SAP SM architecture (detailed information)

using solution manager 4.0
need help finding detailed information regarding Solution Manager architecture. the documentation out on <a href="http://help.sap.com">SAP Help</a> and <a href="http://www.sdn.sap.com">SAP portal Help</a> is too high level (often simply configuration steps rather than logical description behind key concepts).
not concerned if people tip me off on books through amazon or blogs online or whatever but need to find the following info rather quickly:
a) regardless of system type (Java/ABAP) my understanding is that the SAP system is defined through Solution Manager. a SAP system (again my translation) is logically associated with a particular lifecycle stage (development/test/production). looking for detailed definitions of SAP systems, client instances (0-998 possible per system), and the types of configuration/data associated with clients.
b) transport mechanism in relation to SAP systems and clients within a SAP system
c) calculations as to how many SAP system per machine are possible in regard to the type of application hosted

Here are the details
 Cannot add additional approver
 We are now on SRM 5.5 and a document attached shows the
 patch levels
 from SPAM.
 In shop transaction, it is possible to change the
 default approvers,
 but not possible to Add.
 When we add, the system shows the list of available
 approvers, allows
 selection, but "transfer" button does not actually
 transfer.
 When the cart is saved, the added approval shows as "no
 approval
 available".
 We are using the standard workflows for 2 step approval.
 A document is attached to show what happens and the
 results of checks
 we have performed.
 BUS2121 also shows as ok when checked.
Any pointers what could be possible reasons.

customer exits. Using transaction SMOD you can see which customer exits SAP provides. Using transaction CMODyou can see the enhancement projects which make use of these SAP enhancements.

In this routine you can see the most up-to-date version of customer exits:
BAdIs (Business AddIns). Inbetween SAP has developed BTEs(transaction FIBF) which are basically dynamically called function modules.

I Need detail information about Data Cleanse Transform.
1. what is Local Cleansing Packages?
2. what are Directories and Dictioneries.
3. Data Cleanse Transform INPUT , OPTIONS, OUTPUT tabs and usage.
4. Details on Transform Input Field name in Data Cleanse INPUT tab.
5. What is PARENT_COMPONENT,FILED_NAME,FIELD_CLASS,CONTENT_TYPE in Data Cleanse OUT POT TAB.
I tried using "EnglishNorthAmericaDataCleanse" transform with NAME_OR_FIRM_LINE1. When I ran the job I got below warning message and my job was success full nut status it shown as failed.
Warning message:
"Trasform Data Cleanse is unable to retrieve cleansing packages from Cleansing Package Builder. Only local cleansing packages are available. Info: Unable to log on: Could not connect to server d184932040.sng1.attens.net:6400. Please check that the server name is correct, and that the server is running. "
Please make me understand, why did I get above message.

Cleansing package is a reference file that contains content and rules around person, firm, title, phone data and so on. Cleansing package used to be referred to as dictionaries. Directories are usually referred to address reference data or address directories. The input, output and option tabs are similar to other Data Quality transforms. For detail information on what each of the input fields and output fields are and how the options work can be found in the Data Services’ Designer Guide (http://help.sap.com/bods).
The warning message you are getting is stating that Data Services is not able to connect to the server to check to see if you have made modifications to the PERSON_FIRM cleansing package. You are not required to make any changes to the PERSON_FIRM cleansing package, but can change rules or content based on your organizational rules. If you want to make changes you will need to install SAP Information Steward. If you would like to install SAP Information Steward you can find documentation for installation on the Help Portal, http://help.sap.com/bods, along with some great Videos.

No, we are not expected to run depreciation in 2007. The first depreciation run will happen in Jan-08
Additional information, when I am trying to close period via AJAB, the error says "The fiscal year 2007 is already closed for company code 1417. It is not necessary to perform a year-end closing". Surprisingly, it still showing 2007 as a current year.

Now i would like to show detailed information to a selected user in a separate window when clicking on the user in the list. How can i call this Detail iView from within my JspDynPage.

I have a quick and easy way. Just create a hyperlink in your JSPpage for each user that begins:
/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.businesscard?UserId=
For example, if my userid was mhockings, the url to see my 'business card' would be:
/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.businesscard?UserId=mhockings

Build a project report with detail information

Hi,
I want to build a project report in BW and am not sure if my idea is feasable....
The report should consist of two parts:
the head part consists detailed information about a project like ID, status, owner, start date.
The body part contains information about a key figure 'worked hours' drilled down by department and drilled through by calendar month.
I am completely free where I want to store the data to have it available in the report. My idea was to store project head information in an ODS and to store the key figure 'worked hours' in a cube with the characteristics project, month and department.
What would be the best way now to build a report on these information. As far as I know, a normal query is always used to show key figures, but not detailed information of a project. How can I report the information that I want to show in the report header?

What is the source of the data coming?
if you are using a custom report and if u thinking data is not huge.. keep every thing in one ODS and drag in the reports of the required fields..

How to Separate Existence Check / Details Information in an HGrid

I need to display an HGrid that represents an employee hierarchy. In addition to the hierarchy I need to display columns in the HGrid result table that query data from tables outside of the tables that define the recursive hierarchy.
I was able to get my HGrid to work with all the specified columns but to do so I integrated the information from those additional tables into my HGrid view objects.
Unfortunately this is making my HGrid very slow to load initially because of the repeated queries (one for existence and one for retrieval of data) on the HGrid view objects and the queries against my additional tables are relatively intensive.
Is there anyway to setup an HGrid such that you can define a view object and requisite view links to support defining the hierarchy and then a view object/link to support going after the detailed information such that the detailed query only executes once for each node? If so, how would I do that?
