FAQ - The Future of SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence in the Light of the NetWeaver BI&Business Objects Roadmap [original link is broken]
What is SAPu2019s future offering for the data warehouse?
SAP NetWeaver BI provides a complete BI solution including a sophisticated modeling environment, industrial strengths for data provisioning and dissemination, and an enterprise-ready solution for handling business intelligence. SAP NetWeaver BI thus offers an efficient approach for dealing with BI, giving enterprises the opportunity to standadrize on one technology that runs their transactional and information environment.
But there are still a number of pain points for the customer. The main ones are:
How can the costs for BI be cut while maintaining a competitive edge?
u2022  Standardization provides an option for cost cutting but seems to require compromises in capabilities as no BI vendor covers the entire process.
How can broader user acceptance of Business Intelligence be achieved?
u2022  While BI tools have become more user friendly, complex data models and user interfaces still alienate our user base.
How can more resources be freed for innovation projects?
u2022  Facing an ever increasing amount of data, a growing user community, and constant change in business, the pure keep-alive work on our BI systems is consuming all available resources.
How can even more accuracy and accountability of derived information be ensured?
u2022  Tapping into data from enterprise applications is challenging, as different BI tools use different techniques to access the data. Reports for different business areas become incomparable at best, and inconsistent at worst.
In order to address these main customer key pain points, the following 5 steps seem to be a sound and reflected strategy approach:
Managing the value chain of intelligence
Business Intelligence has to find the best way to derive corporate models from raw data.
SAP NetWeaver BI provides a rich modeling environment aligned with powerful process management, monitoring and lifecycle management capabilities. On top of this, the Data Warehouse layer allows access to all corporate data, offers artefacts to
Enabling intelligent business
Business Intelligence has to create value for the business.
SAP NetWeaver BI's analytic mart layers offer business focused information, models that meet real world scenarios offering information from history to real-time.
Optimized coverage for real world problems
Business Intelligence has to offer a realistic model for the business in order to be able to think like the business .
SAP NetWeaver BI offers analytic models supporting time dependent hierarchies, currency and unit conversions, as well as exceptional aggregations.
Integrated Planning Services
Business Intelligence has to think ahead integrating planning in one environment.
SAP NetWeaver BI's planning services provide dependency evaluation, planning functions such as distribution, simple copying, or projections, as well as features like locking, validation and write-back.
Flexibility, Flexibility, Flexibility
Business Intelligence has to access information at the speed of thought.
SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator offers a kind of turn-key solution for BI performance, breaking down the barrier between structural flexibility and performance realized by commodity hardware based appliances.
SAP NetWeaver BI is well prepared to expand its existing strength along all these dimensions in the near future - a future that has already begun.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
JituK

  • System.out.println in SAP J2EE Engine - Config Tool

    Hi everybody.
I was having problems with viewing my System.out.println sentences in my NetWeaver's J2EE applications.
It's supposed that I can't see the files because I have to assing a log archive for System.out controller in SAP J2EE Engine - Config Tool.
The problem is that I can't find the place to modify the property of that controller!
I've edited the log-configuration.xml file, but when I restart the server to reload the new configuration, the files I've added to this file, disapear.
    Any idea about this???
    Any answer is well accpeted.
    Thanks,
    Alberto.

Nobody knows something about this System.out problem??
    Thanks!

Dear. Does anyone by any chance know where to get SAP B1 System Evaluation Tools. We would like to use these to check the functionality of the system we just implemented. I believe in SAP My Business Suite and SAP All-in-one they are there.
    May you please help.

B1 is only for SME.  So your assumption may not be true.  I have never heard such tool for B1.

  • WebService call from SAP outside NetWeaver

    Hi,
can I call a webService from SAP outside NetWeaver? E.g. to call it directly from a RFC function module or other components?
    Best regards
    Nicole

    Hi,
ist it, you want to consume a web service in ABAP?
That can be done, yes. Searching exactly this on SDN brings up a lot of content like this: [Providing and Consuming Web Services in ABAP|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/30f1b585-0a01-0010-3d96-ad0ea291c4f9] from my colleague Peter Mc Nulty.

  • SAP J2EE Engine -Config Tool authentication test(LDAP only)

Hello. Can i know what causes the directory server authentication test(LDAP only) in the SAP J2EE Engine config Tool to fail to authenticate.
Error message i got was: authentication failed: Unprocessed Continuation Reference(s).
    Please advise.

    Hi,
what kind of directory server are you using?
I'm not sure but it is possible that your ds uses referrals returns a referral to your client and the client does not follow them. Do you have any referrals configured?

    thanks,

    Hi Tanmaya,
Question: How to find whether the port is blocked or not?
    (A) You can check the message server port in txn SMMS or dev_ms trace in ST11 to verify if the port is correctly set. If it is and you cannot connect to the message server then you will need to find out which program/service is occupying port 3900. So please follow the steps below:-
(A1) On Unix there is a program called LSOF available which shows ALL programs that occupies all ports. SAP Note [164937|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes/sdn_oss_bc_cst/~form/handler%7b5f4150503d3030323030363832353030303030303031393732265f4556454e543d444953504c4159265f4e4e554d3d313634393337%7d] shows were you can get this program.
(A2) On Windows the equilivent of LSOF is Process Explorer from the Sysinternals Suite. This is available on the MS website [here|http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb842062.aspx]. You can use this to filter by port.
So using these programs you will be able to see which programs occupy all ports on your server and either remove or disable them.
P.S. You can use SAP Note [421359|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes/sdn_oss_bc_cst/~form/handler%7b5f4150503d3030323030363832353030303030303031393732265f4556454e543d444953504c4159265f4e4e554d3d343231333539%7d] to bind any port to any service on Unix including "protected" ports !!!
    Hope this helps

  • SAP BO Translation Management Tool

    Hi,
I am using the SAP BO Translation Management Tool to translate our WEBI reports into French language. Most of the queries are getting translated properly and after the export to the server they are available in French language.
But I am having issues with two of those reports in which even on successfully translating the variables and exporting the same to the server the translation is not available. On opening the WEBI report again in TMT it shows that none of the variables were translated and this problem is only with the variables not with query names or prompts.
Any kind of help would be great.

    Arminder Singh
