SATA/IDE channel configuration issues

Ok here's the setup:
First SATA Channel: Seagate 7200RPM 80GB HDD
Primary IDE Channel: LG 52x CD-ROM Drive
Secondary IDE Channel: Western Digital 7200RPM 160GB HDD
OS: Windows XP SP1
Mobo: MSI 865PE Neo2-P MS-6728 Version 2
The bios can detect all drives.
If I use the recommended On-chip IDE Configuration mode as mentioned on page 3-23 in the manual, Windows XP loads and then goes through the process of detecting the Primary and Secondary IDE channel.
After detecting it reports that Windows reports that the "Driver is not intended for this platform".
If you look under Administrative Tools in Control Panel is refuses to detect the PATA drive as well.
I tried swapping the PATA and the CD drives around but the above applied.
If I try the following drive configuration and set the bios ATA Configuration to PATA & SATA then all drives are detected in Windows:
First SATA Channel: Seagate 7200RPM 80GB HDD
Primary IDE Channel Master: LG 52x CD-ROM Drive
Primary IDE Channel Slave: Western Digital 7200RPM 160GB HDD
So what's up? I've tried tinkering around with Legacy/Native, PATA/SATA Only etc and I've run out of ideas.

I got similiar problem as b52 when I plugin an old P-ATA deathstar drive as master on first primary IDE and a LITE-ON dvd-rom as master on secondary. When I enter Windows the hardware auto wiz starts working and after a little while reports that two devices of type "IDE channel" have "Driver is not intended for this platform". I currently use the settings Danny recommends above. Weird thing is both the deathstar and the LITE-ON drive seem to work great. Of course I want to get rid of the exclamation marks in my device manager though. I read elsewhere drive emulation software could be a culprit, and renaming/deleting atapi.sys could be a problem solver - but not for me it turned out. Anyone got other methods to try out?

  • Sata & IDE Hard drive question

OK im running an Neo4 Platinum SLI MB and i have 2 Western Digital Raptors hooked up in raid 0 array and everything works fine, Now when i try to hook up my old IDE Maxtor Dimondmax 250gb Hard drive it wont be detected in windows.  Do the jumpers need to be changed on all the drives? Am i missing a setting in the bios I tried changing the maxtors jumpers to slave or master and either way made no differance.
In the bios/Nvidia raid config area i had the IDE secondary master and IDE secondary slave options disabled, If i enabled them the detecting array at start up shows my raid hard drives as well as my DVD-rom and burner.
    mesa confused

When i installed the 2 sata drives i unpluged my Maxtor so it was never detected..
    The Bios Boot order:
    1st boot priority: DISABLED
    2nd boot priority: DISABLED
    3rd boot priority: HARD DRIVE
    Boot From other device: ENABLED

Thats It as soon as i shut down the computer and reconnect my maxtor it hangs at the boot IDE detect screen,  i cant even get into Bios.
Only other stuff i can say is that Under the Integrated Peripherals I have the following setup:

  • Linux not installing on my SATA HD on IDE channel 2

    Hi.
I need some help ´cause i´m not able to install linux.
My PC is Core2Duo - MB Gigabyte VM900M with VIA chisets
HD 320gb in IDE channel 2 and 02mb Ram
Error is something like: "not find any drivers to installing a Linux files"
Seems the instalation don´t reconise my HD.
    Regards.
    Marcos
    PS.: sorry my bad english

I had issues recently installing Linux on a brand new server becuase it didn't recognise the SATA disks. Fortunately, I had the luxury of using another machine but the way round the problem is to find the Linux drivers for your disk-types.
Hopefully the manufacturer will have created some!
    cheers,

  • K9A2Gm V2 under W2k - SATA/IDE issues

I am having trouble to get W2k running on the K9A2 GM V2 board (I would need that for sw-compatibility issues).
I got it installed and running by enabling IDE emulation. Problem is that the drive gives me 1.5 Mbit/s transfer rate. On another PC with SB600 in RAID-1 configuration same drives gives me 80MB/sec. I used the MSI F-6 x86 drivers that came with the mobo (ATIDrv/SBDrv/IDEATA133). BIOS tells me that the drive has UDMA-6 enabled. The driver is fine in the device manager and shows up as AMD PCI SATA/IDE Bus Driver. Version is 5.1.0.8.
-> Did anyone succeed to run W2K with acceptable disk performance?
I also tried a SATA/RAID setup (using a single drive RAID READY configuration). After the F6 drivers were loaded I got a message that the AHCI drive file is corrupted. I tried several drivers and floppy disks. I also changed the floppy drive with no other effect.
A bit confused I noted a bunch of other drivers on the MSI CD as JMicron, Promise and Silicon_image. I thought the drives work though the SB700 and thus only AMD drivers would make sense. Is that a misunderstanding?
I am running out of ideas. Any experiences or comments?
    Thanks,
    tiger
    My system specs are:
        AMD Phenom 9950 Quad Core
        2GB Ram
        1x 500GB SATA HDD Hitachi HDP725050GLA360
1x DVD Rom on IDE Primary Master
ATI HD 3450 Graphics card, 512MB
        400W PSU
1 additional TP-Link GB LAN card
        W2K Pro SP4
        BIOS A7302 AMS V2.1 021109
I also observed: in Device Manager mit DVD is listed with UDMA mode. The HDD however is not. The fields look like that:
      - type: "automatic detection" but its grayed out
      - mode "Use DMA if available"
      - actual mode "not accessible", or "not available" (its a translation, I dunno what the EN version displays)
That must be the reason that the thing is so slow, but why does it not use the UDMA mode?

    What PIO bug?
There used to be a problem with Win2K, but that has nothing to do with the controller used, this was Win2K going wrong and that was fixed in SP1 or 2, forgot the exact one.
There fix should be in included in SP3 or SP4 (which i use). I saw couple of Microsoft posts how to deal with that. However, I found many postings in the web with the problem and very often the Microsoft fixed did not work too. I have been trying workarounds for a couple of days now. For some guys another driver did the job (e.g. some "SATA" driver, but I did not find a case with a SB700 chipset.)
Quote from: Bas on 03-January-10, 23:20:21
However, when putting the controller in RAID is doesn't use the normal IDE way but it uses SCSI (mini-port) way.
There are no drivers for Win2K, so use IDE mode or XP, btw AHCI in XP is fairly unstable too but that's an XP problem.
But you only have 1 drive, so why bother with RAID or ACHI? IDE-mode is faster anyway.
I agree. RAID/AHCI would have been a workaround for the slow IDE only.
Quote from: Bas on 03-January-10, 23:20:21
Set the controller in IDE mode and use the Microsoft drivers! as there are no specific Win2k drivers.
The slow IDE mode is the initial problem I described in the first post. With the MS drivers I could not get the HDD out of PIO mode. On the MSI driver disk I found specific AMD SB700 drivers for "SATA Controller (Native IDE mode)". The driver was 5.1.0.8 and is designated WinXP32, but usually the XP drivers work fine for W2K. I tried those as well as the standard MS drivers, but I could not get my HDD out of PIO mode.

  • K9N SLI Platinum - IDE Channel Not Working

    Hi Guys,
This is my first post... so forgive any dumb stuff.
I build a new PC every couple years for normal home use... little or no overclocking.  I have worked in the computer and PC business for 30+ years... so I am fairly competent in this stuff.  I am having trouble with my current project.
The system is described in the signature below.  Everything assembled easily and the system came up to the "4 green LEDs"  on the first power up.  However, I can not get the system to boot from any IDE channel device so far.  I have tried 3 ATAPI CD/DVD drives...  the new NEC DVD burner, the Yamaha CD burner from my current PC and an older Toshiba CD-ROM drive.  In each case the system will spin the drive and then move on to the next device in the system boot sequence.
There is one very telling symptom... on the first BOIS section STANDARD CMOS FEATURES... under the PRIMARY IDE MASTER... the name of the detected device is all gobblegook characters.  This happens on all three drives.  If you hit ENTER and go tho the detailed sub-section it appears that the characteristics of each drive is properly detected but the manufacturers data string has the first 20 or so characters all garbage.  The last 8 or so characters of the string with the model number is OK.
I have tried to boot a Windows XP CD and a Windows 2000 CD from all three drives.  Once... out of at least 2 dozen tries on the older slow CD-ROM read-only drive I got a "NTLoader not found".  Every other boot attempt caused the drive to spin the CD... while the display showed a blinking cursor and then BIOS would move on to another device.  I can boot DOS from a Floppy without any problem.  The two SATA drives are detected without any of the garbage in the mfg data and seem to answer up OK... but who knows at this point.
My conclusion is that the motherboard IDE channel is bad.  Based on reading this forum, I have swapped through 3 80-wire IDE cables... switched to 40-wire IDE cables...  switched from MASTER to SLAVE to CABLE SELECT... tested all components successfully in my current PC
Any insight or advice is appreciated.  I have never had to return a motherboard (or any component) before during a PC build up.  All the stuff is from Newegg so I assume I'll be OK.
    Brian
PS...  I have had none of the start up symptoms described in the forum associated with the Antec NeoHE 550 power supply.

That trouble happends to me twice, many years ago with p3 PCs... In thefirst case when I'd boot up the POST shows garbage codes in IDE-0/1 channels and the trouble was the socket! I try another proccesor pushing down harder with the cooler and the information about IDE's were ok. In the second chapter, the trouble was the BIOS, the information about HD IDE auto configuration was wrong, I fix it writing manually the number of cylinder, clusters PIO mode and so on inside bios.... I hope this helps
PD. Advice: try options starting with only 1 HD, 1 cd drive, 1 MEMORY (IN SINGLE CHANNEL) and loading "default values" on bios to discard hardware, good luck

  • IDE Channel set up advise ?

I have always understood that the optimum IDE set up is to keep hard drives together and CDROM's and DVD together. I understood that if I combined the CDROM on the same IDE as a HD, that the IDE speed would be reduced to the lowest common demoninator (DMA33), hence I've kept them separate.
    My current setup,
Primary Master = OS / Boot hard drive (DMA100)
Primary Slave = Download / backup hard drive (DMA133)
    Secondary Master = CDROM-RW (DMA33)
Secondary Slave = spare (future DVD-RW)
A recent magazine article (CPU) recommended the opposite, that I place the second HD on the secondary channel and the CDROM on either channel, but preferably the primary.
Since I use the second drive for downloads and backups this makes some sense as backing up the primary HD I would be reading and writing on the same channel (as now) and the internet connection restricts my download speeds more than DMA33 would.
All thoughts, ideas and recommendations welcome. I'm also thinking of adding a DVD-RW at some point so advice for the future config would be appreciated.

Because there is many opinions out there and every system is more or less different I think the only way to find out is to benchmark every reasonable configuration.
If you try configuration you have now (2 harddrives on one channel) you may want to put the faster harddrive (DMA133) as a primary master. I read somewhere that faster drive should be a master.
Also, if you copy files from within the same IDE channel you will get slower transfers. Copying CDs/DVDs at high speeds within the same IDE channel without making temporary file is not recommended.
The answer is not simple :(
I had this issue some time ago and thought about it a lot. Finally, I bought an extra IDE controller and now I have 4 masters  :D (2 HDDs, DVD drive, DVD burner). This costs an extra 50 bucks, but everything is smooth now and I am getting maximal transfer from each of my guys :D .

  • Satellite Pro 4290: How to solve the IDE #1 error issue

I have recently aquired a DVD-ROM drive to upgrade my Sat Pro 4290 optical drive from a CD-ROM to DVD-ROM. As suspected I am having the problem that the drive is not recognised and get the IDE #1 error.
I can get windows XP to recognise the drive by deleting the Secondary IDE Channel in the Hardware and then searching for new new hardware. It then installs the IDE Channel and then finds and installs the DVD-ROM and works fine. I reboot the laptop and back to square one!
I understand it is something to do with the settings on the motherboard and somebody has resolved this by soldering pins to different places on theh IDE connectors.
I do not want to risk this and was wondering if anybody found an easier way of doing this?
    Many Thanks

    Hi
    > I understand it is something to do with the settings on the motherboard and somebody has resolved this by soldering pins to different places on the IDE connectors.
Thats not 100% true. This is not a setting issue on the motherboard but the setting of the CD/DVD drive.
The drive supports different master\slave\c-sel settings and if they are not compatible the BIOS will not recognize the drive correctly.
On the external drives (for desktop PC) its possible to change such settings by switching the jumper but this is not possible to the slim notebooks drives.
The notebook drives settings are stored in the firmware!!
I found different not legal tools which can change the master/slave/c-sel settings but I would not recommend using it.
The risks are too high that the drive will be damage.
So try to replace the drive with a compatible one

  • Add P-ATA drives: "Driver is not intended for this platform" for IDE Channel

With the S-ATA drives in my sig everything has worked without problems for a long time...
But when I tried to add an old P-ATA deathstar drive as master on first primary IDE and a LITE-ON dvd-rom as master on secondary my Windows XP reports hardware problems. When I enter Windows the hardware auto wiz starts working and after a little while reports that two devices of type "IDE channel" have "Driver is not intended for this platform", hints from the status bar says Primary IDE Channel and Secondary IDE Channel are found before showing the error window.
I currently use these settings in BIOS:
    Native Mode
    ATA Configuration - SATA only
    SATA Keep enabled - yes
    PATA Keep enabled - yes
    PATA channel selection - both
Weird thing is both the deathstar and the LITE-ON drive seem to work great in Windows. Of course I want to get rid of the exclamation marks in my device manager though. I read elsewhere drive emulation software could be a culprit, and renaming/deleting atapi.sys could be a problem solver - but not for me it turned out. Anyone got other methods to try out?
    I've tried...
    -other BIOS settings
-putting both devices on the same channel
    -changing master/slave settings
-misc windows tricks, re-installing Intel Chipset drivers, uninstalling devices etc
    -uninstalling Daemon Tools and TrueCrypt
The only thing all this accomplished is the I now got 4 devices with exclamation marks instead 2 when starting out.
I posted the same question here but was recommended to start a new one:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=58269.0
This sounds exactly like what I got except I got the problems when adding drives, not upgrading bios:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=51681.0

I got rid of the problem
Turns out an older daemon tools version wasn't completely removed, I had to delete files starting with d346 from c:\windows\system32\drivers and then also search and delete registry keys found with relation to those files. Now my device manager reports no problems.
d346* is files that come with v 3.46, I figure they are named in the same way for other versions.

  • Broadcom-wl channel 11 issue

    Hi,
I'm an Arch-noob and I'm having a really hard time configuring my macbook 5.1 to be able to access my company's WPA network on channel 13,which is perfectly legal/normal here , our "headquarters" are based in the Netherlands.
I hope this post doesn't collide to much with https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=111554 but that seems to focus mainly on stability issues of another driver and not so much on the channel >11 issue.
After having installed Arch and configured my wifi card following this wiki (thanks for providing such clear instructions Arch-community!):
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Broadcom_wireless
I have been provided with 11/13th of the functionality I need.
Joining networks that are in the 1-11 channel range is not a problem whatsoever. My Arch install is perfectly able to join all networks except for the ones that are on channel 13 (haven't come across any channel 12 WAP's that I know of yet). Joining channel >11 is no issue whatsoever on the same laptop (macbook for all apple-boys out there) running OSX 10.6.x and Windows 7 (which I both dislike and rather not use). These problems are becoming a little humiliating to endure, my co-workers (apple-fanboys :S) are making fun of me every morning when I connect my cat5e cable. Any help wiping the (somewhat justified...) smirk from their faces would be greatly appreciated!
Some information about my hardware / software:

Steps I have already taken trying to resolve this issue:
1 First i added this line to my /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf:
    options cfg80211 ieee80211_regdom=EU
and these lines to my /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist43.conf (should not matter, my wireless works fine except for channels 12/13):
    blacklist b43
    blacklist ssb
    Rebooted: no channel 13.
2 I followed the advice in the "Wireless Setup" wiki and installed the "crda" package. I added wireless-regdom to the "DAEMONS" line in my rc.conf:
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network netfs dbus hal wireless-regdom crond networkmanager)
I uncommented my country in /etc/conf.d/wireless-regdom.
    cat /etc/conf.d/wireless-regdom | grep NL
    WIRELESS_REGDOM="NL"
    Contents /lib/udev/rules.d/85-regulatory.rules:
    KERNEL=="regulatory*", ACTION=="change", SUBSYSTEM=="platform", RUN+="/sbin/crda"
    ACTION=="add" SUBSYSTEM=="module", DEVPATH=="/module/cfg80211", RUN+="/etc/rc.d/wireless-regdom start >/dev/null"
This does not seem to work.... If I execute crda manually (after rebooting ofc):
    /sbin/crda
    COUNTRY environment variable not set.
If I try to set the $COUNTRY manually in my shell (bash):
    export COUNTRY="NL"
    /sbin/crda
    nl80211 not found.
3 I tried manually setting the area in which I live:
    iw reg set NL
    nl80211 not found.
The nl80211 comment led me to believe that I had to use iwconfig instead, so:
    iwconfig eth1 channel 11
    Yey! seems to work but:
    iwconfig eth1 channel 12
Error for wireless request "Set Frequency" (8B04) :
SET failed on device eth1 ; Invalid argument.
4 I had a look at wpa_supplicant: they do seem to have some settings that set location:
    cat /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf | grep -i country
    # Country code
    # The ISO/IEC alpha2 country code for the country in which this device is
    country=NL
but I am under the impression that this only works if you are actually able to “see” the ssid's you want to join using network-manager or “iwlist eth1 scanning” .
5 I am quite deperate now; any help / pointers would be greatly appreciated!

according to the documentation those channels are disabled by default:
This generation of chips contain additional regulatory support independent of
the driver. The devices use a single worldwide regulatory domain, with channels
12-14 (2.4 GHz band) and channels 52-64 and 100-140 (5 GHz band) restricted to
passive operation. Transmission on those channels is suppressed until
appropriate other traffic is observed on those channels.
Within the driver, we use the ficticious country code "X2" to represent this
worldwide regulatory domain. There is currently no interface to configure a
    different domain.
you could try to enable them in the C code and recompile the drivers:
    [root@minos:~/linux-next-a694cb1/sys]% grep -n X2 wlc_channel.c
    487: "X2", LOCALES(i, 11, bn, 11n)}, /* Worldwide RoW 2 */
    638: strncpy(country_abbrev, "X2", sizeof(country_abbrev) - 1);
    647: strncpy(wlc->autocountry_default, "X2", WLC_CNTRY_BUF_SZ - 1);
    [root@minos:~/linux-next-a694cb1/sys]%
where i would suggest changing 'X2' with 'EU' or 'NL
    [root@minos:~/linux-next-a694cb1/sys]% sed -i '' 's/X2/EU/g' wlc_channel.c

  • FIS2R RAID as 3rd IDE channel?

Is it possible to configure the RAID controlller on the FIS2R for use as a 3rd IDE channel?
I've used up IDE 0 & 1 and still want to add another device to the system without using a serillel connection.

If the question you are asking is "Can I use IDE3 for a hard drive WITHOUT setting up a Raid array", then the answer is YES.
If you currently don't have anything on IDE3, and Serial 3+4, make sure the Promise controller is enabled and set to "as SATA" in the Bios. You'll also have to load the Promise SATA drivers for your OS.

  • Secondary IDE channels

I am using the msi 925x neo mobo
When using the secondary ide channels for normal non raid devices,
it seems as if the devices are running ata 33
the whole machine lags while accesing the device
ive tried optical or hdd devices
ive got ata 133 ide cables
the channels are configured as ide in bios
    thanks in advance

Yeah I seem to be having the same trouble.  I have been working on getting my sony dvd 16x burner to work for a week and a half.  Its telling me the current transfer mode is PIO which we all know is out of date.  I have tried everything I know to do to fix it and still havent been able to.  If anyone has fixed this problem can you please let me know what you did and how I can fix mine.  Its totally stressing me out!!!!

    Brief system specs:
    # CPU: Intel core2duo 6600 @ 2.4 GHz
    # Motherboard: p965 Neo
    # Memory: 2x 512

    # Drive(s): LG DVDr/CDr combo drive
    # OS:  Windows XP Home Sp2
    # PSU:  Ultra 500 watts
The main problem is that anytime I insert a cd/dvd into the drive and do something with it, such as installing programs or copying files etc., my computer becomes VERY slow and choppy and CPU usage goes to 100%.  I have the HDD running to the 1st SATA slot, and the Combo drive running to the only IDE slot.  Here's a screen shot of the device manager for this:
    http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/1036/ender4aq5.jpg
For some reason the Combo drive will only stay in PIO mode, despite reinstalling the device and switching it to DMA, it always reverts back to PIO.  I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the lag issue.
Another weird part about the screen shot is the SATA HDD is sitting in IDE channel.  Shouldn't it be in the Serial ATA controller part?
I'm pretty new to this stuff, so please break it down into something I can understand, if you can help.

    1. Is the drive flashed to the latest firmware?
    2. Does it function correctly in other machines? (I transplanted a DVD-rom from machine to machine at work to re-install xp pro on one and the drive died somewhere in between)
    3. Is the IDE cable attached firmly to back of drive and motherboard? (This can cause errors, crashes and other interesting phenomenem !)
    4. Are did you re-install windows after changing motherboard?
    5. Was is a DYI (do it yourself) build?       <----------\
    6. Are you a qualified technician or a home user? <---/\ = If you don't follow propper anti-static rules you will damage you components every time in some way, shape or form! (sick of people comming to me AFTER they have tried to do something themselves to save a few bucks and it ends up costing 100's or 1000's because they "thought" they knew what they were doing.)
    1. I have no idea.
    2. Yes, it worked in the same pc im using now, the old hdd was on the ide slot WITH the drive, and it worked fine.  I just got the new SATA hdd, so I'm using that.
    3. Yeah, cables are fine. The cable that goes into the SATA hdd seemed a little bent and was hard to put in, but I managed it so I doubt that's it.
    4. I reinstalled windows on the new hdd.
    6. Not really no.

  • Need inputs regarding the dvd drive on primary ide channel.

    Specs:
    Motherboard: MSI P35 Neo3 (MS-7935 1.0)
    CPU: Intel Core2 Duo E6550
Memory: Team Elite DDR2800 (2x1GB Dual Channel)
Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB 32MB Cache (SATA)
Optical drive: LG GSA-H55L (IDE only) Firmware version 1.02
    Graphics card: Gecube HD3870
    Chipset: Intel P35/G33/G31 (Rev. A2)
    Southbridge: Intel 82801IB (ICH9)
    LPCIO: Fintek F71882F
    BIOS: AMI V1.1 (11/07/2007)
    Hello,
Almost all new motherboards today only have a primary ide channel and the rest are SATA.
I need inputs regarding the dvd drive which is shown in device manager as located on the primary ide channel while the hard drive is located on the secondary channel. Because I would like to update the dvd drive to the latest firmware (version 1.06; to be able to recognize more blank media) but the LG site recommends that the drive (dvd) be located on the secondary ide channel.
I already tried to uninstall every channel from the device manager but all would still be the same after reboot, dvd drive on primary, hard drive on secondary.
Current ide mode in BIOS is set to AHCI+IDE mode, DMA modes are fine (UDMA4 for dvd, UDMA5 for hard drive), boot sequence (1st=HD, 2nd=DVD, 3rd=Floppy drive)
Tried switching to IDE mode only in BIOS but would not detect the optical drive. Never tried RAID+IDE mode since I only have a single hard drive.
I'm not sure but if I try to update the firmware, it might instead try to update the hard drive's firmware instead of the optical drive and make the hard drive unusable.
I would like to know if anybody with this same situation was able to successfully update the optical drive's firmware or is there some way to place the optical drive on the secondary ide channel and the hard drive on primary for me to follow and replicate the process.
    Thank you for any replies.

Thanks sir NovJoe for the reply.
Just received the solution from another forum where I posted the same problem.
They said that the flash program for the firmware will detect the drive on its own and would not flash other devices except the optical drive itself. So its pretty safe, and I can confirm this since I just flashed my ODD a little over a while ago and everything went fine. No errors.
Though I'm speaking for the brand of ODD I own and may be different for other brands so take precautions as well. It may be different for the others.

  • No Secondary IDE Channel

    Howdy,
I purchased a KT7A Pro board.  Upon installing it I found that I could not get the secondary IDE channel to recognize my drives.
I enabled it in the BIOS (Lateset) but nothing worked. I tried changing cables and jumpers & everything else that you could think of, but nothing worked. The primary channel would pick everything up just fine, but when I tried them on the secondary....zilch.
Okay...Bad Motherboard I figured so I went and exchanged it. In the process of taking out my Athlon XP 1700, I would up damaging it, so now I'm really PO'd.
Upon exchanging the board and getting a new 1700 chip you'd think that all was well....Nope, Nada.
Same problem, Secondary Channel will not work on the board. I am really disappointed as I like the features of the board, I just want my secondary channel to work.
I got a promise card and all the drives work great. They  consist of 2 80GB WD, a 32X10X24 CDRW and a 16X DVD. I'm running Win XP Pro with 1GB of RAM and I have a GeForce2 400MX with 64 MB .
What can I do to get the secondary channel to work, or what other options do I have?
    Thanks

I posted here at the end of January with the SAME problem.. I've got a K7T Turbo2, and the same thing is happening, the secondary IDE channel isn't picking anything up. I figured the board was defective, asked here AND asked an MSI tech through e-mail.  I took the board back to the store and had them order another one for me, but I'm still having the same problem..
I've tried every drive configuration under the sun, swapping cables, trying drives one by one, enabling and disabling random things that should have nothing do with the price of rice in china, but nothing.  Any clues would help, I can't keep taking boards back to the store.

  • IDE Channel Problem?

Some background...my computer went down because the motherboard went out.  I installed a new one and it was DOA...so I went with an MSI 865PE Neo2-PFS (Platinum Edition).  I got it up and running and everything is great except I get the following...
Currently, I have 2 HD's on the main IDE channel, 1 DVD-RW and 1 DVD-Rom on IDE channel 2.  I have a third IDE HD with an SATA converter on it hooked up to my SATA 1 port.  It registers fine and I can access all of the data.  I just keep getting this error.  When I disable it in the Device Manager, my "SATA" drive goes away.
By the way, I use the computer for music recording.  I don't want to hook my HD up as a slave to an optical as this could cause problems.  This config worked fine on my other mobo.
    Any help is appreciated.

Is your WinXP newly installed with this motherboard?
It could be the SATA converter you probably need a better driver for it. Can you tell more about this SATA converter that you have?
No, it is the same installation that was on the drive prior to the new motherboard.  Could I simply re-install the OS and clear this problem up without having to reformat the drive?
Oh, and here's the URL for the exact SATA converter I have.
