dev_rd log from work directory and paste the details here.
Also, from Prod host : telnet <saprouter_server> 3299
    Regards,
    Ankit
