SAP Signature Design and AFP

Hi everyone,
I read through the signature design by SAP and it appears they did a lot of work to bring this new harmonized and compelling UI into the Portal.
My question is: since they put so much effort into this exercise (mood boards, analysis, R&D), how much are we supposed to invest into its customization (I mean reworking the UI to suit customer's needs)?
What's the guideline and the advised approach to follow?
Thank you.
Regards,
Marco

Hi Marco (or Ben according to your login??),
About a year ago I spent a bit of time getting the SAP Signature to look pretty sexy for an external facing portal (i.e. Making it not look like it was SAP branded).  Back then it was a little unstable, but by the go-live date; it was pretty trivial to make it look fantastic.  For example, it would take about 2 hours to apply all the changes made when a new support pack was released with changes to the theme.
The trick is just understanding how all the content is used; what is available to modify within the theme editor, and what needs to be modified directly in the exported theme ZIP file.  This obviously takes a little experience editing themes and learning AFP; but it's well worth it - as it looks and feels great - not to mention once it's cached - runs very smoothly.
Hope that is of some help,
Matt

  • SAP Signature Design & Task Bar Auto-Hide Feature

    Hi Experts,
I'm having a problem with SAP Business One 8.8 PL18 using the new 8.8 SAP Signature Design. We are in a business with 4 professionals and 1 CRM. When we use the SAP Signature Design Skin Style and you have SBO maximized on the screen and you have Windows auto-hide the Task bar. You can't go back to the task bar with your mouse to switch applications or to just go to your start menu. The only way you can make the task bar appear is by pressing the "window key" to make the task bar display. To change applications, you can still use the "Alt Tab feature". If I put the Skin Style to Classic Mode, everything works great with no apparent display problems.
I've tried this on 3 different operating systems. Windows 7, Windows XP and Windows 2003 Server and the same results. The task bar won't re-pop up if you move your mouse down to it (I tried moving the task bar to the left, top or right to see if that made a difference, and it didn't). I've been using the "Window Key" for now to make the task bar pop up (display), but I think it's a bug with the skin style and not the operating system.
I've tried to get this resolved with our partner, but I don't think they understand the problem, or are just not willing to acknowledge the problem. They probably think it is a petty problem. We all like the new design and would like to use it properly while still having the task bar auto-hide.
The question actually is, do you know of this problem, is there something I can disable or do to get it to work (ie: make it run with compatibility mode to something) or do I just have to live with this problem?
I thank you very much in trying or helping me with this problem
    Ron
    IT Manager

    Hi Ron,
Welcome you post on the forum.
I don't have the same version to test. Based on your detailed explanation, I do think it is probably a bug. Since it may not be used by many users, it could have low priority to be fixed even if it is confirmed to be a bug.
    Thanks,

  • Puzzle - Anatomy of SAP Signature Design

Nice -:) That's why you always need to double check before posting something LOL
    Greetings,
    Blag.

    > Well, that's a good point, but in my opinion, we should have the choice. If I choose to use 1920 x 1080 on my screen, and display the sapgui as full screen, I should be able to fill the screen with SAP data.
    > That's the way, nearly all Windows apps  do work !
Native Windows applications - yes - I agree. But if you look at websites, you'll see that they are "optimized" for some special screen resolution (mostly 1024 x 768). And we still buy many laptops and netbooks with that max. resolution. Of course, it would be nice to have a choice
    > We get a lot od complaints from our users because of the lack of ergonomy od SAP R/3 or ECC 6 standard transactions. We have, more and more, to develop BSP web applications as a workaround to this problem. On our production ECC6 system we now consume more HTTP and RFC steps than dialog steps...
Sounds interesting I'd love to see how you built MD04 or a VA01/VA02/VA03 in BSP/Web - seriously. Our users complain always that the web applications "feel" to slow, a click and you have to wait a second or more, if you need to enter a huge amount of data each day it's just too slow - by design.
    > I tried the SAP Signature Design as I happen to use SAPGUI 7.0 pl 12. The look is nice but it is just a gadget. We won't even show its existence to our users.
We did - and the users liked it although it's "just" a theme on top. Most complains came because it's no more possible to change colors and if you work with a dozen systems it's a bit difficult/cumbersome to distinguish between the windows
    > It reminds me about the "Enjoy SAP" Gimmick. Users were already asking for ergonomy and SAP painted the screens from grey to blue....
True. Without education/classes nobody is able to enter an order in VA01 correctly
    > I do understand that with dynpro/sapgui technology, this problem is very difficult to overcome.
    You could use GuiXT

  • SAP By Design and Google Integration

    Hi,
We are planning to integrate SAP By Design with Google, which allows not only Google docs integration but the complete Google integration including Gmail, Calender, Google Apps etc., Could you please point us in the right direction on this? Any documentation on this is much appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Deepthi

    Hi All,
Can some one please let me know if someone has tried to achieve this through API's or was able to integrate it in any other way? I have seen SAP BYD has API's which enables us to connect external applications to SAP system.

  • In CIC, SAP_logo.gif  for skin type Signature Design and other skins

    Hello Experts,
In Customer Interaction Cente, i have change the SAP_logo.gif to our customer logo in BSP Application "CRMCMP_IC_FRAME",
    MIMEs->images->branding->SAP_logo.gif.
However as we are aware, changes are reflected only for DEFAULT skin type.
How can we make it work for other skins ? We are currently using Signature Design skin
    Thanks, Sree

    Hi Sree
You are in the right place.
What you have done is apply the branding change to the Default Skin.
You need to apply to the individual skin you are using which is called "Nova / Signature"
Now in SE80 for the same component expand the in MIMES -> Style Sheets -> Broadcast -> ContextArea -> Nova -> _Images -> IC
Replace the SAP_Logo.gif as you did for the default

  • Making New Signature Design the default

Good afternoon - I have installed a SAPGui 7.10 Compilation 3 Installation Server and I have installed the SAPGui on a frontend machine. It seems that you have to manually choose the SAP Signature Design in TweakGui before this becomes the default on that machine. I would like to be able to make this the default theme after installation so that users don't have to manually choose it. It there an .ini file or a registry setting where this is recorded so that I could push out this setting or set it during the install/update of the SAPGui?
    Your assistance is appreciated!
    Regards,
    Blair Towe

Should be stored in HKLM (or HKCU) \Software\SAP\General\Appearance\UseSMCRendering with a value of 1.
Try note 1233328.  Look under the "How to centrally activate "SAP Signature Design" section.  It talks about writing a Script Event to add the registry key to your install package.

  • New Signature Design = Fast?

Should the new signature design delivered in patch 11 also cause a speed boost?  I don't have hard benchmark numbers before and after, but the GUI just feels more responsive on my machine after apply the patch and switching themes.
It could just be my development system is having a good day, but I'm just impressed at how quick the GUI comes back with app server responses.
    Take care,
    Stephen

    Hi all,
as one of our tests we perform for each patch / compilation of SAP GUI for Windows we measure the performance (focus is on CPU utilization, memory consumption and used GDI objects). For SAP Signature Design we have measured the performance a number of times and have compared this to Enjoy.
During the early stages of SAP Signature Design development we have seen a big difference between Enjoy and SAP Signature Design: SAP Signature Design consumed a lot more than Enjoy.
Through various cycles of improvement and optimization we have managed to reduce the difference between Enjoy and SAP Signature Design to the values mentioned in SAP note 26417:
"When SAP Signature Design is activated SAP GUI uses about 12MB
additional memory and the CPU utilization by SAP GUI increases to
between 140% and 175% of the utilization when using Enjoy."
The 12MB are caused by additional lilbraries which have to loaded when SAP Signature Design is active. This additional amount of memory is not used per session, but only once for all sessions.
Therefore this should not be a big issue unless you are using Terminal Servers (on a WTS this may be an issue since many users on the same hardware will need the additional 12MB).
The additional CPU utilization is required for the different drawing mechanisms (e.g. the shadows) and we currently see no way to further significantly improve this.
    To answer your original question:
Even though SAP Signature Design is looking faster than Enjoy, it is not. I think the modern optical impression of the new design helps to make it look faster and on modern PCs we do not expect any significant performance issues. Therefore you probably have the "feeling" that it is faster (and this is great since the impression of the end user is very important, too).
I hope that helps to answer the question.

    hi all,
I"m using the "Network Sap Setup Administration" to push SAPGUI and other front-end tools to users. However I'd like to push the SAPGUI for Windows with the new SAP signature design., Is there a way to do that?

how long did you wait for an answer from the backend?
I have waited few minutes. It does not take more than a sec. If i use different themes.

  • Difference between Classic, Enjoy and Signature design

    Hi guys,
We are about to install SAP GUI version 720 for accessing SAP GL on ECC6 (NW7.01) and are looking into the desktop requirememnts in terms of CPU, Memory etc.
The various SAP notes mention that there will be a different requirement depending on whetter you activate the Classic, the Enjoy or the Signature design.
Can anyone explain what the difference between these actually is? All we want to do is use the SAP GUI for journal entry/change, basic reporting and workflow tasks.
    Many thanks

    My apologies.
I cannot speak for SAP's reasons as I do not work for them, however, the difference here which we have encountered is just the choice for users to make it more aesthetically pleasing.  There are no items/options/buttons which are missing due to the theme selection. (At least that we have heard or come across)  It is more of a personal choice.  I do not use the signature design personally but many users have adopted the new theme.  We have about 20-30 thousand users of SAP gui and just have a document posted on how to change the theme if they do not like the SAP Signature one as it was the default when rolled out.
Multiple options just gives the users more choices to find something which they may like better than forcing the default on everyone.  I would look at it more like Microsoft Windows themes.  Gives options to users for going with the new Windows 7 theme, revert to the old Vista look or all the way back to XP, etc.

  • How to design and develop Cost center with SAP BPC 5.1 ?

    Hi all,
Can any one tell me how to design and develop cost center planning (what are the steps to follow) using SAP BPC 5.1?
    Thanks,
    Sandy

    Hi Sandeep,
1:We need to look at whether cost center planning is tied to a profit center level and/or to a company code level
2:We could have dimensions like Account(which in this case would reflect cost element),category, entity, time with additional dimension s like profit center(cost centers can have a direct mapping to profit center, usage of properties would help in here),WBS ,projects, investment position id's etc.
3:We could look at different applications like HR(pay roll related expenses),admin, capex(to bring in depreciation values) etc to bring in data to pull in data to different cost centers either directly or via script logic(usage of destination_app)
4:For those values not tied up to profit centers ,we would look at allocating/distributing the expenses to different cost elements
5:We need to decide whether we do the planning on a monthly/periodic vs yearly level where in we would look at actual values and incrementing at a certain % to fill in as the base for our planning(using category=actual/plan plus timeperiods). We could look at Top down vs botton up approach as well to segregate the planned costs
6:Consideration should be made at security level to identify/restrict different users who needs to access specific cost centers
Yes,this is just a small jist of structure, there are 100's of other considerations which would come into picture from a business requirement level.

  • Replace SAP logo in status line in the new Signature Design (SAPgui 7.10)

    Hello,
with SAPgui 7.10 there is a new desing available, the Signature Design. Recently a customer asked me, if it is possible to replace the small SAP logo in the middle of the status line (at the bottom of the SAP window) with another image.
I don't know this, has anyone an answer for me?

    I doubt so (although I don´t know 100 %).
The bottom SAP image has the same functionality as before in the right upper corner (you can doubleclick it to send support messages to SolMan system). You couldn´t change the right upper corner image.

  • Portal Port to Publish in Portal via Query Designer and Web Application

    Hello Gurus,
Recently we change the port from 50000 to 80 to do federated portal connection more transparent.
After this change I open for example the web application designer and open a web template and try to execute it.
This action pop up the web browser to show the web template, but there is a problem, the web application designer still openning the web template with the 50000 port.
    The question is:
Where I change the port used for BEx Web Applications to execute the web templates or the BEx Web querys?
    thansk for your help.

  • SAP-JEE, SAP_BUILDT, and SAP_JTECHS and Dev Configuration questions

    Hi experts,
I am configuring NWDI for our environment and have a few questions that I'm trying to get my arms around.
I've read we need to check-in SAP-JEE, SAP_BUILDT, and SAP_JTECHS as required components, but I'm confused on the whole check-in vs. import thing.
I placed the 3 files in the correct OS directory and checked them in via the check-in tab on CMS.   Next, the files show up in the import queue for the DEV tab.  My questions are what do I do next?
    1.  Do I import them into DEV?  If so, what is this actually doing?  Is it importing into the actual runtime system (i.e. DEV checkbox and parameters as defined in the landscape configurator for this track)? Or is just importing the file into the DEV buildspace of NWDI system?
    2.  Same question goes for the Consolidation tab.    Do I import them in here as well?
    3.  Do I need to import them into the QA and Prod systems too?  Or do I remove them from the queue?
    Development Configuration questions ***
    4. When I download the development configuration, I can select DEV or CON workspace.  What is the difference?  Does DEV point to the sandbox (or central development) runtime system and CONS points to the configuration runtime system as defined in the landscape configurator?  Or is this the DEV an CON workspace/buildspace of the NWDI sytem.
    5.  Does the selection here dictate the starting point for the development?  What is an example scenarios when I would choose DEV vs. CON?
    6.  I have heard about the concept of a maintenance track and a development track.  What is the difference and how do they differ from a setup perspective?   When would a Developer pick one over the over?
    Thanks for any advice
    -Dave

    Hi David,
"Check-In" makes SCA known to CMS, "import" will import the content of the SCAs into CBS/DTR.
    1. Yes. For these three SCAs specifically (they only contain buildarchives, no sources, no deployarchives) the build archives are imported into the dev buildspace on CBS. If the SCAs contain deployarchives and you have a runtime system configured for the dev system then those deployarchives should get deployed onto the runtime system.
    2. Have you seen /people/marion.schlotte/blog/2006/03/30/best-practices-for-nwdi-track-design-for-ongoing-development ? Sooner or later you will want to.
    3. Should be answered indirectly.
    4. Dev/Cons correspond to the Dev/Consolidation system in CMS. For each developed SC you have 2 systems with 2 workspaces in DTR for each (inactive/active)
    5. You should use dev. I would only use cons for corrections if they can't be done in dev and transported. Note that you will get conflicts in DTR if you do parallel changes in dev and cons.
    6. See link in No.2 ?

    Marc
