SAP SSM Standard vs SAP SSM Enterprise

Hi Everyone,
We would like to utilize SAP Strategy Management, however, we are still in the process of reviewing the functionality. Right now we are tangled between SSM Standard and SSM Enterprise. Can anyone give us an idea what's the difference between the two? And we were advised that SSM Enterprise has integration templates available; how can we get those templates? In a cost standpoint, what will be the recommended of the two?
Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts on this.
PS. Were can we get a detailed documentation of the functionality of the two.
Rally

Rally,
SSM uses Contexts as a way of cascading strategy throughout an organization. Each Context within SSM can have different goal diagrams as well as having more specific objectives. Think of a Context as how an organization looks at their business. A Context can be regions, it can be functional areas - finance, HR, manufacturing, marketing, etc., it can be lines of business - gas delivery, electrical delivery, customer service, or combinations of those.
Since individual users are accessing SSM, the administrator could designate which Contexts they have access to. That way the Southeast Region's salespeople could see their objectives and KPIs for the Southeast, but for no other region. A sales manager could have access to several of the regions they were responsible for.
A multidimensional Model is associated with Contexts and it, as well, can be used to provide the appropriate data and metrics for users. A Model is what is constructed to define the type of data, its dimensions, measures, and KPIs.
As far as functionality and features goes, there is no difference between Edge and Enterprise. Edge has all of the same tabs available: Home, Strategy, Scorecards, Dashboards, Initiatives, and Reports. It allows Operational Reviews, Comments, Alerts, and the same individual perference settings as Enterprise. The limitations for Edge should still meet the needs of small or medium sized organizations.
EPM is the suite of applications of which SSM is a part. For the difference between 7.0 and 7.5, each of the individual products will have their own enhancements as well as additional integration with other products in the suite. The 7.5 versions of EPM products are still in the Ramp Up process, while I believe the 7.0 versions are in general availability. SSM is available as an individual application or can be purchased as part of the EPM suite.

Bob

  • New LinkId with "SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise" database type. Did anybody have such experience?

In PAS tool, when creating a new LinkId, in the drop-down choice with database types there is an option to choose "SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise". What does it mean to have such a source?
If I choose this option, will I be able to refer to SAP BusinessObjects universe objects? Or how this is different from typical dabase as source?

Hi, the BOE LinkID option is no longer supported in SSM 10 and 10.1. Please refer to SAP note 2021613.

  • What is SAP ESB (Enterprise Service Bus)?

Hi fellow sdners gurus…  I have been reading threads about SAP SOA and ESB.
I do not want to start a debate on wether XI is an ESB, but more of a statement to what is SAP ESB (if XI it is, then be it).
    1) What is SAP ESB (Enterprise Service Bus) today (I could not find a clear answer to is)?
    2) Who uses this SAP ESB in production currently and what kind of environment (i.e. strictly SAP backend systems, or combination of various vendors’ backend systems)?
Can someone share some light on this topic?
As a reminder, an ESB is expected to exhibit the following characteristics (source Wikipedia):
    •     It is usually operating-system and programming-language agnostic; for example, it should enable interoperability between Java and .NET applications.
    •     It uses XML (eXtensible Markup Language) as the standard communication language.
    •     It supports web-services standards.
    •     It supports various MEPs (Message Exchange Patterns) (e.g., synchronous request/response, asynchronous request/response, send-and-forget, publish/subscribe).
    •     It includes adapters for supporting integration with legacy systems, possibly based on standards such as JCA
    •     It includes a standardized security model to authorize, authenticate and audit use of the ESB.
    •     To facilitate the transformation of data formats and values, it includes transformation services (often via XSLT or XQuery) between the format of the sending application and the receiving application.
    •     It includes validation against schemas for sending and receiving messages.
    •     It can uniformly apply business rules, enriching messages from other sources, the splitting and combining of multiple messages and the handling of exceptions.
    •     It can provide a unified abstraction across multiple layers
    •     It can route or transform messages conditionally, based on a non-centralized policy (i.e. no central rules-engine needs to be present).
    •     It is monitored for various SLA (Service Level Agreement) threshold message latencies and other SLA characteristics.
    •     It (often) facilitates "service classes," responding appropriately to higher and lower priority users.
    •     It supports queuing, holding messages if applications are temporarily unavailable.
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards,
    Jean-Michel

  • Error: There was a problem logging on to SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise

I am trying to use Crystal Reports Enterprise XI 4.0 with BusinessObjects Enterprise 4.0 using a Bex Query on an SAP NetWeaver 7.01 SPS 9 BW system. I have been using the SAP Press book u201CIntegrating SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.x with SAP NetWeaveru201D as my guide, attempting to follow it step by step. Please bear with me as I have only started working with this set of products within the last month. (Very new at this and do not have a very good grounding of the way it all works together. Trying to learn as quickly as possible as I am expected to support this set of tools for our developers / users.)
I have been trying to follow along with the book to get everything connected. At this point, I have BOE set up to attach to the SAP NetWeaver BW system. I have created a test Bex Query on the BW system. From within BOE, using CMC, I can configure the Bex Query as an OLAP connection. I have set it up for SSO. I have also exchanged certificates between the BOE and the SAP NetWeaver systems which I believe will allow the exchange of tokens.
I then go into Crystal Reports for Enterprise XI 4.0 on my PC. (I am running Windows 7 64-bit on the PC. I installed the BOE 4.0 suite of client tools except for SAP BO Live Office and SAP BO Analysis for MS Office). I can attach to my BOE system and can browse to see the OLAP connections in the BOE. I then try to select one as the data source for a new report. I then get a pop-up window stating:
       Unable to Logon
There was a problem logging on to SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise.
Please check your logon credentials and make sure your network is properly configured before trying again. If the problem
           persists please contact your Administrator.
I cannot find a log / trace / error file on my PC, the BOE system or the BW system to indicate any additional information as to what the root problem is. Has anyone seen a similar error and might know where I can find more information, how to increase trace levels so that I get some additional information or provide hints as to what the root problem might be?
I am also trying to figure out how the authentication works between the PC, BOE and SAP NetWeaver. If using a token, there has to be consistency with the username (or some value) and I am not certain that is happening. Right now, my BOE sources its UME from the SAP NetWeaver BW system. So its user accounts are in the form SID123/ACCOUNT where SID is the SID of the SAP NetWeaver system and the string u201C123u201D is the client on that SID. When I log into the BOE system from within Crystal Reports, I am using the account in that format whereas the account on the SAP NetWeaver BW system in actuality is only the string ACCOUNT. So is the token stripping the string u201CSID123/u201D from the account name when it is sent so that the accounts match? Or do I have to manually configure some kind of account alias (in the BOE system?) so that the two recognize each other? Or something else?
Any hints or ideas around where I can find additional information or where I have gone wrong, would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank-you in advance,
    Deb Nugent.

    Henry,
Many thanks and excellent suggestions. But I am still not able to get this to work and (once again) am stuck.
RE: Server Connections: When I check my server connection, I have not ticked SSL and am using the non-secure server port for my BOE system. When I click on u201CTest connectionu201D, I can successfully log in using my username / password on the SAP NetWeaver BW system. If I tick the SSL box without changing the port, I get the error message u201CFailed to establish a connection. The cause was u201CCannot connect to SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise at this time. Please try again later.u201D If I tick the SSL box and change the port to use the secure server port for the BOE system, I get the same error.
RE: Preferences: I am using the default settings under Preferences -> Network Settings. We do not manually configure proxy settings on our network so I have ticked u201CUse system proxy configurationu201D and under SSL settings, have ticked u201CUse system keystore / trust storeu201D. I have swapped keys between the BOE system and the SAP NetWeaver system but I have not swapped any keys between my PC and the BOE system or the SAP NetWeaver system (which I do not expect to do but am mentioning here in case I am wrong).
RE: BILaunchPad: I do not have any references for BILaunchPad. Is this u201CWeb Intelligence Rich Clientu201D? If so, I tried starting it, it reported an error: u201CAn error occurred at session creation.u201D Details showed u201CSSL mode is being requested but the following argument(s) are not present: passphrase (FWM 01012)u201D I went into the CMC and checked my SAP connections under Authentications. On the tab u201COptionsu201D, there is the section u201CSAP SSO Serviceu201D where I typed in the KeyStore password. When I created the key store file, I only specified a keystore password and did not specify a private key. Originally, I had it set with the private key blank with the correct password on the keystore. I also tried entering the same password as the private keystore and saving it. I verified that the connection services for Web Intelligence had restarted but I still am getting that same message when I try to start the Web Intelligence Rich Client.
At OS level on the BOE server, I logged in as my boe1 account and checked the parameters that can be entered for the PKCS12Tool.jar file that I used to create the ketstore file I had used. There does not appear to be an option for anything other than the keystore password. There is no private key password field listed.
I searched for the FWM 01012 error and found the HTML and PDF help files form SAP explaining errors. However, it only states u201CEnsure that all SSL arguments are presentu201D but gives no details as to what, exactly needs to be checked.
I will be talking with co-workers today to see if any of them can make sense of this (anoterh set of eyes sometimes helps). Any other suggestions about areas to look for addiitonal details / increased traces / logs?
    Deb Nugent.

  • Authentication error when creating EPM Add-in connection with SAP BO Enterprise connection type

    Hello, Experts,
I have a problem with creation of EPM Add-in connection when SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise connection type is selected.
An error message is "Error while communicating with the server. Framework message: Authorization failed."
Here are the steps that were implemented and how this issue was reproduced:
SAP BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation 10.0 SP12 for Microsoft was installed and configured.
Integration between SAP BPC and SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.1 SP02 was implemented. SAP BO users can successfully connect to SAP BPC system.
EPM connector was successfully installed and deployed in SAP BusinessObjects BI server.
BPC ODBO 2.0 SP04 64BIT was installed in SAP BusinessObjects server.
EPM connection was successfully created in SAP BusinessObjects CMC.
EPM Add-in and BPC ODBO 2.0 SP04 32BIT was installed in another computer (let's call it CLIENT) which has MS Office 2007 32BIT installed.
From CLIENT computer we have launched Excel manually and successfully created BPC connection with Connection Type - Local.
Then we have logged into BI Launch Pad and launched New / EPM document (Excel). Excel has started.
In EPM Add-in we have pressed Logon.
In connection window selected SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise connection type.
An error "Error while communicating with the server. Framework message: Authorization failed." appears.
Before this error appears we are not getting any window where we could select EPM connection (created in CMC) nor the possibility to enter username or password.
Looking forward you valuable comments and suggestions.
    Thank you in advance.
    Donatas Budrys

    Dear, Roberto,
Our user has Full Access to all BPC tasks and it is administrator in BI system.
Also we can successfully connect with the same user using Connection type "Local".
We had done some investigation and in the BPC SQL Server trace log we can catch the following message when an error occurs:
    ==============[System Error Tracing]==============
[System  Name] : BPCXMLAService [Message Type] : ErrorMessage [Job Name]    : ValidateUser [DateTime]    : 04/23/2014 10:58:06 [UserId]      : [Exception]    DetailMsg  : {System.Exception: Invalid user    at SAP.BPC.Services.Webservice.XMLAService.XMLAService.ValidateUser()} ==============[System Error Tracing  End ]==============
It is very interesting that after the EPM workbook is launched via BI Launch Pad till an error occurs we are NOT provided with possibility to enter any username and password. So the EPM add-in should use the same user which was logged into BI Launch Pad - in our case the user with administrative rights both in BI Launch Pad and BPC systems. Am I missing anything?
    Looking forward your feedback.
    Thank you in advance.
    Best regards,
    Donatas

  • What is the difference between ERP2004 and SAP 47 Enterprise?

Currently we have SAP 47 Enterprise with WAS 6.2. I understand ERP2004 is NW and 6.4 sp9. Can any one please let me know the major difference between ERP2004 and SAP 4.7 Enterprise ( more from abap / workflow view)?
    Thanks

From Abap point of view some of the major add-on in erp2004,netwever :
    1) Development of webdynpro studio for java development for portal and iviews.
    2) Major abap development uses <b>Abap object oriented</b> methodology, rathet hten old conventional Abap,i.e MVC model (Model,View,Controller) where in it uses concept of classes, interfaces, etc.
    3) Advanced BSP tech using MVC model to develop web based modules
    4) It is closesly integrated with web-based CRM and BW/APO

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express for SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise 4.0

    Hi Expert,
I'm going to install SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise 4.0 on my virtualized system (vmware) composed as: windows server 2008 Enterprise Edition R2 + Tomcat. I have some doubts related to the DB version to choose.
Due to the fact that Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express is bundled with SAP BOE 4.0 I want to use this DB.
However, I saw in the Microsoft Portal that Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express (http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/en/us/product-info/compare.aspx)  that:
    Number of CPUs     1
    Maximum memory utilized     1 GB
    Maximum database size     10 GB
    These my doubts:
    1) Could these characteristics  generate performance issues for a production environment?
    2) Which is a typical DB size for a production enviroment? could be greater then 10 GB?
    3) Can I use Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express  in a virtualized system (vmware)?
    Thanks in advance for collabortion
    regards
    gio'

    Hi Gio
Remember that the BOE system database (or repository) only has a few tables in it, with really one main table that stores a reference to each folder, report, user, group, server, etc. on the system. So the table and the database itself do not grow very large. In the past year, we have done over 70 SAP BusinessObjects projects and I can't recall one where the database size would even approach 5GB in total, let alone 10GB.
The reason for this is that the database only stores a reference to the physical objects and content within BOE-- the actual reports, universes, etc. are stored on the file system within the Input and Output file repository folders.
And the memory constraints are not really an issue either with BOE-- the database itself does not come under much strain during the day-to-day operation of the server. If you believe that the memory may be an issue, you can always start with SQL Server 2008 Express and then using the new tools in the 4.0 CMC to monitor the memory usage on the server. If you need to, you can move the system database to another SQL Server edition, or alternately move the database to another one of the supported platforms, including Oracle, DB2, etc.
    Hope this helps!
    regards
    David

  • Usefulness of the SAP Netweaver Enterprise Search

I posted this question in the SAP Netweaver Enterprise Search forum and got no response, so I moved it to the ABAP General forum, where I got a little help, but not exactly what I'm looking for, so as a last attempt, I'm moving it here:
We are upgrading from 4.7 to ECC 6.0 and as part of the upgrade are considering implementing the Netweaver Search Engine. Most of the information I have found is from SAP and deals mainly with implementation. I’m interested if you have implemented this and if so what benefits you have found and also any problems you have encountered.
There's a lot of tecnical information out there, but the question I need to answer is about how it helps (if at all) the business process.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
    Rob

I attended a session at TechEd about how Whirlpool implemented the Enterprise Search Appliance (I assume it is that you are talking about).  From what I saw it looked quite good.  They seemed to think that the biggest gain was the linking of things.  E.g if you search for a customer and select it, you have links to see their sales record / credit checks etc.
But I'm afraid I haven't done any implementations myself.

  • Hardware Requirements - SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise Integration Kit

    Experts,
We are going to prototype Xcelsius and Analysis on SAP BI data. For this reason we are going to implement the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise Integration Kit. As in we are getting a trial version from SAP. We have built a SAP BI Client 7 with ehancement pack 1 SP6 on a AIX server.
Do you know whether we need addiotional hardware to install the BO software. I presume one needs an application server of some sort? What is best practice in this, machine wise, operating system etc?
Though there is a lot of documentation availbale on the web, I cant find a simple server architecture.
I am useing the following documents as a guide, it says BO 3.0 but also relevant for 3.1 I presume?
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/a00ee3b2-5283-2b10-f1bf-8c6413e0898f?quicklink=index&overridelayout=true
It would be great if you could answer the questions above! Cheers.
    Thanks, GruttePier

    Hi,
the portal runs on a server. What is wrong? I have done everything exactly as documented.

  • How to create (or invite) new users in SAP JAM Enterprise edition?

Our client has just purchased SAP Jam Enterprise as they want to integrate it with SAP Cloud for Customers (collaboration on service ticket resolution across departments).
I have just logged in with the administrator account to what appears to be a SuccessFactors homepage. I can see how to get to Jam or to the Admin console. But there is no obvious way of creating new users so we can start running demos with the client.
The JAM administrator guide does not seem to explain how to do that ???
Does anybody have a quick tutorial on this topic?
    Cheers

    Hi Thierry,
there are two guides which help you through the basic steps:
At http://service.sap.com/rds-cfc-erp you can find a guide which describes the basic steps to configure SuccessFactors Platform including user management as a base. The document is part of a ZIP available in service market place and is called "Setting up SAP Jam for Integration with other SAP Solutions".
Please be aware that this guide just covers the minimum steps. For a complete introduction we strongly recommend to register for the SAP Jam Academy and SuccessFactors Academy course available for partners.
In addition there is the INTEGRATION: SAP Cloud for Customer + SAP Jam Guide available in servcice market place describing the actual configuraiton steps required for Jam/C4C integration: https://websmp206.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/012002523100002165402015E/1502_Config_CRM_HCI_COD.pdf
    Hope this helps,

  • New monitoring tool for SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 SP2 & higher

Did you know that there is a new monitoring tool available for SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1?
It produces reports that summarise the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise system landscape and its configuration, helps out with troubleshooting issues and points out areas of concern.
It also delivers a lot of help with troubleshooting issues via Wily Introscope monitoring dashboards, an 'investigator' and transaction tracing.
You can read more about it in this blog: /people/miles.escow/blog/2010/12/01/remote-support-component

  • SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search fails to install on VMWare

    Hello,
i try to install SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search 7.2 from
    SLES-10-SP3-SAP-APL-x86_64-GM-DVD1.iso with VMWare Player.
The installation fails at point where i have to choose the location of SAP NetWeaver  Enterprise Search.
Here are several options for device://, nfs://, ftp://, usb://, etc.
Because of VMWare i am not sure if i can select them.
    1. Is it a must to select at this point of installation the NW ES 7.2? can i do it later on?
    2. Why do i have to choose SLES 10 at this point? must i do this?
    best regards,
    Eduard

    Hi Eduard,
    regarding your both questions:
    1. Is it a must to select at this point of installation the NW ES 7.2? can i do it later on?
The easiest way is to select the installation path of the source files of NWES at this point.
But you can do it as well later but you have to adjust by your own the installation config file "config.dat". This config file is needed by the appliance installer of NWES 7.2
    2. Why do i have to choose SLES 10 at this point? must i do this?
Yes. You have to choose SLES 10. This is the only operation systems which is supported by NWES.
    Best regards
    Frank

    Check
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/nw-search
--> SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search - Details.
Starting on page 75 you'll see that it's an appliance (not a piece of software to install).
