SAPINST Repeatedly Checking Installed SCS Instance !

Hi Gurus,
We are installing PI 7.0 on Solaris / Oracle platform. We have one Physical Server Having multiple logical instance ( no physical
partition, just logical partitions ) . SCS is installed successfully, without any issue.
On that same physical box, once the SCS is installed on X Logical Partition ,  to install the DB Instance on the other logical partition Y , we set SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME = xxxxxxdb ( this is logical host for db instance + db ) and EACH time we launch the SAPInst and what happen repeatedly is :
- SAPInst first displays the message " Invalid Parameter  xxxxxx and xxxxxxdb
- Next SAPInst displays the msg " Instllation of SCS Completed Successfully "
- Next when we click on ' ok ' button , SAPInst  simply disappears without even displaying the Home Page of SAPInst, which
will have all the options for the various SAP Systems
SAPINST.LOG has following entry
<<<<<<<<<<<

Any Suggestion that, why the SAPInst will behave in such weired way each time, we attempt to launch SAPInst on different
logical host i.e. XXXXXDB and still it will simply keep checking that SCS Instance has completed successfully and then
disappear ??!
Any / ALL inputs are welcome and your time and efforts are highly appreciated.
Thanks,

Are you using the same installation directory by chance? I've noticed this type of behavior when you re-use an installation directory (with all the log files and so on).
Hope that helps.

    Hi Lisa,
From my understanding, SCS instance is typically installed on CI host, instead of DB host.
SCS could be installed on any OS supported by SAP (Windows, unix/linux, OS/400, etc)
    Thank you,

    Hi Lisa,
SCS (J2EE message and enqueue service) should be installed on CI.
BTW, SCS is a must in every environment if you are using SAP J2EE stack (from 640).

  • Install BW7 ABAP+JAVA, why is SCS instance nr set to 00?

    Hi,
we are trying to install BW7 ABAP+JAVA, and SAPinst defaulted the SCS instance nr to be 00, and the CI nr to be 01. We cannot change this values from the SAPinst screen. We want CI to be 00 and SCS to be 01. Anyway to do this? Thanks.

You could try putting a dummy sapmsXXX and dummy SCS profile in /sapmnt/<other_sid>/profile to fool SAPINST into thinking there's already an instance running on sysnr 00.
Why do you want to reverse the SCS and CI instance numbers though?

  • Sapinst.exe SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME= virtual hostname of (A)SCS instance

    Hi all,
For starting installation on HA systems with following command  INST_USE_HOSTNAME=<virtual hostname of (A)SCS instance>
    <virtual hostname of (A)SCS instance> points to SAP<SID> or GPSYSTEM  ?
GPSYSTEM is name of virtual host created during MSCS ,  or SAP<SID> which is created for A(SCS)..
Which is used for starting , However i have started with GPSYSTEM, resulting in some issues, therefore is suspect. Please advice.
    Thanks,
    Rahul

This host name need be the name which you put in 7.4.2 step 10(when you create the client access point, you also need assign a IP address to this name in your public network, this is refer teh installation guide for ehp4, not ehp5), if your DNS setting haven't done the resolution for this virtual host name, you need put a entry to you hosts file, for example, if you use virtual host name is GPSYSTEM, your hosts in nodeA and nodeB need have below line:
<IP address for this virtual host>   GPSYSTEM
Later on after finish this installation, you can let network team add it to your DNS setting.  you need can ping GPSYSTEM after you finish 7.4.2 and bring the access point online. You need use sapinst.exe SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=GPSYSTEM to do the installation.
BTW, you should add all your three virtual host name into your hosts file or setup in DNS at first, the three virtual hosts is:
    virtual host for failover cluster
    virtual host for DB
virtual host for ASCS(suppose you only need ABAP stack), below is my hosts before setup it in DNS
172.30.15.30     DBPRD    #virtual host for db
172.30.15.31     SAPPRD #virtual host for ASCS
172.30.15.32     CSPRD   #virtual host for failover cluster

  • How to check the availability of a SCS-Instance

    Hi.
We want to use HP serviceguard for our HA solution - but we do not want to pay so much money for the SAP serviceguard extensions. So we do it ourselves...
My question: how to check the availability of the SCS-Instance on regular basis on os level?
    - is it enough to check the enqueue and message server process? I don't think so :o)
    - is it enough to check the latest entry of this file?
    /usr/sap/<SID>/SCS<SYSNR>/work/available.log
some typical entry of this file looks like these:
    Unavailable 30.04.2009 17:03:07 - 04.05.2009 11:32:33
    Available   04.05.2009 11:33:33 - 05.05.2009 17:33:05
    Available   05.05.2009 17:35:36 - 05.05.2009 17:35:36
    Available   05.05.2009 17:37:51 - 06.05.2009 08:49:11
    Other ideas?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
what type of script you want to run at OS level, u can check the status in MMC itself if you are using windows or u can check the status in index.html informaiton page or u can use JCMON at OS level to check the status.

    Hi Praveen,
It looks to be more permission issue rather than space issue. Ensure the file system where you copied the DVD has full permission.
Check the installation logs for more details on which other file system needs full permission and work accordingly.

  • What are the steps to Install adialog instance - Java

I have installed the SCS, database and Central instance. They all work fine. I need to install a dialog instance on another LPAR (AIX).
    1) Do I run the install from the server where i want the dialog instance or from the CI Server?
    2) Do I need any filesystems mounted from the Central Instance server?
According to the documentation I would say no, but it asks you for the profile directory during the install.
    3) Is there anything else I need to do to get the install going?
Once installed do I start it from the CI server using something like startsap all? If so how does the CI know about the DI instance?
    Thanks
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
    1) Do I run the install from the server where i want the dialog instance or from the CI Server?
Run install from where you want to install dialog instance.
    2) Do I need any filesystems mounted from the Central Instance server?
    Yes! mount the profile filesystem.
    3) Is there anything else I need to do to get the install going?
Check the installation guide as well as SAP OSS notes.
Once installed do I start it from the CI server using something like startsap all?
You can start java dialog instance from DI server using startsap/stopsap JC<instance number>
    Hope this will help.

    Hello Maciek
there is an db2icrt.log.<Number> in the /tmp directory , that should match your db2icrt issued by sapinst . Please check this file first for error messages .
    This message
"MDB-01006 DBI1010W The "-w" option specified in the db2icrt, db2iupdt or db2ilist command was ignored.
is just a warning , that the -w Option of db2icrt issued by sapinst is deprecated and ignored by db2icrt of newer DB2 versions . This message should not indicate the source of the problem .
Usually there is also the entire db2icrt instruction with parameters in sapinst_dev.log and you can run this db2icrt manually as root .
    There is also an
       -d          turn debug mode on.
parameter for debugging db2icrt issues , but this you should use , when db2icrt also does not run when issued manually as root .
Also check , whether you have created the home directory for db2<db2sid> /db2/db2<db2sid> properly with the proper permissions .
    Best regards

  • Failed to initialize the network. Check if another instance of agent is

Out of the blue a small number of my Windows XP PCs get the following error
when logging in. Usually appears while login script page is on screen:-
Failed to initialize the network. Check if another instance of agent is
    running. Contact the system administrator
Once XP has loaded ok I can manually start the Remote Management service.
Some PCs are intermittent and don't seem to get it again but a couple get it
every login. I removed the client and reinstalled. I removed the Remote
Management service and re-installed. Re-registered the PC Workstation but no
change for those who get it every day.
    I did find this:-
Failed to initialize the network. Check if another instance of agent is
    running. Contact the system administrator
    Source: Remote Management Agent
    Severity: Critical
Possible Cause: The Remote Management Agent is unable to bind to the IPX or
IP port that is being used for Remote Management service, or the ports are
being used by some other application running on the managed workstation.
Action: Uninstall any third-party remote control agent or remote control
application using these ports from the managed workstation.
Possible Cause: The protocol stack is corrupted.
    Action: Reinstall the protocol stack.
Possible Cause: The managed workstation is not connected to the network, or
    the network is down.
Action: Connect the managed workstation to the network.
I don't have any third party remote control agent installed and I've tried
the refresh of the IP protocol stack. Surprised this has started as we have
not made any changes to the network or software. We run NW Client 4.83sp1
    and NW5.1 sp5.
Anybody else had this and cleared it completely?

    Further developments:
It looks like it's a fault in the nic. it's a Compaq NC3120 Fast Ethernet
card. It used to work, but since I've wiped out the card drivers that were
in use, I'm at HP's mercy. They are telling me that the card is no longer
under warranty and won't even tell me what driver to look for. Anything I've
managed to find has the exact same symptoms:
Client works, ping to IP addresses work, ping to www.yahoo.com (etc) doesn't
work, although winipcfg shows a DNS server the same as every other machine I
    have.
Internet explorer doesn't work, even with IP addresses to local servers.
    And of course, zenrc32 doesn't work, wsreg32 doesn't work.
Does anyone know of a way of making the NC3120 work on a win98 machine?
Shall I just go buy a couple dozen netcards from a more reputable company
    than compaq?
