Sapphire X850XT w/ 945P Neo-F

Has anybody tried this combination: MSI 945P Neo-F and a Sapphire X850XT (100106SR-RD)? I don't see this exact model in the compatibility chart but the Radeon X850XT is listed. I know that sounds dumb but I want to get as much info as I can before I spend and dollars on a new videocard.
I just want to make sure that I will not have any rejection symptoms.

Thanks!
After a bit more research, dollar for performance, I may decide to go with the X800XL. With 16 pipelines, 256-bit interface and 256MB of GDDR3 memory, I think the 850 may be a bit overkill for my apps, not to mention the dollar difference. I do game but do not need eye-bleeding graphics. The X800XL seems to be a good medium of performance at a descent price.
Just 'cause I really don't know, aside from the obvious hardware menu items (type of memory, amount of memory, AGP or PCIE, core clock, i.e. all things being equal), what is the difference between, say, MSI, Verto, Rosewill, Chaintech, Connect3D, Sapphire, etc. versions of the same GPU? Included software package? Cosmetics? Any performance difference going with an OEM/ third-party vendor vs. a factory direct ATI or nVidia videocard solely based on where it shipped from or whose name is on it? Sounds crazy I know but is it really worth the extra dollars for an ATI board  instead of a much less expensive Connect3D for example?

  • MSI 945P Neo-F - PC doesn't boot

    Hey,
my PC worked for about 1 1/2 years, but a few days ago suddenly it didn't boot - the screen was black and the PC made some beep sounds (1x long, 2x short -> video card defect). I installed the D-Bracket and it says, that there is a problem with the floppy device (but i have NOT a floppy device). I did the C-MOS reset -> nothing changed. I changed the RAM sticks -> nothing changed. I unplugged all devices (but video card, CPU, RAM, PSU) -> nothing changed. What shall I do now? (I have no other video card - only AGP, but my board doesn't support AGP)
    PC Data:
    Mainboard: MSI 945P Neo-F
    CPU: Intel Pentium D 920
Power Supply Unit: 350W (with case "Jou Jye JJ-7029B")  Detailled Specifications
    RAM: 1024MB (and also tested with 512MB DDR2 Corsair Value-Kit [Dual-Channel])
    Video-Card: MSI NX6600 - VTD256EH passiv
    And... Sound+Networkcard, Mouse+Keyboard, DVD-Drive

    1) Reset CMOS
    2) Test with only 1 x RAM
    3) Test with a better PSU
    4) Test with another GPU
Btw, I'll move your thread to Pentium 4 and Core Duo section for more discussions.

  • My 945P NEO has missing sockets

i bought my motherboard last december,
now i realised that my ide and firewire socket heads are missing, can someone tell me where can i put those plug pins back?
cause when i read the manual, the IEEE and IDE port are written optional in the motherboard map
maybe msi didnt put it in or something else, still i really wanna use it if it was there
is there a way to put em back? cause i really wanna use the pins for my firewire bracket and my extra ide hard disk i have.....

    Hi Dallasourora and others,
I am finding this problem to be more and more insidious.
It was bad enough that the box says PLATINUM and we didnt get our IDE ports, but it also says that it supports SATA RAID. I have now found out for sure that it does not!
The ICH7 Chip does not support RAID! Additionally it does not appear to support NCQ either.
It takes the ICH7R to get the raid function.
I have spent hours and hours trying to install a RAID only to find this motherboard does not support it.
This appears to be one of the worst motherboard purchases I have ever made. The advertising ploy that MSI is using here would be like putting a 12" monochrome monitor in a box labeled 42" Plasma display. I am appalled.
I have written to MSI, but I am not holding my breath for a resolution. Looks like I'm out a few hundred bucks for nothing.
I see we are not the only ones puzzled by the labeling on the box.

if it says then you got a platinum...i really don't know why "Neo" is written on the box since in MSI website the name for this MB is only "945P Platinum"

  • 945p neo cannot load up xp

Hello there new to this forum!
right, im running a 945p neo with 2GB ram, 3.2ghz intel pentium 4 with a 512MB nvidia, i have a ide 100 GB hard drive running xp, it goes past bios, then as it just tries to load up xp main screen it then dissapers, then resests it self, ive activited the ide function in bios, even swaped ram about, but still no joy, then i bought a sata 120 drive put that in, tried loading windows xp in, loads basic drivers up but then blue screens so, im well and truly stuck!
    Any ideas
    all the best
    Andrew

I've got the cause from a google search:
The error is occurring because a driver -- such as a PCI bus driver, disk driver, or IDE controller driver -- is missing from the image. Many developers start the XPe development process using the DOS version of Target Analyzer -- TA.EXE, instead of TAP.EXE. There are a number of reasons why developers go the TA.EXE route: loading Windows XP Pro on the target is time consuming; it is physically not possible to install Windows XP Pro on the target; or running WinPE (the Windows Preinstallation Environment) is not possible.

  • 945P Neo - Where have my IDEs gone ????

    Hi all
Have just bought a 945P Neo which I was really pleased about but when I set about installing the bits and pieces, I noticed that it only has 1 IDE connector ??
The space where IDE 2 and 3 should be are vacant as are the 2 chips just above them.
Can anyone explain why this is the case ? Have I somehow bought a scaled down or 'demo' version or something.  It's most unusual just to have the one IDE connector and as you can imagine I am now stuck for somewhere to connect my second DVD Rom drive.
Can the IDE 2 and 3 ports be added easily and failing that, what is the maximum number of devices that can be connected to just the IDE 1 connector ?
    Thanks in advance.

  • MSI 945p Neo-2 V Hanging...help!

Hi, after an exhaustive search regarding the problem and one previous post topic about the same thing happening (with absolutely no resolution, I might add) I've decided to start a new post topic to see if anything can be done.
I have in my possession an MSI 945p Neo-2 V (MS 7176 ver. 2A1 written between PCI slots) connected to various other components, all of which appear in my signature.  When everything is connected and the power switch is pressed, the power turns on, the heatsink fan and computer fan both turn on and the hard drive clicks to life.  After that..nothing.  No bios, no "no os detected", nothing screaming at me that I done eff'd up.  At this point the diagnostic bracket sits on this:
    1. Red 2. Red
    4. Red 3. Green
which tells me it's hanging on the video initialization.  After RMAing the first board that did this to me and getting a completely new board and processor, the same thing happens.
I have tried the various steps suggested in the other topic: separate component testing, using only one memstick to get bios to post, sitting the mobo on a non-conductive surface and turning it on, checking front panel jumper connectors, but nothing seems to be working.  I swapped out every component with known working ones to no avail.  I swapped in every component to a working computer and separately they all work fine as well.  The people I'm making this computer for have been waiting about a month for the RMA to go through and everything and I'm about to lose both my mind and reputation here.  Can anyone help?
    EDIT:  Here's a link to the original topic I found - https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=94091.0
    Other Edit:  guess it's a neo-2 v, not h

i suggest you to swap the graphic card first and see how it goes.
Prior to this incident did you OC your rig??
Alternatively try clearing cmos or jump start the psu using a screw driver
-Yes, I swapped out graphics cards, with a known working one.  Still no change.  I thought "broken pci-e x16 slot" but this is the second mobo of that type that's doing this, so either this particular type of mobo is crap or I'm getting shafted.
-No I never OC'd (wasn't going to try, either), since it never got past the video init, and therefore couldn't get to the bios.
-Cleared the cmos (the JBAT1 jumper I believe) and still no change.
-And I really don't trust myself with a screwdriver and electricity.
-Finally, no, I didn't update the bios.  This happened out-of-box.

  • [875P Neo Series] issues with Sapphire X850XT GDDR3 256mb

hi guys .... i got this weird trouble with my g-card ..i thought it was the bios but have tried all there is now ...no difference at all
i get some dissrupts in all games ... and all runs slow  (usually faster with my old ati 9800 pro card the one that broke for me)
i have also tried to move my s-card around ...  no diff ....tried the latest ATI drivers  (5.3) and backwards ..no diff at all
its running on 1.5v (also tried 1.55v) and also tested to give the memorys some more volt up to 2.75..
can it be a bios settings thing maby?
or maby the SATA controller is messing with it ?  a well ...im fumbling in dark now =)
hopefully someone has had the same thing

its there or there abouts i think, i get around the 5300 - 5400 mark depending on when i run it :S
Last night i tried turning of fast writes (in catalyst control centre, cant find it in BIOS) ive swapped the memory round to be in single channel and also underclocked the card 20 of both memory timings and core. Whilst this makes no difference to game performance and only lost me about 40 3D mark 05 points it didnt crash after, so ill run it like that over the next few days to see what it does then reintroduce each setting till i can recreate the problem.
Oh and in addition, i think its a MB problem, when it boots it says at the top "bo BIOS installed" despite being the latest release (its always done this) sometimes it says that the DDR timings are to tight even though they are set at a loose 3-3-3-8 and ive never been able to get 4 sticks of ram working either in dual channel, they will work individually or in matched pairs but if i put all 4 in it hates it, Memtest found around 4million errors in 1 pass but if you check them in 2's in either of the banks its fine :S.
The MB is also set to "slow" as increasing this setting makes it unstable.

  • [945 Series] 945P Neo will not Post

Hi all!  I have a 945 Neo Board with an Intel Pentium D processor.  I also have 2 GB of RAM, a PCI-E RadeonX700 vid card, a SATA HD, and DVD burner.  It is in an Antec case w/ 350 W power supply.  I have a ps2 kb and mouse.  I put it all together last night and the Black screen begins to boot.  It detects the processor, the full amount of RAM, and the DVD burner and HD.  Then I get a series of continuous beeps and a message that "keyboard cannot be detected"  The BIOS then sits there asking to press DEL to enter into it.  Obviously I cant because it does not detect the KB.  I tried removing one stick of ram, and then I tried removing everything from the board except the vid card, kb and mouse.  This is all to no avail.
As far as the power supply it only had the four prong connector instead of the eight that is on the board.  I did plug the four prongs into the eight prong connector.  Could this be the issue?  Is the adapter necessary?  Or is it a different issue?  Any help would be appreciated because I am going nuts!!

Well I have only tried to post this new mobo. ( Just to look around the BIOS)
I am still whiting to get my New PSU and HS&F.
I think my problem is similar to yours. Right now I'm using a P.O.S. PSU w/ a 20pin to 24pin adapter & only one P4 plug.
The mobo comes on for a few seconds then powers down. (Probably because of this POS PSU)
Once I get the new parts in the mail I think I will be fine.
There is a little more info on my New system in the tread

  • 945P neo-f platinum JPW1 connection ???

Just got this mobo and a 3.2 p4 640 chip.
The manual is not mega clear to be honest.
There are 2 connectors on the motherboard, one is a molex style connector and the other is a 8 pin jobby.
Where am i supposed to find a 8 pin connector?
I have just bought this PSU Hiper Type R- 580w which has a 4 pin but no 8 pin.
I have many spare molex plugs for the molex style connector.
Will the mobo work without the jpw1 connector?
If not where can i get an adapter in the UK?
    Cheers
    Swiss Tony
No sig yet as i am still building

you can plug in the 4 pin to the 8 pin. No problem. It will work. No need any adapter.

  • 945P Neo Platinum IDE or bios problem

Ive just fitted a maxtor diamondmax 10 160G hdd as a second drive to my pc, the hdd was previously in an external case, had no problems, now that it is connected to ide 2 on the mobo the transfer rate is incredibly slow, about 30 mins for a 4.5g DVD, ive looked in the bios changed the ide controller to ide instead of raid, i also checked device manager but cant seem to see anything wrong, any ideas

Tried Hd Tach i got 2.2Mb per sec, removed the drive tried it on usb and got 35Mb, will try installing the via controller, i thought the floppy was only for the raid drivers.
Thanks will let you know how i get on

  • 945P Neo problem (getting very slow)

I have installed this to be a monster PC, but NO.
Have 4x1 GB RAM, and it starts OK, but after 1-2 minutes the CPU usage goes over 80% alle the time even though it is idle.
It also only read out 3,4 GB, and in the manual it say it is due to the south bridge. Anyone who know what this exactly mean?
When I only install 2 GB, it seem to work perfectly, so my conclusion is that it has to do with memory, even though tast manager only reports 400 MB used.
    Hints appriciated

You might try to Disable your Paging File. It will help with System performance if you have more that 1G of memory installed.
    To do this:
Right Click My Computer Icon & Click on Properties ----> Click the Advanced Tab --->  Under the Performance box Click Settings --->  on the New Dialog box that opens Click Advanced --- >  Tord the Bottom in the "Virtual memory" box click Change ---> Now in this new Dialog (Virtual Memory) Tick the "No Paging File"  ---> Now click "Set" then Ok. ---> exit out of all the Dialogs open by clicking "OK" --> And REBOOT if Asked.
Your done and after you reboot you should see Much better performance w/o the Paging File.
If you have any problem with you box after making this change go back into the "Virtual Memory" Dialog and set it to "System Managed size"
See if this helps you out and Get back with us.
Oh and for the 3.3~3.5G of memory showing up, Windows XP will Not Recognize all the Memory installed. Your Chipset and South Bridge should support the full 4gigs of RAM. Especially if you running a Dual Core CPU (64Bit CPU Can Address a tone more than 8Gigs).
I have heard that the New Windows Vista is only limited to 8Gigs, so no more Lost memory Problems

  • MSI 945P Neo - IDE Card & SATA Drives

I installed an IDE Card in the PCI slot and conected my Zip750MB  Drive to it but it isn't being recognised.  Have I missed something ?
Also which is the best configuration for my SATA drives ?  I have a SATA I and a SATA II drive.  One I use as boot and installing programs.  The other is used purely for storing data.  The Western Digital is used as backup.  Which is the best setup for speed and reliability ?
I haven't set up any RAID configurations yet, either.

Is the zip drive being properly recognised in other system?
The zip drive is already recognized by the onboard IDE.
I think this is between zip drive and the ITE RAID card.
