SAP-XI System Installation and Learning help

Hi!!,
I'm working as "ABAPer" from last 5 years. Recently I installed Miniwas 620(ABAP) from a CD I got through by SAP book purchase. I'm able to do a lot ABAP things in my system.
Now I'm planning to Upgrade my knowledge to XI. I studied lot of material in SDN(thanks!! to all the contributors). I have fair knowledge of XI functionality and each component. Now I think I should be sitting in front of system to play around and learn. I thought of using my system. I have following queries on this.
1. Does my system has XI components?. I'm able to get into
XI based Easy access menu, but If i click on any node for example 'start integration builder' I get a message 'address not maintained'. I'm not sure How do I install or configure all the components. Can any one help in this.
2. If I can not install in my system, what is the best way to learn XI.
3. In real time projects, what is the role of a XI-consultant and XI-developer( I'm seeing two kind of certifications in SAP site ). I just wanted to know to analyze where do I fit in.
4. Any good training around, Problem with SAP training is they do not have one course with full XI.
5. Any idea how is SAP's Online-course material?, Is it read only or interactive?. how it looks like?. Is paying $500 for each course is worth or not?
I really appreciates your Inputs on each of queries.
Thanks!!
Prit

Nope, you do not have XI components. XI 3.0 runs on Web AS 6.40 ABAP + Java Stack. One more thing.. There is no sneak preview for XI and no free downloads.
<i>2. If I can not install in my system, what is the best way to learn XI.</i>
Through Training either from SAP or some third party companies.
<i>3. In real time projects, what is the role of a XI-consultant and XI-developer( I'm seeing two kind of certifications in SAP site ). I just wanted to know to analyze where do I fit in.</i>
The role of XI Developer is to get the requirements of Source and Target systems, creating the maps, developing BPM (Business Process Management) where needed, development of custom adapter modules etc.
The Certifications are 1. Basis 2. XI Developer
TBIT 40, 50 and 51 are for Basis and
TBIT 40, 41, 42, 43, 44 are Developers
<i>4. Any good training around, Problem with SAP training is they do not have one course with full XI.</i>
Heard some third party people are giving training, some of our forum members may know about it and if you provide a contact mail id they might get in touch with you.
<i>5. Any idea how is SAP's Online-course material?, Is it read only or interactive?. how it looks like?. Is paying $500 for each course is worth or not?</i>
It is the price you pay to learn, if there are cheaper ways you can always explore.
I tried to answer as much as I can, other forum members might come up with good suggestions.
Good luck.

  • SAP & Microsoft System Installer

    Hi all,
Does anyone know if SAP plans to provide MSI (Microsoft System Installer) files for Vista?  I believe Vista is requiring this for applications to be Vista certified.  Also, do you know if they plan to begin using cab files?
    Thanks,
    Mimi

    Thanks Frank.
From the note #836310 I have got the anser for MSI already.
But for cab file, we still want to know whether SAP will create cab files to work with SMS 2003 for SAP software updates and distribution via SMS? The cab file here doesn't mean a componment of installation, actually it's configured to do SAP
software updates via SMS Software distribution.
I know we can carry out it by SAP Installation Server as well, but seems it's easy to use SMS here...
    Thanks,
    Wen

    Hi Shaik,
Follow these steps while installing XI:
    1. Windows server or advanced server with latest service patch.
    2. IE 6.0 with latest service patch
    3. Install Microsoft office and winzip, acrobat
    4. Install JDK with version 1.4.2_03 or above with the corresponding JVM
    5. Install the SAP GUI 6.20
    6. Make sure that you have hard disk space of 10 GB in C drive and 50 GB in the installation drive.
    7. Make sure the virtual memory is between 512 and 1594 or above for the installation drive.
    8. Copy the dumps of following DVDs into the installation drive.
    • Installation Master DVD
    • Installation Export
    • Additonal Components for SAP BW/SAP XI,SAP MI,SAP KW
    • SAP Web As Java
    9. Start the installation from the DVD dump Installation Master DVD.
    10. When installing the ABAP Database the SID of the oracle default database should be different the ABAP database SID.
U can go through the Installtion Guides for Installing XI from http://service.sap.com/instguides (SR1 installation)
u can also refer to service.sap.com/platforms to see the available platform on which XI can be installed. ( Windows/linux/UNIX)
or you can even go through this weblog which clearly talks to you about XI installation
    <a href="/people/sap.user72/blog/2005/05/31/my-experience-with-xi-installation-on-fedora-core-3-linux installation</a>
In addition to this installation guide you also need to download the XI configuration guide which is very useful for technical configurations of various adapters and XI system.
At the same place you will also get the XI configuration guide e.g XI30ConfigGuideSPS11.pdf.
U can also download SAP Exchange Infrastructure 3.0 SR1 Installtion Guide from the articles scetion.
    ABOUT XI :
If it’s just that you wanted to know more about sap xi....then the information below should definitely help you.
The best way to learn XI would be to make the maximum use of XI from its forums, weblogs, presentations, etc in SDN.
First I thought I will just give u the basic steps involved in doing any scenario in XI. This is very essential for a beginner.
First of all you would need to define your product, software component, business system and configure the technical landscape in the sld.
You then go on to create the objects in the repository, you import your software component here and then begin your design steps. To import your RFCs n Idocs if you require any before proceeding.
Then under the name space which you want, you go on to define your data types, message types and message interfaces.
Then you do your message mappings where you specify your source and target message types and the relation between them, then you do your interface mapping. If you are using a BPM, you do the integration process.
Once you have this done, you will have to move to the directory, here is where you define how you use the objects and how you configure them to work as a scenario.
You assign your business system to the configuration scenario which you have created, and create the communication channels. Then you go on to configure the receiver determination, interface determination, and the sender and receiver agreements. Once you’re done you will have make sure you activate your objects. The exact parameters steps depend on what kind of scenario you are implementing.
You can use sxmb moni or the runtime workbench to monitor the entire scenario which you have done.
Also I would suggest this link on SAP help for any info that you want on XI,
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/14/80243b4a66ae0ce10000000a11402f/frameset.htm
Further, this thread deals with everything that is needed for a starter on XI. Do check them out,
    JDBC Receiver: exact SQL statement
    /message/527697#527697 [original link is broken]
And after you are done with the documentation probably you can go through this scenario,
    JDBC Receiver: exact SQL statement
Also check the following threads which might help you a little more,
    Learning XI
    XI 3.0 Training
In simple words regarding learning XI, there is an abundance of information on SDN and help.sap.com…. So I think it will be better for you to search information there rather than me just providing you links….which will just go on and on and on….so I felt it is better for you to go and search so that not only you get information on SAP XI but also explore SDN in its real sense.

  • Lightroom 4.2 Installation and launch help.

No success running Lr4.2. Downloaded and installed successfully dozens of times over the past 3 days, but never asks for serial number, and I do not have access to adjustment brush and graduated filter options including the auto mask feature. I had the trial version with photos imported and edited, but i have removed these from my computer, and re-installed the purchased Lr4.2, but i am still experiencing the same issue.
Been online chat and tried to reach Adobe by phone for 3 days with no luck. Minimum 50' wait each time! Can someone please tell me how I can simply download the software, install it, then actually launch and use it? I have downloaded and launched successfully every time, but then when I open it, i have many features not available to me. Also, i want to import photos from iPhoto library, but this isn't an option on my menu. How can I do that as well? Thank you.

No problem, we'll get you sorted out!  When you say you don't have access to the adjustment brush and other features, can you explain a bit more?  Or better still, do you know how to take a screenshot so we can see exactly what you mean?

  • Pro's and Con's of having Single SAP BI System to multiple BI system

    Hi Gurus,
We are presently in One SAP ECC and One SAP BI landscape for two of our customers belonging to Same Parent Group.
Now we are implementing SAP for 4 more customers belonging to Same parent group in different SAP ECC system.
As part of BI solution, these 4 customers chosen the SAP BW as OLAP system, Now can some one explain the pro's and con's of having multiple SAP BI systems to one SAP BI system for all customers.
Main issue will be the Master data management from all the 6 customers where there are chances that either one or two customers might have same GL account codes or Vendor Keys or Cost centers, which may effect dataloads for their respective Master Data (Attributes, texts & hierarchies) infoobjects.
If we chose multiple SAP BI systems,is there any product with in Netweaver where we can derive KPI's from each SAP BI system separately and consolidate into one reporting Dashboard's or Scorecards. We may expect some further calculations and formulas in the KPI's from two different SAP BI systems.
Can some one help us in providing some inputs to the above scenario?
    Thanks & best regards,
    Sudhakar.K

    Suhakar,
I am not an expert in WAD and Visual Composer, so I will withhold comment.  Your organization may have requirements which push to BO regardless of your underlying BI implementation.
Yes, the display of text/key can be a small sticking point.  Currently I am working with an SRM reporting scenario where we have objects such as Vendor from many different ECC systems, and the key is compounded with 0LOGSYS.  This makes the key display as ZSRCSYSKEY/ZVENDORKEY.  One workaround, is to put 0LOGSYS on the row of the report, and hide the attribute, as from the user's point of view, they do not care to see which source system the Vendor comes from.
There would be nothing to prevent you from spawning off separate copies of the BEx query for each source system/group of users, if they have requirements for a slightly different display of data.  But the point is, you can still get a consolidated view of your key figures across all business units if it is modelled into one system, regardless of which UI is used.
I think regardless of the path you take, there will always be challenges.  I always prefer to address the challenges via modeling, rather than at the UI layer.
Now however, if you already had separate BW systems in place for each regional business unit, putting a new dashboard tool to pull the data together might be a simpler solution.

  • Hyperion 11.1.1.3 Installation and Configuration on a Distributed Environ:

    Hi All,
We have Only Hyperion Production Servers on a Distributed Environment. Now, we are thinking to create new instance that will be called Development Environment and that must be replica or mirror of Prod Environment. For that we cloned Production Servers.
Since we have all four servers Cloned for Development Environment now I need to Configure those all four instances.....I never worked with installations and configurations ...I do have knowledge and little experience with single tier or one system installation and configuration but distributed environment....I need your support and guideline to configure these boxes...
Our Distributed Environment lay out is as follows:-
We have installed Hyperion on Windows Server 2003 and Database is SQL Server
    (1) We have Four Servers
    (a) SQL, which Contains these services EPMA, and IIS Admin Service, World Wide Publishing Services, Hyperion Calc Manager-Web Application,
Hyperion EPMA (.Net JNI Bridge, Engine Manager, Event Manager, Job Manager, Process Manager, Web Application, and Data Syn-WebApplication)
    (b) Essbase Server Contains these services Hyp ERP Integrator-Web Application, Hyp Essbase Services, Hyp financial Data Quality Management-
    Task Manager
    (c) Planning Server contains these Services Hyp Financial Reporting-Web Application, Hyperion Planning-Web Application, Hyp RMI Registry,
    Hyp Web Analysis-Web Application
    (d) Workspace Server Contains these services Hyp Finacial Reporting (Java RMI Registy, Print Server, Report Server, Scheduler Server), Hyp Foundatio
OpenLDAP, Hyp foundation shared services-web application, Hyp Provider Services - web application, Hyp Workspace (agent service and web application)
    (2) Now my question is which server needs to be configured 1st then next and next and what things or steps i need to follow for configuration that works fine?
I know I can run EPMA configure tool for each system from Stat>All program>Oracle EPMA>EPMA Configuration> and then select tool to run.....But I am bit confused that which one go 1st and then next.
Please give your few words for this so that I can start configure the system....
    I hoping for positive feedback...
    Thanks in Advance.

We have roughly 8 servers in our distributed prod environment. We are using red linux for everything but the epma and report server which you need a windows server. The way we installed was to start with the base server with Shared services and establish that one and whatever else you want on that server. From there it really didnt matter as you go through the installs it will ask you where your shared services box is located. The only problem we had was that some of our boxes are behind a WHI cage where we had to open up ports. Other then that i really didnt follow a specific sequence of installation after shared services. Hope that helps.

  • SAP Discovery System (V3)

    Hi Advisers,
I'm now exploring the SAP Discovery System, V3 and am looking under the Banking scenario. May I know where can I get more documentation/ demonstration about banking anywhere in the site? I'm having difficulty looking for it in the SAP Marketplace and community network.
Another possible area that I would like to explore is more on the services related industry instead of product based industry. May i know where can i look under for more information.
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hi Dirk,
Unfortunately not, in the DSv3 the PI 7.0 is using the same NW 7.0 stack that is used by the ERP 6.0. You can't upgrade PI 7.0 to PI 7.1 without effecting the ERP. PI 7.1 runs on NW 7.1 while ERP 6.0 runs only on NW 7.0.

  • System Installer & Backlighting

I wanted to restore my system from a Time Machine backup, so I popped in my Leopard install disc last night. It went through the normal process, rebooting and bringing me to the language select menu. Right when the language select menu comes up, the display turns its backlight off, making it impossible to see anything. I've had to navigate System Installer with the light from my iPhone. I chose to exit System Installer, and boot up from my startup disk, which it did, no problem. The backlight came on when it restarted, and remained on during use. I decided to give it another shot, and went to the System Installer again. The computer restarted, backlight on, then right when the language select menu came up, the backlight went off again. I restored my system using Time Machine backup and, sadly, with the help from my iPhone's backlight.
I find this odd, because I just used System Installer two nights ago without a problem. However, my MBP has been having trackpad issues ONLY in System Installer since I bought it, where the trackpad is lagging and choppy, but still functional to get me around. My MBP was purchased in March, right when the new ones were released.
Thanks for any replies, and I appreciate any comments!

I found the issue. Apparently, both of my Leopard install disks were scratched, so when I tried an alternative one, it worked beautifully. Also, the mouse/trackpad lag problem went away, showing that the damaged DVDs were more than likely the culprit.
    Happy computing,
    Ian B.

  • SAP BW system specialist

    Hi,
i would like to know the role of SAP BW  system specialist and also whats the difference between BW architect and system specialist.
    thanks

    Lorenzo,
The defnitions vary at each work place. But mostly the defnition remains same.
Architect are the one who gives the system design at the high level. They are usually not going to work atthe details. In a simpler sense 'Designer'.
System Specialist are the ones who are technical savy, and they get into the nuts and bolts of the system and develop and create the system. In other words they are very closer to developers and who understand the design or the architecture and build the system. It is purely a technical role.
    Hope this helps,
    Goodluck,

    Hi Chandrababu,
Unfortunately I don't know any more than this. I have only done one SAP ME 15 installation so far
and this was the solution to our error situation.
If you don't get it working then you should log a support ticket to SAP.
    Best regards,
    Johan
