SAP Shutdown Necessary During Oracle Backup via BRBACKUP ?

Hi,
Is it necessary to shutdown SAP before backing up the Oracle database via BRBACKUP ?
The BRBACKUP will run cold db backup.
What's the windows script to shutdown & startup SAP v6 ?
TIA !
DL

Hi Desmond,
That is depends upon the backup type you are selecting.
If you are going to take a cold backup brbackup will shutdowns the database and takes backup.
If you are going for a online backup it will take backup without sutting down database.
And here no need to shutdown database manually, brbackup shutdowns database and takes backup.
I didn't understand your second query, what is the script?

    Hi
We have offline backup scheduled every friday via SAP the backup runs fine & copies all the files in the backup directory but when i go see the backup logs in DB 14 i see the Offline Backup ending with Error Code 0005 & when i see the Detail logs i see following in red

Please also note that we have a Disaster Recovery Server too & the above mentioned errors are in our (Production )Primary Database & once this backu finished the DR Server stops getting any log files, this happens only when this offline backup on every friday runs,
    Issues
The backup ends with errors although the backup file is generated & all data is copied
DR Server dont get redo log files after this offline backup on every friday

for the Cp errors i will see the permissions in backup/UHP ( this error is happening in online backup ) my main concern is the error occured in offline backup as it is somehow connected with our DR SERVER NOT GETTING THE LOG FILES EVEN AFTER THE SYSTEM IS UP ( yes if the primary is down no logs will be shipped to standby i know that but even after the primary is up after a offline backup via SAP via DB 13 the standby dont get any log files unless i restart the database and SAP )
So the error in the offline backup mentioned above in my post occurred at 29 OCT 15: 45  20
BR0302E SQLPLUS call for database instance UHP failed
BR0306E Start and open of database instance UHP failed
after this my primary database comes up & sap starts but the DR server dont get any logs & also the backup logs show the above errors in red
Given below is the text from Oracle alert file for the same time duration when the system tries to start the database & the above mentioned error comes up in opening the database time Stamp : OCT 29 15: 45 20
Deprecated system parameters with specified values:
    log_archive_start
End of deprecated system parameter listing
This is the only oracle alert log errors i can find relevant to database instance errors from DB 14
moreover in the alert file it also starts the data broker service relevant to i guess DR server in that all seems fine it starts everything then it gives this error & then keeps giving errors ( from oracle alert log file )
Error 12154 received logging on to the standby

  • SAP R/3 on Oracle 9i : check online backup

    Hi there,
I would like to integrate a check on the status of the online database backup (which runs on a daily basis) into a central monitoring system.
On way to do it is to check on OS level for the latest backup log file and read the status at the end of this file.
I wonder if it's also possible to check the backup status by doing a select on database table(s) and if so which table(s) should I query ?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Erik

    Hi,
You can implement CCMS alert configuration in your system to check the status of daily backup. For that use tcode RZ20->Monitoring>Oracle>Backup/restore>Backup status>Last succ. complete database backup or Last brbackup run
YOu also need to create a monitoring method in RZ21.
Please refer SAP Note 0176492 for details
    Hope this helps you.
    Thanks

  • Sap Oracle Backup

    Hi all it's very urgent
We are running 4 oracle 9.2 database in a single machine with sap r/3 4.7 on windows 2003 and even in a single drive now i am responsible for backup
which method is prefered one whether BRBACKUP or Manual OR scripting
what about scheduling cold and hot backup
here we have hardware resource constraint

    Hi
For Oracle Backups the preferred backup method is RMAN. I suggest you read docs for more information. Try focusing on incremental backups as you suggested space constraints.

  • Low Network Utilization in Remote Disk Backup via SAP FTP

    Hi gurus,
I'm running whole online backup + redo log to backup my SAP server to backup server via SAPFTP (remote disk backup).
I'm using 100Mbps network connection between the two servers, with SAP server configured to 'maximize data throughput for network application'.
When I copy data from SAP Server to backup server manually, the speed is OK (around 98% network utilization).
But when I use put command in program RSFTP002 (SAPFTP) for the same file, the network utilization is just around 10%.
I use Windows Server 2003 x64 for SAP Server, and Windows Server 2008 x64 for Backup Server.
Each has adequate RAM, 8GB for SAP Server and 4GB for Backup Server.
Is this technical problem or is it because backup is considered background process, thus lowering its speed?
Help will be very much appreciated.

    go read http://help.sap.com/saphelp_45b/helpdata/en/0d/d311324a0c11d182b80000e829fbfe/frameset.htm
it's old but should help you nonetheless.
I would not use SAPFTP as you found out, it is slow.
use DD instead which is much faster.

  • SAP SRM Prod with Oracle DB and AIX 5.3 Performance Issue.

    Hi Basis Gurus,
Today my SAP PRD system all of a sudden was running slow and users had difficulties executing TCodes as it took minutes before the screen appeared. My system is SAP SRM 4.00, Oracle Release 11.2.0.1.0 and AIX 5.3.
From Basis point of view , we noticed that all the work process were hanged due to RFCs' occupying it.Couldnt investigate further on the system as we needed to restart asap because users needed to log on. A quick check on SICK shows no errors. What we managed to find out is that we needed to check this parameter below and set it accordingly:-
    rdisp/rfc_min_wait_dia_wp:-
    Definition
Number of work processes kept free for other users.
    Use
This parameter is used to reserve a number of dialog work processes for dialog mode. It prevents parallel RFCs from occupying all the processes.
The parameter rdisp/wp_no_dia specifies the absolute number of dialog work processes.
Unit: number of dialog work processes
    Default value: 1
    Example
If 10 dialog work processes are configured for the instance (rdisp/wp_no_dia = 10) and the parameter rdisp/rfc_min_wait_dia_wp  = 3 is set, parallel RFCs can occupy a maximun of 7 dialog work processes. Three dialog work processes always remain free for dialog mode.
There are 20 DIA processes in our system, perhaps reserving a minimum of about 5 work processes for DIA users will be useful via the parameter.
So my first question would be is there any other suggestions besides adjusting the mentioned parameter above in order to ensure that no work processors going into hang state due to RFCs' occupying it as this issue always happens at the end of the month only when there are massive users accessing it.
When we went for a restart of the system we encountered another issue. Steps to the issue are as below:-
    1) Did a proper shutdown of Oracle and SAP.
    2) When we start using startsap script, it doesn't start DB so we started DB manually but listener was having problem
        so we stopped all.
    3) We also did a cleanipc, it too throws below error:-
    sidadm> cleanipc <systemno> remove
exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program cleanipc because of the following errors:
0509-130 Symbol resolution failed for cleanipc because:
0509-136   Symbol memmove (number 106) is not exported from
                   dependent module /usr/sap/sid/SYS/exe/run/libsapu16.so.
0509-192 Examine .loader section symbols with the
                   'dump -Tv' command.
    4) Also the Listener file has no contents,it's null file.
    5) This is another error :-
exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program /oracle/sid/112_64/bin/tnslsnr because of the following errors:
0509-150   Dependent module /oracle/sid/112_64/lib/libttsh11.so could not be loaded.
0509-101   The module has too many section headers
        or the file is damaged
The libttsh11.so file was empty dated 25th timestamp as below in PRD:-
    -rw-rr    1 sid   dba               0 Nov 25 07:12 libttsh11.so
Further checking has let me to understand this is an Oracle Bug from this link:-
    http://gavinsoorma.com/2009/12/11-1-0-6-clusterware-upgrade-to-11-1-0-7/
This Oracle bug only happens in an Upgrade time and how could this happen to my Production system during a restart process.
Also this system was restarted during the last weekend's maintainance window and it came up with no issues.
    6) We copied over the libttsh11.so from our QA environment to PRD and did a Startup:-
-rwxr-x---    1 sid   dba        65967496 Nov 25 07:40 libttsh11.so (This is the copied over file from QA)
    7) After Startup everything has been in order till now.
My second question is what went wrong with the libttsh11.so file. How could it be 0 size in PRD when no signs of changes had happen to the PRD system. Is this a proven Oracle Bug or something else since I have never encountered anything like this before. Hope all the Gurus here could shed some light into my 2 questions as I am looking for positive answers.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    John

    Hi,
Firstly I would suggest you to upgrade your database from Oracle Release 11.2.0.1.0 to Oracle Release 11.2.0.2 . This is the recommended Oracle 11g database version  for SAP solutions. Many of your problem will get resolved with it.
    Question 1:
So my first question would be is there any other suggestions besides adjusting the mentioned parameter above in order to ensure that no work processors going into hang state due to RFCs' occupying it as this issue always happens at the end of the month only when there are massive users accessing it.
For immediate resolution the approach you have followed is correct viz limiting number of dialog processes for RFC. Secondly you need to analyze why RFC processing takes so much time. You need check which programs are getting executed by those RFC.
Generate EarlyWatch report for more detailed view
    Question 2:
My second question is what went wrong with the libttsh11.so file. How could it be 0 size in PRD when no signs of changes had happen to the PRD system. Is this a proven Oracle Bug or something else since I have never encountered anything like this before.
The libttsh11.so library cannot be found in the related directory.
    Cause
The file system is mounted using CIO option, but per Note 257338.1 Direct I/O (DIO) and Concurrent I/O (CIO) on AIX 5L, an ORACLE_HOME on a filesystem mounted with "cio" option is not supported.
Such a configuration will cause, installation, relinking and other unexpected problems.
    Solution
Disable the CIO option on the filesystem.

    Hi Scott,
Thank you for the quick reply. However, I have another thing to bring up. I created an exact replica of this instance to a separate server for my online backup testing. I used mksysb for my rootvg and created a backup of my datavg and restored it to the new server. To my surprise, my online backup worked. Im currently running it so that I can upload the log in this thread. I checked on the version of the brtools and they are both of the same level. Also, I forgot to mention that I've been using offline backup via brtools since last year. It was only now that Im trying to implement an online backup. Would this problem still be caused by brarchive patch 18?
    Thanks in advance!

  • SAP Note 23345 for Oracle Consistency Check

    Dear All,
I would like to run a Consistency check using backup type = online option via DB VERIFY but unfortunately each time I run the backup online using the below commands I am getting permission error.I have run the commands below using ORA<SIDADM>
    brbackup -u / -m all -w only_rmv -e <parallel degree> -c
    brbackup -u / -m all only_dbv -c -t online -e 3
    brbackup -u / -m all -w only_dbv -e 3 -c
    brbackup -u / -c force -w only_dbv -t online -p init<sidadm>.sap -m ALL -e 3
    brbackup -u / -c force -w only_dbv -p init<sidadm>.sap -m ALL
I hope someone could provide what is the best command to use in order to execute the Consistency check in Online mode as I am planning to schedule it on weekly basis with the Online option..
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    John

  • System copy using oracle backup/restore - sapinst does not restart after re

I am performing a system copy of a BW3.5 system, using the system copy procedures and Oracle backup/restore. on the target node, I have installed the CI. I have run sapinst to install the database up to the point when it tells me to install the Oracle Server software, then restore the backup, and choose 'OK' in the dialog box. As I did not want to leave this dialog open, I chose 'cancel'. I have now installed Oracle, and restored the database, but when I try restarting sapinst I get the following error, and sapinst quits:

    Hi Angie,
You should always mention OS details while drafting message.
First, CHeck you must selected same SID as earlier while installation or Oracle and DB.
Secondly, you can skip this phase in SAPInst, bit technical for you.
    Alternatively,
    Recommendations
    - Set parameters as per SAP Note 356370
    - Change the swap mode from 'intermediate' to 'deferred' as described in
      SAP Note 97179.
    - Add /usr/sbin to the path of the user <sapsid>adm in the file
.cshrc, .login, .profile in the user's home directory. Enter the
following command(s) at the end of .cshrc, .login, .profile:
      a) If using a csh, enter:
           set path=(/usr/sbin $path)
      b) If using a sh, enter:

  • BR0313E Database instance VWQ started up during offline backup

    Hi,
For the last two weeks, we are getting errror message during offline backup BR0313E Database instance VWQ started up during offline backup, backup starts at 1600 & goes on smoothly till 2100, after that above erroor message comes & backup terminates.Earlier offline backup happens without errors.moreover we havn't made any change in any paraamter.
After this error SAP application throws error Connect to the default database is not there, due to which we need to restart the SAP Application.Online backups are getting completed successfully without any error, space in drives is also sufficient.
    Our landscape is:
    Databse:Oracle 10.2
    SAP : R/3 4.7 C
    OS: Windows
    Please suggest.
    Thanks

So is the database really started when you get that error message? Someone or something (a script?) may start the database.

  • "Error while accessing porting layer for ORACLE database via getSessionId()

    Hi,
My ejb3.0 Entity is created from Emp table in scott/tiger schema of an Oracle 10g database. I am guessing I made some mistake creating the datasource or uploading the driver, because when I run my application, I get a long exception stack trace. The bottom-most entry in the stack trace is:
Caused by: com.sap.sql.log.OpenSQLException: Error while accessing porting layer for ORACLE database via getSessionId().

Are you referring to performing RMAN backup operations via the OSB web tool? RMAN operations are managed, not via the web tool, but through RMAN command line or Oracle Enterprise Manager (EM)

  • System Copy/ Oracle Backup/Restore as part of migrating from 32 to 64-bit

    Source system (I386): R3E47 Ext Set 2.00 SAP_BASIS 620 Kernel 640 Windows 2000, Oracle 10.2.0.4, non-unicode
    Target system (x86-64/AMD64): R3E47 Ext Set 2.00 SAP_BASIS 620 Kernel 640 Windows 2000 Oracle 10.2.0.4, non-unicode
Am using method System Copy/ Oracle Backup/Restore to migrate from 32 to 64 bit (HOM System Copy).
    Actions on source system:
    a) Upgrade from 9.2.0.7 to Oracle 10.2.0.4
    b) Used ora_br_copy.bat to generate CONTROL.SQL and init<sid>.ora
    c) Switched logfiles
    d) Performed offline backup
    Actions on target system:
    a) Installed Oracle 10.2.0.1 and patched it to 10.2.0.4
    b) Used CD 51033746 "6.20/6.40 based products Installation Master (Edition May 2008)" to install the CI
    c) Started installation of the DB instance selecting System Copy/ Oracle Backup/Restore (same <SID> for source and target systems)
    Relevant input parameters used:
    Database schema: SAPR3
    Database character set: US7ASCII
    d) When SAPINST stopped to allow for restoring of datafiles, logs and init<sid.ora>:
    - copied datafiles and logs to the usual place
    - copied CONTROL.SQL (edited to include utilrp.sql and utlrp.sql for the migration from 32 to 64) to the DB-instance intallation . directory.
    - copied generated init<SID>.ora to the <ORACLE_HOME>\database
    e) Resumed SAPINST.
David Byrne in a previous post suggested: "check your oracle alert file in case there are errors there you may need to update the word size for the 64bit install. Errors like this in the oracle alert file would suggest that.,
    ORA-12012
    ORA-06544: PL/SQL: internal error, arguments: [ORA-06544: PL/SQL: internal error, arguments: 56319], [, ], [, ], [, ], [
    ORA-06553"
Well, I am getting ORA-06553: PLS-801: internal error [56319] but then my edited CONTROL.SQL (which is mainly a CREATE CONTROLFILE as it would be obtained with a ...BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE) includes at the end this:
    shutdown immediate
    startup upgrade
    spool utlirp.log
    @?/rdbms/admin/utlirp.sql
    spool off
    Shutdown immediate
    Startup
    Spool utlrp.log
    @?/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql
    Spool off
    exit
which is supposed to do just that... (I think)
    Help, anyone?

    > Trying to cheer me up, are you?
    No
    > It is NOT free that reorganization! Quite expensive, actually, paid for in time! But you're right... the database needed a reorg anyway :-\
True, not "free" - it takes time but the data will be nicely aligned then
    > And why would I have to reconfigure all those 10.2 features? Everything's either in the database or init<sid>.ora, ain't it? And my database is a pretty 10.2.0.4 with all those nice features already activated...
No - not really auotmatically if you upgraded from 9.2 And "init<SID>.ora" is past, you nowadays use "spfile" If, of course, e. g. Automatic Undo was activated in 9.2 then it's there of course in 10.2 too.
    > One sticky point... I haven't really read the r3load procedure yet and I will before I import, but... I would say I don't have to do anything about the 32->64 bit, right? I mean, it should behave properly while reloading on 64-bit...
The exported content is about 10 % of the size of the system, it's database and OS independent so yes, you can import it nicely on 32bit. Another tip: make sure you don't just use the default configurations for R3load, it will take a HUGE amount of time. Use the package splitter (builtin-in in sapinst) so you get a much higher parallelism when importing.
