SAP Upgrade Approach document

Hi
We are looking for a approach document in upgrading ECC 6.0 along with SAP SRM and BI.  If you have come across such document kindly share with me.
with regards,
Joseph Anand B

Log onto SAP's internal OSS system and download their methodology from there.  It has the project plans and templates you need.  You can either do it as a stand alone html or through a Solution Manager add-on.  However you must have an internal OSS ID.  If your company is an SAP customer see your IT department manager for the log on info.
Otherwise contact your local SAP representative to get the information.  Your representative or sales person will be able to get you access if your company is supported.

    Hi,
Required SAP Upgrade documents for functinal upgrade
Please me to kareemsap at Gml
    Thanks in advance
    kareem

I believe you are on Functional side. If that is the case, you only need to know whats new in ECC 6.0 compared to ECC 5.0.
A quick look at http://erp.fmpmedia.com/Default.aspx?alias=erp.fmpmedia.com/english will give you a fair idea. However, you need to read in SAP Help too before jumping on to upgrade.
An upgrade means, you need to make sure old features remain and new are added.

  • SAP upgradation ?

    hii
What will be the major work for MM consultant in SAP upgradation (4.5 to ECC 6.0).
What is the latest version of SAP??
Explain in more detail about MM consultant roles and responsibilities n SAP upgradation (4.5 to ECC 6.0).
    Thanks

Normally upgradation project is basis driven project. Basis guys will prepare the system taking into consideration of all the aspects of the system. This itself is project called upgrade. Upgrading project mostly involves testing with the existing system with the new system. SAP already released the release notes for this Upgrading ECC 6.0{example 4.6C to ECC 6.0}. (1).Functional consultant have to do unit test/Integration test/Regression test in new system based on the business process documents prepared for your present system. (2).Functional consultant mostly encounter Interface issues (If exist)/Authorization issues/Enhanced naming issues/Usage issues. (3).Example:In older version you have to do external configuration for CIN. However .In ERP 2005, It is already in built. Hence Knowledge of CIN will be more than sufficient to manage the CIN issues. (4). More over Functional consultant must be very confident in the business process. Unless you will receive many UAT issues. (5). Whenever Functional consultant do unit test and Integration test, use user id to.When you do regression testing, get the user id from user copy all the roles from the user id and create new id. Using this new id you do the Regression testing. This will avoid many problems. (6). Another Important, big issue is patch work information. For example After release of 46C, SAP released many patches for 46C.However these patches are all not updated in to your present 46C system. These patches are already in built in ECC 6.0, hence you will get diff.result when you do testing. If such a case, advices the user about the patch work, and proceed. In most of my cases, SAP enjoyed with 46C without patch scenario, but in ECC6.0 they started to complain, b'cas the new patches.

    Hi,
    Upgrade Overview
The objective on SAP Technical version upgrade would be to bring in enhanced SAP functionality while retaining the custom development in the original system. The enhanced functionality is not necessarily implemented during the upgrade. The upgraded system is tested for all the functional scenarios existing in the original system and the custom objects are tested for its functioning as in the original system.
Upgrade project consists of 5 phases:
    1.     Project Preparation
    2.     Blueprinting
    3.     Realization
    4.     Production Preparation
    5.     Go Live & Support
    ABAPer Role
    a) Syntax Correction
    b) Upgrade Correction (Replacement of obsolete statement)
    c) BDC Program correction
    d) BDC to BAPI conversion
    e) Unicode testing using UCCHECK transaction
    Functional consultant role
    Unit Testing
    Test Scripts preparations for Changes

  • SAP upgrade methodology

    Hi,
We are planning to upgrade our SAP 4.6 R/3 system to ECC 6.0.
    The system landscape is:
    DEV -
    > QA (Quality)  -
    > PRD (Production)
I would like to know which is the best approach to follow to upgrade all the 3 systems. Should we first upgrade the DEV system, then move the transports to QA and then subsequently to PRD????
    Any guidance is really appreciated.

    Raghavendra.

    Dear All,
We are upgrading SAP from R/3 4.6C  to ECC6.0 . Our client has installed DMC in 4.6C as a "Main transport" request .   DMC becomes an Add-on tool in ECC6.0 . SAP pepare phase recognize DMC is already installed in 4.6C  and required  upgrade CD 51031689.  Upgrade CD 51031689 is not available in marketplace and required an restricted access . Actually  we are not using DMC component and would not  planning to upgrade to DMC 6.0 . SAP Upgrade Prepere phase has  facility to mark as "Delete" for unwanted add-on componenets. We are able to select "delete" radio button for other Add-on compoenents  but unfortunately "IS_SELECT" phase doesn't provide me an option to select "delete" radio button .Any  help/suggestions are highly appreciated.

  • SCC4 - Protection against SAP upgrade

    Hello guys,
i have a question regarding to the "Protection against SAP upgrade" flag in SCC4 for the client settings.
I know that this flag will make a client unusable in case of an upgrade (for example from ERP2004 to ERP2005), but what is about applying support packages?
Is this flag also valid for support packages?
The documentation about this parameter does not make a statement to this point:
    > If this flag is set, the client is no longer supplied with data during SAP upgrades. After an SAP upgrade, it is not possible to work actively in the client. The flag can only be set for a test client or an SAP reference client (Early Watch).
Does SAP understand "applying support packages" as an upgrade?
    Answers will be rewarded.
    Regards
    Stefan

    No.
Applying SP is not SAP upgrade.

Initially I had downloaded Document 2 (Free) application to view my doc, ppt and xls files. I was not able to edit the files so there was an option for upgrade the Document-2 free to paid version. I have upgraded the Document 2 application. But on my iPad now there are to application present Docemnt-2 (Free) and Document-2. I am not able to open any existing document using the upgraded version of application. How do I connect all the existing txt,PPT,XLS doccument to the new upgraded Document-2 application and then to edit it on my iPad.

As suggested I had deleted the free application and did a hard restart the iPad. I have again copied the document using iTunes. But I am not able to edit any document using this app. Document 2 (paid version) supports editing features of the txt/ xls /ppt files. Is there any problem while loading the Document 2 app. If I reload then do I need to purchase again?

  • Can we do oracle 11g software installation in parallel to SAP upgrade

    Hi Basis Expert,
I need your inputs for one of this query
The query is. Can we do oracle 11g software installation in parallel to SAP upgrade when the system is in Downtime phase.
The idea is running SAP upgrade and in parallel running oracle 11g software installation. So that we can reduced the time.
    Please share your valuable inputs.
    Regards,
    Anil Shenoy.

    yes, of course.
using different environment during the installation of the new engine, you could install the new oracle home 11 also tomorrow (including the SBP).
infact, before the ./RUNINSTALLER you have to set the environment
    setenv ORACLE_HOME /oracle/SID/112_64
    setenv ORACLE_HOME_SRC /oracle/SID/102_64
    setenv ORACLE_HOME_TGT /oracle/SID/11202
    setenv  LIBPATH $ORACLE_HOME/lib:$LIBPATH
    setenv PATH /oracle/SID/112_64/bin: $PATH

  • What are the roles & responsibilites of consultant in SAP upgradation or mi

    Hello ,
Would you please any dody help me to provide the role & responsibilities of consultant in SAP upgradation or migration project.Thanks.
    Regards,
    Sampally

    Hello,
If the project is of technical up gradation then with no functionality changed, Then the job of abap consultant is critical, right from creating spdd and spau, interfaces, debug the new programs and fix the bugs if exists in the new programs. The functional consultant has to test the new system from functions point of view; functional consultant is responsible for taking user acceptance test before going on live to the new system.

  • SAP upgrade - questions for report painter and query

    Hi Experts,
I have two quwstions of SAP upgrade.
My requirement is: SAP upgrade from 4.6B to ECC 6.0 with non-unicode.
1.Does SAP upgrade influence the report painter? If influence, could you tell me what should I do for this case.
    2. We have so many queries (SQ01) in our system and many of them haven't been run for a long time. we need a tool to get the runtimes of queries in a certain durition.
For example: From 2008/01/01 to 2008/03/31,I want to know how many queries had been run/ query name/ runtimes of each query.
    Best regards,

    > 1.Does SAP upgrade influence the report painter? If influence, could you tell me what should I do for this case.
    You can check
Note 1155524 - ReportWriter: Upgrade Issues ECC6.0 -Common Customer Issues
    > 2. We have so many queries (SQ01) in our system and many of them haven't been run for a long time. we need a tool to get the runtimes of queries in a certain durition.
Such a tool was RBE (Reverse Business Engineer) - which is out of support.
You can try to get that information from ST03. If that is not enough there's no other way than booking an SLO service to find out the queries that have not been used (http://service.sap.com/slo).

  • Put Together A Data Archiving Strategy And Execute It Before Embarking On Sap Upgrade

A significant amount is invested by organizations in a SAP upgrade project. However few really know that data archiving before embarking on SAP upgrade yields significant benefits not only from a cost standpoint but also due to reduction in complexity during an upgrade. This article not only describes why this is a best practice  but also details what benefits accrue to organizations as a result of data archiving before SAP upgrade. Avaali is a specialist in the area of Enterprise Information Management.  Our consultants come with significant global experience implementing projects for the worlds largest corporations.
    Archiving before Upgrade
It is recommended to undertake archiving before upgrading your SAP system in order to reduce the volume of transaction data that is migrated to the new system. This results in shorter upgrade projects and therefore less upgrade effort and costs. More importantly production downtime and the risks associated with the upgrade will be significantly reduced. Storage cost is another important consideration: database size typically increases by 5% to 10% with each new SAP software release – and by as much as 30% if a Unicode conversion is required. Archiving reduces the overall database size, so typically no additional storage costs are incurred when upgrading.
It is also important to ensure that data in the SAP system is cleaned before your embark on an upgrade. Most organizations tend to accumulate messy and unwanted data such as old material codes, technical data and subsequent posting data. Cleaning your data beforehand smoothens the upgrade process, ensure you only have what you need in the new version and helps reduce project duration. Consider archiving or even purging if needed to achieve this. Make full use of the upgrade and enjoy a new, more powerful and leaner system with enhanced functionality that can take your business to the next level.
Archiving also yields Long-term Cost Savings
By implementing SAP Data Archiving before your upgrade project you will also put in place a long term Archiving Strategy and Policy that will help you generate on-going cost savings for your organization. In addition to moving data from the production SAP database to less costly storage devices, archived data is also compressed by a factor of five relative to the space it would take up in the production database. Compression dramatically reduces space consumption on the archive storage media and based on average customer experience, can reduce hardware requirements by as much as 80% or 90%. In addition, backup time, administration time and associated costs are cut in half. Storing data on less costly long-term storage media reduces total cost of ownership while providing users with full, transparent access to archived information.
