SATA DVD Drive disappeared after Install HELP!

I installed Snow Leopard using my second DVD drive in my Mac Pro. After install I tried ejecting the install DVD and it dissapeared but didn't eject the disk... that DVD drive is no longer recognized — I can't option+eject to get it to eject, when I do this it comes up with the Shutdown computer dialogue. "About this Mac" lists the drive as present under the Serial-ATA list, Toast doesn't recognize the disk. Any suggestions apart from paperclip?
Thanks,
John

Reboot and hold "option." In the boot menu, do you see the DVD? If so, try to eject it with the eject key.
If not, it sounds like something is wrong with the drive. The next thing would be to use the paperclip to get the disc out, and then troubleshoot the drive.

  • CD/DVD Drive disappears after installing itunes and quicktime HELP!

When I have installed itunes and quicktime my cd/dvd player drive disappears?? Has anyone had this problem??

I have had exactly the same problem with my Toshiba Laptop running Vista Home Premium for 5 months. I have continually tried updating and checking this site for a fix, but haven't had a clue. My Son-in-law works for Microsoft and uses iTunes extensively and he can't figure it out either. Toshiba has no answers.

    7. I showed hidden devices and the hl-dt-st dvdrw ga32 is there (disabled of course)

please help me. i really need my DVD drive
    thanks in advance

    thanks for the response
    1. Yeah I thought that's a mandatory thing because i need to be able to control the brightness with my keyboard, updated graphics card, boot camp control panel, etc
    2. No there's no enable for this because Windows 8 recognizes it as a "disconnected device" and asks me to reconnect the dvd drive to the machine (which it obviously already is).
    3. Ive tried those before, also even editing the registry but it didnt work.
It's weird because it never happened before on Snow Leopard » Lion bootcamp driver updates. Just in Mountain Lion

  • Realtek HD Audio driver disappears after installing an ATI Radeon graphics card

My Realtek HD Audio driver disappears (from both the Vista "Sound Manager" and the "Device Manager") and is replaced by an ATI HD Audio driver after installing an ATI  Radeon 5450 graphics card.  I've tried un-installing the ATI Audio driver and re-installing the Realtek Audio driver.  But, upon rebooting, Vista automatically re-installs the ATI Audio driver (and the Realtek Audio driver, which I just re-installed, is no where to be found after rebooting).  I'm using an HP a6110n desktop running Windows Vista.
    This question was solved.

    Hi:
I bet you were unpleasantly surprised by that!
    The fix is simple:
Go into your system setup (BIOS) using the F10 key.
Find your device configuration menu. In that menu there should be a setting for your onboard audio. It is probably set to Auto.
Change the setting to Enabled. Hit the F10, key there and again when you save your settings and exit.
Now your onboard audio will be back and your HDMI out audio on your graphics card should work too when you need it.
What happened was when you installed the Video card with HDMI out, there is an audio chip on the video card for HDMI. The PC sensing a new sound card, just disabled the onboard sound card because it thought you didn't want to use the onboard card anymore.
Changing the BIOS setting to enabled tells the PC to use the onboard audio card as well as any others you may have installed.

  • Hard drive disappears after install of 10.4.3

Just upgraded from 10.2.7 to 10.4.3,
I have a powermac G4 with 4 hard drives (two 40gb and two 120gb). The two 40gb and one 120gb drives were recognized after the upgrade, but the other 120gb does not show up anywhere, including disk utility. All drives have been functioning properly prior to the upgrade. I also have one internal superdrive and one external DVD-R drive (both are recognized).
    Any ideas appreciated...thanks in advance,
    -Erik

if thats the case then it most likelyt is a hardware issue and not a problem with os 10.4 it might be worth your while to make sure though and find someone with a 10.2 or 10.3 disc an see if its listed in that setup, or you could check to see if that hardrive is visable in another computer that would at least rule out the possibility of the harddrive malfunctioning, but you may7 just also want to try another harddrive bay it could just be as simple as the serial cable being toast or at worst one of the buses being toast, but i believee your mac has four bays so definatly try that. and if worst comes to worst and none of these things seem to work then try calling apple.
i hope one of these things will help and give you insight on this issue, good luck!

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • Help! iTunes makes my DVD drive disappear

I installed iTunes version 7.6 and my DVD drive disappeared when I re-
booted my pc. At first I was able to restore to an earlier point and
my DVD drive re-appeared. When I tried to re-install iTunes, again the
DVD drive disappeared and I was unable to restore at all. The only way
I was able to restore my DVD drive was to restore my pc back to
factory settings. I have since tried an earlier version of iTunes (Version 7) with
exactly the same results as version 7.6. I have a 80GB iPod classic and I'm using XP. Can anyone help me install iTunes without losing hardware?

I have exactly the same problem. there are loads of others the same and some have advised to get a really old version of itunes and others have had to down load new drivers. I as of yet have been unable to resolve the issue yet I know others with Vista who can run new itunes with no problems. How frustrating!!! try looking through the archives on this support page for plenty of ideas on how to resolve it.

  • No Windows 64 bit Driver for GT30L SATA DVD Drive

I recently updated my compaq presario to Windows 8.1.  I've been pleased with the change but Windows installed an incomaptible driver for my DVD drive.  It installed the driver for the 32 bit OS.  From what I've learned 32 bit drivers can't work in a 64 bit system.  Here is a link where I discovered this:

  • Does anyone know when the Mac Pro switched from ATA to SATA DVD Drives

Does anyone know when the Mac Pro switched from ATA to SATA DVD Drives ?
I tried to find this answer online but failed.

Appears the Mac Pro (Early 2008) is the last model to suggest Ultra ATA/100 optical.
And with an optional card, use Serial Attached SCSI via Mac Pro Raid.
This kind of information gets sketchy in that the hard drive bus and other parts are SATA
and only this (and earlier) model Mac Pro has optical drive interface w/ Ultra ATA/100. The
logic board on the early 2008 appears to have two Serial ATA ports, 3.0GBPS; so to check
these, you may need to look into specification in iFixit.com repair guides, any takeapart
guides, and note specifications in everymac.com and those from mactracker.ca.
The MacPro after Early 2008 model build series (Early 2009) appears to sport an optical
drive with 18x speed, compared to Early 2008 & before, whose drives indicate 16x spec.
Other changes may be indicated by certain parts and differences; processors, graphic
support, and those kinds of things. 2008 shows dual-core, afterward, quad-core.
So on what little I found, that would appear to be the divide or when optical drive spec
on the logic board changed from Ultra ATA/100 to SATA versions. But double check.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Problems with SATA DVD drives

I recently purchased this MacPro. I have since added 2 SATA DVD drives to the system that originally had 2 PATA drives. The problem that I am having is that initially I can eject the disk from both drives but after 5 minutes both drives stop responding and neither will eject. Has anyone else had similar problems. I would appreciate any ideas.

Yes I did. When I unchecked it I was able to eject them. Thank you very much. I knew it was something simple that I was missing.
