SAPgui 7.20 - Patch 2 - SapLogonTree.xml

Hi everyone,
We use a centralised saplogon.ini and set the environment variable SAPLOGON_INI_FILE on our users profiles so that they all access the same centrally managed saplogon.ini.
Now with SAPgui 7.20, the SapLogonTree.xml file is created in the same location as the saplogon.ini ... this is nice and obviously when using the SAPLOGON_INI_FILE or /INI_FILE options implies that it is central to all users.
However I do have a couple of issues with this.
Firstly the SapLogonTree.xml is a great idea, however the fact that it has a Favorites and Shortcuts area implies that each user should be able to drag their own selection of systems into the favorites area and/or create their own shortcuts.
Through a bit of testing if you drag a new favorite, then everyone gets this new favorite. Kind of amusing when a bunch of users start dragging/deleting systems from the Favorites area all impacting each others options.
Ideally I would like to be able to hide the favorites and shortcut options in the saplogon pad. Or allow the use of a central saplogon.ini but using a user specific/distributed SapLogonTree.xml.
Anyone had a play with this??

Disabling SAP Logon Views via Registry
You can set up the SAP Logon in such a way, that some of the three standard SAP Logon views (Explorer/List/Tree view) are not visible for the user.
To disable any of the three available SAP Logon views, create the following registry keys:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SAP\SAPLogon]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SAP\SAPLogon] (32 Bit OS)
“ShowExplorerView” (REG_DWORD) = 0 (disables the explorer view in SAP Logon)
“ShowListView” (REG_DWORD) = 0 (disables the list view)
“ShowTreeView” (REG_DWORD) = 0 (disables the tree view)
In standard mode, at least one view needs to be enabled.
In accessibility mode, the list view has to be enabled.

SAP Gui 7.20 SAPLOGON_INI_FILE and central saplogontree.xml

I want to set a central "saplogontree.xml" on server for SAP Gui 7.20. But the INI-File should be set by the environment-variable.
But the proble is, that when I set the environment-variable, I cannot set a central "saplogontree.xml". The point in the options where you can set it, disappears. The GUI also ignores the registry-key.
When I delete the environment-variable, I see the point for setting the central "saplogontree.xml" and it works.
Is this correct or is it a bug??

Question about SAPLogonTree.xml

Few questions regarding the SAP Logon Pad version identification at file level (need to findout the patch level from within any SAP GUI related file).
1) Within the SAPLogonTree.xml file, the string 7100.1.6.1050 represents
7100 - SAPGUI 7.20
1 - Compilation level
6 - Patch level 6
1050 - Build number
Question:
1) Does the SAPLogonTree.xml file gets updated itself whenever we update the SAP Logon Pad patch level?
2) Is there any DOS command to findout the SAP LogonPad patch level in Windows PC?
3) Any registry key available within Windows PC which could help in identifying the GUI patch level?

I cannot answer this because we use a central login server which provides the necessary login infomation. Therefore I dont update the file everytime a patch goes live an the saplogontree.xml shows the "old" version which is incorrect. I guess if you use local configuration the file is updated everytime you patch your GUI but cant guarantee.
2) Is there any DOS command to findout the SAP LogonPad patch level in Windows PC?
No.
3) Any registry key available within Windows PC which could help in identifying the GUI patch level?
No.
You can instead write a program which reads the GUI version and the patch level every time a user logs into the system. As given in this thread, it works perfectly for us: Get GUI version *and* PL of currently logged in users

Best Practice: SAPGUI Version and Patch Upgrades

Hello -
Does anyone have some thoughts/information on best practices relating to SAPGUI version and patch upgrades.
Obviously, sometimes upgrades are forced upon us (e.g. 7.10 for Vista) and in other cases it may just be considered "nice to have".
Either way - it always signifies regression test and deployment effort. How do we balance the benefit and cost?

you're right for the first part, yes, we (usually) patch twice a year.
Now for the rest
An uninstall will only happen on release changes (6.20->6.40->7.10), i. e. about every 4-5 years as SAP releases them.
Patches are applied to the installation server and the setup on the client will only update changed program parts. For example, upgrading 6.40->7.10 took about 10 minutes (incl. uninstall), applying patch 1 less than 5 minutes.
I recommend, you read the "SAP Frontend Installation Guide - 7.10" which you find at SMP alias sapgui. Navigate to Media Library - Literature. It explains setup of the installation server (sounds like a big thing, but ain't much more than creating a share), creating packages, applying updates etc.

Sapgui 7.10 patch 9 break "something" in IE 7

Hi All
AM experiencing a strange problem .. on machines that had sapgui 7.10 patch 2, upgrading til patch 9, something breaks inside IE 7, to prevent opening of new windows in IE 7 on all pages.
So basically sapgui 7.10 works perfectly, but afterwards browsing on the internet, all pages opening a new page automatically get a blank page. alle settings in IE 7 are good (pop-up windows allowed and so on).
Even more strange .. this happens ONLY on machines where IE 7 is the first browser to be installed, on machines that previously had IE 6, this dosent happen.
Searching a bit, I find that perhaps MSHTML.DLL needs to be re-registrered, but apparently this is not possible in IE 7 (regsvr32 claims that there is no entry point in the DLL).
Reinstalling IE7 ofcourse solves the problem, but the amount of workstations possibly affected is pretty large (around 50.000 all in all).
Any ideas ?

Same symptom, different cause: 3rd-party toolbars.
People are sometimes inadvertently installing Google Toolbar into their Internet Explorer.
This also causes the 'popup blocker' to appear when running BI Web Query,
We disable the Google Toolbar and then the BI Web Query works fine.
I guess this symptom might apply to other 'convenient' toolbars as well.

SAPGUI 7.10 patch application to installation server.

I set up SAPGUI 7.10 Installation server on windows. For 6.40,
when applying frontend patches, we use to follow the below procedure:
1) Log into service.sap.com.Click on Downloads.2) Click on support
packages and patch 3) Click on entry by application group.4) Click on
SAP Frontend Components 5) Click on SAPGUI for windows 6) Click on
SAPGUI for windows 6.40 7) Click on win32 and download following
patches BW 3.5 addon patch, sapgui for windows 6.40 patch and sapsetup
for sapgui 6.40. 8) Once all the required patches are downloaded, next
step is to create gui package using those patches. 9)Click on
SAPADMIN.exe, click on apply patch and the patches are applied in the
following order Setup patch, gui patch, BW patch. 10) Click on Browse
and go to the folder where the above patches are located and select the
patch that should be added to the package and click on open. 11) Then
click on install.12) Then you can check the version of installed
patches by click on View--> Server Monitor.
I would like to know, what is the equivalent procedure for SAPGUI 7.10
and where can I find document about it?

SAPGUI 7.20 patch level 7 crashes while working in ALV using drop downs

We have a set of users that work mostly in ALV transactions and can have a few open at the same time. They also use the drop downs quite frequently switching back and forth between ALV's. After working like this for awhile SAPGUI crahses.
Unfortunately we have not been able to re-create this issue so I have not entered an OSS message. The only constant is using ALV & drop downs.
We have done the following:
Patched the GUI - no help
upgraded pc's - These user received new pc's with higher memory & Windows 7 this helped slow down the amount of crashes occurring but did not eliminate them.
We have monitored the memory on the pc & that does not seem to be the issue.
Searched OSS, Google & SDN
They are using the Signature View and IE 8 .
Has anyone else experienced these issues or maybe have some suggestions on how to proceed?

Thanks for the response Jude.
I cannot say that all ALV users are affected or at least they are not reporting it. This particular group of users mainly works in ALV & with very large amount of data loaded into the ALV.
I watched the user this morning. She is filling in data using drop downs & ctrl C and ctrl V, just s few fields at a time. There was a note about copying large amount of data in ALV but that has been fixed & we have that patch.
I ran the nwcheckworkstation and it came back ok.
I wanted to trace the GUI but we cannot recreate the issue. So the trace would have to be running for sometime before the user crashes which is not even a guarantee and I am not too sure that is a good idea since traces usually produce large files. Also not too sure which GUI component to trace.

ISE 1.1.1 Patch 1 - Manifest.xml not found

Hi, guys.
Anyone already installed ISE 1.1.1 patch "ise-patchbundle-1.1.1.268-1-60802.i386.tar.gz" successfully ??
When trying to install it via gui, ise tells me that "manifest.xml" is not found in the archive ...
But when I open the archive, the file is in it, I can extract all files without error.
After doing some checking, I found out that the md5 hash and the filesize of the file I downloaded
are different ...

yes, I did, tried like twelve times, using different browsers, operating systems, with or without http proxies, .....
Always the same result: different hash, different size
Then I enter my question here, and magically one day later I can download a different file, this time with a correct hash
correct filesize, different archive content, but the same name ..... ;-)

Is the patch you're talking about for Leopard itself, or for
the extension? If the patch is for Leopard, I'd assume that You'd
have to get it from Apple, but I don't know where to look for that.
If the patch is for the extension, then you probably need to go to
the developer's site to see if the patch is posted there, or
contact the developer directly to see where this patch may be if
indeed it is necessary.

SAPGUI 7.20 patch level 5 problem with Modification Assistant

I'm using SAPGUI 720 patch level 5 on a Windows 7 sp1 machine. There is a serious issue with modification assistant not working properly.
For some reason it does not focus on the correct code line and automatic comments are not inserted either.
Anyone else facing this issue?

sounds as if this could be related to the correction from note 1569250 "Focus set to textedit toolbar on roundtrip".
I assume that a textedit control is used in the Modification Assistant - right?
If so the easiest solution for you is to apply hotfix 2 we published couple of days ago (hotfix 2 is available on SAP SMP).

SAPGui 7.20 Patch 6 - sapbarc.ocx - Error

APO users report an activex error when using /SAPAPO/CDPSO
Error is: Illegal objecttype in BarifEstimateChartforObject
I noted that the file in the Front End SAPGUI folder: sapbarc.ocx is changed with Patch 6
Previously we were at Patch 3.
Anyone else?

SAP NOTE 1584140 Simply documents it as a known issue and states it will be fixed with a future patch release. No workaround is provided thus there is 'Nothing' to apply with this note.
I really would like to know is it okay to simply replace the Patch 6 version of sapbarc.ocx with the one from Patch 3 which does not generate the error. I have four users testing with this configuration and no problems reported.

How to Uninstall(Revert) SAPGUI 7.10 patches alone from a PC

I am having SAPGUI 7.10 client and now I have installed the GUI patch level 11 in my PC. Since I am facing some issues, I would like to revert this patch alone to GUI 10 instead of completely reinstalling the SAPGUI application.
Kindly let me know the steps to remove a SAP GUI patch alone from the PC.

Hello Sarin,
it's not possible to remove just the patch, as patching the SAPGUI brings newer versions of existing files and older version are not stored somewhere.
So if you really want to go back to Patch 10 from 11 you have to uninstall SAPGUI and make a new installation of Patch 10.
But: What issues do you face with patch 11? Maybe they are fixed in Patch 12?

Patches to enable XML Publisher on NetApp - can you confirm?

Customer has version 11.5.9 of NetApp. He understood that a patch or several patches would be required to enable XML Publisher.
Can you confirm and if so, what are the patches (any metalink notes)?

We do not provide a VBA or .NET wrapper for the java APIs we provide. However, its not a huge task to call java from VBA. Just google, 'calling java from VBA'.
you can then have the java API libraries sitting on the local machine and just call the one you need.
