# up2date -u sysstat This requires your server to be registered with ULN. If you do not have a ULN subscription, follow the instructions at http://public-yum.oracle.com to configure yum first. Once you've configured yum, you can use:
# yum install sysstat This last command is also used for Oracle Linux 6 registered to ULN (as we use yum for ULN from OL6).

  • Oracle Linux 6.1 asm packages - oracleasm and oracleasmlib for OEL 6.1 ???

    Hello everyone
I am not ULN subscriber, I am trying to learn Oracle ASM/RAC at work.
I am running OEL 6.1 (uname -rm output is: 2.6.32-100.34.1.el6uek.x86_64)
I am looking for two ASM support libraries which are compatible with above Oracle Linux 6.1 X64
Specifically this article refers to 2 packages I need for ASM support:
    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/OracleDB11gR2RACInstallationOnOEL5UsingVirtualBox.php
    •oracleasmlib-2.0.4-1.el5.x86_64.rpm -- I need this one
•oracleasm-support-2.1.3-1.el5.x86_64.rpm -- this package is now already installed on OEL 6.1 so I dont need this one for OEL 6.1
    •oracleasm-2.6.18-164.el5-2.0.5-1.el5.x86_64.rpm -- I need this one
Can anyone direct me to a download link for the above two packages? Even if its from RHEL6.1 as long as it works?
Or does it mean that I must pay Oracle in order to be able to get these packages in order to learn ASM at home ??
Why would Oracle allow us to use their RDBMS/RAC/ASM/Linux software at home learning for free and not supply the above two packages??
    thanks

Keep in mind that Database is NOT certified on Oracle Linux 6 anyway, so it is challenging to install. The very article you link to uses Oracle Linux 5. It also links to these very same RPMs. If you follow the article more carefully, you won't have any issues.

How to check the dependency of Timesten Application version 11.2.1 for OEL 6U4

    Hi Chris,
THank for your reply.. My requirement is I am planning to upgrade my Server OS from OEL 5U8/5U3 servers to OEL 6U4. And we are using timesten application 11.2.1 version as of now. So wanted to check if the same version of TImesten can we install them on OEL 6U4 . if we can install it successfully what are the dependent RPM packages we need to consider for installing the timesten application and will there be any issues using the application? .
Is timesten 11.2.2 is the officially supported and stable version on OEL6U4?
And also can you suggest me if I want to check other applications dependency like rhino-2.3 and postgres 8.1.23 version how I need to check if this applications versions are certified to run on OEL 6U4.
IT would be great help if you can suggest me on this.

  • Suggestions for 'cpanel' type management system for OEL?

I am probably going to get shot to bits on here for asking about this - but I am interested to know if anyone has tested / used any 'panel' type systems on OEL.
For large multi customer hosting operations, where you sometimes want to give the customer partial control of the server (basic tasks such as restarting services, adding websites, etc) it's not always possible to simply give them a shell and tell them to get on with it - that usually causes more problems!
    So. Management panel for OEL?
    Anyone?

  • POSTPROCESSING PROGRAM IN SARA FOR FI_DOCUMNT

    Dear All,
We are in the process of running the Post Processing Run Program in T_Code SARA for the FI_DOCUMNT object. However we are facing the problem that we cannot give document number as a selection criteria in the variant. hence
    i) Is there a way to give document number as a selection criteria for the Post Processing Program in SARA for FI_DOCUMNT?
II) What is the impact of running this program on documents included by default whom we dont intend to select?
    Kind Regards,
    Asokan

    Hello Samit,
I am sorry, I should have added more steps in my answer.  Once you have chnaged the mode to batch, and are in the process of creating/maintaining the variant for your read selection, you also need to click on the "Choose data sources" button, click on Use archived, click on Choose archive and select the appropriate archive file.  If you only want to analyze the archive file, you can de-select the "Use database" checkbox at the top.
And, you can also narrow down your search criteria as well.
The spool file generated by this should give you what is contained in the archive file.
I hope this provides you with the correct steps you need to get to your data.

  • ULN oracle-validated, Note 761566.1 and database packages for OEL 5.5

I purchased the ULN to simiplify installing the packages for an Oracle E-Business installation. I'm assuming the oracle-validated is not for E-Business installation because there were several required packages from note 761566.1 that were not installed The note also has a list of 11.1.0.7 required packages. Not all of these were installed with the oracle-validated update either. Maybe i'm not doing it correctly?
If so, how do you use the oracle-validated to apply all the required packages. What channels do I subscribe to for the oracle-validated to work correctly.
    I am on OEL 5.5
I am subscribed to two channels the latest for 5.5 and 5.5 x64 per a previous thread.
Packages listed in note 761566.1 that I'm having trouble with:
There are 3 parts to the package installation section.
    1. You have to go to http://oss.oracle.com/projects/compat-oracle/files/Enterprise_Linux to get a couple packages not on the OEL installation disk. Are these also on the ULN update someplace?
    •openmotif21-2.1.30-11.EL5.i3861
    •xorg-x11-libs-compat-6.8.2-1.EL.33.0.1.i386
    2. A list of packages for release 5 and up
There were more than this not updated from oracle-validated from the ULN but these are the trouble ones:
This is on the list of required:
    •glibc-2.5-18.i686 (32-bit)
    •glibc-2.5-18.x86_64

If i try to apply •glibc-devel-2.5-18.x86_64 I get stuck in a loop.
This is what is on the 5.5 linux disk:.
    glibc-2.5-49.i686.rpm

    glibc-utils-2.5-49.x86_64.rpm
    glibc-headers-2.5-49.x86_64.rpm
    3. Additionally, the following RPMs are required for an 11gR1
I would have thought at least these packages would have installed from the oracle-validated update, but they weren't. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.
The following are listed in the note to be installed: I get stuck in a loop with this one too. What do I do about this?
    •elfutils-libelf-devel-0.125-3.el5.x86_64

  • Postfix setup for OEL 5.6

    All,
I am interested in configuring psotfix + any related stuff needed for allowing my home system (198.162.1.105) to send email (not concerned if it can receive) to my yahoo/gmail accounts. This is because I would like to set up APEX to send emails, although I know that part is a matter for the APEX forum. But, of course, I have searched for documentation; some sound so simplistic, some rather involved, wouldn't surprise me if there are some variant-specific setup tweaks, which is why I ask here.
Where may I find documentation that will help with the right setup for my needs on this version of OEL? Please do not supply the URL to Google, been there.

  • Rpm for OEL 5.5

    Hi,
I have to install oracle database 11gR2 on OEL 5.5. In order to install required rpm, does exist an rpm package that installs all required packages?

You can install the "oracle-validated" package. It contains the prerequisite packages to satisfy the Oracle installer and also creates the oracle account and necessary kernel parameters. For instance, as root: yum install oracle-validated. For this to work you will have to setup and manually enable the appropriate yum repository, but it is easy: http://public-yum.oracle.com. Or you can buy a ULN subscription and use the up2date software.
For more specific questions you might want to consider posting your question in the Oracle Linux forum:

  • Multipath.conf for oel 6.4 and oracle zfs appliance

i have a zfs 7320 storage appliance connected via brocade fiber switches to clustered linux servers. one zfs controller with four fiber connections each server has two fiber connections. there are redundant switches so zfs is connected with two fiber connections to each switch and each server is connected one fiber connection to each switch. the zfs appliance manual does not have oel or redhat or any other similar 6.x multipath configuration. oracle support or sales has not been able as of yet to find multipath config for 6.x and suggested i post it here. Since I had issues that seem to be resolved with new zfs appliance software I want to verify my multipath config before i put the unit back in production, I would feel much better with a known good config.
This is what is in the manual for 5.x linux:
    device
    vendor "SUN"
product "Sun Storage 7310" or "Sun Storage 7410" (depending on storage system)
    getuid_callout "/sbin/scsi_id -g -u -s /block/%n"
    prio_callout "/sbin/mpath_prio_alua /dev/%n"
    hardware_handler "0"
    path_grouping_policy group_by_prio
    failback immediate
    no_path_retry queue
    rr_min_io 100
    path_checker tur
    rr_weight uniform
This is what seems to work with 6.x:
    device {
    vendor "SUN"
    product "ZFS Storage 7320"
    getuid_callout "/sbin/scsi_id --whitelisted --replace-whitespace --device=/dev/%n"
    prio alua
    hardware_handler "0"
    path_grouping_policy group_by_prio
    failback immediate
    no_path_retry queue
    rr_min_io 100
    path_checker tur
    rr_weight uniform
    }

Nice to see a proper redundant storage fabric layer for once on OTN. ;-)
We've been in a similar position using multipath with a custom storage layer (Infiniband based). Like you we hunted for a best-match config - and then stress tested the fabric layer using fio (Flexible I/O Tester). And don't forget to pull some fibre cables, or shutdown/powerdown one of the fibre channel switches, while fio tests are running.

  • Looking for Xvfb 6.8.2 for OEL 5.5

    Hi guys,
I'm about to install Oracle AutoVue 20 on OEL 5.5.
    Preinstall requirements are for Xvfb version 6.8.2... but all I can find on the Ora YUM is;
    xorg-x11-server-Xvfb.i386 1.1.1-48.76.0.1.el5
Can anyone please advise where I can find a compatiable Xvfb package?
    cheers. Jerry

That requirement is probably based on the older XFree86 X Window distribution, but OEL has switched to the X.org distribution. In other words, use the Xvfb RPM package you found.
I do not know how hard-coded the prerequisite testing is, but if you get just a warning message or checklist, I'd just ignore it.

If File Share doesn't work on OEL 6.4, how can we create NFS for Linux VM on Azure?
    Thanks,
    Lam

Nice to see a proper redundant storage fabric layer for once on OTN. ;-)
We've been in a similar position using multipath with a custom storage layer (Infiniband based). Like you we hunted for a best-match config - and then stress tested the fabric layer using fio (Flexible I/O Tester). And don't forget to pull some fibre cables, or shutdown/powerdown one of the fibre channel switches, while fio tests are running.

  • Use GUI mode for OEL guest operating system.

    Hi,
Another "newbie" question - so please be patient.
We have a VM Server and have used a VM Template to create a VM with Oracle 11g on OLE5.2 - all this works great and them VM operates and we can connect to the VM from VM Manager and login (character mode) etc.
Now... how do we get OEL5.2 to run in graphical mode? I have seen some Oracle By Example posts that seem to show this in operation using TightVNC on the client and connecting to the VNC port for the VM - but when we do this it just brings up the character mode login console.
Any and all help/pointers is much appreciated.

    Bren

My preferred way is to use SSH with X11 forwarding. It provides a secure means to use graphical applications over a network. Instead of running the GUI application on the remote server, you run it on your client locally, albeit interacting with the remote server. For this you don't need to start X on your remote server and can leave it at runlevel 3. You would simply login from your client machine to the remote host:
    ssh -X account@servername_or_ip
It will automatically setup your X11 display environment and you can type your X11 app right at the command prompt. For instance:
    system-config-users
    system-config-services
    system-config-network
    etc.
If you need to find out what application is hidden behind which menu option, you could type 'alacarte' to analyze the standard menu.
Of course you will need a SSH client, with an X-Terminal and a X11 server on your client machine. If you have to deal with Windows, you might find the following useful (free):
    http://mobaxterm.mobatek.net/en/
If you run on MacOSX, you already have the most featured X-windows terminal that exits, and just may have to install X11 from the optional install of the OS installation CD.
