SATA cable question : help plz

I just recently bought an 875pe NEOFIS2R
& 2 WD raptor's..
Since my case is almost entirely see-through,
i like to hide every cable
But i read through my manual,and there was this
little chapter that said : "please do not
fold the sata cable in a 90-degree angle"
(or something like that)
sorry if this sounds stupid,
but are you really not allowed to bend the cables ?
I can't imagine you're forced to
let them just run through your case
in a straight line..

You may actualy fold it a bit, as long as it is not 90 degrees.
The problem is that folding the cables very sharply causes data loss or corruption, it is like in audio equipment.
When you wrap everything together you will likely end up with a humming sound.
Just be carefull not to exagerate.
I do in fact like a few cables running around, it looks more "interesting".
But my concerns are not if it is a pretty sight, but mainly because I don't want to obstruct the airflow in the case and more important, I hate it when cables are running close to fans, they might get stuck in the fans.

i got strange trouble with promise controller .somethings messes things up so partitions dissapear in other drives , cant move files (cant read files CRC failure)

Not seeing SATA HD, quick help plz

hello all. thnx in advance for help. desperate here. was having an issue. formatted. was doing alright. installed XP Pro. rebooted. installed a few things. rebooted a few times. this last time i rebooted, the bios does not see my WD Raptor 36GB HD. does not see it on SATA 1 thru 4. but will see it on SATA 5 and 6. tries to boot, but restarts and then tries again. last thing i did before this problem started was install nTune and was running one of the things it has. it stalled. hot booted and now here i am. i have everything else unplugged but the A drive, raptor hd and the dvdrw. i just flased the bios and still nothing. here are my components:
K8N Neo4 Platinum SLi
MSI GEForce 6600GT 128 SLi vid card
1 X WD Raptor 36GB HD
3 X 200GB WD 8MB
1 x LiteOn DVDRW

Mega 865 Question help plz

ok after considering the 180 or 865 i decided to get the 865 instead,
and i read all the topics on the fourm regarding the 865 and i have some questions,
i'm planning to get a P4 2.8A 1mb cache and 533fsb Prescott, (i would get a northwood if they were easier to find and cheapter) i read that the mega supports prescott cpu's but with only half size card
my questions is that this CPU will work right cuz i was reading and i c that most users r using a E and no one uses A but the msi site said it supports prescott and this is prescott so i guess it'll work right?
also, i read that i need to flash the bios to work with sp2 and prescott cpu's, can i flash the bios after i install the cpu or flash it with no cpu installed?
my setup will be any comments on this would also be apprecitaed

yea i know northwood would run cooler and would be better then a prescott, but it's kinda hard to find northwoods now and even though i managed to find store that sells it here it does cost quite a lot
well i think i'll use the mega for watching movies, listening to music, internet and some gaming from time to time, should i get amd or intel based on wat i wanna do with it?

i have a 5. li've sound card series without li've dri've!now...in kx driver is a very usefull option( 4 me) :i can set the sub way jack 2 function as a headphone way!i would like 2 have this option available on creative driver's cuz' (i repeat) is very usefull 4 me.
how can i modify bass and treble when i record from mic?i see an option in mixer(recording options- mic- advanced settins and playback settings) wich show's me the bass&treble volume bar but...they are NOT available.

I'd go for the 1st G, for several reasons: the 2G is only marginally improved (unless you really care about the speaker and the volume buttons), but does not work with several older accessories such as chargers. Performance, games and such is exactly the same, from what I've heard. One thing, though, the 2 G supports the new headphones with mic and remote, that might be another selling point.
So all in all, I'd save the $70 and get the older one, but other people might think differently.

Noob with a question, help plz!

A month ago i got a msi neo2 and amd3500 and set everything up fine, kept memory timings on auto etc. System booted fine. Then i decided to oc my comp, before i realized i should probably have a more powerful psu. Whenever i pressed enter to go into the HTT setting my comp would lock up. So i upgraded the psu, got this new ocz rev2 pc4000, and decided to give it another shot. The HTT option STILL freezes my comp. Its stuck on the 5x setting. Why is this option locking up my comp and how could i fix it? My main concern now is to get this RAM to run faster, and oc'ing my comp would be nice. Oh and when i installed the ram it wouldnt boot unless i put them in the furthest two slots, slot 3 and 4.
(I found the fsb setting at 200 but cant find the mulitplier as well, is this the HTT ?)

if you plan on overclocking, i would update the BIOS to the latest version, clear CMOS and then try again.
HT multiplier are for the communication between the proc and the chipset (FSB x HTmult). If you plan on raising the FSB, lowering the mult could be needed.

Computer keeps getting folder with a question mark (?) I changed the HD and the SATA cable, now what?

The problem started when my computer was having problems reading the HD by slowing down and freezing. The Apple Genius told me the computer needed a new HD, and that it would cost $228 to replace it through them. I opted out and purchased a Hd myself and installed it. Everything was good for about two months until one day the screen went black and I smelled something burning on my Mac, yes like fire. Upon inspection I found the burning smell came from the middle of the SATA cable and that it shorted. I ordered a new cable from Hong Kong that took 22 days to get here. It still does not read the HD. I tried a SATA cable from a 2011 MacBook that still works (had to stretch it a little but still connected) I also tried the previous HD that was in there and two other HD from 2 different MacBooks that are still functional. Nothing worked. Is my motherboard toast as a result of the SATA cable dying? The computer reads an external drive, however, and can boot into time machine. The cable, btw had been receiving physical damage from the case when the MacBook lost its little black feet. This is where it fried as the section that had marks from the case melted the plastic right underneath.

Prep your new drive:
Drive Preparation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs,) then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Install OS X.

K330 sata port question

Hello all, Im new to the forum and to Lenovo.
I bought a K330-77273GU last week.
I would like to add another HD and would like to know if the sata ports on the motherboard are 3 Mb/s or 6 Mb/s?
Two ports are red (being used for the current HD and CD drive) and the two spare ports are orange.

Install 'SATA cable connect' Velociraptors in new Mac Pro????

hi everyone,
I need some help please. A specific question regarding Western Digital Velociraptor hard drives:
I have three of the 300GB 'SATA cable connect' model Velociraptors. I installed them into my PowerMac G5 2x2.7ghz computer without difficulty but I want to move them. I want to install them into my soon-to-be-in-hand Mac Pro (2x2.93 quad-core Nehalem).
Can I do this or do I have to buy 'backplane ready' versions of the Velociraptors?

There is an adapter so it will line up inside.
Some have put one or two in the lower optical drive bay in the past.
Ideal is black-plane ready which came out slightly later.

Failing HD or SATA cable?

Hi, everyone.
I am currently experiencing a troubling issue with a MBP I purchased in early 2011. I'm not sure if that means it was likely manufactured in 2010, but it gives you a general idea of its age, at least.
Yesterday, all of a sudden, the machine slowed to a snail's pace, with every and any action taking ages to complete. It eventually got to the point where I was simply left staring at the spinning ball, with nothing at all happening.
Not knowing what else to do, I rebooted, was able to get back to the desktop just fine, but once I clicked on anything, I'd again be faced with the spinning ball.
After doing some research online, I rebooted into recovery mode in order to use the disk utility. As far as the 'verify disk' function shows, the HD does not have any errors.
Because I was worried about losing data, however, I wanted to copy the HD to an external drive, so I tried the 'restore' function only to find this morning that it had eventually aborted due to an 'input/output' error.
I'm now attempting to 'migrate' the data from the HD to the external HD after installing Yosemite onto it, with hopes that I can salvage my data that way and perhaps even use the external HD while I try to figure out what's wrong with the internal drive.
While waiting for that process to finish though, I was hopeful to gain some more insight into what could possibly be the issue at play here. From what I have read online, I am left thinking it is a problem with the hard drive or perhaps the SATA cable. If the 'verify disk' showed no errors on the HD, however, what would that typically point to, given the issue of the perpetually spinning ball. Does the spinning ball essentially mean that the drive isn't being accessed? If so, is that what would indicate a problem with the SATA cable?
Apologies for what might seem amateurish questions, but I am not especially tech-inclined. I am keen to learn, however, so any insight would be very much appreciated.

Just wanted to provide a small update on the matter.
It seems all the data was transferred successfully by using the migration assistant. I can now boot using the external hard drive. I'm even doing a bit of overkill and backing everything up on yet another external drive, just in case.
Is there a DIY way I can test the suspect internal drive and/or SATA cable before spending money on a diagnosis at the shop? It isn't terribly expensive, but I'm always glad to learn new skills.
Also, would you (Kappy) or anyone else have advice on solid-state drives? Is there a model that is particularly well-suited to the Macbook Pro?
