    Hi Gurus
As i m a continuous learner to keep my expertise in SAP in different cutting edge technologies and upcoming new SAP modules ,tools ,updations on everyday developments , i want to know how can we get or download SAP standard documents or any such related information from any SAP related websites .please assist for my career and development in SAP.

I think such things are good initiatives and I maintained a similar "box of tricks" once which I hardly ever use now, so I would also like to be honest with you...
You will need to put a lot more effort into your xls spreadsheet to start with before this framework and resource center (one of many!) will attract additional contributors to make it a central point of contact on the subject of SAP security. In fact this sounds like marketing jargon, and advertising is against the forum rules here on SDN.
    > It will be written in a manner which anyone new to SAP can take it and use it for SAP Security Assessment.
In my opinion, anyone new in SAP Security should first take a training course and get hold of an IDES system to practice on.
I think you should take a thorough look at some of the other resources available already before deciding how to embark on this task.
You certainly wouldn't want it to be redundant and (release dependently) obsolete, and therefore incorrect even, by the time you finish it.
Your xls spreadsheet in it's current form does not look like a good strategy to me...
    Just being honest,
    Julius

  • Any university doing research with SAP?

    Hello,
We are trying to integrate SAP into our research, maybe by linking it to a simulation engine and run supply chain operations with a real ERP system.  Has anyone tried to interface SAP with other systems during their research?  if so, what was your experience?
    Thanks

    Pavel,
Thanks for your posting in this new forum. Very soon, an additional area (UA Research Area) will be going live on the SAP UA Community Portal. This global site will be designed to connect researchers and faculty around the world to share, discuss and collobatively advance research on very large business applications such as SAP's business suite.
Related to André`s answer you might find examples for research topic close to ERP software under SAP Research or Center for Very Large Business Application.
Best regards and keep in touch,
    Stefan

  • Want to move to SAP after 6+ years of experience in a completely different field?

Hi and Good Day to all lovely people on SCN.
I have been following this site for quite a few months now, reason: I am hooked to the wonderful world of SAP.
I still haven't personally experienced it, and currently in dire need of suggestions from your expertise.
After completing my MBA in Finance & Marketing, I started working for a Multi-National Bank in its Back Office Operations.
Been 6+ years and now am planning to also explore and enhance my knowledge in IT field which would be relevant to my
current experience and help amplify the chances of improving my career.
Am confused, and unable to determine which modules should I start with to get the basics of SAP.
Hence request you all show me how to take my first steps and gradually move faster by strengthening my roots.
Request you all to show me a road map, which would help me overcome any hurdles on the way to my destination of
being certified in at least one module.
I support Foreign Exchange operations and have fair (but not in depth) technical knowledge of how two systems are linked together to get the
job done automatically. Since, basically am from Finance, I have good knowledge on different financial products. Hope this would help you to
determine which module in SAP would be well suited for me.
I request every one of you to, please help me out and guide me so that I can make most of it.
Anxiously looking forward to receive responses.
    Thank you & Regards
    Bilal Ahmed D

    Hi Bilal
Honest question here: Why SAP? You appear to have zero exposure or experience, including not knowing what "SAP AG" is yet you are keen to completely change your career? How did you hear about SAP? Sorry, I do not mean to be unkind.
So far you have described your background and asked what module. You've received some recommendation on what module based on a very high level summary you have provided - back-end operations can mean a multitude of work activities.
I have also tried to provide you with an alternative approach to entering SAP. In my recommendation it is not about being hired because you do have or not have SAP skill set. It is about getting a job because you have industry experience and you just happen to now work for a company that uses SAP. Once you start working for the company you then start using SAP as an end user. You get more exposure to the system from that point of view. You may even discover that SAP does your head in (it happens to all of us at some point) and you are no longer interested.
I am not a functional person nor industry qualified so I can't say which module is right for you. But the reality is no-one in SCN is qualified to tell you what pursue. Particularly, when you seem to want to change industry as well - sounds like you are planning to go back to square one whether you intend to or not. If you were to change industry, how would you achieve that? Your approach in changing industry would probably include the same steps as changing product knowledge to SAP: research, hard work, networking, job application, etc and a bit of luck and opportunity presenting itself at the right time for you to capitalise on.
How intensely you should work will also come down your natural abilities and motivation/desire to succeed in my career path.
For education, search SCN for Learning Hub. You can obtain free access to some course material which would include introduction for you to have a look and see what it's all about and what takes your interest.
But please keep in mind (and search other posts here).. a lot of freshers seek training and certification with expectation it will lead to a well-paid job. They then come here and ask why no one hires freshers or why did they spend all this money on certification when experience is sought. You have experience, just a different flavour.
    Regards
    Colleen

  • SODA - Service Oriented Integration of Medical Devices in Hospitals

In this thread I will write about my dissertation project. It addresses the problem of the integration of medical devices with their proprietary interfaces and data models into the existing hospitals´ IT infrastructure.
Interoperability is an almost non-existent feature of medical devices. The consequences of non-interoperable devices in hospitals are manifold. Medical data produced by devices cannot be directly integrated into hospital information systems for medical documentation. Thus, important data will be lost and examinations have to be repeated if required information is not available due to incomplete documentation. In addition, the documentation quality is affected by human errors due to manual nonelectronic steps and media discontinuities. Another example is maintenance. Medical devices have to be maintained at regular intervals. Thus, an inventory of all devices, their status and maintenance intervals is needed for generating a maintenance manual. Currently there is usually no possibility for automatically getting a detailed inventory of all medical devices in a hospital (or section of a hospital).
The market size in conjunction with a multitude of companies and products (the DIMDI information system contains data about 60,000 medical devices) results in challenges concerning interoperability due to different proprietary hard- and software interfaces, data structures and semantical interpretations. Initiatives like IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) are trying to push standardization in the medical sector. However u2013 as mentioned above - the current situation is still unsatisfying and increasingly getting worse due to the continuously growing number of medical devices and associated interfaces.
A promising approach for overcoming interoperability issues is the service oriented device integration, also known as SODA (Service Oriented Device Architecture). The basic concept is the encapsulation of devices as services, analogous to enterprise services in service oriented architectures (SOA). An enterprise service is a software component that offers a business functionality on a highly semantical level by specifying the interface in a standardized way (e.g. by the Webservice Description Language u2013 WSDL). Highly semantical level especially means, that a service is self-descriptive in a way that it can be consumed dynamically and loosely coupled by other components with a consistent understanding of shared data. In the medical domain a device service for instance could offer functionality for measuring the current blood pressure of a patient. Based on such basic services more complex services (like a patient monitoring system) can be realized.
The main advantage of the service oriented approach is that the manufacturer-specific device interface does not have to be known by the service consumer and by the programmer respectively, as it is encapsulated by a standardized service interface. This enables the extension of IT supported medical processes by devices, e.g. by using the Business Process Execution Language (BPEL). In addition new functionalities could be added to the device service that are logically related to the device but not offered by the device itself (e.g. tracking & tracing functionalities); so the device service can be considered as a virtual device. Therefore software maintenance will become easier, because the service interface remains unchanged in case of a device exchange or device interface changes. In my dissertation project I will explore the advantages and obstacles of the SODA concept in comparison to existing approaches for integrating medical devices in hospitals.
The SODA approach is in accordance with the SAP Enterprise SOA (ESOA) strategy. For instance, the scope of the Healthcare Community Definition Group is to further enhance the Enterprise Services (ES) Bundles Patient Administration and Medical Activities, Patient Billing and Invoicing and to define a new ES Bundle on Medical Documentation. SODA projects define services for devices. These services can use or combined with Enterprise Services, e.g., for Patient Administration. In the EU funded project SOCRADES, SAP Research explores the SODA approach in other domains, especially industrial automation.

Hmm, perhaps your other discovery settings are configured that it'll get the OOB OU because you're OOB OU is under some other OU that's configured to be discovered and you have the recursive and group settings turned on, CHECK this first.
Remove the OOB from your discovery. For testing purposes, remove (delete) one or more machine objects from the ConfigMgr console, wait a while and then run the AD System Discovery again and check what object gets there. AD system discovery shouldn't look
objects from other OUs than the ones you've specified in the discovery settings.
I'm not that familiar with vPro, so the behavior you're seeing might well be the default, but I doubt that.. Doen't make sense that you control your computer objects.
For more information you could also post adsysdis.log from the configmgr server.

  • Product - "Search on Data". How do I evaluate this?

In the following url there is reference to a BO XI addin for 'Search on Data'. I would like more information on this but cannot find any further reference to it in the SAP website. Is there a trial version I can download? OR is this now bundled in with XI 3.x? I am using XI R2.
    SAP Research - Productized Prototypes
The product description is as follows:
    SEARCH ON DATA
From the same InfoView search, key word searches also directly query data sources and return answers. No existing BI reports are required for this to work. Results are dynamically returned in an auto-generated Web Intelligence document. This remarkably simple way to answer questions brings the power of BI to any employee who knows how to use Google and other intuitive key word searches. For existing BI users, this also provides a very fast way to start creating reports.

This happened to me with the same device. I wouldn't worry about having it just say other as that is just information, if you really need to know what is using the most of your device's storage to to Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage and that will tell you what apps are using in terms of your storage. Besides that, "other" is just iTunes knowing that there is information, how much there is, just not what it is. So syncing your device a few times and letting it stay plugged in should allow iTunes to recognize what information is on your iPod. Hope I could help!

  • JPA Problem: Table not found by JPA run-time

I am using NetWeaver 7.3 with an MS SQL Server 2008 and have created a EJB and EAR development component, which are correctly set up.
I want to access tables in the database. I have the problem that a colleague has created new tables in the database that I want to access via JPA. In NWDS, I can generate the entities without a problem through the JPA tools, using the Eclipse Data source of the MS SQL server. However, when I deploy the project, I get an error message upon injection of the entity manager, saying that the tables do not exist - although they are there for sure!
Caused by: java.lang.RuntimeException: The persistence unit is inconsistent with the database schema:
Error on entity >>com.sap.research.meregio.test.MerTest<<: The table >>MER_TEST<< does not exist.

Can it be, that the JPA runtime in the server only allows me to access tables that I have created through a Dictionary component? Or is it a "refresh" problem, meaning that the application server does not realize that new tables have been created? If the latter is true, can I "flush" or "refresh" the DB schema in NW?

    Hi,
it depends on the data source your JPA application is running against.
If it is configured for Open SQL (e.g. you are using the system data source), you need to define your database tables using the Java Dictionary. If you are using the JPA Tooling (Dali) in the NWDS, you can associate your JPA project with a Java Dictionary Project or a Java Dictionary DC. Then, you can use forward mapping ("generate database tables from entities") to create database table definitions in the Java Dictionary that exactly match your tables required by your JPA application:

Unfortunately, it is not possible to import table definitions you have created using native tools into the Java Dictionary.

  • Portal Network Traffic

    Hi all,
I would like to know if it is possible for the SAP Portal Server to get all requested iView information from a logged on client and forward it back to the client.  This way the client only talks to the SAP Portal server and the server then gathers all requested information and sends it back to the client.
Currently in my Sap Portal when a client opens a url iView or SAP Transaction iView the user browser is redirected to the source URL.  I realize that this would mean a lot of extra overhead of the Portal Server, but I would like to know if its possible.

  • CCMS for Business Objects

    All,
I am trying to configure to ccms setup for  Business Objects XI 3.1 but could not find right documentation specific to BO.
We need to monitor Tomcat, some of Bo server and also file systems.
Have anyone done anything with CCMS on BO ?
Thanks in Advance for the help !
    Raj

I don't know about CCMS and BO.
But if you need to monitor BO, you can use the probes.
You have to create an automation process yourself.
I created a console app in .net that runs the probes every 15 minutes and sends me an email everytime there 's an error.
The probes are really easy to use and install.
The output files can be used with TIvoli or other monitoring tool.

According to one researcher/PhD candidate/successful about 50% of all computer errors are hardware related. Unfortunately, those errors are capable of causing disk errors in the code for any program. Esp on that does lots of read/writes such as LR.
That can lead to a sudden problem with LR. And then there are the situation where LR "asks" for a card reader connection. It should of course "forget it" if the request is not answered in a few seconds. Instead it seems to wait. The OS should also "time out" the response back from the card reader and tell LR it is a no go. Whose problem is this? Possibly both. Also it doesn't seem to be a problem on all computers. Why, who knows.
Finally in XP applications, the old bugaboo of order of load seems to show up in certain circumstances.
So, just because one's hardware runs pretty well, doesn't mean that you don't have problems. Since I don't seem to have any of those problems, I am assuming my hardware is working well now. Maybe not in the future. I am on the alert.

  • SAP and University jointly offered scholarships / bursaries

    Greetings all,
May I ask - do any universities provide any financial funding to their students within the remit of the UA Program. Two universities in the UK have for the past two years offered an SAP Scholarship / Bursary. University of Surrey offers ten bursaries worth £5,000 each - in effect they reduce the cost of the degree for the student by £5,000 rather than giving them a cash prize. They refer to these as the SAP Scholarships principally because they introduced an MSc an it went from 12 to 60 students by marketing their membership of the UA program.
Lancaster University does the same with a single scholarship on their IT and the Management of Change degree - reducing the cost by £3,000 and referring it to it as an SAP Scholarship.
These are of course both marketing approaches as SAP hands over no money itself but they represent a real investment of about £55,000 on the part of the universities as it is real revenue lost. The benefit is that the universities get a huge marketing boost and are able to attract both more students (12 to 60) and better students (in both cases the students have to have been awarded a 'First', or in other words the top rated degree obtainable in the UK.
I was wondering if any other universities around the world have adopted anything similar and what other marketing / promotional techniques faculty use in collaboration with SAP to attract more and better students.

    Hello,
As an active UA member, we are interested in supervising PhD students in SAP related areas (Business Intelligence in my own case). Please be aware that, as a student, your PhD would need to have a focus on the challenges and issues in the area (many are noted in both the threads on the Community Network) and not on SAP technology per se - though you may well use SAP technology or additions to it to develop/demonstrate solutions to issues and challenges.
We offer full and part-time study options and details can be found at the following URL:
    http://www.brunel.ac.uk/about/acad/siscm/disc/pg/phd
I do not mean to use this as an advert for my institution in particular - as noted in other posts there are many choices open to you.

  • PHD Programme with Scholarship need

    Hi All
I am working on SAP BI, IM a MBA graduate. Looking for a PHD or any research programme in SAP. can you please help me which Universities offering this type of Courses. Im from india iam open to any where in Globe. Provide me the information of Universities with stiphend
Edited by: Harshabw on Oct 19, 2010 10:10 AM

    Hello,
You should decide for yourself if you are interested in an Information Technology PhD or a Business PhD.  In the IT area, you might be interested in Enterprise Systems, Analytical Systems, IT Integration, Systems Management Tools, etc.  In Business, it could be Accounting Information Systems, Operations Management, etc.
You have to decide what your own interest is before you can apply for a PhD.  Then, there is no PhD in SAP.  Your PhD will be in some technical or scientific area related to SAP technology or content.  This is your critical choice.  Don't underestimate this, because to get a PhD, you have to be very motivated.  The topic should greatly interest you.
Then, once you have a topic area, you need to investigate which universities and professors are also interested in this area.  It is not the same as applying for a master of a specific type.  You have to find a professor to supervise your thesis who has experience and interest in your subject.
We have 1000 institutions.  Many of them offer doctoral degrees.  You can use this list to help you focus on a certain number of universities of interest to you by location, reputation, cost, etc.  Then you will need to investigate each institution, one-by-one, to see if they have a doctoral program (IT or Business) and professor in your area of interest.
    Best Wishes
    Bob LoBue, Dr. oec.

  • Collection of reference workflow models in SAP R/3 for research

    Hi,
within SAP R/3 (at least in version 4.6c) there must be a collection of reference workflow models modeled as EPCs that can be exported e.g. with ARIS Toolset for SAP NetWeaver. These models were used for some research about process metrics in the past (e.g. by Jan Mendling [1]).
For own research purposes, I am interested in these models. But the university I'm working with, has no SAP R/3 installation.
Is there a possibility to get these reference workflow models by SAP (of course strictly for research purposes)? I already sent an e-mail to SAP but haven't got any "fitting" answers - probably because my question did not rearch the right person for my problem.
Maybe, a SAP employee working in this area reads this message and can help me.
    Thanks in advance!

Thereu2019s no great secret that I have ever heard of...  there is  a central transaction SWDM (Business Workflow Explorer) in any ABAP system where you can access all of the workflows of that system using a search range e.g. by entering the appropriate application component.
From here you can display any workflow you have found using the context menu option (i.e. right click and choose display).
When viewing a workflow in the workflow builder, you can use the menu option Extras > Options > Display of Graphical Modelling View to swap to the Classic Event Driven Process Chains view.
Your best bet for transporting it is probably to use the Print... option in the menu then adjust the Output Options... to output it as a file and pick the file type you want to use.
Thereu2019s an X ML export option as well, but I suspect itu2019s just the image that you need.
