SAP XI in SOA

HI,
We have SAP R/3 4.7, SAP SRM4.0, SAP CRM4.0 and SAP BW-SEM4.0 in system landscape. The implementation is following SOA (Service Oriented Architecture).
1. There is CRM middleware is available to integrate CRM with SAP R/3.
2. SAP BW connector to talk with SAP R/3
3. SAP SRM, SAP connector to integrate with SAP R/3.
As the above three options are not based on SOA. It is SAP proprietary adapter/connector.
Can we go ahead with SAP XI and adhere to SOA? What kind of advantages or problems could occur?
Please comment ASAP
Thanks & Regards,
Himanshu

Hi,
<i>1. There is CRM middleware is available to integrate CRM with SAP R/3.
<b>CRM -> XI -> R/3</b>
2. SAP BW connector to talk with SAP R/3
<b>BW -> XI -> R/3</b>
3. SAP SRM, SAP connector to integrate with SAP R/3.</i>
<b>SRM -> XI -> R/3</b>
SAP is strongly recomending its customers to use XI for integrationingheterogeneous systems, instead of using point to point proprietery software. Its one system for all intergration solutions.
<i>Can we go ahead with SAP XI and adhere to SOA? What kind of advantages or problems could occur?</i>
There are standard cook books avalible on service.sap.com for the above scenarios using XI. Its a no brainer. In terms of advantages, there are a ton, less of effort, less on maintanence, one integration solution. the list goes on.

  • Will GRC AC RAR (CC) add value to SOA  based SAP implementation?

    Hello GRC Experts,
I thought of asking other GRC experts to get their opinions on the GRC AC RAR for the following scenario:
These days there are numerous SAP clients implementing SOA based Composite Applications using the CAF. These SAP PORTAL applications use Adaptive RFC (direct calls) and Web services calls (thru PI/middleware) to the back end SAP applications to complete the 75-100% of the work. The remaining 0-25% work may be completed using the transaction codes. There are also calls to the back end systems originating from non-SAP applications using the web services via some middleware tool to complete the 100% work.
When the GRC AC RAR deals only transaction codes and their associated authorization objects, how do you assess the risk for this type of access in GRC AC RAR and how do you build a custom rules matrix for this type of applications?
    Thanks,
    Himadama

    Hello again,
Has anyone implemented SAP GRC RAR for the SOA based application? What are the challenges faced? If this is not possible, then anyone has any idea if this is covered in GRC AC 2010 version.
    Regards,
    Himadama

  • Soa 11g - error calling SAP adapter

    Hello
I'm installing a SAP adapter on SOA suite 11g following this tutorial http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15523_01/doc.1111/e17057/bpel_pm.htm#CHDIDHHI
Using Application Explorer i can connect to SAP server , test services and export wsdls, but when I use this wsdls (Inbound JCA Service) in a simple composite application a got this error :
Error during deployment: Deployment Failed: [JCABinding] [OlaMundoSAP.Service1/1.0]Unable to complete load due
Cause: Unable to find suitable outbound binding.
My composite is very simple, only one Bpel calling a third party adapter, error occurs in deploy time.
    Any suggest guys ?

    Helder,
in case you still phase this problem, please have a look at the following note and check the prerequisite patches to apply SOA composites:
Oracle Fusion Middleware Application Adapter Best Practices Guide for Oracle WebLogic Server 11g (Doc ID 1080041.1)
Patch 9563280 should solve your problem.

  • Did we implement SOA architecture

    Hi ,
I am new to SOA and just wanted to know, whether we are on right tract to implement SOA architecture in our peoject or not.
We have a landscape of five system .
    CRM 5.0
    ECC 6.0
    XI
    BI
    EP 7
Now we are in a process to implement all the main processes in the system as a webservice.
Just for an example , we have created a FM which would create a BP in CRM system, similarly we have created FM's for creating SERVICE ORDER in CRM system, PLAN and CAMPAIGN creatinn in CRM system.Like this we have lots of other small and big processes.
Similarly we are trying to imlement all processes in ECC side as webservice.
So my question is , once we have created webservice for all processes does it mean we have implemented SOA in our project?
    Regards
    PG

    Hi,
Although you are already working on defining your own services, I'd strongly suggest taking a look at the ES Workplace for enterprise services already provided by SAP. As an example, the enterprise services for CRM contain predefined services for Business Partner Data Management and Campaign Management.
The benefit of re-using these services is that these have been defined using a formal methodology, and in consultation with customers and partners. So you'll get industry best practice business services which you can customize if you want. SAP has an ecosystem around Enterprise Services Definition which any customer or partner can join. This way, they have a say on what SAP rolls out to customers.
For an SOA Roadmap, I'd suggest taking a look at https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/soa-methodology. This will help you in step-by-step progress towards SOA. Not all steps might be relevant so you can be choose whichever you consider appropriate. But it is good to have an end-to-end view.
There are a lot of documents on SDN related to SOA Reference Architecture which SAP proposes. Please take some time out to look at it. /people/kareemullahshah.quadri/blog/2007/02/19/sap-architecture-150enterprise-soa-basics is also a good weblog on SOA and what SAP offers. /people/kareemullahshah.quadri/blog/2007/02/19/sap-architecture-150enterprise-soa-basics is good one for build vs. buy SOA.
If you are a SAP shop, then it might be best to use SAP's SOA Reference Architecture as a guideline. If you have a mixed IT portfolio, please do review what other vendors like IBM, Oracle/BEA, etc suggest in terms of SOA reference architectures.
An ESR will act as the central repository for your services and a must have for SOA implementations. You will find that in all SOA reference architectures. This helps you down the road when the number of enterprise services increases. Governance is a nightmare in SOA and ESR will help you in that. SOA Reference Architectures from SAP and other vendors contain necessary components you should have for an SOA landscape.
Hope it helps. Feel free to post any questions that come to your mind.

  • SAP BI Research Study?

Hello Everyone, I am currently pursuing my MBA (MIS) at California State University, Chico. Since a couple of weeks I have been searching for some topic in the domain of SAP BI for conducting an independent research study. I am unable to figure out any solution for the same.
Over the last semester I have gained tremendous insights on SAP Business Intelligence via. a grad level course. I did get hands on experience on data warehousing as well. But after I began my search on the Internet to familiarize myself with the current situation I was flabbergasted. There is so much happening around us and there are a plethora of skills to acquire that I feel like robbing a bank to become a millionaire only to enroll myself for all the courses across the globe which would inundate me with cutting edge skills within SAP. I consider myself as a toddler. Actually, not even a toddler! But I do not intend to get demotivated and neither do I want to be a part of the problem. I need to find solutions.
So I would like all you experts to pitch in your ideas as to what you feel are considerably the most sustainable topics in SAP BI and Data Warehousing? Which topics need more research hours and would demand oneself to ponder upon it with an intent to come up with innovations later in our research? Which topics have the most potential? (By topics I mean: Either related to warehousing...DTP's, Transformations, Delta, Process Chains, Cubes, DSO's, Queries ..MDM in general..etc etc etc. or say SAP BI Accelerator, SAP BO Explorer, SOA, BPM, Portal etc)
With regards to the aforementioned topic set I would also want to host a question: After you suggest a topic out of the above mentioned set, would you all still think it is going to be worthwhile spending my time on such topics or would you suggest me to look out for something new in the BI world which may help me at work later or even embellish my resume...for e.g. working on some innovation or some fancy idea (with out without a programmer alongside me) I may sound obtuse but would the following type of study help: "Considering the need for better analysis of transactional data by anyone in general, not necessarily the top-level so to speak, what if we have audio files (results) (podcasts sorts) for iphones if the display is not large enough to fit graphs, bar charts etc. One can always have a wireless bluetooth dead set device for constantly having an option to avail days end results for critical issues." This is what I feel is fancy. Could be immature too. But would this help? I may have sounded immature but I need to figure out the right path..which is why I have come to the right bunch of people.
I am awaiting some of the most informative responses. Please acknowledge!
    Thanks and Regards, Akshay Thussu

    Hello,
Most sustainable topics in SAP BI and Data Warehousing?
Yes, Data warehousing is the most important area where u can learn basic concept that is required for SAP BI.
Which topics need more research hours and would demand oneself to ponder upon it with an intent to come up with innovations later in our research?
Scenario wise, Data Modelling, ETL (i.e Extraction, Transformation & Loading) & then Reporting are the topics that u can go 1 by 1.
Which topics have the most potential? (By topics I mean: Either related to warehousing...DTP's, Transformations, Delta, Process Chains, Cubes, DSO's, Queries ..MDM in general..etc etc etc. or say SAP BI Accelerator, SAP BO Explorer, SOA, BPM, Portal etc)
Now, as u mentioned in above question Cube, DSO's etc. are all the contents which is mainly used for data modelling & Reporting.

  • ESB implementation for SOA

I delved lot in SDN & web, I could not find any details about ESB implementation for SOA in SAP.
How ESB is implemented in SAP for enabling SOA?
I am aware of SAP PI and its involvement in SOA.

    Jawahar,
SAP PI is an EAI tool.
ESB tool would be Netweaver CE or to a certain extent CAF.

  • Certified Associate SAP Enterprise Architect

Could anyone certified on 'Certified Associate SAP Enterprise Architect' give some guidelines to prepare for the exam?  Would be great if you can share your experience on writing this exam.

I was able to clear this exam few months back . I have seen many people asking about this certification. There is so much to share in terms of experience, but here i would like to highlight few things:
First of all read through this exam and preparation courses here : [http://www12.sap.com/services/education/certification/certificationrole.epx?context=%5b%5bROLE_C_SOA_CER%5d%5d%7c]
This is neither an typical technical exam nor an functional domain specifc course. This mainly is about big SOA engagements in an organisation. Following are major areas of exam:
    Concepts:
SOA history, the SOA overview, journey of SOA so far within SAP, how SAP has adopted SOA model in its practices and many more conceptual points in and around SOA.
    SOA Engagement:
In SOA 200 course you will find different phases illustrating how should SOA transformation happen in any company based on several conditions. This also includes what is the best practice to convert an traditional running software enviornment to SOA oriented enviornment.
    SOA Governance :
How to get engaged in effective SOA cycle and what rules/templates to follow.
Apart from concepts there are courses for real time studies on Provisioning and Consumption sides of SAP SOA.
Related to this you also need knowledge of SAP netweaver tools and how do these tools help in provisioning and consumption and in overall SOA practices.
In general, this is first level course for a person who wants to be an Enterprise Archictect. But I feel there would be a long way to go after this for anyone to become an SOA EA. This course forms a basis of understanding about the buzz word SOA and related scnearios. But a practical engagement is then necessary to move in the direction of an EA.
I think we are(should be) not allowed to come up with the question paper, but I can give you some hints on the pattern asked in this certification:
The questions are arranged mostly as per the chapters of different courses - SOA100, 200, 110 and Netweaver.
If you read whole SOA 200 it is easier to clear the certification exam because SOA 200 is the important part of whole learning. The major focus is on Introduction chapters of SOA and several definitions besides different phases (view/matrices/templates).
Netweaver topics are huge and it is not possible for anyone to cover all the stacks of Netweaver like PI, MDM, BI, Composition via CAF/CE..
which means that there can be some technical questions which will not be possible to answer unless you have worked on that area throughly. So its better to go with best knowledge on these topics before appearing in the exam or just leave on your luck otherwise ).
SOA100 is very interesting in reading and for understanding as well. The questions are very easy also to answer in this area.
I would say this course should be more considered as interesting learning and its not safe to leave any topic or chapter among these courses for exam as all the courses contribute to questions in the exam.
    Hope it helps .

    and
Each release of Oracle has many differences, and Oracle 10g is a major re-write of the Oracle kernel from Oracle 9i. While there are several hundred new features and other differences between 9i and 10g, here are the major differences between Oracle9i and Oracle10g:
Major changes to SQL optimizer internals
    Oracle Grid computing
AWR and ASH tables incorporated into Oracle Performance Pack and Diagnostic Pack options
Automated Session History (ASH) materializes the Oracle Wait Interface over time
Data Pump replaces imp utility with impdp
    Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor (ADDM)
    SQLTuning Advisor
    SQLAccess Advisor
Rolling database upgrades (using Oracle10g RAC)
dbms_scheduler package replaces dbms_job for scheduling
and you need to refer oracle documentation for sql, plsql references where you will know particular enhancements made...

  • What is ESA and SOA

    pls help me
what is ESA and SOA standards???

    HI Gabriel
SOA is not about what technology you are using to connect. Its about whether your business processes have been exposed as services for other applications / processes to access. You can use XI as well to access these services.
In simple terms, ESA envisages exposing some of the processes (for example, creation of a Sales Order) as services, and since the web is one of the commonly used media, Web Services will be the preferred service 'type'.
ESA (now called Enterprise SOA) is SAP view on the SOA concept. There is an extensive section here in SDN on the topic. ESA is the style or a methodology to build applications which reflects SAP's 30 years of experience and latest IT advancements such as webservices. ESA helps you in building Flexible applications which can adopt the changes whenever occured in the market. ESA is SAP's new vision and we can realize this using Netweaver.

  • Please not another ABAP vs. Java-Thread, BUT ...

    Hi, folks!
I already had several inspiring discussions about the need for 2 different languages within one Enterprise System, but right now I' d like to take a more personal approach to this matter.
I' m working within SAP business for about 3 years now and started as a trainee for SAP Java development in a small consulting company . In my first year, I was some kind of geek freaking out on each new SAP technology that arose or was only announced. Web Dynpro Java, ESA/eSOA, Portal, Mendocino/Duet, Business Client, Enterprise Search, Widgets a.s.o. I did a lot of presentations and technical workshops for SAP Pros - NWDI, WDJ, Interactive Forms  - and you know what? Nobody was interested in any of these. Interactive Forms? We just switched to Smartforms. WDJ? When will it be available for ABAP. NWDI? We spent a fortune on ABAP courses. Widgets? We have SAP GUI. Business Client? We have SAP GUI. Portal? We have SAP GUI.
Now I' m working as a simple ABAP programmer in HR. No web enablement, cause web apps are realized completely outside SAP. No SOA-enablement, cause all SAP functionality needed outside is either already provided via BAPIs or put in RFC modules. No Java at all, cause there is and will be only an ABAP stack. None of all the new stuff, but a great need for knowledge of standard programs, their configuration possibilities and use.
So, to come to the conclusion: What I realized in my work life is that daily business is pretty innovation-resistant and I personally don' t think that even half of all the "emerging technologies" will make it for the next 5 - 10 years. What I also realized is that a lot of time and work has to be spent by developers to keep in touch with new development techniques, which could be used better for clearing white spaces in classical ABAP as well as module programming environments. If developers would focus more on ABAP and module knowledge than on the newest Modelling-techniques many SAP systems probably wouldn' t be spoiled by poor custom developments, enhancements and modifications as they are today!
    Regards,
    Thomas

So, to come to the conclusion: What I realized in my work life is that daily business is pretty innovation-resistant and I personally don' t think that even half of all the "emerging technologies" will make it for the next 5 - 10 years.
Yes - it is indeed. If a company invested quite lots of money to get a certain application (or a part of it) working they won´t switch to a different technology just because it´s "hip" at the moment. For new customers it is certainly a very nice alternative to use the new technologies instead of the "old ones".
And to quote the example I said already a few times: If ABAP was so bad, why would SAP themselves switch certain applications back to WD-ABAP (speaking of Travel Management in Enhancement Pack 2 e. g.).
What I´ve heard the new paradigma is
    - Service provisioning: ABAP
    - Service consumption: Java
    Whatever this means in detail.
I can hardly imagine removing the SAPGUI out of our e. g. sales department and replace it by e. g. a nice "guided procedure" using NWBC. In maybe 5 % of the todays cases this would be enough, the other 95 % still need the full featured transaction with all the tabs, fields and editing functionality.
And what I find the most interesting in that area is: SAP internally I always see SAPGUIs on the (supporters, sales dep.) desks, the "backend OSS/CSN" is still accessed by GUI and not by web, guess why...
