SATA 200gb hard drives.

The board in question is a Neo 875p for P4 3.0GHZ Northwood. Bois version 1.6
BIOS Type AMI® BIOS   File Sizes 362KB
  Version  3.6   Update date 2004-10-12
Update Description - BIOS reported incorrect CPU temperature.
- Support HDD size over 136.9GB.
  Special note ,
Is this necessery for SATA drives or is it only necessery for ATA LBA.
Thanks in advance.

"support hdd size over 136.9GB" - Probably means basic bios support.
You´ll be fine with either hdd, if you have installed WinXP with integreated Sp1/2 or Win2000 with SP3/4.

  • Can i install sata III hard drive?

Hi, i've an iMac G5 20" iSight with an intel core duo 2ghz. I would like to know if  i can install a sata III hard drive like 128GB Crucial m4 2.5" SSD.
    Thx a lot.

First, you do not have an iMac G5. G5s are PPC machines, but yours is an Intel model.
You can install a SATA III drive but I would not spend the money since your model only supports SATA I or SATA II depending on which model you have. I would also be careful about using Crucial SSDs because they may not all work in a Mac. I would get your SSD at OWC instead. You will find their equivalent product for SATA I or SATA II here. I have two of these drives, and they are excellent.

  • MSI KT3 Ultra ARU and 200gb Hard Drive

I just bought a 200gb Hitachi Deskstar and loaded up Windows XP and noticed that the drive size is only 137GB instead of around 200. Does the KT3 Ultra Aru no support 200gb Hard Drives? What do I need to do to make this work? Thanks in advance.

The board supports such drives. But: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;303013

  • My iMac G5 cannot detect my Seagate 160GB SATA II hard drive

    Hi,
My mac is iMac G5 1.6G 17 inch with no iSight.
Recently i buy a new Seagate 160GB SATT II(ST3160812AS) and try to replace with my old internal hard drive.
First i use the SuperDupe! software to clone with my old HD.It works fine and can be read the data via a external SATA box.
Then i shut down the Power and follow the instruction provied on the Apple web site to replace the HD.
After i replace the HD and power on the mac, the display only show a gray backgrounp and the apple mark does not show up!
I recheck the install and the data/power cable is well and connected.
I use the Mac OS X install CD to run the disk utility and i found the cd-rom is the only device it found!
I try to reset the PRAM and NVRAM, the problem still exists.
I sent back the HD to the store for fix and they said the HD works fine on a PC!
So, is there anything i missed to replace the new HD or the iMac just does not support a SATA II hard drive?
    Thanks a lot
    iMac G5 1.6G 17 inch Mac OS X (10.4.4) the new HD is Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 160G
    iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.2)

So that I get this right, you cloned the internal OS X drive onto an external FW-SATA HDD using SuperDuper! ?
There sounds like an issue that the iMac doesn't recognise the SATA II drive for some reason - would've thought it should do.
A quick trawl through the knowledge base should reference any info that the iMac only supports SATA I for your revision, which I'm guessing is A.
Just checked - as you should/could have - the iMac you have only accepts PATA drives. So you'll need to exchange or buy an ATA 6 HDD for your iMac to work, without booting from the external drive.

  • Can G4 PowerMac MDD take advantage of SATA II hard drive speed?

A PowerMac G4 MDD has 33Mhz PCI slots and a 167Mhz bus -- correct? Can this architecture take full advantage of a PCI SATA II controller card (if it exists for a Mac) and a connected SATA II hard drive w. 16mb cache operating at 3Gb/s? Or even a 1.5Gb/s SATA I drive? Thanks.

    Hi-
Or am I trying to cram a V8 Hemi engine into my Mini Cooper, but just hooking it up to my 4-spark plug ignition system to run it on four cylinders?
Aw, you outa get at least 6 cylinders worth out of it...and it will be one mean Mini C!
The SATA won't run at it's potential, there is no doubt. But, you will see performance increases over the ATA drives, this is for sure..
In my Sawtooth, after I installed the SATA drives, the speed increase was palpable. The SATA drives have better performance characteristics than ATA, and even without full data transfer rates, the increase in bandwidth, the speed of the drives, and the increase in cache definitely help performance.
As for the question of SATA vs. SATA II, SATA II drives are all backward compatible to earlier SATA standard, so there is no reason to "limit" yourself to early SATA. Most all controllers are SATA II standard, and the SATA II drives are the latest in technology, and give the greatest benefit.
I would recommend the Firmtek Seritek line of controllers. Bootable, and reliable.

  • [845 Series] Does my MS-6507 motherboard support 200gb hard drives???

I just recently bought a Maxtor 200gb hard drive and can only see 127gb of it when I installed it.  So I'm wondering does my motherboard (MS-6507) even support 200gb hard drives?  If so, do I just need to update BIOS or my OS (Win XP service pack 2) and I should see the remaining?  Thanks!!!

Answerd in your bios post, so I will close this one.

  • T60 Sata 2 Hard Drive

    Hi all
I know this topic is in forums alot but i just wanted to confirm,
Will the T60 handle a Sata II hard drive in either the primary or ultrabay slots?  I mean will it work at all, even if its slow.
    Thanks

Sorry I am still not getting it If the ulra bay is Pata, will it work with a sata drive through a bay adaptor?
I would love to go ssd but its a bit expensive for me...mores the pity.
i am asking about sata 2 because i would rather buy a new sata 2 hard drive than a new sata 1 drive i wanted to know if it will be picked up in either bay.
Still not too sure sorry about my ignorance and thanks for your answers

I'm interested to hear how Fishbert is doing with cable replacement…
    So far, so good.
One of the symptoms of this issue is an incrementing of the drive's CRC error count.* Back on the 28th (right after doing the cable replacement), S.M.A.R.T. Utility told me my CRC error count was at 6322. From early July when I upgraded to EFI 1.7, until the rollback tool was released (in August?), this was how high the counter had climbed… plus a bit from testing back-and-forth when PU1.0 showed up.
Anyway, 6322 was the count on 11/28/09. A bit ago, it read 6324 (12/05/09). I don't know where those 2 extra came from over the last week, and I'm going to continue checking in on it, but 2 is a far cry from the 6000 or so over a month, maybe a month and a half. And as for user experience, I haven't seen any of the freezing typical from this issue, either.
    * Again, there seems to be more than 1 issue that people have come in here with, but CRC errors was identified fairly early on as a characteristic of this issue, and is one I definitely saw on my machine, so I use it here to illustrate the difference I see.
it seems like only solution is changing the SATA-cable, the problem; it's out of stock at third party vendors. (hot Christmas gift, everyone is buying it), Fishbert how is it holding? give us an update.

  • Sata III hard drive cable compatible with older generation of macbook pro

Would my macbook ( 17 in mid 2009 ) be compatible with a new hard drive cable ( sata III ) ? I upgraded my hard drive to Samsung Pro 840 and wanted to upgrade my sata II cable to a sata III for faster read and write. Is this possible?

    Dave The Newbie,
replacing the cable will not increase the interface speed, just as putting racing slicks on a minivan won’t make it a dragster. I have the same model SSD in my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, and my MacBook Pro’s SATA interface is limited to SATA II, just like yours. Unless you’re planning on mainly running disk-bound apps, it’s not something that you’ll need to worry about — just enjoy the SSD as is.

  • Nx 6310 250 GB sata replacement hard drive failed three times.

Replaced 60 GB OG. hard drive with a 250 GB. sata drive. Drive worked fine for 6 months and died. Replaced under a warranty at no charge new one lasted about 8 months and died last one lasted 3 months and is now dead. I read in the hp nx6310 info that 120 GB  is the largest sata drive. Is that because that was the largest drive of the day or is it possable i'm over heating the larger drives ? nx6310 win xp pro 250 GB. 5400 rpm sata HDD. 1gig mem.

  • My G5 only sees 45gb when I installed a new 200gb hard drive

Ok, I need a little help. I installed a new Maxtor 200gb ATA hard drive into my G5. It only recognizes 45gb. Is there something I am doing wrong? Do I need to use an ATA 133 card or some sort of driver? Thanks

    Hi tele_player;
I wonder if he connected it to the bus for the optical drive, that is still ATA. Isn't it?

  • 200GB hard drive at 4200 rpm

I'm about to purchase a MacBook Pro 15", would like to know the read/write speed of 200 GB 4200 rpm hard drive vs 160GB at 5400 rpm

Actually the response you get from a drive generally depends on how full it is. The fuller a drive gets the slower the overall performance gets. So the 40GB may come into play the more data you have and the 200GB drive may prove to be faster.
Additionally, even though the rotational speed is slower the higher density compensates for this so performance is in fact rather similar in this case.
If you intend on having 100GB or more in your drive then I would opt for the 200GB drive. It'll perform at least the same as the 160GB drive in this case.

  • BIOS doesnt recognize SATA connected Hard Drive- need help flashing bios from bootable USB

    hi
I have an envy laptop running InsydeH20 bios rev f14.
the bios doesn't recognize the internally connected hdd/ssd.
I have heard that with insyde bios', sometimes you have to unlock 'secret capabilities' to recognize hardware incl internal hdd.
but I am just trying to reflash my bios.
the problem is that I cant get into windows because it doesn't recognize my hard drive and windows doesn't allow insallation to usb connected drives.
I downloaded the patch from hp.com for my product and it actually has an option for making a bootable USB for use on the actual system, and I did this. the instructions are to just restart my computer with the bootable usb. I have tried Legacy support on and off, neither updates bios.
I highly doubt it has anything to do with the physical sata connector.
basically I need to flash my bios from bootable usb. I have done some research about making a bootable dos usb etc etc but I don't know what program to even run and how..
this is a link to my product:

    hi
I need to flash the bios of my system. the bios is not recognizing hardware and cannot boot into windows to run the bios flash for windows.
on my other comp I ran the bios update patch and chose ' install to bootable usb ' so that I could use it on my system.
cannot run on my laptop. tried booting from the media. tried allowing 'legacy' compatibility.
im running insydeH2O rev f14 right now.

  • Has anyone tried a Western Digital SATA RAID hard drive on a non-RAID controler?

Because of a compatability problem, I want to try a different brand of SATA II drive on my non-RAID motherboard. The WD RAID drives have great specs but I don't know if they will work. WD says they are ONLY for RAID and not to put them on a non-RAID board. My theory is that they will be more reliable over the long term because they are a heavier duty drive.
Has anyone tried this and if so, what were the results?

I think there was some confusion about what I am asking. It is definately not a duplication of my other post and some of the information in that other post is incorrect because I JUST found out that my motherboard controller IS a RAID controller even though I am not using it as one. I will correct that when I am finished with this post.
The other post was about a specific model of Maxtor drive that doesn't work on my motherboard. This post is about Western Digital. The only reason that I even mentioned the word RAID in my previous post is that there is a known compatibility problem with RAID controllers and that drive. I wanted to emphasize that my problem was not the one of that known compatibility problem, but because it is a RAID controller, it might be that problem.
When you use the motherboard's controller as a non-RAID controller, you do format the drives individually, not as a RAID. I know that because I did it that way, not realizing I even had the option of using RAID on this board. That works fine on one model of Maxtor hard drive and does not work at all on the other model of Maxtor hard drive.
What I want to know now is: Will the Western Digital RAID drives will work on a non-RAID controller. The controllers on my add-in card is not RAID. Also, will that drive work on my motherboard's controller even though it is not being used as RAID.
Here is a link to the WD site's description of one such drive. There are several other WD RAID drives, this is just one example...  http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=238&Language=en It does not state whether or not they will work well in a non-RAID environment.
