Is it good idea to make a career transition to SAP at the age of 42 in USA?
It is never too late to start over or make a transition in your career. I know somebody who at 40 transitioned from a manufacturing area to become a BASIS consultant.
I am at a senior level of my career. Will I be considered an entry level if I start SAP career or will my prior experience be given some credit?
With your kind of experience and background, you will fit the bill of a Project Manager. Good knowledge in SAP PS will just be a "good-to-have" item on your resume.
My goal is to continue consulting for a few more years and then take a permanent (non- consulting) career. I want to stop travelling on the job. I know a few SAP professionals and they all have a travelling job. Are there good positions in SAP (Manager or director level) that do not involve a lot of travel?
Yes most SAP Consultants travel a lot. But it depends on the kind of organization you work for. A purely consulting company will demand frequent travelling. But if you work for a product company or if your company is the "client" then the travel is minimal.
Other than SAP-PS, what other functional areas of SAP will be worth looking into?
As I said earlier, you do not have to get your hands dirty with the various modules in SAP. For your experience you can oversee the work done by others. But yes, always better to have a good command in the module. PS module is one of the most robust and "complete" modules in SAP. It is probably the only module that is in some way or the other connected to all the core modules in SAP - MM, SD, FI, WM.... you name it.
So to sum up, if you have a great command over PS, then you pretty much know a thing or two (considering the oceanic size) in SAP.

I don't have IT education background, can I start SAP as career

    Hi Vivek,
    Of course!!
SAP provides a wide range of opportunities for people with different skillset. You have to know that it is not just an IT/software company. Rather SAP provides Business solution software to other companies "SAP Helps Companies Run Better". So SAP field also requires people other than just IT professionals.

getting job is very easy when you have certification
JAVA is must for SAP XI...
In your case if u go for XI that would be better decision
    <b>JAVA in xi</b>
A very important place where you will use JAVA in XI is while doing your Mapping.  There will be cases when JAVA MAPPING is the best solution to go for. There are 2 types of Parsers available for JAVA Mapping. DOM Parser and SAX parser. Just got through the following links to  understand more on Java Mapping and the APIs available.http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/javax/xml/parsers/package-summary.html http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/org/w3c/dom/Document.html http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/org/w3c/dom/package-frame.html /people/prasad.ulagappan2/blog/2005/06/29/java-mapping-part-i

  • SAP ISU Career Ladder

    Hi Seniors/ Experts
I am currently working as a resource in SAP ISU in a Production Support project for a Utility company in UK in Device Management Module for Capgemini.
Let me start from the beggining.
I  Got tagged into SAP ISU Project, trained on all modules of ISU  ( very tiring training   9.30am to 6pm ).
Initially ,I just got a small idea of what SAP ISU is ..then I was tagged to the support project and start working in Device Management Team from Nov 2012.
What  we do in the Project ? We receive Tickets ( Incidents ) in a tool called Service-now where we have to analyse the issue in SAP system and resolve it according to technical and functional skills which one have .Initially ,I was very much confused of Tcodes and how to resolve these tickets . i worked with my senior. He guided me a lot in them. Mostly we face Standard ISU Errors Data issues while trying to Bill the Account ,So we analyse them and solve them. Sometimes we also get device timeslice errors. Thus, we mostly use Standard Fucntion modules to enter reads and bill the account .So I have got a zist on Satndard Tables & Fm's related to SAP ISU Dm module. Also, I have little idea on move-in move-out tables.
We have been resolving the same issues since 1.5 yrs and there is nothing much to learn in
Its just 1.5 yrs I am in this project .So , my Total Exp = 2.5 yrs.
    My Question :
Please explain me how shall I grow in SAP ISU market as Device Managment Consultant.
    Explain me All :
How shall I grow as a technical consultant in SAP ISU , as a Fucntional consultant or as a Techno-fucntional ?
I have heard that SAP ISU is a Techno-fucntional module, Is it true ? does every SAP ISU resource must know technical as well as functional knowledge ?
If not , How to grow career only as SAP ISU Functional ?
According to my analysis , I am both technical and fucntional ...OR none of them Feels as if I know nothing. Please guide me on what to pursue in SAP ISU Device maangement as I can see my seniors are both technical and functional, I always get scarred of them When I compare myself to them
In Short , Please explain what is the Career Ladder in SAP ISU Device management .
Enough !! I have written so much

    Hi Chiranjib ,
You are right .SAP IS-U module is a techno-functional module and it is required to everybody to learn both technical as well as functional .In support project ,You can learn the full functionality and can check end to end solution for that process .Try to know all the T code and tables  for  IS-U module .ISU master data is very important .UK industry is very complex compare to other country.
    Thanks ,
    Pankaj

  • How to improve my chances in SAP SD career prospects?

    Hi Friends,
I wish to know,as a newbie to SAP world, how to make a successful career in SAP SD?
Have done a lot of research prior to getting certified but yet to strike the right chord in SAP SD, as Associate Consultant. Even though am ready to start as in end--user or super end-user in Associate role. But, still waiting for my chances to click.
In brief, have done MBA - International Business & Marketing and have 1 year experience in sales and distribution. Due to sudden change in Indian economy was laid-off, so getting a job was like a miracle lately to happen. Thus after much contemplation took up SAP e-learning, from SAP Academy, course in SAP SD(SCM) and successfully cleared in last Feb '10. But have been striving hard to get an interview call. Hence, would love to hear from you about the ideas which I might have missed or approach for the whole scenario. Hoping for a positive reply.
    Thanking you,

  • SAP HR Career - how to enhance

    Hi SAP HR folks
I would like to know your thoughts on how an SAP HR Consultant should be enhancing (or shifting) his/her role.
Are you taking interest in the following or rather, do you find the following relevant to the profile of a SAP HR Consultant?
■mySAP CRM Resource Planning Tool u2014 Field Service and Dispatch
    ■mySAP CRM Interaction Center Scheduling
■Collaboration Projects for mySAP Product Lifecycle Management
■Professional Services with mySAP CRM: Project Resource Planning
■SAP xApp Resource and Program Management
I am asking this in the following context. Most job adverts (especially from consulting companies) are listing almost all modules except HR. Does this mean HR folks must enhance their profile to include concepts & modules which have a wider demand?
    Hope the question is clear.

I wonder if you could consider re-starting your career through contributing a little on SCN. I mean: I would like to see a "new balance" between your posts and points. Why don´t you pay something back? Would be just great...

  • SAP SD Career for Sales and Marketing Professional in Banking & Insurance Industry

    Dear Experts,
I have 8+ years experience in Marketing,Sales and Customer Services in banking and financial service industry. I enquired about SAP courses in authorised SAP centres and they suggested me to go with SAP SD module. I am not sure whether SAP SD will suits to me as it deals with hard core products, but my sales and marketing experience in based on Concept selling. As a marketing guy i have good understanding and knowledge of sales and product life cycle. I have done MCA in 2004, but all experience is into BFSI domain. Now i want to shift into IT. Whether i can take up SAP SD and make a career in it.?.Seeking proper guidance from experts.
    Cheers
    Ramesh

    Hi Ramesh,
You can try to IS-Insurance to suit your domain experience.  However, if you look at major SAP Implemented insurance companies adopted SAP ERP and custom according to their need.  So, getting a breakthrough in this IS solution would be very hard.
Again, if I come back to your question on BFSI point domain experience.  I have my friend who worked in Top 5 BFSI company in India who transitioned his career in SAP SD (studied in SAP Authorized institute and got a job through campus in CMM Level 5 company) because he has BE + MBA.  This story was happened 8 years back.  But I don't know the current trend in India.
SAP SD is best and it will suit as I saw already a guy went through the same path.  Also, check SAP CRM Sales or Service.
You can wait for other members comments who may be transitioned from BFSI sector to SAP to give  some ideas.
    Best of luck.

  • SAP functional Career suggestion

    Dear Gurus,
Pls suggest me on the question related to my career. I have been working on SAP BIBO for 5 yrs as a Technical Consultant. I am interested to move into Functional areas where I will get the benefits of my current skills. Please suggest me which functional module I need to choose so that I will benifitted most keeping my current SAP BIBO skills along with.
    Thanks
    Jayant

Since you state you have some (5 yrs is not "some, it`s cool actually) experience with BI/ BO, you should know something about the data you were processing. So if you were processing HR data, then it makes sense to go for HR. Same with any other module. I have no idea what was your job, who is your employer or is your customer, what data sources you have used so far. Based on that information your information should be almost clear.

  • SAP FICO Career

    Hi All
I was thinking of making a career in SAP FICO, please can you suggest if this is the correct decision and how/ what needs to be done for that?
I am currently working as a accounts staff for a financial services company, I have a total of 5 years of experience working as an accountant (of which I was working as a SAP FICO end user for 3.5 years wiith my previous employer....around 2years back) and I am a part qualified accountant along with a graduation in commerce.
Thanks in advance for your valuable suggestions.
    Kind Regards
    AR SHAH

    Hi,
Yes you can go for it.
For that i will suggest that you take training from SAP authorized education training partner and get SAP FI certificed. This will help you to nurture your knowledge and will make you an SAP Certified Consultant. Being a certified consultant will give u an edge over other FI consultants.
Being hands on .. and having a domain exp .. will def .. make the certification test easy for you.
    All d Very Best !!!
