    Hi,
    As Bobby said, you need to install the SAPGUI for JAVA to access the SAP R/3 from your linux machine. The software is available in the following path,
    https://service.sap.com/swdc
    --> Installations and Upgrades
    --> Entry by Application Group
    --> SAP Frontend Components
    --> SAP GUI FOR JAVA
    --> SAP GUI FOR JAVA 7.20
    --> Installation
    The follwoing links gives an idea on how to install the SAP GUI for JAVA in Linux machines.

  • Tool for monitoring several linux desktops

    Hi i currently administer a small office all with linux machines. I also have a server that is up all the time. I'm looking for a tools to automate the processs of watching the desktops if they are behaving well. Something that is client-server. I can use the seerver that is always on to send me emails. I would like to monitor the desktops to see if they are healthy and replace parts or do mainteinace before they fail. Currently im working with very old computers so hard disk failure is common (one every two months), and also sometimes the users fill up the hard disk.
    Is there a tool that can send information from all these computers to a central server and then anaylze it? Im looking for info produced by smartmontools and df, and maybe other program, but im not looking for information on the network, as it is not very crucial and theyre desktop machines not servers.
    Ive looked at nagios but i think is overkill and mainly for servers.
    I just run around 12 computers with linux, all of them desktops except for one.
    Also is there a way to automate the update and installation of software of these machines? currently im using webmin cluster module for sending instructions to all of them, but it is rather clumsy.
    Is there such a tool, or should i relly in some custom solution, maybe bash scripts + ssh ?

    Unless your out of hard drive slots you have all those drives from the clients that keep going out.  If you had a backup tape system that would clear the single point of failure problem.  Of course, you can put the PXE install on a separate disk.
    hydrosIII wrote: i dont trust them as much as for putting rootless machines in the desktops
    The server that is serving the PXE clients, is impervious to the actual PXE installation.  It is efficient however to maintain, because you can use the main server's package cache (assuming you pay attention to differing architectures), and pacman into the PXE client installation specifying the PXE root for operations affecting the PXE installation.  You can run the PXE clients without disks in them.  On the windows side, there are windows installations via PXE and iSCSI.  Nothing says you can't use sshfs instead of nfs for  the clients.  You wouldn't need to necessarily log into the PXE clients root account to make changes.  Most of that could be done from the server that it resides on.  Point two is that the files actually serving the PXE clients can be on a totally different computer pointed to by DHCP.  You can turn the router DHCP off, and have the requests answered by Arch's dhcpd.

  • Linux desktop enviroments with different way of doing things?

    I was just thinking that big DE:s like KDE or GNOME have basically same way of doing things. You have start button, quicklaunch icons, taskbar, clock etc in same panel, Control Pan.. err Control Center, Same OK Cancel dialogs etc. These things remind me a lot about way things are done in Windows. Buttons may look different and be in different place but logic is all the same. I read this article about Microsoft being mad to Linux desktop systems about copying Windows interface: http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/ … on-missing
    OK The Inquirer isn't the most reliable news service but I think this article has some points. It also mentioned some DE:s that arent copied from any MS operating systems are WindowMaker (originating from NextSTEP?) and ROX. Well ROX isn't even fully capable to function as a DE and it needs something like sawfish to work properly I think. Then there are these console extensions like RatPoison and minimalistic environments like openbox, fluxbox, [somethingelse]box and FVWM but Im not that console junkie.
    Ive been lately messing with WindowMaker and ROX and found that ROX is a bit weird but it has a couple of funky ideas like putting minized windows on desktop but panel is quite crappy IMO. Even tough its quite usable with openbox. WindowMaker is more usable to me, I kinda like it.
    Is there more DE:s with original desing to mess with?

    pauldonnelly wrote:
    ROX is a full desktop. It's got a window manager (Oroborox, iirc), panels, and everything. Of course, there aren't so many ROX apps, so you can't run a pure ROX desktop and get anything done. Its best idea, IME, is drag and drop saving and the elimination of mini-filers (open/save dialogs). It's a shame that there aren't more apps that support DnD save though. I think that's something that every program would do well to implement.
    Ratpoison isn't a console extension, BTW. It's a tiling window manager like any other. Other tiling WMs you might like to look at are wmii, dwm, and Xmonad.
    You should check out the Rio window manager in the plan9port package. It's pretty clever. On an actual Plan 9 system you run programs by creating a new window (new windows always contain rc, Plan 9's shell), then running a program in it. If it's a GUI program it takes over the window from the shell, keeping the same dimensions and everything. Very cool.
    I didn't notice Oroborox. Does it come with rox package in extra? I messed some more with ROX and it has some widgets but those have to be installed trough some zeroconfiguration tool and I dont like it.
    GAH the curse of mouse is touching my right hand again. Caused probably my daily job involving lots of MS. Thats why I'm looking for alternative dimension to escape nightly

  • Not able to connect Azure Linux Virtual Machine with Putty

    Hi,
    I am not bale to connect Azure Linux Virtual Machine with Putty... Error shows "Network error: connection timed out".
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Techsol
    Thanks, Kk

    Hi TechSol01,
    Thanks for posting here.
    I suggest you to try the below steps
    On a computer running a Windows operating system, you might want to use an SSH client such as PuTTY. For more information, see the
    PuTTY Download Page.
    On a computer running a Linux operating system, you might want to use an SSH client such as OpenSSH. For more information, see
    OpenSSH.
    If it is the endpoint configuration, you can go to the portal and add port 22, (it should already be there by default).
    Now if it is locked out of the VM because of the firewall on the VM, which is called iptables , You won't be able to connect to the VM,
    If you haven’t configured the port 22. You may have to follow the below steps :
    A = Original VM (Inaccessible VM)
    B = New VM (New Temp VM)
    1)  Stop VM  A via the Azure management portal
    2) Delete VM A BUT select “keep the attached disks”
    3) Once the lease is cleared, attach the Data Disk from A to VM B via the Azure Portal, Virtual Machines, Select “B”, Attach Disk
    4) On VM “B” eventually the disk will attach and you can then mount it.
    5) Locate the drive name to mount, on VM “B” look in relevant log file note each linux is slightly different.
    grep SCSI /var/log/kern.log (ubuntu)
    grep SCSI /var/log/messages (centos, suse, oracle)
    6) Mount the attached disk onto mountpoint /tempmount
    df -h
    mkdir /tempmount
    mount /dev/sdc1 /tempmount
    df –h
    7) Now you should be able to clear the rules set from the configuration file of the firewall, by accessing it
    through /tempmount
    Let me know if this works

    I have only the Mac instal disk.  Is it possible somehow to switch my version from my Mac to my Windows desktop machine?
    Presumably in addition to the install disc, you also have a serial number. If not, you're in a for a world of hurt later on if you ever reinstall, etc.
    But almost certainly your university has licensed ID via a volume licensing mechanism. And my understanding of Adobe volume licensing, in the US at least, is that you always get the license for both platforms, never just one. So there is probably someone at your University who has the Windows serial number for CS5. This then becomes a challenge of finding this person and getting them to either tell you the serial number or to type it into your computer for you. It won't cost them anything, so think of it as a fun challenge (Scavenger hunt!).
    Oh, you'll also need to get media for CS5 Windows. That shouldn't be too challenging though. Worst case the guy with the serial numbers should be able to download it for you from licensing.adobe.com. But then the problem changes from taking 10 seconds of his/her time to type a number into taking A While to download a few GB and figuring out how to get it onto your computer, unzip it, and finally do the 10 second thing.

  • SRSS 4.2 Kiosk for Virtual Linux Desktop?

    Hello All,
    I currently have SRSS 4.2 with SRWC 2.2 installed on Solaris 10 and I able to get everything working for a full virtual Windows XP desktop running on ESX 4U1in a kiosk session. My question then is, does SRSS 4.2 support full virtual Redhat/Linux desktops? If so, what is required? Is there and add-on that I need to install like SRWC for windows? Or can I simply enable the remote desktop feature in RHEL.
    Thank you all for your help.

    Hi All,
    After a few days of researching, then trial and error I was able to use this [http://blogs.sun.com/ThinkThin/entry/point_and_shoot_vdi1|http://blogs.sun.com/ThinkThin/entry/point_and_shoot_vdi1] as my kiosk session. I was then able to send a windows vm session to my DTU. For Redhat linux I installed this [http://xrdp.sourceforge.net/|http://xrdp.sourceforge.net/] , which enable me to use the windows remote desktop protocol, thus enabling me to use the linux vm session on my DTU. For your information, the xrdp so far logs in with a KDE desktop. I am looking into switching it to the GNOME desktop.
    Well that does it for me. I can now get either a windows or linux vm desktop to my DTU.

  • EBS forms not opening in Linux client machine

    Hi all,
    In our network some client machines are linux (redhat 4) and when we access the EBS (11.5.10) thru browser (Mozilla firefox) , it works until clicking icon for forms.
    There is no java applet opening. What should we do invoke oracle apps forms.
    regards
    ravi

    There is no jinit for Linux. You need to configure the Linux instance to open the 1.5.0 sun java plugin that you have installed on your Linux client machine.
    The resolution is in the link provided by hsawwan:
    Go to $APPL_TOP/admin, and in sid_host.xml ($CONTEXT_FILE),
    replace
    <sun_plugin_ver oa_var="s_sun_plugin_ver">1.4.2_04</sun_plugin_ver>
    with
    <sun_plugin_ver oa_var="s_sun_plugin_ver">1.5.0_13</sun_plugin_ver>
    Then run autoconfig.
    Or cd to $OA_HTML/bin and edit appsweb_sid_host.cfg:
    Search for the lines:
    ; 4a) Sun JDK Plugin Parameters
    ; These parameters define the Sun's java plug-in to be used
    sun_plugin_mimetype=application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.4.2_04
    sun_plugin_classid=clsid:CAFEEFAC-0014-0002-0004-ABCDEFFEDCBA
    sun_plugin_url=http://host.domain:port/OA_HTML/oajinit.exe
    sun_plugin_version=1.4.2_04
    sun_plugin_legacy_lifecycle=false
    change the 1.4.2_04 entries to 1.5.0_13
    sun_plugin_mimetype=application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.5.0_13
    sun_plugin_classid=clsid:CAFEEFAC-0015-0000-0013-ABCDEFFEDCBA
    sun_plugin_url=http://host.domain:port/OA_HTML/oajinit.exe
    sun_plugin_version=1.5.0_13
    And bounce apache and forms server.
    This way, WIndows users still open with Jinitiator. This change has no effect for Windows users.

  • Networking arch linux virtual machine networking

    For a project, I've got an arch linux virtual machine running on the school network. The image has SSH installed and that works just fine, the problem is that the network admin didn't give it access to the internet (so I can access it only over lan). What I would like to do is run updates on it and install several libraries that I need for deploying a web application (rails). The easy way to install them is obviously through pacman, which leads me to my question: Is there a way to make a network interface on the server that would use ssh to make a bridged connection to the internet?
    Not super sure if I worded that correctly, but it seems that it ought to be possible to have a network interface on the vm that, when the vm opens an ssh connection to some ssh server (on the lan) allows the vm to use that connection for more than just ssh.
    Thanks.

    I was making this too complicated... I set up a squid proxy on a different machine and it all works well.

    Many thanks for any advice.

    You don't need conversion programs, iTunes can copy most of your content over to the iPad via the file sharing section, and some apps also support Dropbox, email attachments, transfer via your wifi network. There are a number of apps that you can get that support Microsoft office file (microsoft don't make an app versions of their software) e.g. from Apple there are Pages (word support), Numbers (excel) and Keynote (powerpoint), and from third-parties there are apps such as Documents To Go and QuickOffice HD

  • "Flexible" Linux desktops remain marked as 'Used' despite being powered off

    I remember reading in the release notes for VDI3 Patch #2 that non-Windows OS such as Linux should now be properly 'recycled' as well (I thought that this was why VirtualBox was upgraded from 2.0.8 to 2.0.10)
    Either I am doing something wrong or there is still a bug ... But on the POC setup I am currently working on the recycling just never ever happens. Linux VM's are still being considered as being "in use" despite having been powered off. I played with the power management settings so the Linux VM should automagically go to 'sleep' after a few minutes of idle time. If I don't do that the Linux VM's are running forever. I also tried playing with the Kiosk timeout settings. The default was "12000" seconds, so for the sake of testing I put it as low as 300 seconds (= 5 minutes). But this too doesn't change anything.
    So the big question here: How can I force VDI3 to consider Linux desktops as being "Idle" and thus "unused" so it would properly trigger the desktop recycling?
    EDIT: Right now I am using this shell script as 'Workaround' ... You'd just need to add it to a "cron" job or something like that. Comments on improving this rig are welcome :-)
    #! /usr/bin/bash
    FLEXVDAPOOLS=`/opt/SUNWvda/sbin/vda pool-list | /usr/bin/tail +2 | /usr/bin/grep 'flexible' | /usr/bin/awk {' print $1 '}`
    for POOL in $FLEXVDAPOOLS
        do
            export POOL
    # The following line should countain exactly 10 x whitespaces between the words 'Powered Off' and 'Used' on the same line
            /opt/SUNWvda/sbin/vda desktop-delete `/opt/SUNWvda/sbin/vda pool-desktops $POOL | /usr/bin/grep 'Powered Off          Used' | /usr/bin/awk {' print $2 '}`
    done
    unset POOL.
    Edited by DJ .... My workaround is working.

    If the user powers off the desktop (instead of just logout),
    then the desktop is not correctly detected as idle. Sorry, but this does not seem to be true. If the user really shuts down the VM then VDI3 does correctly detect the VM as being "idle" and initiates the recycling. What we did here is that we configured the Ubuntu VM's to go into hibernation after 15 minutes if they're idle. I know, I know: Hibernation doesn't work. That's not the point. The point is that VM's won't consume too many resources on the desktop provider if they are idle. To VDI and VirtualBox such a "hibernating" system appears to be "Powered Off" as well, so we assumed it would trigger the recycling too. But it just doesn't happen, such an auto-hibernated Ubuntu VM is still being considered as being "Used" ... which is kind of silly: How can it be "used" if it's "Powered Off"? Especially since we're talking about a flexible pool. By logic a VM can't be "used" in a flexible pool if it's "Powered Off". Hence my workaround above (customer is very happy with it).
    I share Dirk's view ... this seems to be a bug. VDI should regard "Powered Off" VM's as being "Idle", especially if they are in a "flexible" pool.
