SaskTel's Blackberry Z10 users told to wait for upgrade

In speaking with Sasktel technical support, and in the news article posted yesterday (http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/story/2013/03/14/sk-blackberry-customers.html), Sasktel users have to wait for the upgrade until Blackberry does thier NEXT upgrade. SkTEL support says "probably end of April"
What does:  SaskTel says allowing customers to upgrade now would interfere with the Blackberries' roaming capabilities.   even mean?
Telus is in Saskatchewan (with same roaming map -- they upgraded and their users have no trouble.)
Rogers is in Saskatchewan (albeit NOT with the same roaming map, but their users got the upgrade)
This is beyond annoying.
I wanted the better battery life.
i wanted the fixes.
I wanted WhatsApp.
sigh.
Anyone have any further insight into what their statement might mean?

Nope. It will stay the upgraded OS.
Be warned, however, that some users have experienced connection issues when installing other provider's released OS upgrades. Included in the OS files are what are know as "radio" files, which govern the signal, connection, voice and data transfers. You could experience issues. You might now.
But, if it were me, with the issues you're having -- I'd upgrade, using a Telus SIM card in the device. You can even use an old one or deactivated SIM card, I've been told by close friends.
Once the upgrade is performed, remove the Telus SIM, replace the SaskTel SIM in, (also removing and resinserting the battery at the same time).
Make sure you are connected to a WiFi source AND a charging cable when you do all this. It can take 45-60 mins.

  • Jumping from Z10 to Z30 or wait for Passport?

I'm thinking to swap my device from Z10 to Z30. Is it a good decision to jump to Z30 or shall I wait for Passport to get released.
P.S. Am afraid to buy a device as soon as it hit the market because of the less support forums and less known issues.

tough choice to make but I am leaning to get one

  • Single User Mode: Still waiting for root device

    iMac G4.
I reset the NVRAM, PRAM. It won't attempt to boot from anything but a OS 10.4 cd; booting from OS 9 cd just leaves me at the flashing question mark icon.
If I try to boot from OS X cd, it comes back with the prohibitory sign.
If I try to boot into single user mode, it gives me a bunch of "...."has no kernal dependency lines, then a 'still waiting for root device' line, and repeats that.
Something to the effect before the 'still waiting for root device' is "Waiting on <dict ID="0"><key>IOProvider-Class</key><string ID="1">IOResouces</string><key>IOResouceMatch></key><string ID="2">boot-uuid-media</string></dict>"
    Any help please?

Nevermind...I found out that the hard drive was bad...still puzzles me why it wouldn't boot from CD though, as I thought they all should even if no drive is present.

  • New Blackberry Z10 User (Multiple Questions)

    1.  I used to be able to input all my email accounts online.  For example sprint.blackberry.com.  I tried att.blackberry.com; however, it indicates my operating system is no longer supported with my new device.  Does anyone know when this capability will be available for the BB Z10?
    2.  Since I no longer have access to number 1, does anyone know if I can automatically have messages I send from my phone to be forwarded or blind copied back to me?  I need to keep a record of all emails sent.  I found the email signature option - just not the blind bcc option.  This was previously avaialble with the online functionality.
    3.  When using the new Blackberry Link software... does anyone know if I can view all the changes that will be applied to my device?  For example, I used to be able to select get details for confirm calendar edits prior to accepting the synchronization.  This is extremely helpful for me since I bill based on what is in the calendar.  Having the system just place information on my calendar will not allow me to easily find what needs has been added, deleted or changed for billing, etc.  I REALLY NEED THIS FEATURE!  Is there any other way to obtain it?  I tried view the information in the log files; however, it doesn't present the changes in an easy to read format as it used to.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

What you are referring to is a function of BIS, which was required for legacy devices. BIS is not used on BB10 devices...hence, nothing associated with BIS applies to BB10 devices. To specifically answer your question...I believe the answer is never.

Again, that auto-BCC function was provided by BIS, which is not used in BB10. Hence, you must find another method. Typically, the solution is provided by your email server...you would have to talk to that admin to find out if such is available to you.

The LINK software is very different from the legacy BB Desktop Software. What you see is what is available.

  • BlackBerry Z10: Default Battery Percentage Level for individual services to switch off

We all know BlackBerry switches off services one by one when the battery reaches critical level. But is there any fixed battery level to cut down individual services. For example, Bluetooth will be switched off at 20%, Mobile data at 15%, Wifi at 10%, etc. I am searching these in BlackBerry documentation and Googling as well. But I am not able to find such info. Any help please.

  • Retrieve photos from a dead blackberry Z10?

    Hi,
I have a blackberry z10 that pretty much died for no reason, the phone just stopped working one day while in my pocket. When I take out the battery from the phone and plug it in the computer, the led red light comes on for a bit, as like it is charging, but once I put in the battery, the light goes off. I did some research, and others have had the same problem with the Z10.
Anyways I do not care to pay and repair this phone, as I already got another phone. The problem is that I have some photos on my cell that I would like. My phone is dead, and my computer will not recognize that the phone is plugged in.
Does anyone know if there is a way to retrieve my photos?
    Thanks

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
If your device won't power up, then no normal means can retrieve any data from it. There may be fee-based services that might be able to retrieve your data (I've seen some posts here...but saved none...you should search)...but I'd guess they won't be cheap. Backups, as always, are a critical component to owning/using a technology device.
    Good luck!

  • Blackberry Z10 "Call Failure"

Hi Can anyone help?  My Blackberry Z10 has been working fine for a few months.  This week I can not make calls nor can I take calls.  When I dial out the phone displays "Call Failure" Contact your service provider.  I have been in contact with Virgin and they say nothing is wrong with the account or sim.  I have the sim in another blackberry phone and everything works just fine.  I have done the security wipe, still the same fault.  Does anyone have any ideas what I can do.  I purchased the phone online "New" from a private seller.

I would get the sim replaced. I have seen similar issues with sim cards. I had a problem with my data plan on my sim. Wouldn't work on my Z10 but worked in a 9810. One think it was a problem with the device. Turned out that a replacement sim solved the problem.
    Get a new sim.

  • Re: (forte-users) Unstable server ENV after upgrade to Forte30M2.

    I see/suggest a few things:
    1) In your #1, you mention ".... development and test environments which use the
same Forte 3M installs through links ...". This concerns me. On our UNIX box
each environment has it's own directory containing it's own install. If your
environments are some how sharing a node manager, log directory or processes (to
name a few things) that is a recipe for disaster. They may be competing for
resources and usually the first one started will win.
    2) I haven't done a lot with compatibility levels, but if an application built
in dev is to run in test it may be important that node managers and services
(autocompile, codegen etc.) be at the same level (????).
    3) Check the definition files, to make sure the two environments operate
independently. If they are both trying to write to the same log file the one
started up first will work while the second will not as the file will be "busy".
    4) We usually use rpcreate (newer version) to create brand new repositories.
Than we export/import the source code that we need. Also it is important to
force compile ALL plans in a workspace at least once after doing the import.
This will ensure that all of the code is "speaking the same language". The other
compile, only compiles those pieces of code that changed from the last compile.
    Hope this helps.

Subject: (forte-users) Unstable server ENV after upgrade to Forte 30M2.
We are running Forte 3M2 clients and server in our test environment with
clients on NT and server on Solaris 2.6. Eversince the upgrade from 3L to 3M
we have been having an unstable environment that does not remain alive for >
10 mins. These are the details of the Forte installs and server setups :
    1. The server hosts the development and test environments which use the same
Forte 3M installs through links (same ftcmd, ftexec, nodemgr, etc.). The
environments are at compatibility levels 0 and 1 respectively.
    2. The two environments have the same definition files (defining the ENV
variables), though seperate copies and the two environments are hosted on
different ports on the same server.
    3. While building the new 3M environmnets in DEV and TST, we exported the
old 3L repositories and imported them into the new 3M repositories and
    deployed the applications.
While the DEV environment is stable the TST environment is not. This has
been observed while moving plans between the environments (export and
import) using fscript commands, deploying the apps after the move using
fscript, and testing the apps. Sometimes it has come down right after a
startup. There is no programatic reference to the environment agent in the
code. So, a programatic shutdown is ruled out.
Does anybody have a clue or a similar experience ?
    Thanks.

We found a solution to our issue.Their desktops were in a lockdown environment and the essbase.id file located in the windows directory was locked as well. This file is responsible for assigning ports etc and it couldn't be updated for the 6.5.4p2 upgrade. Once the file was deleted and the user reconnected to Essbase, the essbase.id was reset and they could connect.

  • Getting a JFrame to display  from a JSP, remaining JSP code waits for frame

    Hello,
I'm new to Java and just started using JSPs. My objective is to call a display window (from a JSP) that shows the user a list of project selections. Once the user has made their selections and clicked a Submit button, the display class captures the selected projects to the request object as an attribute and then closes the window. The next command in the jsp then forwards the request attribute to a controller. I'm having trouble getting the display window to show-the JSP seems to hang and then timeout. Is there code I'm missing to get the JSP to stop processing while it waits for the choices to be made in the JFrame?
Below is the JSP code and the class I'm calling. I'm seeing all my debug System.out statements but no JFrame pops up. In the JFrame class, the line f.addWindowListener(... does the capture of user selections to the request attribute.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Hmm, I was trying to avoid writing an applet. Seems my only other option then is to write a JSP that returns a javascript menu populated by options from a database call. Then I'd have the user click submit to send the options to another JSP that simply sets the request attribute and forwards to the controller. Will this be a sound alternative?

  • WAITING FOR 1 MONTH FOR REPAIR Z10 MOBILE

    Z10
Hi Blackberry Users, I just get Z10 one week ago, But The phone got switch off n can't restart, then I bring to Service center they told me got system problem and we need to send the Factory. And they told me collection after One Month. Is it I need to wait for one month that my phone to collect. Is there any replacement for my Warrenty mobile. I think this is not correct responce for BLACKBERRY Customers.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
As a user-to-user community, no one here can answer your question with any level of authority whatsoever. BlackBerry provides zero front line support to end users, including warranty...all support starts with the carriers, authorized resellers, and authorized service centers, all who can escalate cases into BlackBerry at no charge to the end user. Further, your warranty terms are a contractual matter between you and your original place of purchase...whatever those state is what governs.
In any event, your escalation path is not here, in these forums. Rather, it is through your service center or original place of purchase. You have no free path by which to bypass them.
There is something called incident support, but it costs to just ask the initial question, since you are bypassing the contract you signed upon purchase. If you wish to investigate that, you can review it here:

  • Ever since update, my torch will not send bbm's to any Z10 users

I updated the latest version on my bb and now it takes forever to send a bbm.  Also, I can receive the messages from Z10 users, but cannot send anything to them.  No bbm messages will go through.

I fixed it by doing this response to another post......and it worked!
Re: bbm won't launch after update
    Hi ,
If you’re having problem in locating then try to reinstall BBM again .
To do that first On your Homescreen Go to Options > Device Application Management > Locate and delete BlackBerry Messenger from there.
KB10040  :  How to view or remove installed application on a blackberry smartphone
After deleting perform  a Battery Pull Restart by removing the Battery while your device is  Powered On ,wait a min. then re-insert it back .
After reboot use your BlackBerry browser and browse to www.blackberry.com/bbmdownload  and download  the most recent available for your device .
Try it and let us know.
