SAP WebDynpro  +  Adobe Flex/Flash  =  Enterprise  UI 2.0

Hi Frens...
I am Working as Consultant-SAP.I am creating static Forms using Adobelive Cycle Designer and SAP.
How Adobe Flex is useful to create Forms?
Is it usefull for me if i learn Adobeflex?
How will be the future with ADOBE FLEX?
I have seen the article SAP WebDynpro + Adobe Flex/Flash = Enterprise UI 2.0.
Working as ABAPer shall i shift to Adobe Flex?
Please Suggest me.

Yes very.

Several of us are turning to Flex for eLearning and we are finding it to be
a great tool.

I think Adobe are commiting heavily to Flex - Flex plays on any machine with
the latest Flash player , so that includes PC, Mac and Linux. AIR plays on
PC and Mac today, with a Linux version under development right now. In the
future (Open Screen Project) versions of Flex and AIR should play on mobile
devices too.

I don't really know what would be good or bad for your needs. Take a look at
some of the sample Flex and AIR apps on Adobe.com and see if you think the
features demonstrated are applicable to your needs.

  • SAP and Adobe (Flex)

    Hello ,
    I would like to know how to start working with SAP BW and Adobe  ( Flex).
    Is needed that Java Engine to be installed for the server? Is there a document how to link the 2 worlds (SAP , Adobe - Flex) ?
    I would like to know what resources are needed (license, hardware, software, settings) for this connection to work.
    The final purpose would be to try testing is a SAP BW query content could be transferred to some Adobe Flex form / layout / etc, in order for the report to look nicer, to be more user friendly , etc .
    Any help / link/ advice would be appreciated !
    Thank you in advance ,

  • Crossdomain.xml issue - Accessing SAP from adobe FLEX

    Hi All,
    We are in the process of trying to integrate 4 SAP bapis exposed as Web services from adobe flex.
    When we do so we are getting a "security error accessing URL"
    The URL of our flex application is:
    http://10.10.0.48:8081/water0305/iden.html
    The WSDL of the web service is:
    http://10.10.0.66:8001/sap/bc/srt/rfc/sap/ZKK_BAPI_EQMT_DETAIL?sap-client=800&wsdl=1.1
    We looked at various forums and we found that adding a crossdomain.xml file to the root directory
    (at the destination server) will resolve the issue.
    I did implement all those steps on the R/3 side to add a crossdomain.xml to an ABAP WAS.
    crossdomain.xml on WAS
    however i still get those errors(security error accessing URL).
    Below is the code i use to access the SAP web service
    <mx:WebService
    id="EqmtDetailWS" showBusyCursor="true" fault="Alert.show(event.fault.faultString)" >
    <mx:operation name="EqmtDetail" resultFormat="e4x" result="getEquip_result(event);" fault="getFault(event);">
    <mx:request>
    <Equipment></Equipment>
    </mx:request>
    </mx:operation>
    </mx:WebService>
    We are  displaying the SAP info on a map service provided by esri so we included the load operation here.
    <-Loading the wsdl->
    private
    function onExtentChange(event:ExtentEvent):void {
    EqmtDetailWS.wsdl=
    "http://10.10.0.66:8001/sap/bc/srt/rfc/sap/ZKK_BAPI_EQMT_DETAIL?sap-client=800&wsdl=1.1&sap-user=******&sap-password=****&sap-language=EN&~transaction=iw51";
    EqmtDetailWS.loadWSDL();
    <Displaying the info from SAP>
    private function getEquip_result(event:ResultEvent):void {
    equip_desc = event.result.Equitext.Equidescr;
    txtAreaEquipDetail.htmlText = txtAreaEquipDetail.htmlText + "Equi. Desc. : " + event.result.Equitext.Equidescr + "\n";
    var material:String=event.result.Equimaster.Material;
    SAPIDAliasEquipDesc =event.result.Equitext.Equidescr;
    material=material.substring(14,18);
    txtAreaEquipDetail.htmlText = txtAreaEquipDetail.htmlText + "Material : " + material + "\n";
    txtAreaEquipDetail.htmlText = txtAreaEquipDetail.htmlText + "Serial No : " + event.result.Equimaster.Serialno + "\n";
    var costcntr:String=event.result.Equilocation.Costcenter;
    costcntr=costcntr.substring(7,10);
    txtAreaEquipDetail.htmlText = txtAreaEquipDetail.htmlText + "Cost Center : " + costcntr + "\n";
    CustomerID = event.result.Equisales.Customer;
    This is how we load the policy file.
    Security.loadPolicyFile(
    http://10.10.0.66:8001/sap/bc/bsp/sap/zroot/crossdomain.xml);
    This works fine when we run it from the IDE but throws up an error when we deploy it on the server
    So are we missing something ?
    Is there anything else to be done to overcome the security issue ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Karthik.

    Hi Rich,
    I followed the steps in your video when our system was R/3 4.7 (WAS 6.20) and the test worked fine, i.e. accessing the crossdomain by typing http://server:port/crossdomain.xml.
    I followed the same steps with our new version (we're undergoing an upgrade) but I kept getting the error message:
    "BSP Exception: the BSP URL /crossdomain.xml Does Not Contain Any Application Entries".  Then I saw Ivan post suggesting implementing OSS Note 1260386.  I applied the Note but I got the same error message.
    Then I ran function ICFBUFFER_INIT to make sure the buffer is cleared, cleared the cache in the browser and still got the same error message.
    Our system is ERP 6.0, NetWeaver 7.0, level 17 (BASIS Component is SAPKB70017).
    Please help.  Thank you.
    Achille.

  • Flash Islands Tutorial I - Confusion with Flex/Flash Builder Versions

    Hi Guys,
    i am new to the Adobe Flex/Flash Islands technology and tried to implement Tutorial I by Thomas Jung. Unfortunately i am confused by the various different versions for flex and the corresponding IDE's.
    As far as i understood SAP at the moment only supports Flex versions up to version 3.3 for NetWeaver 7 EHP1. Furtheron the Adobe Charting Components (used in the Tutorial) seem to be part of the Flex Builder Professional Version only.
    So i went to the Adobe Website and looked into the products and download areas. All i found was Flash Builder 4.5 Premium and the various Adobe and Open Source Flex SDK versions. I am using Flash Builder 4.5 as a trial right now. Unfortunately the Charting Components are not included.
    So the question i have is whether the Charting Components (e.g. <mx:BarChart /> )are included in the non Trial version of Flash Builder 4.5 Premium or whether there is any possibility to get them as an Add-On. Or do i have to use Flex Builder 3 Professional (i found no information about this on the Adobe Website)?
    Additional Hint:
    I found out that when i compile the poject with Flex SDK vesion 3.6 or higher, the compiler knows the <mx:BarChart /> tag. Also in that case the view designer is working. However FlashIslands is only supported up to Flex SDK 3.3. But when i choose 3.3 the <mx:BarChart /> tag and some other related tags are unknown.
    This is a really anoying issue.
    Best Regards,
    Dirk

    HI Dirk,
    wtith Web Dynpro, you can only use Flex SDK version 3.3 and downwards. You can download the SDK here [http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/DownloadFlex3]
    Flash Builder ships with Flex SDK 4.5 which is not compatible with WDA flash islands.
    As for the charts library, which Adobe referes to as the Data Visualization Component, it is also available as a separate download which can be unzipped into the same directory as the Flex SDK -- the library is available here [http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=flex3sdk]
    I must say I am also confused, because as far I can tell data visualization component is not included in 3.3, but SAP makes no mention of this. Hopefully someone else can enlighten us on this issue?

    I know nothing about SAP and been given a task to look for the connection between BSP(suppose it is a module of SAP) and Adobe Flex.

  • Data connection between Java Webdynpro - Flex Flash Island

    Hi,
    I'm developing a Java Webdynpro with connection to a Flex Flash Island. I'm using Flex 3.2.
    I've already set up the connection from WDJ to Flex, by using Events and the FlashIsland.fireEvent method, this all works fine. Now I'm trying to update a value in WDJ, to be updated in Flex. This gives the following error:
    Error: Error #1023: Stack overflow occurred.

         at UWLApplication/set opentask_updated()
         at MethodInfo-4234()
    This is especially strange, cause before I had a refresh button in which I updated my entire item collection. Now, I have added this field and suddenly I get this error !
    Does anybody has any idea what this could mean? Any help would be much appreciated ...
    My field in Flex:
    \[Bindable\]
    public var opentask_updated:Number;
    <mx:Text id="opentask_updated_text" text="{opentask_updated.toString()}" />
    My adaptions in WDJ:
    public void getInbox( )  {
           wdContext.currentInboxElement().setOpentask_updated(0);
    public void wdDoInit()  {
           getInbox();

    Solved!
    It appeared to be a "long" parameter and I was trying to put it in a "Number" parameter in Flex (because there is no long in Flex)
    When I changed both to String, it worked!

    > Good to know. That kinda sounds as if the webdynpro app itself will not have to be modified at all. Does this apply to CE webdynpro only or will be NW7.0 webdynpro apps supported the same way? How's the xBCML code generated? Will the CE be an requirement?
    That is correct - the apps do not have to be modified in any way.  Web Dynpro was designed years ago with this kind of future in mind.  The application rendering is separated in layers. One of those layers is the UI rendering itself.  It was strickly designed so that we could "plug-in" new rendering engines over time.
    So what technically happens is nice bit of OO magic.  There are multiple implementations of each UI elment rendering class, but they all have the same interface.  That way the rendering engine can determine what kind of client it is building the UI for at runtime and substitute a different rendering engine by calling the correct subclass.  The first rendering engine that SAP supplied for Web Dynpro is what is called the Unified Renderer.  This is what produces the HTML and JavaScript UI that we run today in the browser.  In NW 7.0 EnhP1 ABAP and NW 7.1 CE EnhP1 we have actually rewritten this Unified Renderer completely - improving performance and adding in more AJAX functionality.  So this same plug-in rendering technology can be used to seemlessly overhaul the HTML renderer as well.
    With this plug-in rendering technology we were able to build an XML based renderer.  This XML formatted output is what we call xBCML (Extensible Business Client Markup Language).  Actually if you compare the two rendering engines it is much easier to build an XML description of the UI then it is to build HTML/JavaScript. This nice, neutral XML description of the UI elements and their properties can then be sent to the client machine over HTTP/HTTPS and interpreted by different technologies.  We use this same XML format within a Flex, Silverlight, and .Net Client Renderer.  This is how SAP has built the Flex Client, Flash Islands, Silverlight Islands, and the NetWeaver Business Client Smart Client Renderer.
    On the ABAP side of the house for Web Dynpro we are bringing all of this new rendering technology to the 7.0 release via Enhancement Packages.  The dependency of the Business Suite to run on top of NetWeaver 7.0 is a pretty much a driving factor to make sure that new Web Dynpro technology for ABAP must make it into the 7.0 code line to be effective.
    The Java side is less clear.  We have really focused future enhancements to Java Web Dynpro within the 7.1 CE codeline.  Our current plans are to deliver this functionality to WD Java via CE  (some of it is already there in CE 7.1 and some will come later with CE 7.1 EnhP1). I would be a little suprised to see a backport effort to 7.0 Java given the focus on CE.  I realize that this leaves ESS/MSS in a strange location - so if there was customer demand around that application it might be the only thing to lead to a selective backport - but I certainly can't confirm that this will happen.

    Hello,
    After installing SAP NetWeaver 7.01 - ABAP Trial Version, Enhancement Package 1, I discovered that the Adobe Flex Islands UI element is missing.
    - How/when can I play around with it and integrate Flex applications with my WebDynpro 4 ABAP applications?
    - Is Adobe Flex Islands for WebDynpro 4 ABAP demonstrated at the teched in Berlin? Which session should I attend?
    Any information on the subject would be nice.

    That is true.  Keep in mind however that the Flash Island isn't meant to take up your entire UI.  It is intended to supplement the existing Web Dynpro UI elements.  There are things that WD does better than Flex - Value Help, Translation, Personalization, Accessibility.  Of course there are advantages to using Flex as well - especially for very visual or highly interactive UI element constructs.  Hopefully the combination of Flex and WD gives you the best of both worlds when used in a powerful combination.

    Hi Bala,
    Adobe Flex is not similar to Java Webdynpro. You can get more information from the Adobe Webpage and also a trial version. Adobe Flex is part of Visual Composer Compiler capabilities. At SAP TechEd in Munich was an interessting demo of rendering webdynpro with Flex during the Demo Jam. For more information you can download the Demo Jam Video <a href="http://www.sapteched.com/emea/activities/videos/DemoJam.wmv">here.</a>

    hi experts,

    thanks

    Adobe Flex isn't an SAP product therefore I can't really trouble shot problems you are having with their IDE in general. I can tell you that SAP doesn't support Flash Builder 4 for Flash Islands.  We only support Flex SDK 2.x and 3.0-3.3.  You can use Flash Builder 4 but in your project settings you must force build with one of these older SDK versions.
