SAP R/3 4.6c on Windows 2000 r3setup.bat problem

Hi SAP Gurus,
I'm gonna install a 4.6c on Windows 2000 SP4.
I've got a problem with r3setup.bat:
When I try to execute the setup.bat theres the error:
"extracting sap mmc components failed"
I extract the mmc.sar manually with sapcar.exe and copy the files everywherer...but it doesnt work.
I looked up in the sap.help or the web in generall and found no solutions-
So I hope to find an answer here
Tim

I just have NTCLUSCD.log next to the R3setup.log
There stands:

• ODBC problems with Oracle 8.1.5 on Windows 2000

Hi,
I have got a problem when i configure ODBC on Windows 2000.
When I test the driver with ODBC test driver, the programs doesn't respond when i use Oracle ODBC Driver first but responds when I use Microsoft Driver For Oracle first and then Oracle ODBC Driver.
Then I have a system 5 error when I use ODBC with ASP.
Is it Oracle 8.1.5 which is not compatible with Windows 2000 or a problem in Windows 2000 configuration ?
Best regards
Ronan

I think I was having the same problem; programs attempting to connect w/ODBC (including ODBCTest) would hang. After downloading and installing a newer ODBC driver from oracle (for me 8.1.5.5 worked), I was able to connect. Hope this helps!

• Acrobat 3D and Windows 2000

Everyone that has the Windows 2000 operating system has problems with the Acrobat 3D models. The models were created using Windows XP and were tested using Windows XP. I am assuming that Acrobat 3D and Windows 2000 are incompatible. Adobe states Windows 2000 compatibility. Does anyone know why users with Windows 2000 are having problems with my models?
Thanks

Yes, I have checked the version and they have Reader 7.0.8. I also checked that they have the latest version of DirectX. Of course there are a number of remote Windows2000 users, so I haven't the ability to check the service pack installations, graphics drivers, and so on. Many of these users are schedule to be upgraded to new laptops (with Windows XP installed).
I also have the most recent version of Acrobat 3D and have installed all the updates.
It seems the problems are different among different users, but everyone seems to have some type of problem when using Acrobat 3D and Win2000.

• Setting Classpath on Windows 2000 box

I have written a java application that is deployed to a Windows 2000 box. This application requires that a number of .jar files be included in the classpath, but it appears Windows 2000 imposes a maximum character length on the classpath variable because when I try to include all my .jar files in the classpath variable, the string is getting cut-off after a set number of characters. For example, I would like my classpath set to c:\classes\jar1.jar;c:\classes\jar2.jar;c:\classes\jar3.jar, but Windows 2000 only recognizes c:\classes\jar1.jar;c:\classes\jar2.jar;c:\cl. This causes my application to take java.lang.NoClassDefFoundExceptions since all the .jar files do not get included in the classpath.
Does anybody know of a way around this issue? I would really like to avoid extracting the contents of my .jar files to a directory structure. Thanks for your help.

I forget what the limits in Windows are, but they're a lot bigger than the size you need. I just set my classpath to that string in Windows 2000 with no problem. I believe Windows has a limit on the total size of the environment: maybe you have a whole lot of other environment variables set that you could dump. More likely, the problem has nothing to do with a Windows size limit, and you're getting cut off somewhere else.

• Can't intsall oracle products on Windows 2000

The Oracle Universal Installer didn't start (no any error message returns) when I run setup.exe to install the Oracle8i Enterprise Server on the Windows 2000, the same problem happened with the Oracle9i Application Server too. My machine is Dell Dimension 8100 (P4, 128 MB Memory, 80 GB Disk), which meets the system requirement by Oracle. Anyone can help me identify what's problem ?
Thank you in advance

It works! As you mentioned the symcjit.dll causes the problem. Thank you very much for help.
By the way I just got email from Oracle, which says the issue occurs on all P4 machines when installing Oracle products by Oracle Universal Installer under Windows 2000. There is no fix until now. That's weird, isn't it? All PC/Server will go to P4 sooner, doesn't Oracle care it ?
Thank you again

-- Copy all the files to c:\temp\oracle
-- Search for symcjit.dll in c:\temp\oracle
-- Rename/remove the file symcjit.dll
-- Click on setup.exe/ autorun.exe to install.

• SAP ERP 2005 ECC 6.0 with Windows 2000 Application Server

Hi,
We are currently running SAP 4.6C in iSeries model 570 OS V5R3.
I would like to know after upgrade from 4.6C to ERP 2005 ECC 6.0 if we will gain any performance improvement by adding Windows 2000 Application Servers in our environment.  Second Question - how much load will be taking away from the iSeries if adding one application server (Memory and CPU).
Ramon

Hi Ramon,
what hardware do you use at the moment ?
820, 870, 5xx ?
How any CPUs ?
How much memory ?
You are on 4.6C ASCII right now ?
In your case, I don't see, that Win 2003 servers help in performance, I would guess, that the CPU after the upgrade is about 60% which is still ok - then using 3-tier - especially in R3 environments is mostly not good for the performance because of the DB time increasement.
The memory you will need is pretty the same for the iSeries.

Currently, we are in the oracle software installation stage and during the installation there is an error which states the following message: Error in writing to file C:\Program Files\Oracle\bin\regsvr32.exe. • Cannot install Netweaver CE on Windows 2000 OS - SAP note says I can!!!!!!

Hi ,
I cannot install Netweaver CE on Windows 2000 OS, but SAP note says I can... Can anyone reply back if there is any workaround?
Thanks
Som

Hi Som,
Netweaver CE is supported by following Windows series:
Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2) or Windows 2003 Server (Service Pack 1)
The version has also been tested successfully with Windows 2000 (SP3) and Windows XP (SP1), but is certified only for the two Windows versions above (Note: If you use a Windows XP account without a password , SAP Management Console can not start/stop your instance via Web Service - use system services instead)
For more on Netweaver CE installation check this:

I am not sure but I think the problem is with the allocated shared memory size, which right now is:
<b>init.ora</b>
shared_pool_size = 67108864
<b>init<SID>.ora</b>
shared_pool_size = 90112000
shared_pool_reserved_size = 9011200
If this is the cause of the problem then how much should i increase it to? and do i need to modify the size in both files or only init<SID>.ora? Is there any SAP Note related to this problem? Thanks.
Regards,

Hi Vasu,
ORA-4031... for 99%  of cases this means one thing:
the database instance is not configured correctly.
To proceed, do the following:
1. get rid of init.ora (it's not used at all)
2. make sure that the init<sid>.ora file is really used.
       If there is a spfile in the %ORACLE_HOME&/database folder
       then this will be used.
3. With your  configured shared pool of 85MB your memory should really not be filled up - anyhow it's really too small for a SAP system!
Thus I'd check how much memory the other sga-area members (buffer cache, large pool, streams pool, java pool...) take up.
        Remember on Windows 32 Bit, everything runs in one single process that can only allocate 2GB (or 3GB if you've set this option).

And when you're setting up parameters anyway, check note

• PDF conversion with windows 2000 not working

Hello all, I have a BSP application that is up and running.  When I print with an XP machine, I have no problems.  When I print with a windows 2000 machine, I am looping and never getting to the PDF open screen.  It just keeps looping but if I try from a XP machine, everything works.
Any help would be appreciated.  i have included some of the code.
* Conversion of output format OTF into PDF format
* now convert the final document (OTF format) into PDF format
      call function 'CONVERT_OTF'
           exporting
             format                      = 'PDF'
*         MAX_LINEWIDTH               = 132
*        ARCHIVE_INDEX               = ' '
*        COPYNUMBER                  = 0
           importing
             bin_filesize                = l_pdf_len
             bin_file                    = l_pdf_xstring       " binary file
           tables
             otf                         = ls_output_data-otfdata
             lines                       = lt_lines
           exceptions
             err_max_linewidth           = 1
             err_format                  = 2
             err_conv_not_possible       = 3
             err_bad_otf                 = 4
             others                      = 5
      if sy-subrc <> 0.
*   error handling
*    message id sy-msgid type sy-msgty number sy-msgno
*            with sy-msgv1 sy-msgv2 sy-msgv3 sy-msgv4.
      endif.
* Fill HTTP request
      response->set_header_field( name  = 'content-type'
                                  value = 'application/pdf' ).
* response->delete_header_field( name = 'pragma' ).
* response->delete_header_field( name = 'expires' ).
* response->delete_header_field( name = 'cache-control' ).
* some Browsers have caching problems when loading PDF format
response->set_header_field(
                        name  = 'cache-control'
                        value = 'max-age=0' ).
* start PDF viewer either in the Browser or as a separate window
      if pdf_in_browser is initial.
         response->set_header_field(
                            name  = 'content-disposition'
                            value = 'attachment; filename=BenConf.pdf' ).
      endif.
* finally display PDF format in Browser
      l_pdf_len = xstrlen( l_pdf_xstring ).
      response->set_data( data   = l_pdf_xstring
                          length = l_pdf_len ).
      navigation->response_complete( ).

You must remove all the no-cache headers and definitely disable GZIP compression for PDF files.
