SAP R/3 4.7 SR1 Migration to MSCS cluster environment

Hi all,
We are planning to move our existing standalone server R/3 production server to cluster environment.
I have some queries regarding this migration
Our R/3 system is running on SAP R/3 4.7x1.10 SR1 on Windows 2003 and Oracle 9.2
1. Central Instance has to be installed in local disk or shared disk
2. Is it correct to R3load procedures to export data from old server and import during Database installation
3. Presently our server is running with kernel 640, but for the new installation kernel will be 620. So when can i upgrade kernel immediately after central instance installation or after CI and DB Instance installation.
Give me some inputs
Thanks & Regards
KT

Hi, the best place for your questions would have been the forum SAP on Windows.
However, here the answers.
1) CI must be on a shared disk
2) Right, if you don't change the database platform and its release you can also use backup/restore
3) Right. You can also perform the installation with the latest NW04 installation master

  • EP 6.0 SP2 to NW Portal SR1 migration

I am doing EP 6.0 SP2 to NW EP SR1 migration following How To .. Guide Version 9.00- july 2005.
Page 40, 4.1.1 item 3. Location the KM software components on the NW'04 SR1 installation DVD, in the folders at ...\EP-KMC\. choose and redeploy all the software components in these folders.
I assume that this means component DEV EP-KMC directory and KMC directory.  I should redeploy all SDA files in all directories under KMC which are FS, J2EE and JDDSCHEMA.
    Questions:
Do I need to redeploy ear files in APPLICATION directory under J2EE?
If I follow the check list it just say redeploy SDA files, I should not do it.
If I follow item 3 in page 40, it require redeply all the software components in these folders, I should do it.  I should also redeploy files under DQE and PORTAL and TOOLS since they are all under EP-KMC folder.
If How to guide do not specify the folder \EP-KMC\ and the next sentence, I know what to do.  It just confusing me.  Is there anybody has done the upgrade can give me a idea?
By the way, according to SAP note #732458, after completion of the portal migration,I must re-apply CM&COLL SPS09 patch 3.  But it did not tell which step it should be done.  Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Xiaobo

    Hi Xaiobo,
I do not remember the exact folder names, but the idea there is that you should redeploy <u>all</u> KMC SDAs again.
(afterwards, the Migration Tool will deploy the EP SDAs automatically).
    Hope this will help you,
    regards,
    Aviad

  • Best practice to change SAP BW login parameters after Universe migration

    Hello All,
I am working with SAP BW and BOBJ XI 3.1.
And we are using "Use specified username and password" Authentication mode when we are establishing the connection to SAP BW. At present after migrating the Universe let's say from Dev to Test, We are logging in to the Universe in the Test environment and modifying the connection parameters to point the Universe to Test BW system.
By default when we migrate the Universe it's still pointingg to BW Dev system.
My question is when we use "Use specified username and password" Authentication mode, what's the best way to change the connection parameters.
I would greatly appreciate your input.
    Thanks
    Padma

    Ingo,
Thanks a lot for your response.
At present we are using the standard import wizard.
You think the LifeCycle Management has the option to change the login information during the migration??
Very soon we will be evaluating the tool.
    Thanks
    Padma

  • Conectivity between existent SAP Systems and migrated system to MSCS Cluste

    Hi
I have an existing SAP NW PI 7.0 (Abap + Java on Windows 2003 - SQLServer 2005) and plan to migrate to a cluster with new hardware (MSCS).
I have to prepare for the installation by creating a homogeneous copy of the database but I'm a little bit confused.
-Can I use backup/restore method or only can use import/export with R3load tools? The target system is windows and sql server same versions.
-If I can use backup/restore... what is the rigth sequence to the installation? Can I use sapinst with mixed high availability options and System copy options?
-I need to use in the target system the same hostname and IP address of the actual system, so in the Follow-Up Activities we do not change the configuration between the actual system (SAP NW PI) and other existent systems in the landscape... but I do not know what is the location in the cluster to this hostname and IP:
*The central instance will be in the local disks in the node 1. Is the node 1 the rigth option to use the hostname and IP of the actual system?
*The SAP Cluster group has a virtual hostname and IP, it has message and enqueu services. Is the sap cluster group he rigth option to use the hostname and IP of the actual system?
How is the communication between the other systemas and the new clustered system?
    Thanks for your help

Can I use backup/restore method or only can use import/export with R3load tools? The target system is windows and sql server same versions.
You should follow the SAP guidlines in performing a homogeneous system copy.
I need to use in the target system the same hostname and IP address of the actual system, so in the Follow-Up Activities we do not change the configuration between the actual system (SAP NW PI) and other existent systems in the landscape... but I do not know what is the location in the cluster to this hostname and IP
This is not possible.  If you follow the SAP instructions for installing NW 7.0 in MSCS you will create two cluster groups: DBGroup and SAPGroup.  You will therefore have two virtual IP addresses, one for SAP cluster group and one for DB cluster group.  If you retain the current IP address/hostname for the virtual SAPGroup, you will need to follow the SAP guidelines for performing a SAP system copy to find where to change the database hostname/IP addresses to point to your new DBGroup.
The central instance will be in the local disks in the node 1. Is the node 1 the rigth option to use the hostname and IP of the actual system?
If you are meaning the ASCS then this should be installed on the disks that are part of the SAPGroup in the cluster.
If you mean the dialog instance (or the Central Instance of a Java stack) then this can be on a local disk for node 1, and not in the cluster.
The SAP Cluster group has a virtual hostname and IP, it has message and enqueu services. Is the sap cluster group he rigth option to use the hostname and IP of the actual system
Yes, this will be the message server host for ASCS.

  • Sap Web As 6.40 SR1 post installation error

Hi, I have a problem with the installation of WEB AS ABAP.
I installed  Sap Web As 6.40 SR1 following this steps:
Oracle 9.2.0 with the patch 9.2.0.4
         Web As Abap.
I assigned two different names for the Oracle System ID and the Sap System ID.
All the installations finished without errors.
In the post installation if I enter in the Sap Management
Console to start the SAP instance i see the following error:
    Process: strdbs.cmd
    Description: Database
    Status: could not be started
I try to resolve the problem following Sap note 786673 (section security: change permission
    for Oracle files) but unsuccessfully.
    Do you have any suggestion?

    Hi all,
first of all thanks a lot for your answers.
I have reinstalled the WEB AS ABAP using the same SID for the DB and for SAP (the SID is C01).
Unfortunately, I found the same error when I go to start SAP.
I checked if the oracle services are running and the check was ok, moreover I used the Oracle Enterprise Manager to check if oracle works.
Sanjeev, I tried to find the script stdbs in C:\usr\sap\C01\SYS\exe\run but without success (I can't find the file above-mentioned).
I applied also another time the SAP NOTE 786673 (section security: change permission for Oracle files) but unsuccessfully.
This is the result of the sapstart.loog

  • SAP Web AS 6.40 SR1 - Error on installation (JC00 startup)

    Hi,
I am trying to install SAP Web AS 6.40 SR1 on a Solaris 5.8 64 Bits machine.
I got the necessary packages from SWDC (see topic Web AS SR1 required software from SWDC) and started the process. Everything went fine until I got the penultimate step, when SAPInst tries to restart the Java Engine and synchronize something... After 20 minutes waiting, I am finally getting an error like this (sapinst_dev.log):

Are you able to help me? I have already tried this installation 3 times!!!
    Thanks in advance
    Fernando Urzedo

    Hi Fernando,
to track the problem, you can have a look at the traces in the dev_jcontrol and dev_jcmon trace files located under the /usr/sap/GBS/JC00/work directory of your installation. If the dev_jcontrol file indicates an error in any of the bootstrap processes (bootstrap_<someID>), you can then further track the issue by having a look at the corresponding dev_boostrap_<ID> file in the same directory.
It is likely that the server does not start due to memory problems. If this is the case, have a look at this thread dealing with such a problem: jcontrol.exe J2EE Server stopped
    Hope that helps!

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.30 High-Availability installation without MSCS

    Hi all,
Do we have any option to install SAP NetWeaver 7.30 High-Availability System on the third-party cluster solution, except for MS Cluster Service?
I tried to install the first cluster node without MSCS configuration, however, sapinst.exe checks whether we already set up MSCS on this node, then installer aborted.
I'd like to know the way to disable this checks. (Or, way to mimic the installer as if MSCS cluster configuration was done.)
    If unavailable, I have to install MSCS first, and SAP NetWeaver, then also have to uninstall MSCS instead of out cluster software;
It seems to me no sense.
    Best regards,

    Hi Peter,
    Thanks for your quick response.
It is disappointed for me that HA Installation is tightly combined with MSCS.
Do we have a way to migrate from other installation scenario to High-Availability?
For example, once we install ASCS instance as distributed system, then migrate
it for High-Availability usage, leveraged by profile updates and so on?
I'm not sure how High-Availability installation is different from other installation
scenario except for installation path and hostname to be used for connection.
    Best regards,

  • DB migration from non cluster to cluster

    Hi,
Currently we are installating production on non cluster environment on windows. In future we have to convert this environment as cluster(MSCS).Is there an issues to migrate non cluster to cluster on windows 2003 ,SQL2005 MSCS cluster.
What are the challenges we have to face.
    Thanks
    Kristene

  • Multiple SAP Systems In One MSCS Cluster

We have installed a NW 7.0 EHP abap stack in a MSCS Cluster with 2 nodes.
This was installed as a standard Cluster Install.
We have now higlighted a requirement to install a 2nd (Java ) instance in this Cluster Group.
The NW 7.0 EHP1 documentation and Note 1321854 shows that multiple SAP systems in one  MSCS cluster is supported.
The documentation, however, is not clear if the 2nd instance can be installed when the 1st instance was installed without the preperations for Multiple Systems.
There are no further documentation or guidelines to help.
Has anyone come across this situation or managed to install 2 SAP instances in one Cluster Group based on Windows 2003, SQL Server 2005.
    Regards

I am not quite sure if I understood your problem completley. But let's see...
Usually you use on on MSCS Cluster Group per SAP instance. So you have your already existing NW 7.0 ABAP stack in a separated Cluster Group, and you create a new Cluster Group for your new Java system.
You can find more information about it in this guide here on SDN:
    Link: [High Availability;
More information about High Availability Setups for SAP System can be found here on SDN:
    Link: [High Availability]
If you want to use the same database for your clustered ABAP stack and your new Java stack you can do a MCOD installation.
Please see Link: [SAP Note 388866 - Multiple Components on One Database - Installation|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/388866]
    Hope this helps.

  • Content Migration into the Portal Environment

We have a handbook of more than 1200 pages which have to be migrated into the portal environment.
These pages after migrating should be able to be edited while in the editor.
Can anyone direct me how to achieve that. I really appreciate your response. Please let me know if any information is needed.
    Thanks,

If the source material is in a Microsoft Office format (MS Word, for example) and if you have Collaboration Server, you can bulk upload the handbook into a collaboration project.
Collaboration has a WebEdit feature (assuming you installed it in your environment) that you can use to check out, edit and check in documents in the browser without downloading them to your local machine.
The users would need to have at least Edit access to the documents through project security.

  • Automatic Migration into a Q environment

Our company has a D,Q,P environment.  We migrate to production on a weekly basis.  Our company is thinking about automating the migration into the Q environment - so 2 hours after release, the migration has gone from D to Q irrespective of any testing.  There is no status change or action by the developer - it just goes.   These seems to destroy the purpose of a Q environment to me - it has now become a D environment.   Can someone share best practice regarding the operation of a Q environment.
