SAP PI Logging functionality

Hello All,
We want to implement Logging functionalty in our PI. We want to write the logs on PI file system. For example the log like when file enters the PI server we write a log " Message entered the PI"...another is when the map successful run " map completed".....So we want to do this kind of Logging.
Also we want to know:
What API can we use for Logging in PI?
Can we use log4J functionality?
Appender functionality for logs
Max file size.

SAP 7.1 Ehp1 came up with this option but i am not tried of this how exactly we can utilise this
By the way what is your earlier EAI tool ..
I tried this and not able to find out how we can log for application data.. but no need to worry sap had extensive logging feature.
May be you have to come up with Dynpro application of NetWeaver for this..

Custom error message in SAP application log

Is there a way to add a custom error message to the SAP application log without passing the message variables MSGV1, MSGV2, MSGV3, MSGV4 and the Message class and number.
We want to pass a custom message from the BAPIRET2-MESSAGE without giving it a Message class and number. The reason for this is that we are using class based exceptions instead of the traditional message class with errors. When we catch the class based exception, we take the error text of the exception and put in in the BAPIRET2-message and set the BAPIRET2-TYPE as 'E'. Now we want to add this to the SAP application log.
The call to 'BAL_LOG_MSG_ADD' takes a structure BAL_S_MSG which is just like BAPIRET2. However this function builds the entry to the application log use the message variables MSGV1, MSGV2, MSGV3, MSGV4. There is no provision to pass in the BAPIRET2 message.
Add message to application log
CALL FUNCTION 'BAL_LOG_MSG_ADD'
 EXPORTING
 i_log_handle = app_log_handle

Did you see BAL_LOG_EXCEPTION_ADD?
This FM is represented by the structure BAL_S_EXC. This can have various versions as described below:
Data of BAL_S_EXC Structure / Use
EXCEPTION / Exception class from which an exception text
 is added to the log. This field must be filled.
MSGTY / Message type (MSGTY) of a T100 message.
 This field must also be filled for exceptions.
PROBCLASS,
DETLEVEL,
ALSORT, TIME_STMP / Message or exception attributes, such as
 problem class (PROBCLASS, for
 example, "very important"), level of detail
 (DETLEVEL, from 1 to 9), sort criterion
 (ALSORT, unrestricted) and timestamp
 (TIME_STMP). These fields can be displayed
 in the log (except TIME_STMP).
MSG_COUNT / This attribute is not used for exceptions.

SAP System Log on issue using Crystal Reports:

Hi All,
I have installed Crystal reports, Business Explorer and Business Objects XI Integration. But when I tried to create a new report using SAP Table, Cluster or Functional, I couldn't able to select SAP System since it shows SAP System Log on selection was blank.
Note: I have undergone the following trials:
         1) All the trials are done after connecting to the Internal Vpn.
         2) Re-installed the Crystal reports, Business Explorer and Business Objects XI. But result was the same.
         3) Compared all the setting parameters with another System which works fine.
         4) Only difference seems to be that I am using Win Vista and other one is Win XP OS.
         5) Tried in the net for Win Vista specific patches or software to run the crystal report but couldn't helped.
Did any one come across similar experience or is there any idea why it could be? Thank you in advance.

Thank you very much for your reply. I was wondering from where we could download XI R2 ( 11.5 ) SP 2. I have tried downloading Software Forces .rpt Inspector 3 Professional suite (for CR XI R2) . But this doesn't seems to be the right one. Also I have cheked in sdn Crysal Report 2008 download (https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/bobj_download/main.htm ). But no luck. SAP Application Log

Hi All,
The requirment is to create a Standard SAP Application Log using a Function module 'BAL_LOG_CREATE' and each successfull work order update should create a message in the log using FM 'BAL_LOG_MSG_ADD'. Each failed work order update should result in a exception being added to the log using BAL_LOG_EXCEPTIOn_ADD'.
please guide me on how these FM's should be used for creating the Standard SAP Application log.

SAP message Log

Does SAP maintain log of all the messages displayed on screen using MESSAGE statement?
We are investigating a problem and want to see the messages displayed by SAP during the time when problem occured.

We have custom development for picking and confirmation. Last week we found that in some deliveries there is difference in delivered quantity and packed quantity.
Custom development is calling sap-standard FMs. Problem occurs randomly, roughly 10 deliveries in a week has this problem.
We are still trying to investigate the reason that is causing the problem.
Custom program does display the message to user if FM raise any message. We asked user of they are getting any message while picking, and if they are ignoring it.
They just confirmed that they are getting message 'Packing Not Possible Since there is no Quantity to be Packed' and they did ignored this.

NoClassDefFoundError: com/sap/sql/log/OpenSQLException

I have developed a Java project. It consists of 2 SQLJ files and then a Java class. When I try to execute the Java program, I get a Java error:

Hi,
the problem one year ago was that the SQLException class was not available through remote access. I don't know if that might have been changed meanwhile in the latest release.
I implemented a simple work around: I caught every SQL-exception in the method where it was thrown, wrapped the exception message and any nested exception in a self written exception and threw this new exception. That worked fine.

Par file deployment from nwds - sap-plugin.log error

i'm trying to deploy par file
all my setting are right, but i get error that i see in sap-plugin.log file

is my "nwds-> preference-? workbench-> proxy " settings should be like the settings in the browser?

Com.sap.sql.log.OpenSQLException during EntityManager Call

I deployed an EJB3 session bean on the NW 7.1.
The aim is to use JPA with this bean.
I configured the "persistence.XML" for the bean project and packed it into the jar File and a "data-source-aliases.xml" which is included in the ear file. The packaging of the ear-file is done with the developerStudio and deployed on the NW 7.1
Then I created a dataSource project which contains the "data-sources.xml" and deployed this too.

I'm developing a Portal Component over NW EP 2004s (7.0) which access to SQL Server database. I have created three tables on the system db (EPD). Connection is Ok, over datasource object, but i can't make a SELECT operation to my new tables.
Hovewer, making a SELECT operation over older system tables is OK.
I have adjusted permissions on my new tables, similar to the older tables. The table's owner is the same too.

Missing package com.sap.tc.logging, where to download it?

Hi all,
I require this package in order to run my program based on webdynpro and Bw. specialing its looking for com.sap.tc.logging.location . The detailed exception is laready posted by me. from where can i download and install this package.
In the eclipse plugins the package is only present with docs , but does'nt have classes in them.

Disable iphone logging function

My IPhone currently having wifi grayed out problem, and along side with it, the logging function is driving me crazy. Because IPhone attemp to active wifi chip every second. It mean that every second, log will be written because of fail on ative wifi chip and it consume battery as well as storage. For a week it grow over 3GB. So is there anyway that I can disable this logging function on IPhone and/or stop IPhone from attemp to active wifi chip?

You can try turning WI-FI off all together by going to Settings>Wifi>swipe off. If the problem persists call Apple call 800-275-2273. Good Luck!!!

Log Function behaving diffently in SQL vs Pl/SQL

This equation works OK in SQL but its implementation in PL/SQL throws an error:
SELECT CAST(LOG(2,32) as FLOAT) FROM DUAL;
Returns: 5
vs

x := CAST(LOG(2,32) as FLOAT) ;
PLS-00382: expression is of wrong type
Incidentally I ran into a situation where LOG(2,32) return 5 in SQL but returns 4 where formatted TRUNC(LOG(2,32),0)
