SAPPHIRE TECHNOLOGY RADEON HD 3850 512 MB GDDR3 AGP
Does this card work with dual G5 under OSX 10.4.11 ?
Bought a NVIDIA GeForce NV40 6800 Ultra 256MB DDL (DVI/DVI) (AGP Pro ) - but it caused lots of crashes. Power failures/restarts. Once I put back the old ATI 9850 crashes stopped.
I can get
SAPPHIRE TECHNOLOGY RADEON HD 3850 512 MB GDDR3 AGP
for about $100. How does this work for Second Life?
Thanks
In Second Life, the NVIDIA GeForce NV40 6800 Ultra 256MB in my dual G5, 4.5 GB Ram, OSX 10.4.11 - would run fine for 3-10 mins or so, then suddenly drop down to 1-2 frames per second and also would interfere with typing in chat too. Very frustrating.
It also was causing random power-offs, and I had to go through the Opt-startup menu before boot each time, just to keep from power off during system startup. Once I went back to my old video card all those problems went away.
The old card will only show "Low Quality" graphics in SL though.
Under OSX 10.5.8, the 6800 Ultra does work, albeit only at 10-15 fps.
The X800XT on ebay here is:

I want to install a helicopter simulator into my MacPro1,1 with ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB and Open GL 1.7.7. Recommended system requirements for the heli simulator are: OpenGL Version 2.1 compatible 3D-graphics card from NVIDIA or ATI with 512MB (at least as fast as NVIDIA 8600, 9400 or ATI Radeon HD 2400). Is there such a graphics card available that will work in my Mac Pro?
Are you really still running 10.6.3? you will need 10.6.5+ so do that and make a clone.
ATI 5770 from Apple Store - like 1000s of others have done and in the comments section on the store page. -
Alternatives to ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB
Hi Guys,
I'm pretty sure my ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB graphics card has failed...
I run MacPro1,1 (2008) Dual-Core Intel Xeon with 2 x 23-inch DVI Apple Cinema Displays. Tonight only one of the screens would wake from sleep - the screen in port 2.
I've tried...
1. Swapping the DVI cables, this results in the non waking screen waking and the waking screen, not waking.
2. Tried running just one screen off DVI port 1 and nothing happened, blank screen but power light on.
3. Tried running same screen off DVI port 2 and still nothing happened, blank screen but power light on.
To re-cap - None of the DVI ports work on their own and only Port 2 works when both screens are plugged in.
So... is there any other tests or checks I can do to confirm 100% it's a faulty card? I've unplugged and done the SMC reset.
Secone part to this - if the card is shot can anyone recommend an upgrade to the ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB?
Thanks
PeteYou could use a Mini-DisplayPort to DVI adaptor on one of the ports, I would think. Otherwise, you don't have two many choices. You might look for a used ATI 4870, Mac Edition model. It's performance will be similar to the 5770 since the 2006 MP only has PCI-e 1.0 slots so the 5770 can't take advantage of it's capabilities if installed in a PCI-e 2.0 slot.
Other cards that will work include the older Nvidia 8800 GT for Mac. You must be sure with these other cards that you look for the ones that are compatible with a Mac Pro. These were the ones made specifically for Apple. Non-Apple cards will not work unless you have the hardware, ability, and knowledge to re-flash ROMs. -

ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB graphics card has failed?
I think my ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB graphics card has failed...
This is a MacPro 1,1 (2006). We're on our yacht in a French territory, South Pacific, so local support is non-obtainium. I would appreciate any advice on how I can confirm my graphics card is dead.
I have only 23" Apple Cinema Display for testing. The display works great on MBP, so that end is good.
The MacPro seems to boot normally - AFAIK based on startup sounds, fan, RAM LED diagnostic lights.
Suggestions?Case A) the screen goes blank at the login screen
invoke Safe Mode (hold down the Shift key at Startup).
This performs a five minutes or so Disk Utility ( Repair Disk) on the boot drive, then demands your userId and password, even if you normally auto-login.
Safe Mode only loads the absolutely essential Drivers, and the graphics drivers are not considered essential. So screen re-draw may be slow, but you can check your email, surf a little, do many operations that do not require graphics acceleration.
Edit movies? Probably not.
Case B) your screen completely blank
If the power-on light flashes in a pattern, that indicates not enough good RAM to start up.
If no power light flashing, you need some function you can invoke that will show a non-graphics result.
The Caps Lock light on the keyboard is under software Control. If it works, at least the SMC controller that talks to the keyboard is working.
Holding down Control while pressing the Eject key on the keyboard brings up this familiar dialog box, whether you can see it or not:
any key except:
R for Restart;
S for Sleep;
Esc for cancel;
and return for the default Shut Down
should cause the System Beep sound. S should Sleep it, and the power light should shortly indicate that it is sleeping. Any key will then wake it up. -
Problem w Dual Monitors on ATI Radeon HD 4870 512 MB
Hi I'm having problems with Dual Monitors on ATI Radeon HD 4870 512 MB, Mac Pro 2009.
Setup: I'm running two 27" DELL U2713HM Displays at 2560x1440 one via direct DVI cable and the other one thru the Mini Display Port via Dual Link DVI adapter.
Now when I boot up the left screen displays the start-up apple as it should but then both screens go black and the right one (DVI connection) comes on while the left one stays black, goes into power safe mode. When I go into preferences > Displays I even get only one single display as if there were no multiple connected. It's however NOT a connection problem, since it works during the boot up sequence.
Any idea what might be wrong with my set-up? Do I need a new graphics card? You do have the dual-link adopter connected to USB power right?
Next I would try using a displayport to mini displayport cable. You monitors have:
Connectors VGA, 4 x USB 3.0, DVI-D (HDCP), HDMI, DisplayPort 1.2,
That cable is about $10

[SOLVED] Radeon HD 3850 / Radeon open source driver
Hello,
My laptop broke and for some time now I am using my old desktop pc (2008), on which I have arch linux and manjaro, dual booted.
My problem is that if I want a long video (over 20 minutes my whole pc is becoming slow and the screen becomes sluggish, mouse too. At first I thought that the ram is not clearing but I 'sudo rm -rf /tmp/' and check htop and ram is not full. CPU is normal so I believe it has something to do with the graphics card.
Please help me track the source of the problem!
If you need any more info please let me know!

Radeon 9800 SE upgrade to G4 (AGP graphics) - HELP!
Hi,
I recently upgraded my G4 to graphics card to a Radeon 9800. Everything seemed ok then I went to switch the resolution and I got a black screen with "Mode Not Supported". Normally when this happens, it automatically switched back to the previous resoultion and it's ok. But now it just sticks on the black screen with the error message floating around.
If I start in safe boot it's ok but if i try to start normally, it gives me the error.
Any suggestions? Please Help!
Thanks!
Mike"I got a black screen with "Mode Not Supported"
"it just sticks on the black screen with the error message floating around."
That message is coming directly from your display. Starting in Safe Mode uses a simple and safe resolution. Change the resolution while in safe mode, but not to the one that went black! -
ATI Radeon 9800 G4 & G5 Edition 256MB AGP Graphics Card
hi all is this graphics card fairly good to run FCS 2 on mainly FCP, and possibly colour, might also run aperture o it aswell, but i might stick to iphoto.
cos at the moment i a have the basic 64mb card that came with my g5 1.6ghz mac
just need abit of info quick as i found this card at a amazing price but dont know if i should save up for longer and get a x800 card for like £350 ish
ADAMHi-
The 9800 will give you quite a boost over your current card, but, of course, the x800 is more desireable. On a price vs. performance comparison, though , the 9800 will give you more bang for the buck.
The following are FCS system requirements:
http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs.html
Interesting discussion:

As noted in the above link, if you are serious about FCS, the x800 is the more serious card. -

This card isn't really from MSI, but the question is pretty general and you guys seem to know some
- My GPU goes up to 110 degrees C sometimes. Is that a problem?
The GFX is a silent one, so a bit higher temp is normal, but 110 degrees?! However, everything seams to be running just fine at that temp...

Hi everybody,
For my current project I need to use the "New volume from layers" function in the 3D menu.
However, this functions seems to be disabled. I've searched for a solution, and found that the hardware could be the cause...
My specs:
RAM: 1GB
GPU: Sapphire ATI Radeon HD3850 - 512 MB GDDR3 (AGP)
Do I have insufficient hardware resources for this function?
If so, is there by any change another way to enable it? I really need this function.
Unfortunately there's no better computer around that I can use...
Thanks in advance.
Kind Regards,
Thomas. If you need drivers there are no ATI certified drivers made for that card anymore and the card is no longer supported.
I do not know what your OS is as you didn't post it. However, there is a hotfix for the 10.2 driver set. Not even sure if the 10.2 drivers will work on your card or system. It is up to you if you wish to download the 10.2 drivers and then the 10.2 hotfix. A soht in the dark if you ask me.
Best bet is to upgrade. But if you have AGP that is old hardware and motherboard. Some cards are still made for AGP so doing a search for one is a good bet too.
Anyways here is the link for ATI and the hotfix. Like I said you will have to download the 10.2 drivers first. But they may not work.

Hi, I'm apparently having a strange parity issue with my MSI K9A2 Platinum 790FX. When I boot the machine, I get two short beeps and then the computer boots up as normal. It seems to run with no problems, recognizes my 2 Gb of Ram, runs my applications and games fine. I just want to make sure I'm getting all the performance I can from my system.
I've tried reseating the ram, only one stick instead of two, and different slots. I've also flashed the bios and updated all the drivers.
System components:
MSI K9A2 Platinum 790FX motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ processor
CORSAIR Dominator 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) (running at 800MHZ)
SAPPHIRE 100226L Radeon HD 3850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Vid Card
If anyone has experienced this or has a suggestion to whats going on, it is appreciated.well thats a relief Thanks!
