Sat Pro M10 P-M 1.3 Modem Problems

I suffered an online freeze when on a dial up connection with the internal modem. Cursor froze, programs froze and task manager would not start modem icons were both glowing as if sending data. I eventually pulled the modem cable out (icond still indicating data send) and had to power down with the start button.
After this happened the recognition of the dial tone was intermittent and further freeze ups occurred. Eventually after doing all that can be done including replacing drivers, new dial up connections I was convinced that it was software related so performed a full recovery. Unfortunately this has not helped and I am beginning to think the modem board has been frazzled. I am running Norton Internet Security and have tried with it disabled but this made no difference.
Sometimes the diagnostics in device manager will read the modem and other times I get error 603 "modem already in use............." other times I get error 000005aa, but device manager still has "no conflict message"
I am at present using a PCMCIA card and occassionally try the internal modem which sometimes connects and then goes into freeze mode or drops the line. When I shutdown after trying the internal modem I quite often get the message "TMEEJM_WND" not repsonding.
Before I go into getting another modem board can anyone suggest anything else. Thanks in advance.

Hi Nicky,
Thanks for the reply. Warranty has expired. I think this is Toshiba laptop number 8 or 9 that I have had in the past 7 years and from the location that I am connecting the internal Toshiba modems are second to none at holding a good connection. This is the first problem ever and the main reason for posting the problem on the forum.
The PCMCIA just doesn't give the performance and I have already made the move to get another laptop but I don't like selling this one on with a fault even though the buyer is not concerned as he will only be using ADSL.
The other point I forgot to mention is that when it the dial button when on the internal modem I quite often hear a click like the line is opening but then no dial tone. If this helps anybody think of something please post a reply.

  • Sat Pro M10 will not boot up anymore

My Sat Pro M10 worked fine until yesterday. I removed the harddrive just to check Part number (as i need to install a larger drive and want to make sure I got it right)and then re-inserted it. Now it boots up as far as the XP Pro loading screen (black background) which disappears and then the screen goes blank. This is what normally happens during boot-up, except that there would be a cursor over the blank background for a few seconds until my desktop appears. Also, when it has stopped at this blank screen the harddrive light on the front of the laptop flashes regularly every few seconds. I desperately need some of the data on the hard-drive (and no, it is not all backed up) so I do not want to use the recovery CD which is just a ghost image (isn't it). The drive is formatted as NTFS. I mention this because when I tried to use the recovery disc to check disc integrity it gave an error message that said the NTFS logfile is not loaded. It will not respond to any of the F8 safemode-type options. I think I have messed up the booting up process somehow by removing the drive rather than physically breaking anything. it seems it can read the boot partition but no further. Can anyone suggest how to fix this, or worst comes to worst a way of retrieving the data from the disc?
    Thanks and appreciation in advance,
    Chris

    Hi Chris
If the system runs stabile you can remove HDD so many times you want and it should have no any influence on anything. I have removed HDD from my Tecra very often and it still works well.
Back to your issue: if there is any possibility try to connect your HDD as external device to other notebook or desktop to see if you can see it and even back up all your important data.
All Toshiba notebooks, I suppose, since two years have NTFS and that is nothing unusual.

  • Will a MK-8025GAS HDD fit in my Sat Pro M10?

I'm thinking in upgrade my Sat PRO M10 laptop HD but i don't know if the Toshiba 80Gb HD MK-8025GAS will fit well inside the laptop. would be any pin problem or something similar?. I have made a look to other non Toshibas's HD and they don't seem to fit due to the external case of the HD, near the pin side.
    Can any boyd help me?
The answer from the Toshiba Storage Division was:
"For more information regarding the support of a 80GB HDD please contact your notebook manufacturer."
    yeah really neat !!

    Hello
Like you probably know the HDDs produced by Toshiba you can find in the notebooks from different notebook manufacturers. Toshiba as HDD producer is not obligated to test own product compatibility with thousands of notebook models. In terms of that the statement is OK.
Back to your question: your notebook model is delivered with 30, 40 and 60 GB HDDs, depending on hardware configuration. Unfortunately there is no public document about HDD compatibility for your model but it is possible that 80 GB HDD will not be properly recognized by BIOS. If you want you can contact service partner in your country and try to pick up some precise information about that.
    Good luck!

  • Need help with installing new hard drive in Satellite Pro M10

    Hi All,
My hard disk died in my Satellite Pro M10 so I decided to fit another.
It fits fine in the caddy but just doesnt want to slot into place correctly as something seems to be stopping it.
Does the M10 only accept a certain make/model?
Also does anyone know what the highest capacity the M10 will accept?
    Many thanks.
    Regards
    J

As far as I know there should not be problem at all. Take old and new HDD and compare the connectors. I hope they are the same. I can just imagine the new HD is not placed properly in the HDD bracket. Be sure the new one is placed as old one after removing it from the notebook.
About max HDD capacity there is no precise info and we can just speculate about it. Try to use search option on this forum. Maybe someone already wrote about HDD upgrade on Sat/Sat Pro M10.
The fact is that Satellite Pro is delivered with 30, 40 and 60 GB HDDs. How many GB has your new HDD?

  • How to find and back up the utilities and drivers for Satellite Pro M10?

OK so last time I formatted I could not find the recovery disks and installed WXP Pro from a CD, there for removing the OEM on the virtual partition!! Then spent hours finding the correct drivers etc.
Is there an easy way to find and backup the utilities and drivers I need for my system before I format the HD?

    Hi
After the OS installation from the original Microsoft CD you will have to install only the Toshiba drivers and tools. All these applications can be found on the Toshiba driver page!!!
I miss your notebook name in this posting!!! But I think your need drivers for Sat Pro M10! Am I right??? I found this notebook model in your other thread! Please confirm this!
Anyway, choose your notebook model from the driver download form and download all necessary drivers!
    Thats all ;)

  • Satellite Pro M10 will not boot again and comes up with the error message

My Toshiba Satellite Pro M10 notebook will not boot again and comes up with the error message "load error" when I push the power button.
The problem arised after installation of "symantec system works" and trying to restart windows XP professional to make the installed program executable.
What can I do to get the notbook restart again?

    Hi everyone
If you cannot acces to the boot menu by pressing F8 you can try to recover the the master boot record from Windows Xp professional installation Cd, to do this:
Attention: don't run these commands if you have more than one operating systems running in your laptop.
Boot from Windows Xp installation cd
Choose repair installation from console by pressing "C" key.
A console will open asking you for administrator password, insert the password and press enter.
Run de command: FIXMBR (It will write a new boot record)
Run de command: FIXBOOT (It will write a new boot file)
Restart the laptop and now windows should start without problems.

  • Keyboard on Sat Pro 6100 doesn't work properly after remedial work

    Hi,
My Sat Pro 6100 has just been away for the usual motherboard and power board replacement with Toshiba, but now I have a strange keyboard problem.
When I turn it on, all the keys work. After a few minutes, '3' doesn't work, then 'r' fails, then '5','7','8','9','0' stop working. At this stage I can feel something getting very hot under the middle of the keyboard. A reboot and no keys work. Another reboot with an external PS2 keyboard, and the internal keyboard is still faulty (some keys work, others don't) but the external one works correctly.
Now if the pc didn't get so hot under the middle of the internal keyboard, then I would conclude that the keyboard was faulty, but for it to fail slowly and sequentially like this, and it fails the same way every day (Since the Toshiba rebuild!).
    Maybe, internal keyboard controller overheating?
Does anyone know what this might be? :-(
    Cheers,
    Homer

Right under the keyboard of your pro 6100 is the VGA graphics controller (the keyboard cable plugs into the same card). It is normal that this part becomes warm during usage.
It's strange that your problem appears after a while and not right away.
It might be just an improper reseating of the keyboard cable (it's a thin layer like a photo film-negative) that easily pops out, but... it can be something more serious, too. (Especially since you had the upgrade done where hardware had to be changed)
I would consult the service center once again and ask for instructions how to deal with this. Don't ignore it (by using an external keyboard instead of the malfunctioning internal) as it might end up into something more serious soon...

  • CD or DVD drives for a sat pro 6000

any one know if i can put a Model number SD-C2302 dvd player in to a sat pro 6000 lab top or no of any that i can put in please?

    Hi Adrian,
You are mostly correct in your statement about CD/DVD drives for your notebook. However, it is important that you only buy drives with dimensions similar to your current model.
Generally CD/DVD drives come in two varieties, those destined for tower type installation and those destined for notebooks. The latter are usually designated as 'slim' or 'slimfit'.
To install the new drive you usually need to unscrew and remove any fitting brackets used to anchor your drive to your notebook together with any plastic trim components. These will then need to be attached to your new drive.
Toshiba notebooks use various drives (Toshiba, TEAC, Mat****a, etc.) so you will generally have a reasonably wide variety to choose from.
Finally, you may need to download drivers for your new drive if none are provided or if your purchase an OEM version. These can be obtained from the drive manufacturers web-site.

  • Dark screen on Sat Pro A10

    Hi
    I have a Sat Pro A10.
My problem is that my screen is so dark I cannot see the contents (maybe its the backlight?). However when the computer boots I can see the Toshiba logon screen fine. I can also get the picture to appear normal if I shut the lid and then open it. However the screen will only stay normal for a few seconds.
Anyone have any ideas whats wrong here? Why does the screen work when booting up and then go wrong? Is this a hardware or a software problem?
    Any help would be great.

Did you resolve this problem? It seems I have a similar problem, The bottom of my screen,or the caseing with the pcb strip behind it went very hot,(too hot to touch). I then fiddled around, as you do, and now it's buggered???
I can now just see the bits on the screen but they are extremely dark, and it;s not hot anymore.
    Is it this Inverter, thingy??
    Thanks in adavance..

  • Max screen resolution LCD Satellite pro M10

hi, sorry for my poor english, my question is:
The max internal LCD resolution for the satellite pro M10 notebook is 1024x768? excluse te superior resolution with scrolling?
I Have read in the tecnical specific of my notebook that the internal max resolution is 1280x1024 is not really?
    thanks

    Hi
As far as I know the display resolution depends on a display controller
I found this information in the user manual. The following models are available:
    -14.1 XGA with 1024 x 768
    -15.0 XGA with 1024 x 768
    -15.0 SXGA+ with 1400 x 1050
    -15.0 UXGA with 1600 x 1200
I think in this case your unit has a 14.1 or a 15.0 XGA display controller. Well, in my opinion its all right with your notebook. Enjoy it :)

  • Sat Pro 6000 - DVD decoder needed

I have owned my faithful Sat Pro 6000 for nearly 6 years. I have had to use the recovery discs and reformat back to factory settings. Now I am unable to play DVD??s, I am asked for the decoder.
Why is this requesting being made now? Can this be downloaded?

In my knowledge the DVD software cannot be downloaded.
On the Toshiba recovery CD you will find an image which contains all preinstalled tools on the notebook!
Many Toshiba notebooks were delivered with the WinDVD software and this program can be used for DVD movie watching.
If you ask ONLY for the DVD decoder plug-in for Windows media player so you will have to download it from the Microsoft site.
    Search simply in the net!

  • Satellite Pro M10: firmware upgrade issue DVD UJ-830B FW:1.50, HW:1.00

    Hi,
I had tried to replace the old DVD/CDRW with the above UJ-830B ( FW: 1.50, HW: 1.00) but the result was IDE error. It is not recognize it in Windows at all.
I have tried to solder the contact 48 and 49 but result is the same.
How can I make to work this UJ-830B ( FW: 1.50, HW: 1.00) on Toshiba Pro M10?
Is any one have any solution like firmware upgrade or some hardware soldering/desoldering?
    Thanks.
    Regards

This is not possible because such software is not placed or released on any of Toshiba webpage.
Fact is that not all CD/DVD drives are compatible with all notebooks due to different master/slave/c-sel settings.
Therefore its always advisable to contact the ASP in your country or to check the user manual to get the details about combatable drives.
I can recommend only buying an compatible and supported ODD.
    Bye

  • Satellite Pro M10 - start up problems

    Hi
I have a Satellite Pro M10, only 2 years old, but has big start up problems at mement.
The message that comes up when turning it on is:
"Intel (R) Boot Agent FE v4.1.09
    Copyright (C) 1997-2002, Intel Corporation
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
    PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.
    Insert system disk in drive.
    press any key when ready......"
Now I have spoken to a few people and they all say I need a new hard disk etc..., but I can't see how you replace this as it looks like it is built in rather than something than can just be pulled out.
Also I don't have a system disk, and the guy that supplied it to me has decided not to return my emails?
    Can anyone help please?
    Chris

    Hi,
Your original error messages indicate that your laptop is unable to boot from the hard drive, so the BIOS search order will then force a boot from the CD drive. This is why it is asking fro a disc to be inserted.
Since you cannot boot into safe mode then I must presume that your hard drive is corrupt in some way, so the next option is to restore the hard drive from your recovery CDs. Note that this will reformat you hard drive and you will lose any data on there which has not been backed up.
To use the recovery CDs simply insert the first CD into the CD drive and power attempt to reboot the laptop while holding down the 'C' key on the keyboard. (This may be different for your CDs but it is the "C" key on mine).
Then just follow the on-screen prompts to start restoring your hard drive.
With regard to your question about the 'system disk', this can be any bootable CD that you may have. Some can be supplied by third party products (such as Norton Ghost) or may be created yourself for subsequent use. Your product recovery CDs are also bootable so you may be able to user the first of them at this prompt.
