SATA driver for KT4 Ultra
Could someone please point me in the direction of the SATA controller drivers for the KT4 Ultra(MS6950 I believe) mobo?
I downloaded what I thought were the correct ones but apparently I was wrong.
Thanks for you help!

Move down the list, I think it may be the second one.

What is the Highest Capacity SATA Drive for a REV A G5
What is the Highest Capacity SATA Drive for a REV A G5 (SP 1.8 with 8 RAM slots), it came with a 160, I know 250s work... will anything higher?
I am looking at this if nothing else, it seems to be a nice 250,
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Seagate/ST3250823AS/
but I am curious if I could go higher
Thanks
Patrick
(Rep points given)Hitachi 400GB was trouble even on SeriTek controllers. Like the early 7K250, it was not a native SATA drive. Early SATA drives were often using Marvel or some other bridge on PATA drives. The T7K250 and 7K500, or Maxtor are fine. WD has some new drives, one model is optimized for RAID-only firmware.
Whatever happened to just plug in and go, anyway? -
I want to buy 2 2TB Sata drives for a MP 2010 6 cores.
Should I buy Sata or Sata II (faster?). Compatibility?
Any good/fast/trust brand/model recommendation?
Any european online store to make this purchase?
Thank you very much.I empathize-- I live in Alaska-- I'm not part of the '48 contiguous states'. Shipping is much more expensive to Alaska although we don't have sales taxes because we are soaked with oil tax revenues. This year's Permanent Fund Revenues (money in the mail) will amount to about 1500 dollars for each family member . . .
Hard drives aren't heavy. Get a shipping estimate. Macsales just sent me some overnight ram and it was cheap (at least the shipping was). Ironically we got a package from UK yesterday too and it was cheap because it wasn't heavy.
Enjoy your new computer. I hope it will work well for you. -
Error detecting promise sata controller on kt4 ultra
Hello,
I've searched the forum and "the rest" of the internet without finding a solution to my problem.
The problem is: Normally when you boot the kt4-ultra you will have a message saying "FastTrack 376(tm) Bios version 1.00.0.18(c)2002-2005 Promise Technology, Inc." and then either No drive attached to FastTrack Controller, The BIOS is not installed or information about your HDD configuration.
In my case sometimes without any reasonable explaination my computer won't detect the promise fasttrak controller AT ALL! It just jumps right over it, as it didn't excists. This is very strange since it's enabled in the BÌOS settings and it could be detected at the next reboot, or in many cases it wont be detected again for several days
As far as I can see it has nothing to do with the harddrives connected to it, as it happens anyway either with a SATA disk connected, IDE disk or no disks at all....
If anyone could help me out with this problem I'll be very gratefull!Quote

I've litary tried every possible combination. The problem remains even with no disks or CD/DVD drives installed on the Fasttrak controller or IDE 1/2. Sometimes the controller is detected, sometimes not.
I should point out that if the controller is detected it always find my HDD who's connected to it and it works fine in Windows. But if it's not detected Windows will find a new hardware and try to install drivers to it, but it won't work cause the hardware is reporting an error and Windows will ofcourse not find a disk....

What operative system do you have? On a quick search I found mostly linux related problems, though I was not too thorough.
I have Windows XP, but I don't think it matters what OS i'm running.
On the searched I've done Im only finding Linux and compability related problems...
I've had this problem for over 6 months now and I'm getting a BIT tired the shitty controller.... -

Correct FSB for KT4 ultra 6950
Hi, I have a KT4 Ultra 6950 v1.0 (it has SATA so I think it's the "FISR" version but I don't know, nothing on mobo)
A few months ago, the speed of my PC took a nosedive, and I wonder if somehow the FSB has been reset/mis-set.
It's currently 100Mhz. I ran Fuzzy Logic 4, and it topped out at just 103Mhz.
However, I understand the KT4 should handle 200Mhz.
The memory is all 2700 (166Mhz) (1gb+512mb at the moment, another 1gb on order from crucial)
The CPUs are running at 50 degrees, the HDD at 60 degrees.
I don't know if I should manually set the FSB to 166 in the bios or not, bit scared!
Below is the output from CPU-Z. Sorry if I should have cut bits out, I'm not too sure what's important and what's not...
Anyone have any advise as to what the FSB should be set to please? Either to overclock it, or simply to put it to the 'correct' value?
Thanks,
Toby

Unfortunately I don't know the OPN. It's not being reported by any of the half dozen CPU reporting programs I've tried, and I don't really fancy taking the cooling fan off to find it
However I did find out that my CPU is a Thoroughbred Athlon XP. I still don't know the speed, but the MSI CPU list shows that the FSB should either be 133 or 166
I tried using "Fuzzy Logic 4" to set the FSB to 133, but the PC just instantly rebooted. I could try setting it to 166, or setting it in the bios directly, but now I'm afraid I'll either blow it up, or it won't boot and I'll need to blank the CMOS, which I'd prefer to avoid.
Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated, thanks

Upgrade SATA drive for macbook late 2008
Hello!!
I am here to ask for help. Let me tell you a bit more about my Mac:
Late 2008 silver 13" MacBook 250GB 2GB RAM 2.4GHz IntelCore2Duo DDR3 MB467LL/A, currently at 10.5.8 OSx system (yes I know I need to update the software as well!)
I currently bought 4GB kit (2x2GB) RAM to upgrade on my silver MacBook (late 2008), and would also like to update my hard drive.
I have looked around on online shops for 2.5" 9mm SATA drive, and came across to 1TB for not too bad a price (between £85 to £100).
Anyone know whether if this is ok for my laptop?
Samsung, WD Scorpio Blue and Toshiba, all are at 5400rpm for 1TB. (However there is 750GB Seagate 7200rpm 16MB - recommended???)
Large memory/drive are usually much needed with me as I do use a lot of design work e.g. Adobe InDesign/Illustrator/Photoshop...you get the drift .
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Looking forward to hear from you soon!
Thanks again,
ejburton. If all the technical specs (like SATA, physical dimensions, power usage etc) all match then you can use any drive of any available size in your MBP. Right now it appears that the largest available is the Western Digital 250GB 5400rpm drive where as the fastest is the Hitachi 200GB 7200rpm drive. Fujitsu and Toshiba have annonce 300GB drives though I've not heard that either are yet shipping.
I have to say that I'm very pleased with the Hitachi 200GB 7200rpm drive. -
Best type of SATA drives for video editing?
I'm getting a MacPro system to do editing of Hi-def home movies in Final Cut Express and iMovie. I will be adding additional internal drives, but I'm not buying from Apple because they seem overpriced. So the question is: is there a preferred brand out there for video editing? Maxtor, Western Digital, Seagate, etc.?
They have good prices on MacSales.com, but some talk about being suitable for nearline applications, and I don't know what that means. I have also heard that setting up a RAID may be the way to go, but I've never done it and I'm a little intimidated by it (I don't want to get hundreds of gigs of material and then realize I should have done something differently, and have to reformat and start over).Look for SATA-II (3 Gbps) drives that are 7200rpm and have at least 8MB cache (preferably 16MB). Seagate, Western Digital, Hitachi and other drive manufacturers all make drives that meet these specs. For what it's worth, I have long preferred Seagate drives.
In addition to your working drives, remember to add 1 or more drives for backup capability, preferably external drives that can be kept offline except for times you are backing up or restoring. -
Using slower SATA drives for FRA and archivelogs
1. I am looking for some advice on storage tiering on a SAN for my oracle database. I currently have a SAN with all 15K SAS drives and I am looking to expand on the SAN and add a bank of SATA 7.2 K drives. I would like to locate our FRA including our oracle “disk to disk” backups and our archive logs to these 7.2 SATA drives and I was wondering what if any effect this would have on our production database?
2. Also I was also considering placing a development instance entirely on the 7.2K drives and was wondering what to expect for performance regarding this?
ThanksThanks for the link. And on page 30: "The weakest link determines the IO throughput."
Of course, this ballpark back of the envelope rough approximation can be blown apart by a couple of plan changes in the sql. And the sql is the most common reason for performance problems.
Speed of slower disks can make a difference, which difference can vary based on how close to saturation the I/O is. In a lightly loaded system, reports and such may simply take twice as long. As either cpu run queue lengths or i/o wait times increase, things can go south fast. If a development system is not a very close copy of a production system, it may be difficult to replicate performance problems. Of course any little thing can do that too. It's kind of rare in my experience to have a close hardware copy, YMMV.
Craig Shallahamer and Cary MIllsap have written some books you may be interested in if you haven't seen them. Find Cary's "Thinking clearly about performance" paper. -
Need neo 2 platinum sata driver for win xp 64 bit
i wont to install 64 bit windows on sata driver but i cant find any driver in downloads
thanksdavis5,
Download the latest nVidia nForce x64Drivers.
It has the SATA Drivers in it. If you need the Drivers for Install of the OS, just expand the Drivers and put the SATA & RAID Drivers on a floppy and you are set for the Install.
Take Care,

Hi there, just wondered if one stick of Twinmos 3200 512mb will work on this board? also will i have to ajust the FSB for my Xp 2400+? which is currently set at 133, thanks
Msi doesnt list that memory on there web site, but, that does not mean it will not work,i have corsair cms 3200 platn,it was not listed,i was able to use it at 400 fsb by setting the memory voltage up a little higher, but now i just keep it at 333,i seem to get the best results there or at least untill i can get a 2800 with a 333 fsb...but frankly all benchmarks ive done and seen says to run your memory the same front bus as your memory so it runs synchronosly with the proc insted of asynchronosl.by the way,the kt4 ultra bioswill alow you to set your memory bus at 400,333,266 and your proc at 166or 133.you can set them individualy.so that the memory can run at 400 fsb and the proc can run at 133 or 166 according to which proc you have see ya!! )

I/O BACK PLATE FOR KT4 ULTRA
Where can I get an I/O back plate for MSI KT4 Ultra?
ThanksThanks for the info Alifay.
I guess I'll e-mail MSI and see if they have a spare that they can sell me or something.
I bought the mobo from a buddy of mine, and yap, I got everything except the I/O plate, bec. he forgot to detach it from his Lian Li case & sold the case to some lucky person (who might not even need it)in EBAY.
Well thanks again Bud. -
Correct Sata Drive for External Storage on DVR
Approximately eight months ago my DVR received a software upgrade that included the ability to add external storage. Not wanting to settle for just 1 TB of storage using one of the Verizon approved external drives, I chose, instead, to buy a WD20EARS 2TB Green SATA drive that the salesperson at CompUSA said would work with my STB. I made it into an ESATA drive by installing it in an enclosure. The STB saw the drive, formatted it and then added it as external storage.
Unfortunately, it never performed correctly. It was constantly plagued with long pauses in the audio followed by video pixilation - very often to the point of not being able to watch either a live or recorded program. I talked to FIOS support several times and was offered a new STB/DVR each time. I kept thinking that it was a software problem and put up with it until a few weeks ago. . One night it got so bad that I ejected the external drive and went back to using the smaller internal drive. Surprise! NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER!. It was then that I decided that the problem had to be the external drive.
After some Internet research and a call to Western Digital, I determined that WD20EARS that I had purchased was the wrong type of hard drive and it would never have worked properly. It was NOT designed for streaming video but for data storage. The correct Western Digital drive can be found in the WD AV-GP family (AV=Audio Visual), specifically designed to work with PVR/DVR's, STB's, and video surveillance systems. The drives essentially have no error correction built in and thus have no problem with minor streaming glitches coming from the STB as it buffers the transmission to the drive. Since they have no error correction, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should they be used for DATA CRITICLE applications. I ended up going with a WD20EURS drive (2TB) that I installed in the enclosure. It's been up for over 24 hours and is performing flawlessly. Sure wish I had investigated soonerWith the Camera Connection Kit you can input data from an external USB device to the iPad, but you cannot write from the iPad to the connected drive.

Configuring 2 SATA drives for an OS X RAID 1 array & also for OS 9.
Does anyone know if a configuration like this might work in a G4 AGP Graphics "Sawtooth"?
• A SATA controller card that supports RAID 1, such as one of the FirmTek SeriTek cards at the below links:
[http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Firmtek/SATA1EVE22>
• Two 500 GB, 640 GB, or 1 TB SATA drives.
• Partitioning 200 GB of each drive for use by OS 9 when booting directly into it.
• Using the two drives in a RAID 1 array when booted into OS X.
• Not installing a 3rd-party RAID software utility for OS 9.
Specifically, does anyone know what would happen when one boots into OS 9? Would the two drives simply be seen as two separate 200 GB partitions?Hi-
Would the two drives simply be seen as two separate 200 GB partitions?
That is how it should work.
Go one better, and find SoftRAID 2.2 and RAID the 2 200 GB partitions for use in OS 9.
