Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance for SD functional consultant

Hi gurus
Request you to kindly let me know what a SD functional consultant should know about SOX and also its relationship with SAP.
If any guru responds immly it is highly appreciable, as I am in dire need of this information
Thanks & Regards
Suddu

Dear Suddu,
SOX is useful for Security, Compliance, or Audit.
Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) in the United States, to Bill 198 in Canada, to Japan‘s Financial Instruments and Exchange Law (the so-called J-SOX), the current regulatory environment worldwide is one that demands that enterprises take
every step to ensure the integrity of their finances, their data, their processes, and their employees. Central to this is the need to control access to corporate information, functions, and processes and to ensure that there is comprehensive segregation of duties (SoD) across the entire enterprise and at all levels of corporate functioning.
Post Sarbanes Oxley, focus for corporations is more on compliance and security. Sarbanes Oxley has had a major impact on the organizations using SAP R/3 as their ERP. Some of the changes seen in the corporate landsacpe include identifying and documenting processes, implementing controls and safeguards, documenting user access approvals etc. In short, there has been a cultural shift in organizations post Sarbanes Oxley. Below, I have listed 7 major pointers which can help organizations towards better SAP security in the Sarbanes Oxley Era.
1. Provide users access on a need to know and need to do basis.
2. Adequately secure programs, transactions and tables.
3. All user accesses to SAP R/3 are properly authorized and approved.
4. Segregation of duties is maintained for all sensitive business transactions
5. All controls and business processes are documented.
6. Anti-fraud preventive controls are in place to prevent & detect fraud before an audit.
7. User profiles and roles in SAP are secured and designed to meet business requirements.

    Hello Sukumaran,
There are certainly loads of resource which can help you to get fit for the topic.
I will point out some of them for you:

    <a href="http://service.sap.com/certification">http://service.sap.com/certification</a>
SAP Consultant Certification -> SAP NetWeaver -> SAP Solution Manager 4.0 - Solution Manager Implementation Tools.
This requires you to take the SMI310 as preparatory course which is the SAP Solution Manager course that goes through the intire range of implementation and configuration support provided by SAP Solution Manager.

The ramp-up knowledge transfer material (RKT) consists of role-specific information on a variety of SAP Solution Manager topics.

  • Sarbanes-Oxley implications for US-owned Australian Company

    Hi,
I work for an Australian company which has recently been privatised, with 50% now being owned by a US investment company.
We suspect now that we may need to provide information relating to compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) on behalf of the American Investment company.
I have found some helpful introductory material/reading/articles/documents etc. which has provided me with an overview of what areas may be impacted by SOX.
Is anyone able to provide any further background information or feedback or hints on what we may expect in relation to needing to comply with the SOX requirements?  Any information, such as reports in SAP, or processes or features in SAP which ensure compliance would be appreciated.
We run SAP version 4.6c (SD, FI, CO, MM, Purchasing).
    Thanks
    Kevin

    Hi,
Pl check up if your US holding company is SOX compliant;in such case your firm needs to be sox audited, otherwise no.
Pl work with your Assurance and the Audit department.
In arriving at a decision if a firm is SOX hit or not,you need a professional opinion from the right kind of people.

  • Entry level pre requisites for oracle functional consultant

    Hi
    I have done by B.E(Computer Science ) with M.B.A
    (marketing&systems).
Currently I am working for a distribution division that deals with
HP PRODUCTS in a leading IT firm in DUBAI as a marketing executive
I would like to climb up the corporate ladder into segments like
business intelligence, Management information systems or designing a
business structure etc that require expertise in terms of both technical and management like that of a functional consultant
what are the pre requisites or certifications that should be taken
to direct my career towards these fields .
Kindly advise since I would like to direct my career in the right field
    thanks

Hi, I need to choose a product to monitor server accesses and also database accesses, but to monitor our databases I should start audit on them (so I need to stop and start our database) and collect many transactions just to let that tool to read the DBA_AUDIT_TRAIL table, get those informations over the net, insert them into the tool's database (another Oracle database) and then delete them from our databases... !!!
I've read this thread and also this one ( Oracle Audit Vault vs Third Party Tools )
It seems that with Audit Vault I need to enable audit on all our databases and then it will collect audit informations from a central machine, is it right ? Is there no way to collect those informations, reading them from archivelog or in another way ? How much does audit impact over performances on a OLTP database ?
Instead Database Vault seems to provide ONLY :) strong access control, but it seems it doesn't use AUDIT table... is this right ?
What are pros and cons comparing these products ?

  • Role & responsibilities for SD functional consultant

    Hi
    friends,
    iam sravan,
applying 2+yrs of exp as a sd functional consultant.
i want to put 10 months of exp for impementation and rest of the
yrs putting as a support. is it ok, otherwise plez suggest me.
can u tell me the role and responsibilities for implemetation
and support, bcoz iam putting two projects so i have to put
role & responsibilities both are should be different.
plez send me as soon as possible...................

    Hi Sravan,
    Types of Consultants:
The most common question being asked in interviews is ' What are your roles and responsibilities?'.
Before answering the above question, let me explain the difference between Functional consultant and
    Technical consultant.
Roles and responsibilities differ from functional consultant to Technical consultant.
    <b>Functional Consultant:</b>
Functional consultants are responsible for designing the SAP implementation solution based on the
    requirements of your company.
Functional consultants are business process experts.
Functional consultants normally use their process knowledge to calculate the impact of the SAP
    implementation on the company's processes.
Functional consultants are thus concerned with SAP functions and processes that will generate the data
    and output for business.
Functional consultants interact with end users of the company to gather requirements and based on the
requirements they customize the SAP implementation.
    <b>Technical Consultant:</b>
Technical consultants are experts in information technology.
Technical consultants normally assist in configuration of the SAP R3 installation. In many SAP
implementations, technical consultants help in designing interfaces and customizations in R3. Finally, the
SAP R3 technical consultants would be responsible for migration of data from the legacy system to the new
    SAP ERP implementation.
Here i will discuss major roles and responsibilities of a technical consultant:
    1) Designing technical specification by looking at the functinal specification you have recieved.
Usually senior developers having 3 years or more than 3 years of experience involves in preparing technical
    specifications.
    2) Developing objects using ABAP workbench tools. That may be a report program or an on-line program or a
    custom table.
Remember the development work starts after the technical specification is approved by your team leader.
    3) Preparing the Unit test case document.
In unit test case document, we document the results and test cases performed on the developed object.
    4) Peer Review
if you are a senior developer you can perform peer review. I.e review the code written by your peers.
    5) Working on Problem Tickets
If you are working in a support project, you should solve the tickets assigned to you. Tickets are nothing but
the problems occured in production environment.
The above mentioned are the major roles and responsibilities for a technical consultant

  • Sql for sap functional consultant

    Hi sap consultants,
I have a query related to sql for functional consultant.
My question is what is the use of sql for functional consultant and what is the future prospect
after learning it, means will it help in career growth in sap and also to build my candidature strong.
Please suggest me regarding this.will highly appreciate your replies.
    Thanks in advance.

    Prafulla,
Have a look at some of the blogs collected under SAP Career Blog Links. Your best route to becoming an SAP Functional specialist is to work your way into the support group of the company in which you already work. Experience is more important than the certificate. Get your experience supporting SAP as an SAP CRM specialist first, THEN get your certificate.
If you try to do the reverse, you're signing up for a lot of heartache (see blogs in the previous link page). Whatever you do... do NOT quit your job to sign up for training/certification on the hopes that you'll find a job easily after you are certified. End user experience is better than nothing, but does not necessarily "count" as experience when you're trying to get a job for the first time as a functional specialist.
Only AFTER you've been a specialist for a while does the end user experience add clout to your credentials as you can say " I've experienced the FULL spectrum of SAP" while folks who never had the end user experience seem somewhat lacking by comparison.
So *eventually*, end user experience + specialist experience + certification = more than the sum of the parts.
    Hope this helps!
    Best regards,

  • HANA for SAP Functional Consultants

    Hi
I have rich experience of 9+ yrs in SAP MM/WM/SD/SRM (certified in these modules) (and over all 16+ yrs) all through implementations and rollouts.
Now I am feeling stagnated in my career; wanted to make it more techno-functional; SAP HANA is a buzz word.
Wanted to move into it after doing certification; but have the following queries:
Will it be a right decision to move into it without any prior BI/BW experience.
Will I get an entry into new projects of SAP HANA.
Does BI/BW experience preferred over other SAP module/functional  experience; in which case it will be a difficult enviro to compete.
I have explored job portals and every one wants prior BI/ABAP/Tech experience.
I am worried will I be loosing by entering into HANA or shall I go further in my logistics area only for explorations.
The market I am working in is US and Australia.
    Please suggest;
    Thank you.
    Kim

    Hi Kimi,
HANA is related to database, there are basically two types of mode in HANA, one is called HANA developer who developes model and another is HANA technical who configure, install and monitor all these stuffs. When it  comes to learn HANA without having prior knowledge of BW/BI , yes this will gives you an advantage if you have prior knowledge of BW/BI , but its not mandatory for you because you have so rich experience in another modules, so i will suggest you to please see these threads which might help you at some extent.

I have about 15 months of SAP ABAP experience. I have previously worked in the modules of MM, PP, SD and a bit of IS-U. This is for the first time that I am working in SAP HR. Currently I am thinking of shifting my career in SAP HR as a Functional Consultant. I have been working in SAP HR for about 3 weeks as a Technical Consultant.
Please let me know the following:
    - How can I get proper Functional Knowledge ? Do i need to do a course or reading books and online SAP HELP Documentation will help ?
    - How to proceed step by step in getting the knowledge of the above ?
    - From where will I get all the necessary Information ?
    - Will I settle for Techno Functional Consultant or will I move to Full Functional Domain ?
    - How long will it take for me to get a Functional Consultant Expert in SAP HR ?
Thanks a lot for any one who will help me with the above questions.

  • What are the responsibilities of Functional consultant in Upgradation?

    hai friends
What are the responsibilities of Functional consultant in an Upgradation Project
Are the responsibilites similar to implementation project.if no  How does it differ.
    Thanks
    regards
    Krishna

    Krishna,
Responsibities for the functional consultant will be differ based on the upgrade which is Technical upgrade and Functional upgrade.
Resp for Technical upgrade: If its a technical upgared your roll will be limited and your involvement will required only for testing ( unit test and Integration testing) . So most of the effort is required only for BASIS consultant.
Resp for Functional upgrade: If there is any add in with your business process (any new functionalites and enhancements) you need to involve for functional design for the new process additionally with the testing.
    Cheers!!!

  • SAP Functional consultant roles with S/4 HANA

    Hi
in the current scenario there is huge role for SAP functional consultants, along with ABAPers and BASIC guys, in implementations,
with SAP S/4 HANA (both on premise and cloud) would there be similar roles available ?
we can see there is some talk about ABAP in HANA on premise, but could not find much information about the SAP Functional consultants roles in SAP S4 HANA (both on-premise and cloud)
what do you guys thing, would there still be a IMG in S4 HANA and there will be great needed for SAP functional consultants in new SAP Implements with S4HANA

    thanks Richard,
for taking time to clear some doubts, it will help alot,
so its the customer who will drive this....
if every customer moves to cloud (both HEC or public cloud) - SAP Functional consultants will be obsolete by 2025
even if there are some onPrem, due to pre-packaged S/4, there will be very less work
so the 40K odd SAP Functional consultants careers would be ended by 2025

  • Day to day office jobs of a FICO functional consultant

    hi all,
i would like to know the day to day office activities of a FICO functional consultant: like the list of jobs he does, the persons he meets, the documents he prepares, the configurations he does.
these would really be very helpful to me.
    thanks
    chandan

    Hello Chandan,
    Welcome to the FICO world!!!!
There is not any fixed job activity for any functional consultant. This will vary from the assignment to assignment or project to project. The activities will vary according to type of project you work on like an implementation, rollout, support or upgrade project. on broader level the activities will encompass the following.
The FICO functional consultant is expected to understand the business processes of the client from Finance and controlling perspective. This will involve the understanding of buisness as done in legacy system and then trying to map it to SAP. He will also be expected to reengineer the process if required by taking in to account the best business processes across the industry. The most critical document he is expected to prepare is business blueprint. He will be then expected to configure the system in SAP so that an end user is able to carry out his normal activities in SAP. In addition toi this he will be expected to provide end user training and also the support to usewrs after the system is live. The people he will eb required to interact with are the business process owners and enduser from client side and all other stakeholders of the project.
Please note that these are the activities on very broader level and not the exhaustive one.
Hope I had been able to help you out. pelase assign points.

Some of my friends very advising me that I should look into SAP Functional consulting as my future career option.
Can you please advise that should I change or stay where i'm?
Thanks in advance for your suggestion and feedback.
    Reg
    Rajesh.

    Hi Rajesh,
as you have 14 yrs. of experience and assuming that (as per as your points you have stated), i think it will be some handy if i say to change towards sap modules, because the reality of sap world is if you don't have real time exposure in implemntation and working experience then you will be considered only as a fresher, are you ready for that......i don't think so.............
Because in previous 14 yrs. you have touched a landmark in the job profile and in terms of salary , i don't think anyone will consider your this 14 yrs. experience in sap domain  (if it is, its your fortune).
But there are some modules like Supply Chanin Management, Warehouse Management etc in which you can switch.......Afterall you have more practical industry exposure, so i think you are able to justify yourself better than me.What i have suggested is only my experience with sap world. So i am sorry if anything wrong from my side.

    See the answers below
    > 1)     Does eSOA is a tool, application or module?
ESOA is not any tool, application or module. Its a methodology/Architecture
    > 2)     What is the relation between eSOA and ECC6.0?
ECC 6.0 provides some Enterprises Services through enhancement packages.
    > 3)     What is the Scope/Role for Functional Consultants in eSOA?
FUnctional consultant should know which ENterprise Serrvices are available and which should be developed to carry out a business process.
    > 4)     What I have to learn in eSOA?
.         Being a technical guy, there are things to be learnt like ESR, implementing designed serivces through ABAP or Java and consuming it. But being a functional guy, only awareness of what enterprise services are available and what they do and their input/output params and how they can fit into a business process is sufficient.

Customers can move towards Service Oriented Architecture, get flexibility in changing a business process easily, maintaince cost is less

  • Level of Competency in ABAP for Functional consultants.

    Hi ,
i just wanted to have inputs based on your experience , that what level of competence should a functional consultant should have in ABAP .
Should it be knowing the database , debugging etc. or should it be a step forward starting coding in ABAP .
As i was going through the certification details of Financials , in Application professional certification ABAP programming was a part of the requirments for the same .
I being a part of the FICO / FICA / FM modules , just curious to know what the experts have to say on this .
Dear Mentors can you please throw some light on the same based on your experience .
    Regards ,
    Dewang T

Matt has already said much of what I was about to say, but to add a couple of other perspectives:
There's a bit of a paradox: A top notch functional consultant can get by without ABAP if s/he knows exactly what config is where and which fields influence what. They're very rare, but I've met people like that. (More prevalent in HR which is highly config-driven anyway and with a convoluted technical side). Problem is, to get to a high level of competency requires either a lot of talent, many years experience, or ... you guessed it... ability to read and debug ABAP.
The other angle to this is what level of functional consultant? There are no clear boundaries - on the technical side you get the 'techno-functional' people as they are known, all the way towards a Business Analyst who in some cases doesn't even have an SAP logon.
In some ways it depends on the way the company/project is managed and available skills:
If the company gets their ABAP resources as cheap as possible, or offshore, then your functionals definitely need a good level of ABAP skills. If they go for a 'less is more' approach and hires a few top notch developers, then not-so-technical functional people are fine. I've worked on both scenarios and my experience is that the second can produce better results. Why? A really good developer has a sixth sense to know ahead of time which requirements will change and build appropriately configurable solutions. In the first scenario however, basic ABAP skills of a functional consultant do not cover what is good technical application architecture, and likewise an entry-level programmer won't be experienced enough to really follow best practice and avoid all the pitfalls.
On the other hand, the combination of functionals with little ABAP knowledge and budget programmers is something that can get very expensive fixing the results.
If you are thinking about contracting/consulting and working at several clients, then having skills "on the other side" is what gives you the edge, irrespective of whether you are a functional consultant or an ABAP developer.
