SATA Controller for external JBOD box for SPARC machines

Hi,
I've an external disk box with 4 disks with each has 1,5 TB. The disks are configured in one big RAIDZ pool. This box is now connected via USB 2.0 to my Blade 2000 (there's an PCI card with USB 2.0 in the Blade 2000) . This works but the performance is not that good.
Therefore I would like to connect the box via SATA (the box has SATA and USB) to the Blade 2000. But it seems there are still not that much SATA adapters for SPARC machines - at least I did not find one.
Another solution would be an external box for SATA disks that can be connected with firewire or FC - but these boxes seems also to be very rare.
regards
Bernd

Last I remember reading was that there is a card with 8 internal ports and some with external ports are expected to be introduced at MacWorld in Jan.

  • 8-Port-SATA-Controller for Solaris??????

    Hi,
    does anybody know whether it exists a 8-Port-SATA-Controller for Solaris (9 or 10)???
    We have a small Fileserver with 8-SATA-harddisks and are forced to use Gentoo, because we didnt find a 8-Port-SATA-Controller for which Solaris offers a driver.
    Please help us, because Gentoo really sucks!!
    THX!!

    Now that's really interesting.
    Now a bulk of questions:
    1) Are you sure your friend's laptop doesn't have the P-ATA compatibility mode on?
    2) Can you check out which BIOS the laptop uses?
    3) What does FSC mean by "supporting the only right OS?
    You said you updated your BIOS to 1.10C . I think this version is not the most up-to-date version, check out http://support.fujitsu-siemens.com/com/support/linkapplication.html?LNG=EN&ID=3533
    But don't bother yourself with flashing the new BIOS, in the release notes it only says:
    current BIOS V. 1.13C:
    Solved problems:
    - Correct T2080 CPU battery mode behavior.(CPU working clock from 800~Max).
    Known errors, problems and restrictions:

    Additional information:
    - Support for Intel Core Duo T2060 processor.

    _ This is the initial BIOS
    I myself contacted the Sun Support Center to whine a bit about my problem, but only got the answer to call a hotline.
    You will need to contact Sun Austria for further information regarding support

    Seems our problem is the BIOS now.

  • Need PCI SCSI controller for Sparc

    I am perplexed at how difficult it is to get a Sparc-based PCI SCSI controller. I need help. If I search man section 7d of Solaris 9 I can find glm, isp, mpt, ncrs, and syshisl which appear to be drivers for PCI SCSI controllers on Sparc, but no idea of where to buy one (none of these are Adaptec, which I do know where to buy). If I search the Sun Store I can find part numbers for SCSI controllers but absolutely no description of them or which drivers they use. If I search the Sun documentation site I can find a few SCSI controllers mentioned but not referred to by the part numbers on the Sun store, so I still cannot get ordering info. When I search BigAdmin for driver support I find the pages dont tell me which architecture a driver is for. For example, I look up common Adaptec controllers and find drivers such as adp, cadp cadp160 but the web pages neglect to say they are for x86 only.
    This is what I need- PCI SCSI controller for SunBlade 100 and SunFire V120, Ultra 2 (LVD).

    "... the SSH is your friend..."
    "... the SSH is your friend..."
    "... the SSH is your friend..."
    Go online to the Sun System Handbook. It's your resource for hardware information.
    http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub
    You find the SB100 and the V120 in the list of EOL systems (both are discontinued models).
    http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/eolSystemList.html
    For each computer, you can review the "Full Components List" link,
    where there is a section that displays SCSI adapters,
    including their part numbers and their sales option numbers.
    You will be able to see that there was only one LVD card qualified
    to function properly in the V120. You will also be able to see
    that there weren't any LVD cards ever qualified in the SB100.
    I anticipate the x6758a card will work fine in both, .
    The SunBlade 100 desktop system is so old that it was already End-Of-Llife (EOL)
    before Sun started to ship the SCSI card. Thus there was no reason
    to go backwards and qualify the card to a disco'd platform.
    If you do decide to purchase and install that card, be sure to read its manual carefully.
    You will need to install separate driver software to the computers.
    The QUS drivers ship with newly purchased x6758a cards, or can be downloaded from Sun.
    ... not difficult at all.

  • Vantec PCIe SATA controller, Solaris x86

    I've searched all the online resources I can find, and don't see an answer to this. Is there a driver for this SATA controller for Sol. x86, and if so, where would I find it?
    Output of uname -X:
    System = SunOS
    Node = p810
    Release = 5.10
    KernelID = Generic_139556-08
    Machine = i86pc
    BusType = <unknown>
    Serial = <unknown>
    Users = <unknown>
    OEM# = 0
    Origin# = 1
    NumCPU = 4
    Card is a Vantec UGT-IS100R, you can see more about it here:
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?Sku=V13-2602
    PC is not COTS but homebuilt from various components. Motherboard is Asus M2N68-AM SE2. The card has one hard drive attached, a Western Digital Caviar, 1 TB. The card's a RAID controller, but with one disk it's obviously not doing any RAID stuff, and it recognizes the drive as a non-RAID device.
    Boot drive is a 320 GB SATA connected directly to the motherboard (not to the Vantec). Windows 7, Slackware 12.2, and Solaris all installed just fine; Win7 and Slack recognize the Vantec and attached drive with no problems. Solaris seems to be working well in all other respects.
    Thanks!
    Phil

    A little progress, and some more information.
    1) I had downloaded Solaris 10 longer ago than I thought; I now have the latest-n-greatest (10/09). Output of uname -v is Generic_141445-09. This upgrade eliminated a message I was getting during boot with the older version:
    ahci_port_reset port 1 the device hardware has been initialized and the power-up diagnostics failed
    2) The Vantec card uses the JMicron 363 chip. After doing more web surfing, I found this thread relating to JMicron and OpenSolaris:
    http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=376370
    Essentially I'm getting the same results as the OP in that thread, except that prtconf already shows my card in AHCI mode. cfgadm -la shows the controller there; cfgadm -c configure results in "failed" status for the controller; and no matter what I can't get it to recognize the attached hard drive.
    I don't want to upgrade the card's firmware; having that drive available under Solaris isn't as important as having the card and drive work under Win7 and Slackware, so if I just have to live without it I will. So ... any other ideas? Thanks!
    Phil

  • The box indicating that this domain controller is the last controller for the domain is unchecked. However, no other Active Directory domain controllers for that domain can be contacted

    I have 2 domain controllers running 2003 server, server1 and server2. I ran dcpromo on server1 and removed AD and removed him from the domain and disconnected from network. I then added a 2012 server
    with the same name and IP address server1 with no problem. Replication from sites and services work fine on both controllers.
    The new 2012 server1 is GC. I transferred all FSMO roles to server1. Again no problem and replicating using sites and services. AD on server1 is populated correctly.
    Now what I had intended on doing was a dcpromo to remove server2 from the domain so I can then add another 2012 server. That is when I get the: "The box indicating that this domain controller is the last controller for the domain
     is unchecked. However, no other Active Directory domain controllers for that domain can be contacted.
    I have DNS installed on both servers and both look good with replicating there. Strange thing is when on the 2012 server within DNS if I right click and connect to another DNS server I can add server2 just fine but from server2 adding server1 it tells me it
    is not available.
    Help please!

    Hi,
    As there is server 2012 DC (SERVER1) DC is operational in a domain then "This domain controller is the last controller for the domain" should be remain unchecked when you demote SERVER2 DC.
    If you are getting error "Active Directory domain controllers for that domain can be contacted" while demoting SERVER2 DC then check the DNS pointing on both as per below article, disable windows firewall on all DC, less possiblities but worth to check if both
    are different site then check the ports are open on firewall.

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/584.active-directory-replication-over-firewalls.aspx
    run “ipconfig /flushdns & ipconfig /registerdns“, restart DNS server and NETLOGON service on each DC and try to demote server2 DC.
    If issue reoccurs, post dcdiag /q result.
    NOTE: If initial replication was completed between both DC (new 2012 and old DC) then you may remove the server2 DC from Active Directory forcefully (DCPROMO /FORCEREMOVAL) and perform metadata cleanup.

  • Charged £144 for having my external junction box c...

    In September last year, we.noticed that the cover to the external junction box for the phone line was missing.
    We called BT and was told it was a maintenance issue and an engineer would be sent out to replace it.
    Engineer came, and wasn't happy to attempt to replace it using ladders, because of the position of our porch, so he called an engineer with a cherry picker.
    Box was duly replaced and we were told that no charge would be made, as it was a maintenance issue.
    We have now been charged a call out fee of £144 by our home phone provider, the Post Office, because they have been charged by BT. While we have been informed that all external maintenance issues are the responsibility of BT, we are still being told that the cost in this instance is down to the end user.
    Can anyone clarify, please?

    Its Openreach which set the criteria, BT Retail, and other Service Providers simply pass that information on to their customers.
    Your Service Provider should have a similar web page on their help pages.
    The one I pointed to you, is specific to BT Retail only, but as you have discovered, your Service Provider  does the same.
    This forum is a BT Retail one, and has nothing to do with Openreach, who are a separate company.

  • Help installing sata drivers for 870-G45

    I just noticed Windows 7 64-bit lists my internal sata ii drive as ata in the device manager and also won't autodetect my e-sata usb drive when I connect it.  I read that I need an AHCI driver.  I have a 870-G45 mobo with AMD RX780 Northbridge and SB710 Southbridge.
    So I went to the msi drivers page at http://www.msi.com/product/mb/870-G45.html#/?div=Driver&os=Win7%2064 and downloaded the driver package:
    ATI System Drivers for 7xx/8xx/SB7xx/SB8xx Series (except RS690, 740).
    When I unzip the downloaded file "ati_system_drive_mb.zip" I get a directory called "AMD" and inside is a program called "Setup.exe"
    When I run Setup.exe it wants to install a program called "Catalyst".  Is this correct?  It says something about managing graphics but I don't have an AMD video card.
    Do I have to run Catalyst?  I can see some drivers in the folder AMD->Packages->Drivers->SBDrv->SB7xx->AHCI->W764A listed as:
    amd_sata.inf
    amd_sata.sys
    amd_xata.sys
    amd_sata.msi
    Can I just install these somehow?
    Thanks for any help you can offer.

    ok, I can explain this better.
    I have an internal sata ii drive and an external esata.
    Both work but for the external drive when I turn it on I have to go to 'Disk Management" and rescan drives for win7 to pick it up.
    Here is my Device Manager:
    See both my drives show as ATA even though they are SATA.  And I have only IDE controllers listed no SATA controller.
    I am trying to get the system to recognize the drives as SATA and use the SATA controller to get better performance.
    Also I am trying to install AHCI so that my external drive can be auto recognized.
    The only thing in my BIOS regarding AHCI is under "Integrated Peripherals->On-Chip ATA Devices->RAID Mode->AHCI
    I assume it needs to be set to AHCI.

    can i install oracle for SPARC on a Solaris x86 box?
    As I am not able to find right version for it.

    Not, you can not do it because a version made up for Sparc is adjusted to the assembler for that processor. The assembler language of Sparc and Intel are different.

  • Green Desktop Icon (for the external HD) for Time Machine

    After I choosed my external Lacie HD as the BackUp Volume for Time Machine, the icon (on the Desktop) didn't change into the green (original) Time Machine Volume. How can I change that? Thanks a lot for your help, Beat.

    I had a similar problem where my HD desktop icon originally changed to the green TM icon then reverted back to the original icon after I made some changes to TM preferences. To get the green TM icon back select the HD icon on your desktop and Get Info (Command-I). At the top of the Get Info dialog box next to the drive's name, click on the icon of the HD. It should have a light blue halo around it when selected. Once selected press the Delete key and the green TM HD icon should appear in place of the original HD icon.
    That worked for me.

  • Best External HD for Time Machine

    Basically a beginners question here re: Time Machine. My wife has a new Macbook with Leopard (2.0GHz, 160GB HD, 2GB SDRAM, OS X 10.5) and I'm getting one for myself (2.2GHz, 160GB HD, 4GB SDRAM, OS X 10.5) for school. We both would like to use Time Machine on one external hard drive via Airport Extreme.
    My questions would be this:
    1. Is it possible to use Time Machine for two machines on one HD?
    2. Is this possible via the AirPort Extreme Base Station with Gigabit Ethernet?
    3. Which of the two HD's on the Apple Store is better suited for this? The LaCie 500GB d2 Extreme Quad HDD or Iomega 500GB UltraMax Desktop Hard Drive? Or one of the other options? Is 500GB enough space for two machines?
    Thanks for the help in advance. Been reading the discussions doing research and appreciate the knowledge out there.

    Hi Tim,
    From what i've heard you cant back up over airport at the moment, before leopard was released apple said it would be possible but once it was released that function has been dropped.
    See the link:
    http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/07/10/26/appleyanks_wireless_backup_from_leopard_lastminute.html
    Also Leopard 10.5.2 is rumored to be coming soon so i suppose that feature could possible come along with that update. but that is just a rumor!
    Finally i have just received my iomega 500 GB, FW400 for £99.99 from the apple store.
    for £40 more you could get the FW800 version which apparently doubles the speed, i decided it wasn't worth £40 extra.
    I read a lot of good reviews on the US apple store about it so decided to buy. So far it seems like a good piece of kit, it is fairly loud compared to imac, but imac runs almost completely silently. the firewire cable that comes in the box isn't very long, i intend to buy a longer cable and move the drive away from my desktop.
    One more thing if your thinking of getting a macbook i would wait until the end of january, I'm pretty sure apple is releasing something and it's been a long time since a proper macbook update.
    Hope this helps, if you like i can let you know how the drive is after i've had it a bit longer.

    I have not heard of problems (very many) with SuperDuper and their support is always helpful.
    A linux NAS server running linux backup or even Windows Home Server. People even use Windows to run Retrospect (runs better). Anything you find will likely take some time to setup and configure in the beginning, this isn't your proconsumer type of need.

  • Proven external disk for Time Machine backups?

    I'm looking for a good, reasonably priced, external disk to temporarily use for Time Machine backups.  My 10.9.4 install is messed up and Time Machine no longer works with my ReadyNAS NV+ system.  I want to use the disk to backup my MBP and reinstall the OS.  Can someone please suggest a proven external disk (2TB+) with a USB 2.0 (or Ethernet) interface?
    Thanks,
    Ira

    Hello all,
    I decided to give my 2007 MBP one last upgrade with a new 1TB internal disk that I will install with 10.9.4 from scratch and will (slowly) migrate all my digital hoarding over to it.  I've been using the same OWC FW800/USB enclosure since upgrading the original 160GB disk way back when.  If TM still doesn't work with the new install (which will narrow down the TM issue to the ReadyNAS NV+), then I will put the current 750GB disk into the enclosure, flash it, and retry TM.
    For the record, I chose the HGST Travelstar 2.5-Inch 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6GB/s 32MB Cache internal disk. It was just $75 from Amazon and I used Amazon Points to pay for half of it.

    Ira
