Sat A100-593: Should I install 64-bit or 32-bit version of Win Vista

A100-593 Centrino Duo T2300, 1 Gb RAM 533 FSB
I have already installed 32-bit version. Everything works fine.
But I read 64 bit can give problems with hardware laptop (lack of 64-bit drivers)
http://www.tech-recipes.com/microsoft_vista_tips1426.html
on the laptop is marked vista capable, but that doesn't mean the drivers are ready for 64 bit.
where is the fun if you constant get error messages that a certain hardware driver is not properly signed. Or you can't burn a dvd or listen to your audio card.....
Anyone out there with positive ratings....?

Hi
As far as I know the Satellite A100-593 was delivered with a Intel Core Duo (Yonah) CPU T2300 1.66GHz.
According to some informations which I have found on this page the CPU doesn't support 64-bit (EM64T)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core
I think it's better to use the 32bit version
However, the fact is that Windows Vista is not official on the market at this time.
In this case there is no assurance that Vista OS will work without any problems on the notebook.

Some plug-ins require the 32-bit version. If you are going to just use it as is, no plug-ins for devices, then th 64-bit version should be fine.

  • Should I install Windows 7 as 32-bit or 64-bit?

    I just purchased a mid 2011 MacBook Air. (11" 1.6GHz Core i5, 4 GB RAM, Lion 10.7.1.)
My ultimate goal is to run PowerPoint and an TurningPoint audience response system that plugs into PowerPoint.  TurningPoint says it runs as either 32-bit or 64-bit. That's the only Windows program I will likely use. Otherwise I'm a Mac guy.
My installation disks for both Windows 7 and Office 2010 both included 32-bit or 64-bit.
So is there any reason for installing Windows 7 and Office 2010 as 32-bit or 64-bit?
I plan to use Boot Camp 4.0.1 and have limited tech skills "under the hood."

I'll take you up on your kind offer, Stefan.
I've been reading the Apple info on the install before I get started. I checked out the Boot Camp 4.0.1 interface and see that will be asked to select the tasks. Here's a few questions:
    1. It defaults to "checked" on all 3 tasks - should I do the same?
    2. My MBA did not ship with any Lion install discs - can I complete the project without one? Does the second task take care of that?
    3. What's a "WIndows 7 ISO image"? How do I get one? - or is it created in the Boot Camp process?

    Thanks

If your system is Core2Duo or better, use 64-bit.  32-bit only sees 3.5 GB RAM max.  64-bit Home sees 16 GB RAM max, and 64-bit Pro sees 192 GB RAM max.

The lastest version is 6.2, you should be able to find it for download if you do a google search, you will also need to 64 bit drivers you can get them here: http://aceeca.com/index.php?option=com_maqmahelpdesk&Itemid=5&id_workgroup=1&task=downloads_category...
They are for 64 bit garnet which is Palm OS

I want to switch to Windows 8!
    My PC configuration:
Processor:  INTEL CORE 2 DUO 2.00 GHZ
Graphic Card: NVIDEA G FORCE 8400GS 512 MB
    RAM: 1.5 GB
Please tell me which suits best 32 or 64?
And will 32 Bit will install on my Pc as per the above config or not !

    Hi Dhruv,
See there is no visible difference between windows 32 bit or 64 bit of any windows version.
You can use any of them in your system but 1st of all check if you have drivers available for 64bit version coz you can not use 32 bit driver.so check your computer manufacturer website for drivers 1st.
Apart from this you will face few problems while installing your old application in 64bit (ie-antivirus 64bit or 32bit).
Go ahead ..and let me know if you face any problem.

  • Should I install a 32 bit printer driver on a 64 Operating Sytem?

I have an HP Officejet 6700e wireless printer.  It is used by 2 computers.  The Operating Systems on the computers are as follows:
1 – HP Pavilion laptop using Windows 8.1, 64 bit.
2 – HP Pavilion laptop using Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit.
I noticed there are BOTH 32 bit and 64 bit printer drivers for Windows 7 and Windows 8 & 8.1.
     I have 2 questions:
First, since both computers use 64 bit operating systems, shouldn't I install the 64 bit printer driver?
Second, is there any advantage to installing the 32 bit printer driver on a 64 bit operating system?
    Thanks very much, Terry
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Install the driver which  matches the operating system and the bit type (32-bit or 64-bit)  that is installed on each PC.
Second, is there any advantage to installing the 32 bit printer driver on a 64 bit operating system? There is no  advantage at all. It would actually be a bad practice unless the printer driver is compatible with both bit types.

  • Can I install Windows XP Pro 64 bit on this specific Mac Pro?

I have a 2x3GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. It's not one of the newest machines. It's from the first rev of dual-quads that came out. I bought it in mid-2007.
I'd love to install Windows XP Pro 64-bit on a second hard drive.
    - Can I install Win XP 64 on this Mac?
    - If so, what version of Win XP Pro do I need to get?
    Thanks,
    ----------S

    Hi Steve,
in theory you can install XP 64-bit Professional, which by the way is the only version of a 64-bit XP avaiable.
There is no 64-bit XP Home.
BUT, since Apple does not provide any drivers for 64-bit XP, you are on your own to look and find the needed drivers for it.
You at least need drivers from Intel (for chipset, SATA and NIC) Realtek (for audio) Microsoft (for support of HD-Audio) and ATI/NVIDIA (for graphics card).
You will still be missing any kind of Apple specifics like Keyboard functions, but should be able to run and work with XP-64.
    Good Luck
    Stefan

  • SATA DVD RW should I be able to boot from this?

I am having problems installing WinXP. I have a SATA DVD Rom, should I be able to boot from the WinXP CD to load Windows from this or do I need to use an IDE Rom?
    Phil...
I'll get there in the end

    Oh, sorry that I didn't write a full name. It's MSI K8T Neo-FSR.
I'm not sure if it's too old, because the drive works with no problems in Windows and even during booting up I can see a text from RAID agent (or something like this, I'm not sure if it's a proper name) that my device is installed. The only thing, which doesn't work is fact that I can't choose it in Boot Sequence :(
    Does anyone have some ideas?
I received an answer from MSI Online Customer Service. They suggested me to flash my bios with a version 2.34. Well, it seems to me a little bit suspicious as it is only available via ftp (on a website I haven't found this version). What's more, I am just afraid of destroying my motherboard. Flashing bios is always quite dangerous task. As I believe, you would recommend me doing this with The MSI HQ Forum Flasher?

  • How to install a plugin on 64 bits windows 2008 server?

From the developer forum, I found a description which told me how to install a plugin on windows series system, but I only succeded intalling the plugin on 32 bits windows xp, couldn't install the plugin on 64 bits windows 2008 server. Any ideas or advices, men of genius? Thanks :-)

Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the [http://mozilla.com/plugincheck Mozilla Plugin Check site].
Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions.
If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow ''Update'' button or a red ''Update now'' button, please update these immediately.
To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

  • How to install windows 8.1 64 bit with a DVD

has anyone found a workaround to install windows 8.1 64 bit with a retail DVD?

    Gotcha!!
I am done with mounting a secondary HDD (thanks to ifixit) and installing Windows 8 Pro 64 bit on it without a worry. Charm, charm!!
Boot Camp 5 guide prescribes all needed steps and when read and used correctly, installation must be an easy task. And all the existing apple hardwares work so good in the Windows environment too.
I am going to help out a friend of mine in doing a similar thing on his mac too. If you got specific questions, please do shoot up here and i should be able to get a reply to it (if at all).
    Thanks everyone.

  • Can I install win 8 64 bit OS on dv6936 laptop win vista 64 bit OS

I just purchased the HP Pavilliom 500 destop and would like to upgrade my laptop with desktop OS.
Can I install my hp Pavilion 500 PC win 8 64 bit OS on my hp pavillion dv6936 laptop win vista 64 bit OS

    Hi Ibdman,
You cannot use the Pavilion 500 desktop recovery disks to upgrade the operating system on your HP laptop.
You would have to purchase either: a Win 8 retail upgrade or full install disc to change the operating system on your laptop.
If you are considering upgrading your laptop you should consider Win 7 64 bit instead of Win 8.
