SAP with Barcode Technology
Hi,
My requirement is, Once I created the Packing material it has to be tracked or traced until the supply completes. For example goods movements inside the warehouse need to be traced in the SAP also supply van need to be traced.

There are 3 ways for using barcode with SAP.
the first 2 is with radio frequency
1. you can use sapconsole which connect directly through SAP (you still need a telnet server).
2. You can use a middleware to connect to SAP via RFC or IDOC.
3rd way, you could connect any barcode devices behind your computer to scan anything.

UCC 128 labels with barcodes - from SAP directly onto Zebra
Hi - I am trying to find a solution that would help our business print ucc 128 labels with barcodes directly from SAP onto Zebra printers. Till now, I had our basis team configure the printer and I ran a sample print program using SAPScript. The sample text data that the program had did print onto the label. What I am not sure about is the barcodes.
How to print a complete 4 (Width) X 6 (Height) label on a Zebra printer with barcodes.
Thanks
NikhilHi Nikhil,
Could you please let us know the solution you have found. It would be helpful... Are there any best practices for using UCC 128 labels?

The issue is, I am getting the barcode printed correctly but when i read the barcode with the reader
an extra alphabet is appearing
eg: if delivery number is 880001143
When i read the barcode it is appearing as follows 880001143W
Could you please let me know what would be the issue?

New smartform barcoding technology not producing barcodes
Hello all,
I am wanting to change an existing Smartform label to print using new barcoding technology instead of barcode dll. Our company wants to get away from using the barcode dll for printing smartforms.
When I print out the label the text shows up where it is needed but where barcodes are needed there is nothing. The spool does generate a problem error in the log. I have this included in bottom of post. Below is the information I believe will be valuable in
troubleshooting. If there is anything else you need feel free to let me know. I have spent quite some time trying to troublshoot this. If any of you can provide any help I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

end of spool textHello Aidan,
Thanks for the quick response. I did not create the specific printer barcode in SE73 -> Printer Fonts. I created it via SE73 -> Printer Bar Codes. I did try to only create barcode via SE73 -> System Bar Codes but it did not work in my first attempt and then I added it via SE73 -> Printer Bar Codes in my second attempt. Both attempts same result. Do you still think I need to remove the Printer Bar Code reference via SE73 -> Printer Bar Codes?
I did reference SAP note #645158 as well thinking it would work for all device types specifically Zebra device types found in linked note SAP note #750772. If you have any other suggestions I will gladly try it.
Thanks,

Hi Experts,
I have requirement to create bar code in smart form, the barcode format will be 39 full ASCII .
I have tried to create a character format with this font but it is not available in smartstyles.
Can you please help me how Can I create this and get into smartstyles ?
Thanks in advance...run tcode SE73, create a new system barcode and select "New Barcode Technology". Then select the Code 39 Symbology.
As far as i know, SAP supports the full ASCII mode of the Code 39.
The difference between Code 39 and Code 39 full ASCII is that you are able to use for example uppercase and lowercase letters within your barcode.
Code 39 is restricted to 44 characters. In Full ASCII Code 39 Symbols 0-9, A-Z, "." ,and "-" are the same as their representations in Code 39. Lower case letters, additional punctuation characters and control characters are represented by sequences of two characters of Code 39. For example, if you want to use "a", you have to use the encoding "+A".
I hope, this helps you a bit.

Help with Barcodes!!!!
Hello everyone!
I'm having problems to print a barcode from a sapscript, I choose a barcode from the transaction se73, I choosed "BARCLVS" and "C128A_00", and both did not work, I also create one with the option "New barcode technology" and the other with "old system barcode", and both did not work too.
I assigned it to the form and I create a character format <BC> with the barcode I create, but it did not work, 'cause when I print it, in the print preview appears the barcode, but in the label doesn't appear.
So please if anybody can tell me what's wrong with my process, also I'm using a Zebra Printer and the basis named it ACZE in windows but in SAP it is named LB_ZEB the same printer.
Please Help Me!!!!!
Thanks for your time.First, to print a barcode using SAPscript you have to
implement a software solution or a hardware solution.
In my case, we have a DIMM card installed in all of our printers which need to print barcodes. I've heard that there is a software solution as well.
You mentioned that you are using a zebra printer. In this case, you don't need to do anything special. Nor do you need to embed a barcode in your sapscript. Are you using the ZPLII language in your sapscript? This is how you define the layout of your label for zebra printers. All you do, is have a MAIN window in your sapscript form and then have all of the ZPLII printer code inside the window. The CODE defines the label. The CODE defines the barcode.
Here is a sample of our ZPLII code. The code that does
the barcode is in BOLD.

Issue with Barcode printing in SAPscript
Hi All,
I am trying to print barcode in my script. I assigned barcode font to the numbers which I want in the form of barcode, I am able to see barcode in the print preview but when I am trying to take printout , in printout barcode is not appearing.
I try same barcode font with the smartform I am getting barcode in the printpreview as well as in the printout of the smartform with the same printer.
Can any one help me in this issue. Is there any other setting required in the smartform or its driver program?
Thanks.
Shweta.Hi
It depends on which kind of barcode fornt you're using.
In last SAP release there's a new tecnique to print the barcode by smartform: this tecnique translate the barcode as graph so the printer manages the baracode just as if it was a logo and It doesn't need any other hardware or software to print a barcode.
This tecnique is available for smartform only, else u make sure your printer can print a barcode, you can see a dummy barcode in preview.
I have had your same problem, and I found out this very usefull answer in the forum:
Barcode Printing issue using Forms
Hi, In general, if you want to print a barcode, somebody must draw the bars of the
barcode to get a correct print. There are four possible ways to print barcodes from SAP:
1. Print e.g. via a Barcode DIMM/SIMM To use this way, the printer must be able to print
barcodes by itself so it needs e.g. a special barcode SIMM/DIMM module to print the
barcodes. ie: HP printers do not contain barcode fonts by default so a DIMM module with
the fonts must be installed. The print works as follows: The SAP sends a simple printer
escape sequence to the printer, which activates the barcode printing in the printer. Then
the SAP sends the barcode number and finally it sends a printer escape sequence, which
switches the printer back to normal printing. So in this way the bars of the barcode are
created in the printer (and you only see a dummy barcode in the print preview). Se the
SAP Note 45643 about the sequences for Jetcaps BarDIMM used for printing barcodes on HP
Laserjet printers. The correct BarDIMM modules for different HP printer models can beseen
on the JetMobile website at the URL below: http://www.jetmobile.com/products/SJ_BD.htm
2.Print via a barcode.dll If your printer doesn't have a barcode DIMM, it cannot create the
bars of the barcode itself. So this must be done elsewhere. One possibility is that you
print via a Windows system, SAPSprint or SAPLPD, device type SAPWIN and a barcode.dll.
ie: Your printer is connected to a Windows system that runs the SAPSprint or SAPLPD
program If you print via device type SAPWIN, the creation of the print data is done in
the Windows. So the Windows may create a graphic, which contains the bars of the barcode,
and send this graphic to the printer. The job to create the barcode graphic is done by
the barcode.dll. See SAP note 14561. 3. New barcode technology If your printer doesn't
have a barcode DIMM and if you don't want to use a barcode.dll, you may use the new
barcode technology, which is described in the SAP Notes #645158 and #430887. However this
is only possible when printing from Smartforms. In this way SAP itself creates a picture,
which contains the bars of the barcode. This picture is sent to the printer. One
important requirement when you print the barcode via a Smartform is that you have at
least release 46C. 4. Use of a barcode font There are some font files (e.g. Windows TTF
files), which contains bars instead of characters. So if you use these font files, the
bars of the barcode are printed instead of a text. You may buy such a font file, install
it under Windows and use it via device type SAPWIN according to SAP Note #48803. Since
release 46C these files can also be uploaded into the SAP and used via other device
types.
Regards, Aidan
I hope it can help you
P.s.: I post the answer here, because I can't looking for the original post now, so thank very much to Aidan

Reg Advice for SAP with RFID..
Hello Friends,
I am totaly new for RFID concept. now i want to do some project in SAP with RFID. so can u give me some guidance for SAP with RFID and how to go further for that. i mean what is the way for go further in SAP.. and plz tell me some good links wher i can find some material for RFID and its use with SAP.
Thanks in Advance.
MarmikHi marmik,
I am compiling some of my previous replies to
queries on similar lines probably would help you....
1.RFID-What is it's purpose!
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a
state-of-the-art technology for extensive
identification of every type of object.
It enables rapid and automatic data acquisition
via radio waves. At its most basic level, Radio Frequency Identification ( RFID ) is a wireless
link to uniquely identify objects or people.
RFID is a means of capturing data about an object without using a human to read the data.
The object of any RFID system is to carry data in suitable transponders, generally known as tags,
and to retrieve data, by machine-readable means,
at a suitable time and place to satisfy particular application needs. Data within a tag may provide identification for an item in manufacture,
goods in transit, a location, the identity of a
vehicle, an animal or individual.
Where it will be used mainly.
RFID is becoming more popular in applications
where other identification technologies, such as barcodes, are no longer sufficient
(e.g. logistics, material management,
industrial automation, services etc.).
POSSIBLE COMMERCIAL APPLICATIONS OF THIS SYSTEM
Electronic Article Surveillance(EAS)
logistics
Asset Management
Waste Management
Yard Management
Fare Collection
Animal Identification
Luggage Tracking in Airports
Industrial laundries
Fugitive Emission Detection
Totes/Conveyor
Vehicle Identification
Automotive Anti-theft
Employee Identification
The list continues. It can be used in man
Advantages of RFID:
Contactless identification
Reads through many materials like cardboard,
wood etc.
Unlimited reading and writing of the memory
Identification takes less than a second
Simultaneous reading of various transponders
Resistant to harsh environmental conditions,
such as extreme temperature, humidity etc.
Shape and size of the transponders can be
adapted as desired
Transponders can be completely integrated
into a product
High security due to copy and password
protection or encrypted data communication
RFID Adoption (RFID Now)AND Growth Prospects
RFID DEVICES are beginning to replace
magnetic-stripe security cards for unlocking
doors and granting access to secured areas
especially at facilities with special security
needs, such as military installations.
The most visible use of RFID, though, is
probably the automatic toll payment systems
that rely on readers at toll plazas to scan
tags attached to the windshields of passing
cars. The reader records the tags ID and then
deducts money from a prepaid account.
These systems are designed to allow cars to
zip through toll plazas ideally without stopping
or even slowing down very much .Known as
E- ZPass in New York, New Jersey, Delaware and
other states, as FasTrak in California, and by
different names elsewhere, RFID-based automatic
toll systems have been operating for several years.
RFID Growth Prospects(RFID FUTURE)
Why the RFID market is set to expand rapidly
1.Auto-ID Center at MIT produced standards: EPC,
Air-protocol, Savant, ONS.
2.Cost of tags is dropping rapidly
3.The coming RFID tsunami is real and it has
two mega-sized supply buyers written all over it:
Wal-Mart and the DoD.
Walmart, the worlds largest retailer, and the
US Dept of Defense (DOD), are two powerful
entities that have launched initiatives to
implement RFID in their logistics operations,
motivated by their needs to cut costs and
streamline their supply chain in their
organizations.Wal-Mart has mandated that
its top 100 suppliers adopt RFID for palettes
and cases by January 2005.
4.In the coming years, Radio Frequency
Identification (RFID) could have a major
impact on any enterprise involved in the
production, movement, or sale of physical
goods. RFID's unique attributes will enable
new applications and radical changes to business practices. RFID technology is a powerful
Auto ID solution that can significantly
increase efficiency and productivity.
Implementing an RFID solution requires a
thorough understanding of the capabilities and limitations of this emerging technology.
So the future is absolutely very bright
SAP RFID Solution Package
The SAP RFID solution package provides a
complete auto-ID middleware solution connecting
RFID data directly from auto-ID data capture
sources, such as RFID readers and device
controllers, and integrates the data directly
into enterprise applications . It converts
raw RFID data into business process
information by making the associations from
key business rules, master data, and transactions
to raw RFID data .
SAP-RFID
SAPs RFID solution is packaged as a standalone
solution package built on top of SAP Web
Application Server 6.40, and consists of:
SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure
SAP Event Management
SAP Enterprise Portal
Backend ERP adapters to SAP R/3 4.6C
and greater
SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure
Auto-ID Infrastructure is compatible with
SAP R/3 4.6C or greater, and it also has
adapters for SAP Warehouse Management, SAP
Business Information Warehouse, SAP Supply
Chain Event Management, SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization, and all SAP NetWeaver components.
Auto-ID Infrastructure is designed to synchronize
EPC and RFID information into your ERP systems by providing a complete, multidimensional data model
of RFID-enabled assets, including:
1.EPC number
2.Asset location
3.Status
4.Last RFID read point
5.Handling unit number
6.Packing hierarchy association
(such as item, item-to-case, or case-to-pallet)
It then maps this data to your SAP R/3 system
via association to handling units (HUs). Handling
unit headers include a standards-based HU number, weight, volume, and dimensions. HU content
includes material number, quantity, unit of
measure, batch number, plant number and location,
and stock category (such as consignment), as well
as serial number and inspection lot data.
These HUs are then associated with EPC numbers
and are integrated into the appropriate transaction
for processes such as production orders, transfer orders, sales orders, delivery (ASNs) and receipt, shipment, picking and packing, and inventory move
and packing operations.
Because it is built on SAP Web
Application Server,
Auto-ID Infrastructure supports multiple
communication interfaces (HTTP, SOAP, WSDL,
SOCKET/ TCPIP), as well as mobile interfaces
to PocketPC 2003 and Mobile Linux (Sharp).
It runs on Windows (XP, 2000, NT), Unix, and
Linux, and supports Oracle, SAP DB, DB2,
and Microsoft SQL Server

Front end printing with control technology problem with Mac platforms
Hello,
We are looking into replacing Host Spool Access method "F: Printing on front end computer" with the newer "front end printing with control technology" but are running into an issue. Our Mac platforms cannot print duplex nor print multiple pages per side using the new technology. We have followed SAP's recommendation to use the POST2 device type but it still won't allow full printing functionality. Has anyone run into this and if so how did you overcome it?
Thanks and Regards,
RichHi Rich,
I've had success getting duplex printing through "front end printing with control technology" with the Mac SAPgui as follows:
In the Mac SAPgui, go to the Preferences window and select Printing (i.e. Preferences -> Desktop -> Printing).
In the "Media sides" pull-down menu, select one of the "two-sided" choices (such as "two-sided-long-edge").
Click the "Save" button at the bottom of the window (near the right hand side.
Print to a Front end printer.
I haven't figured out how to get n-up printing.

Assigning Barcode to any data so it could be reckognize with barcode reader
Hi all,
Although I am a SolMan consultant, the fallowing task is assigned to me recently:
We have borrowed a Symbol handheld Barcode device, and I have connected it to SAP ECC, and generated needed screens so LM01 and other mobile transactions can be used.
Now, I am asked to create a basic, simple example of how the device can be used (from start to an end).
I fail to understand what is the concept of optimal usage of this device:
At first I thought: OK, the goods is arriving to a WH, then I scan the material barcode, enter the amount, so the system automatically update the status in stock.
I have searched www and forums as well as sap help and I read that "SAP reads bar codes for identification and verification. The items that can be identified include Storage bin, Material, Quantity, Delivery, Staging area, Shipment, Pick wave, Handling unit, Storage Unit. It is possible to scan items for verification purposes and these fields includes Storage unit, Material, Quantity, Storage bin, Other fields determined in a user exit"
Nicey!
The one milion dolar (or at list 10 point ) question is:
How do I generate a barcode for specific entry (one of mantioned)?
How do I link this barcode to this specific entry?
All I could find was a EAN field for material in MM01, and first I entered a (mineral water) barcode for testing purpose there, and then tried to read the barcode in LM01 with Goods Receipt > GR by others > Material.
Didn't work. Got message "Material 000000xxxxxxxxx does not exist".
Then I created a Delivery for that material, and again executet LM01 > Goods Receipt > GR by Delivery - I get a "Delivery" filed. So now I can enter a delivery number and it is OK, but I am under strong impresion that delivery barcode should be used here, and not a manualy entered delivery number.
So - how can I link a delivery with certain barcode?
Is there a special transaction like "VB11" (I entered a test mineral water barcode as a "MatEntered", assigned to my test material "353" and again, I got the same "Material 000000xxxxxxxxx does not exist" message again.
Excuse me for such a basic questions, but look at the bright side: it will be lot easier to answer
Thank you in advance,
Nenad
P.s. - is there any good documentation covering this filed with some useful info of HOW to do it, not WHAT CAN BE DONE?Hi Arakish,
Thank you for your reply.
This all makes sense for the internal numbers, but what about external barcode numbers?
For example, the same "mineral water" I tried to read - can I:
- name the material "Mineral Water xx"
- assign an external, manufacturer barcode number to it,
- read that barcode,
- the Mineral Water would be recognized as material?
I suppose I can. But how? I want the material to be named "mineral water xx", and not 8605002300xx?
So let's summarize (for the future colleagues-in-need):
Every internal number we want to enter with barcode should be used in original form - weather SAP generates it (Delivery, HU, SU...) or we named it ourselves (Material, Quantity...). No special Barcode number is needed to be assigned.
But first, we need to generate that specific number/data in Barcode format (example: Delivery), so we are able to read the very same number into pre-designated field (example: in Tx LM06) using a BC reader.
There is a (costy) plug in for Microsoft Excel that can transform a text to barcode. One should search the net for "barcode with Microsoft excel". However, there are other (commercial) software that can convert characters to barcode. SAP can do it via Smart Forms and SAPscript.
Thanks once again,
Cheers,
N -
Hi,
Does SAP provide a standard way to print the production order with barcode for the shop floor control or a development is required?Could you please give me the details in either case.
Regards,
Sachindear friend,
you probably are able to create labels using an external design program and to print them from within a sapscript form.
and you need a special printer of course...
what are the activities?
i assume:
*Create the label using a design program: Define the entire layout of the label, including the fields you later want to fill from within the R/3 system;
*Download the print file: Export the data using the printer commands of the design program. The printer commands must be in ASCII format, that is, you can use only printable characters plus carriage return, line feed, and, maybe, form feed. In addition, the file must not comprise more than 80 characters per line; otherwise unwanted line feeds may occur during upload. There must be no binary control characters (for example, escape);
*Upload the print file into the SAPscript form: Upload the print file into a SAPscript standard text. However, you use this standard text as "intermediate storage" only. Then copy the text into a SAPscript form. In the form, enter variables of the print program (program symbols) in those places where you want variable data to appear in the label. At runtime, the system fills these variables with the current field values from the application program;
*Adapt the form: For most label printers you must adapt the form; for example, you must enlarge the MAIN window to maximum page size and delete all other windows. In addition, the MAIN window should contain only one single text element: the imported print file.
*Create an output device: Define an output device for label printing. As device type use either ASCIIPRI or one of the special device types for label printers.

New Realplayer 10.5 with Harmony Technology supports Zen produ
hi,
not sure if anyone knew about this but the New Realplayer 0.5 with Harmony Techology supports Zen products. It's a free download as well. It even works with my zen micro.
Just wanted to share this information. Maybe it might help those having trouble with WMP or Zen explorer/creative mediasource.....just another alternati've worth trying........
Also, I found it convenient that instead of dragging and dropping files into zen micro....you can just highlight/select the mp3s you want to transfer in the music library, right click, select copy to --> zen micro...and that's it...very easy all in one step...

Message Edited by Tiger23 on 0-2-2005 0:06 PMIt's nice that someone else is using the Real Player 0.5 with Harmony Technology and thinks it is as great as I do.
I have the Creative Zen Micro and my husband has the Nomad Muvo TX 256. After trying all the other players, including the, iTunes, Music Match, Windows Media Player 0 and the Creative Mediasource that was sent with our Creative Players, we both found ourselves using Real Player 0.5. It is so much easier to use and the Harmony Technology actually was the reason that I bought us the Creative players for Christmas.
As a computer age newbie, married to a computer geek, am surprised that we both ended up using the Real Player 0.5 on our seperate computers. (His uses Windows XP and I use Windows 2000) Hope everyone will give it a try.
Best wishes. -

How to resolve this error....
Regards,
Lisa
Edited by: Lisa Yanti on Feb 14, 2008 9:35 AMI was resolve this error by my self.
We can handle this error with registering our current IP and host name on /etc/hosts.
example:
content of /etc/hosts:
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.1.1 myhost.workgroup
The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
ff02::3 ip6-allhosts
added the ip and host name to be like this configuration
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.1.1 myhost.workgroup
172.20.17.74 myhost
The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
ff02::3 ip6-allhosts
