Sapphire Radeon 9500 still a no-go with my K7N2-L

Well, it's been awhile and I'm still getting the run around.  MSI says the Radeon is bad, and Sapphire says the motherboard is bad.
Here's the short story.  I have a Sapphire 9500 (black PCB) 128, x8AGP.  When I install it, the system does not boot.  (Check sig for system specs.)  The D-led indicates a failed CPU.
The Sapphire works in other computers.
My system is currently using a Nvidia Aopen Geforce 2 64MB without a problem.
Has anyone managed to work around this?
What bios settings for the K7N2-L will work?  I've increased the aperture size before switching the cards to 128, and it still doesn't work.
Is there a voltage / power problem?
Thanks..
This will probably be the last time I deal with problem.

  • Kt4V L and Radeon 9500 pro= no overclock

Hi, just wondering if anyone has been able to overclock successfully with a KT4V L (VIA KT 400 chipset )and a Radeon 9500 pro. The system will overclock with my old Ge force 2 no problem. But moving the fsb even 1 or 2 Mhz over 166 with the Radeon installed and CRASH !! I've tried everything ,increased voltage on proc. vid card and ram, loosend ram timings , heat isn't an issue temps are ok. Pwr supply should be ok as I'm getting or slightly exceeding voltages across all rails.
Have  tried with one stick of ram (pc 3200) and with both sticks in( one 3200 and one 2700) All my drivers are the newest including chipset and vidcard. The Radeon does have the modded bios installed to enable overclocking and it overclocks like a champ !  I know the ATI cards have issues with the VIA KT 400 chipset but the system runs rock solid at 166 fsb. Anyway if anyone has had any luck please let me know or if anyone has any ideas on overclocking this thing. Thanks !
Specs: MSI KT4V L mobo, AMD Barton 2500 XP Superlocked processor (I tried unlocking ,no luck) one stick 512mb pc 3200 and one stick 512 mb 2700, Sapphire Radeon 9500 pro with unlocked bios, Enermax 350W psu, one WD 80gb 7200 hdd,one Maxtor 30gb 5400 hdd, cd burner,cd rom Antec Plusview 1000 AMG ,Thermaltake Volcano 9 heatsink and fan. AND 11,650 3dMark 2001se score.
    Wanna get it over 13000.

The 9500pro is a great card. It does have the 9700pro bios in it. That was the first thing I did to it when I got it last year Got the core at 310Mhz but the memory maxes out around 281Mhz.
The amperages across the rails are as follows 3.3V is 32A, 5V is 32A and the 12 V is 26A. The -5V and -12V are both 1A and the =5Vsb is 2.2A .
I have already tried overclocking with one ram stick . Using both the 3200 and the 2700 seperately.
I've also set the vid card to stock settings and still no OC.

  • Probs with k8t neo and radeon 9500 non pro

    Hi!
I´m totaly new with amd and i got a msi k8t neo and a sempron 2800+ with 1gb memory and a saphire radeon 9500 non pro and the computer does not start with that graphiccard. The processor fan just spins up a bit then it dies. But with a gforce 5200 card the computer works fine. I have tryed the saphire card in my server with a P4 1,6ghz and on that motherboard it works just fine.
Im from sweden so my english is not the best ;-)

Yes i have tryed all those things. But my card works perfectly in 2 diffrent computers. So i dont think that the vidccard is broken.. But what do i know...
Well you know that othergfx cards do work oin ur board, so I still say you RMA it, or swap if with another card that will work

  • HDMI Sound with Sapphire RADEON HD 5450

Hey guys, just installed Arch for my desktop computer, and I am having some troubles to get the HDMI sound to work. I have tried the xf86-video-ati driver, and I have tried to install the catalyst package from AUR, but its complaining about the catalyst-utils package even I have installed the package. So, is there anyone who have successfully gotten the sound to work with HDMI and the ATI driver? PS. I alsa have a Radeon HD 4200 on my motherboard, but are not using it.
When I use "aticonfig --initial" to generate my xorg.conf I get the following error:

    Hi.
The only easy way I found to make hdmi audio work and  on my 4850 was with pulseaudio applet (gnome-media-pulse) and the open radeon drivers (xf86-video-ati). With catalyst I can't, even in windows. Anyway radeon driver doesn't support your card yet  " http://www.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature  ".
Before this, I remember that with smplayer I could select the hdmi audio driver and it worked.

  • Installing a Radeon 9500 Pro...

So I just got in the my new motherboard and CPU, and went to put in my Radeon.
Now, I had just formatted my hard drive and fresh installed Windows XP Pro.
I went and downloaded the newsest drivers for the motherboard (in my specs), and installed them.  However, in hardware device manager in "Other Devices" there still sits "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)".  This makes me think that the video drivers are still not installed properly.
Then I put in my Radeon, and it was able to find the card and everything, but when I tried to install the Catalyst Drivers, I get an error saying:
    "Error Extracting Support Files:
The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect"
The Video Drivers get installed, but the Control Panel for the Radeon doesn't show up and most of the games crash with errors I've never seen before.
Anybody else try to get a Radeon 9500 Pro installed on a K7N2G-L motherboard?  Any ideas from anyone?

Ok, so I'm going to try putting in the Card first, and see how that goes.
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_3.13
So that is the right driver I want for the motherboard?  Not the ones that came in the box.  Just skip over when it asks about installing the video portion, or will it just ignore that if I put in the video card first?  I ask that becuase I tried putting in the video card before installing the OS, and when I tried to install the motherboard drivers it wouldn't work, but that seems like it would be the same issue, just reversed (Nvidia drivers trying to install over ATi drivers).
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=398&kind=1
And on that page, the BIOS at the top are the ones I want, correct?
I just hate installing stuff that I'm unsure if it's the thing I need.
[edit] - Oh yeah, and about the updated Catalyst Drivers (3.10), I can't update to those yet.  That computer isn't hooked up to the net, and the 3.10 drivers require you to have the Service Pack 1 installed in XP, which you have to get from the net.  If I can get the earlier versions working properly, then I will transfer the computer in this room and get it online, download SP1a for XP, then update the Catalyst drivers.

  • K7N2 AND radeon 9500 : NO post!!

    Hallo @ all!
    I have a big problem.
i read some similar issues all over the forum with the K7n2 and radeon 9500/9700 and Kingston RAM.
    Well, i have 2x 256 MB 333 cl 2.5 kingston ram.
when i use the radeon 9500 non pro 128 MB, the fan just moves a short time and the system is off and can only be put on after PSU switched off.
So I cant switch on my SYSTEM ! (
    PSU enermax 365 (3.3V 32A    5V 32A )
the graphics card works, tested on ECS K7S5a AND MSI KT400!
    with SAME PSU.
AGP is OK tested with GF 2 mx.
but not the combination 9500 AND K7N2.
    im so sad!
i have to run the syst with a VODDO BANSHEE :-(
the system is ok, if i remove the 4 pol aux power plug from the graphics card, BUT: then the graph card hinders system from booting. (intentionally , its made by sapphire)
If sombody has a solution or a tipp PLZ PLZ PLZ help.
    Greetings, JENS.

    Hello!
I found a "solution". although u cant call it so... .
Well, 1st i tried an enermax 465 watts, but of course, the problem is the same.
the fans just moves 1 sec and then u cant do another till u switch PSU off/on.
its no RAM problem, because system ran fine with voodoo banshee PCI.
    so i tried sth. "brave" :-D .
but what should happen bad, if the Graphics card is layed out for the 12V ???
I removed the 12v Power plug, booted the system till the Warning: plug in 12V aux power in ur radeon 9700....
(i posted before, that system starts till this point when power plug (12V) is removed).
And then I plugged in and hit the RESET button:
    See, system booted well *sheesh*.
But, its no solution due to its necessary any start....
So, would U built in a delayed switch, which overtakes this work, or would u send in the Mainboard?
    Greetings, Jens.
What a curies thing a PC is...

  • K8N Neo Platinum & Sapphire Radeon 9600

Okay, so this issue has been addressed in a few places, but I couldn't seem to find a definitive answer.
Is the Sapphire Radeon 9600 incompatible with the MSI K8N Neo Platinum motherboard?
    Here's my story:
Just upgraded my case, motherboard and CPU (see sig for specs)
Clean install of Windows XP Pro, SP2
Installed ATI Catalyst drivers from ATI website
Reboot and Windows Device Manager shows an error with my video card.  "The device cannot start (Code 10)"  Now this is odd because I just pulled this video card out of my old P3 system and it worked like a charm.
Did some research on the forums, and I've tried all of the following:
    Changed AGP voltage from 1.5 -> 1.6
    Turned FastWrites on AND off
    Installed Omega drivers instead
Used Shift-F2 & Alt-F3 in BIOS to turn off NV/ATI Speedup
Installed new Antec PSU with 21A 12V rail (which should be more than 'nuff to just power my mobo, CPU, vid card, and hard drive, which is all I plugged in to it)
All to no avail.  I still have the exact same problem.  Is there a fundamental incompatability issue here, or am I just doing something wrong?  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Specifically, if anyone has this mobo/vid card combination, I'd like to know how you set it up and what I need to tweak.  Thanks!
oh, I'm running BIOS v1.4  (MSI tech support told me to upgrade to latest BIOS and it'd be okay.  They lied.   :-P)

I managed to fix my problem:
    Format C:/
    Install Windows XP
    Install Service Pack 1
Install motherboard drivers using MSI LiveUpdate 3
    Install ATI Catalyst v.1.0.1796.585
Celebrate when your video card works properly.
Yell and cuss at Service Pack 2.
Now I usually don't subscribe to the "Microsoft sucks" school, but it does seem that in this case, they were the problem.
Anyways, it's all working now.  I just hope I don't run into the "freezing in games" problem that others have posted about.
Thanks to both of you for your help.  I do appreciate it.

  • Radeon 9500-9700 and KT400 (MSI KT4V)

    hey,
I currently use a Radeon 8500 with an MSI KT4V (KT400 chipset) mobo. Can I safely upgrade to a Radeon 9500/9700 video card -- I understand that these cards are quite power hungry and to be safe I'll also be upgrading my 350W PSU (3.3+5V=216W) to an Antec 400W+ PSU.
Are there any other issues with regards compatibility (I know that there are some issues with Linux and KT400's AGP 3.0/8X support, but I only plan on using WinXP Pro). Would I need the AGP8X/AGP 3.0 to AGP4X/AGP 2.0 hardware hack in order to use my video card (as the current motherboard BIOS doesn't allow me to set the AGP mode)?
Also I've read many posts on Usenet and the MSI forums regarding problems with the earlier versions of the Radeon 9500/9700 cards -- have these issues been addressed in the later revisions of these cards (or the Radeon 9600/9800 series??)
Any other issues with regards BIOS revisions, VIA 4-in-1 drivers, etc that I need to be aware about?
    best,
    vin

    bogeyman,
i'm not pointing fingers at msi or via or ati. all i want to know is whether i can safely use an ati dx9 series video card with my msi/via kt400 mobo. i've read several posts with varied workarounds and am confused as hell. considering that a 9500 would cost around $200, i just want to be safe than sorry. here are some of the workarounds i've read about:
    1. 8x to 4x hardware hack
    2. increasing agp voltage to 1.7-1.8 (still don't know how this is possible as an agp3.0/8x card uses 0.8volts if i remember correctly)
    3. uninstalling the via hyperion agp drivers (does this degrade performance considerably? i know the default winxp drivers don't have fast write capability)
    4. setting agp speed to 4x using powerstrip (provided i can boot )
    5. changing the psu
    6. avoid sharing of IRQs with the radeon video card
so all i'm looking for is a "sure, go ahead and spend $200, but also remember to do this..."
    best,
    vin
ps: i've been running an ati radeon 8500 card for 18 months now and i love it, but sadly it's become a bottleneck in newer games.

  • How many Sapphire Sapphire RADEON R9 270X can i install in my mac pro 2009?

How many of the graphics cards can I install in my mac pro 2009? Sapphire Sapphire RADEON R9 270X
    Thanks

Why? do you use FCP-X? that will benefit from two. Also gaming in Windows where you can use Crossfire
You have two 6-pin power feeds so you will need a small 450W PSU - those come with two 8-pin and two 6-pin.
Those can often fit in the optical drive bay and cost $25-75 range.
"500W" is NOT for the card! that is the minimum PC PSU only!
when buying look for card that uses only two 6-pin and not an 8-pin power.
75W for the PCIe slot, and 150W from two 6-pin cables, most GPUs fall into the 200-250W at maximum stress levels8-pin is basically two 6-pins and 150W feed
    > we CrossFired a pair of Radeon R9 270s in our 2010 Mac Pro tower. Under Windows 7 64bit Ultimate, it registered 145 FPS in the Diablo test.
    http://barefeats.com/tube06.html
Keep in mind that the Mac Pro tower can't feed enough power to the dual 980s, dual 290Xs, or dual 7950s.
We used an auxillary power supply to compensate.
For the hard core GPU rendering, there are external expansion boxes with their own power supplies.
In an earlier article, we featured the Cubix Xpander which facilitated the connection of 5 GPUs to the Mac Pro tower.
If you favor an AMD GPU like the Radeon R9 290X, MacVidCards can modify it to run at PCIe 2.0 bandwidth in your Mac Pro tower.

    Things to keep in mind:
The Radeon R9 280X we used was 'un-flashed.' It booted OS X fine but there was no startup screen. Also, when we checked the speed of CPU-to-PCIe-to-CPU communication, it appeared to be running in PCIe 1.0 mode instead of PCIe 2.0. However, unless the GPU intensive app saturates the PCIe 1.0 bandwidth, it will not run any faster in PCIe 2.0 mode. http://barefeats.com/tube12.html

  • MD230X3 + Sapphire Radeon HD 6970 = Will it work?

    Hey
So I'm building an editing suite soon, and I recently came across a really good deal on the monitors I want so I ended up buying them. The setup is the Samsung MD230X3 (link below).
    http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=57530&vpn=LS23MUQHB%2FZA&manufacture=Sams ung&promoid=1261
It came with a Sapphire Radeon HD 6970, so my questions are:
    1) will the video card work in the mac pro system (with full support)
    2) do I NEED the 6970 or can I sell it?
I am looking at getting the new Mac Pro 8 core system.
    Thank you.

You might find an answer by digging around here:

Before I was fortunate enough to purchase my own legitimate MacBook Pro, one might have had OSX working on his Toshiba Qosmio by installing a few modded kexts. (like I had to write my own audio kext with help from members of that community)
It'll take some tech savvy for sure, but I too have the HD6970 on my Windows desktop and it runs like a dream. I'm certain SOMEONE out there has a working kext for this card. In fact, there was a fully working HD4870 kext circulating in this community well before Apple adopted the card and wrote one.

  • Sapphire Radeon HD 6990 4GB GDDR5 good?

Hey work the Sapphire Radeon HD 6990 4GB GDDR5 with my motherboard MSI 770-c45?
is the card for hardcore gaming?

Of course that $800 card is for UHC gaming.
With CPU considered, rather get 6790 with a decent PSU, and save the rest of the money.
    Cheerz.

  • Sapphire Radeon HD4850 X2 2GB DDR3 VS. The Rest

    Sapphire Radeon HD4850 X2 2GB DDR3 Dual DVI / TVO PCI-Express Graphics Card
Wouldnt this be just as good if not better than running dual 5800 Series?
Basically 2G Per Card.  Has same stats as 4 1G DDR3 GPUS in 2 Cards.
Wouldnt this be Good or better in Crossfire than the standard 1G 5800 Series?
    Thoughs

If you compare the benchmarks then the 4870 X2 compares very well with the 5770 in CF mode or 5870 as single card.
So, I would say a 5870 in CF mode would really be the ultimate barring the 5970, being basically a 5870 X2.
The power consumption of the new 5XXX series is obviously a big consideration as well, supposedly a big improvement over the previous 4XXX generation.
But do some homework on the following pages:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gaming-graphics-cards-charts-2009-high-quality-update-3/benchmarks,70.html
There you can get a fair comparison on a per game and also benchmark basis.

  • Sapphire Radeon 9800XT

Recently i bought a Sapphire Radeon 9800XT. I already know that it appears to be normal for the card to get hot. Personnally mine has a constant temp of 66°C in idle status. Now that may be normal but it crashes during COD gameplay and on top of that it also crashed during a standard aquamark3 benchmark.
It's not the previous (nvidia) drivers problem since i did a clean install (format c:\).
I'm not sure if it's a heat problem, my case (mentionned further on) has four fans, three intake (i think) one exhaust.
Following tech. details of my machine:
    .CPU intel pentium 4 - 2.6GHz
    .MSI mobo 875P NEO series
.Video Card (Model: RADEON 9800 XT; Driver: ati2mtag.sys)
.Sound Card (Manufacturer: Creative Technology Ltd.) Model: Creative AudioPCI
    .RAM 512mb
    .Zalman psu 400W
    .Case=ThermalTake Lanfire (http://www.thermaltake.com/xaserCas...ire/vm2000a.htm)
    Core centre:
    Vcore=1.63v
    3.3v=3.36v
    +5v=5.00v
    +12v=11.76v
    cpu temp=35°C
    sys temp=33°C
    NB temp=65°C
    case temp (idle status)=25.3°C
    CPU fan speed=+/- 2700rpm
    NB fan speed=+/- 4115rpm
    Any help would be appreciated.

There used to be a problem with CoD crashing when FastWrites were enabled.  Disabling them in the BIOS and on the SmartGART tab fixed it.

  • MSI Z77A-G45 & Sapphire Radeon HD 7850?

Hi all, I have purchased the MSI Z77A-G45 Mainboard along with a Sapphire Radeon HD 7850. I just finished my build yesterday and got windows 7 professional installed without a hitch. This was using an HDMI cable to connect my monitor directly to the mainboard. For some reason, my computer cannot detect my video card (7850). Under device manager, it shows that the display adapter is a standard VGA. I know the video card is working because I just tested it on a friend's computer and it ran perfectly with drivers installed. I looked on MSI's website for the compatibility table and saw that the 7850 was missing from the list for the G45. Does this board support the sapphire 7850? Or do I have to buy a new board? I really like this board and got it at an awesome price so I would hate to have to return it but changing the board would be a cheaper option than changing the video card (which was purchased on line). Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
