SATA II controller available in the UK?

Hi all,
Can someone please point me at a supplier that stocks a supported SATA II controller in the UK.
I stupidly bought a 400GB Western Digital drive before checking to see if it was supported.
After returning the first one because I thought it was faulty, but then having the same issue with the second one, I discovered that there are issues with this drive in the powermac G5 (dual 2Ghz) : http://tinyurl.com/kzjta
If anyone could recommend a card as well, that would be awesome thanks

Found a Sonnet Tempo-X eSATA 4+4 but this doesn't support booting

  • How to Reset the Sata Link Controller for Full Sata 3 speeds on an OCZ Agility 3

So I purchased a new OCZ Agility 3 drive, installed it into the main bay of my 2012 Macbook Pro, and the drive was running at half speed. I called OCZ and spoke to the guys about how to resolve this issue, they were very knowledgeable, but they had no ideas how to make thier Linux Live Tool work on the Mac, which gives us the ability to reset the controller. Here's what I did to get the full speeds out of my OCZ Agility 3.
    - You will need a Windows computer, or the ability to create and install Windows on a Bootcamp partition on your Mac.
    - Thumb Drive
    - Lots of Patience
    1. Open Disk Utility and create one partition on your thumb drive under MS-DOS Fat 32. Click the Options tab and select “Master Boot Record.”
    2. Go to the OCZ forum and download the older Linux Live Tool version: OCZ_Tools_316-old.zip. From my experience, the newer version doesn’t work on the 2012 Macbook Pro.
3.Download the “Universal USB Installer” for Windows, and follow the steps to install the ISO to your Thumb Drive using the instructions located on the OCZ Forum. http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?99275-NEW!-Bootable-Linux -based-tools-for-OCZ-SSD-s&p=714047&viewfull=1#post714047
    4. Once the ISO is successfully copied to the Thumb Drive, insert the USB stick into your Mac with the OCZ SSD installed in the Main Bay, Power On, and hold down the “Option” key. You should see a yellow hard disk icon that says “Windows,” select it and press enter.
    5. Once the OCZ Tool loads up, click the “Green Arrows” to put the drive into Sata II mode. Shutdown the computer, power on, and check the System Profiler. The drive should be running at Sata II speeds.
    6. Shutdown the computer and boot into the OCZ Tool, and click on the “Red Arrows.” This will reset the controller to its default mode of Sata III (Sata 6 Mode).
    7. Check the speed of the drive using the disk speed test of your choice. The drive should now be running at full speed.
The biggest accomplishment here was actually getting the OCZ Linux Live Tool to load on a 2012 Macbook Pro. The newer version of the tool doesnt support the USB 3.0 drivers, so you loose the funtion of your trackpad and keyboard or bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
**Note: Black Magic Disk Speed Test Version 2.0 may give you lower numbers than expected due to the compression method in testing the drive. I would prefer using XBench or Disk Speed Test Version 1.0**
***Here's a link to a thread that explains how to properly install your OS onto the drive. If not done correctly, this can also cripple the speed of the drive.***

I can almost see a big grin appearing in Bob's avatar...
Hopefully his reply has given you a clue already?
    If not, some explanation:
Many settings in the standard "Media" panel (for both video and audio) don't apply for publications that need to go the Folio-way. This panel is mainly concerned with lovely Flash stuff, but apart from the Poster frame and the Markers, it is useless for Folio's.
A quick guide: create a video with the necessary codec (H.264 for video, MP# or AAC for audio) at the required pixel size (exact width/height). Simply Place the file in InDesign, but don't scale it (or recreate and place a properly sized new video afterwards). Choose what to do with the Poster frame (and maybe some Markers), but all other settings are done in the Overlay Creator.
Check Bob Bringhurst's Tutorials and his DPS Tips app for more info. But I guess you get the idea now.

  • Intel(R) ESB2 SATA RAID Controller not working out of the box

    Dear all,
I'm using, for my tests, an old server with a supermicro X7DBN Server motherboard.
This motherboard comes with an embedded Intel(R) ESB2 SATA RAID Controller.
When I try a native installation from the technical preview DVD it sees the RAID1 volume that has been created (2 disk mirror) but when I select it to proceed with the installation there is an unknown error stating that it's impossible to write to this disk.
The same installation works perfectly with 2012R2 and the out of the box driver provided bin the install media.
An update from the previously installed 2012R2 to the Windows Server Technical Preview also works without problem.
It would make sens for MS to revert to the driver version embedded in 2012R2 for Intel(R) ESB2 SATA RAID Controller which is:
    Name : Intel(R) ESB2 SATA RAID Controller
    Date : 10.08.2010
    Version : 8.6.2.1025
    inf section : iaStor_Inst_RAID
    Device ID : PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2682&CC_0104

    Hi,
Thank you for the information. As you said from the behavior it seems that the build-in drivers of Windows Server Technical Preview will not work with the specific motherboard hence the RAID1 cannot work well.
    I'll log the issue down.

  • How to change SATA disk controller on Toshiba Satellite A135 s2276

Hello guys, I know that there was a similar question already (kindly answered by Mike), but my situation differs a little.
I'm trying to install the SSD intead of my hard drive.
Problem is that even though BIOS can see the SSD I cannot install Windows on it (tried XP and 7). Cannot even format it from installation disk (it just hangs).
When I hook it up on a usb cable, it works fine (SSD). I can format it (from windows) and copy files on it like and external drive it doesn't have any issues.
When I try to install windows on it (either from a CD or usb) it hangs. The same situation is if I try to install the system when the SSD is in usb port or if I put it inside, where my hard drive originally is (SATA connection). It just seets there. Comes to copying files and then stops.
I think I'd need to change the SATA disk controller in BIOS (sata to ide or compatibility mode) in order for it to work, however there's no such an option in the latest BIOS for this model (1.60).
    Any help appreciated, thanks Miki
ps. update - I succesfully installed windows on another Toshiba (which has the option to change the sata controller in bios), using the same SSD so I think this is definitely the problem. Any ideas apart from buying a newer comp?

    Hi
If such option is NOT available in BIOS then you will be no able to change this!!!
In such case the HDD controller will say in SATA mode and if you want to install an operating system then you need to install the SATA drivers firstly!
    Bye

  • Advice for SATA 3 Controller & Fibre Ethernet Mac Pro Mid 2010

    All
I have a few Mac Pro Mid 2010, One of which is dedicated as a main file server and currently runs OS X Lion Server, and will likely be upgraded at some point to Mountain Lion Server when OS/App is bug free (got caught with early OS X Lion Server implementation, so a little more cautious this time around).
Within there are 4 X WD RE4 Enterprise 2TB SATA 3 HDD's in a RAID 10 configuration (4TB useable ~ aka Raid 1+0, provides good data redundancy), with an OCZ Agility 3 SSD for Boot and Superdrive, no spare SATA. It all works quite well.
This Mac Pro frequently serves other Mac Pro (workstations) large +300mb and numerous small +1mb files (engineering analysis datasets) simutaneously, the workstations dump their compiled data from their SSD Scratch to this server, so there is a lot of data transfer back and forth. The server also acts as focal for Time Machine Backups for the Mac Pro and Macbooks, whilst providing a SMB and iSCSI backup location for legacy Windoze Server (Mail/FTP server) and Windoze PC VM's. Ethernet is 802.3ad bonded (2Gb link) to LAN backbone switch (32Gb bandwidth managed switch with 2Gb SMF or SFP fibre capability X 2 = 4Gb bond).
I appreciate the Mac Pro currently has a SATA 2 controller, I would like advice on drop in replacement SATA 3 controller. I have read many articles on the web with Pro's and Con's for various PCIe cards, with some SATA 3 controllers able to boot, others not capable. Some SATA3 controllers appear to have been taken directly from the Windoze arena with not real support backup etc and it is difficult to know what to go for and indeed what is actually compatible with current and future OS X and Mac Pro base hardware as the articles maybe are not current. I warrant the experience of real Mac Pro users.
Initially I would like to achieve a configuration which permits SATA 3 transfer with existing RAID 10 and Boot SSD setup. Secondly have the possibility of RAID 5 (would add in another WD RE4 Enterprise 2TB SATA 3 HDD to existing array), and maybe also eSATA as this Mac Pro in entirety backs up daily to a Synology DS1511+ which has eSATA and would take some strainout of the ethernet link to the server.
Additionally with a SATA 3 RAID setup, it's likely even with both inbuilt ethernet 802.3ad bonded the link could become saturated, what experience of Fibre Ethernet I'm guessing these would be PCIe cards?
    Thanks in advance.

    Wow! The problem rectified itself.
Inexplicably, after two hours went by, the suspended job just started running again.  Weird.
Basically an hour and a half after trying to find a solution and coming here to write for help, when I went back to try something else I noticed that the suspended job had finally resumed all on its own accord.
I had tried setting and unsetting the spare and restarting the Mac Pro several times to no avail.
The last time I set the disk as a spare was 1:10 p.m., and the rebuild job started up on it's own at 2:06 p.m. -- weird that it waited almost an hour, but I'm just happy it is working.
    Problem "solved."

  • [VIA] Cannot Boot From SATA PCI Controller With On Board RAID Enabled

    Hi.
I have a KT3 ULTRA 2 with onboard RAID controller. I have installed a SUNIX 2 port SATA PCI Controller which works perfectly & appears in the selectable boot devices.  This is not a problem except for the fact that I have 4 devices on the On-Board Raid Controller.  When the on-board raid controller is enabled, the SATA device dissapears from the boot options & I can no longer boot from the SATA controller.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Many Thanks

    I had already tried that....
I set the boot sequence to use the SATA card & then renabled the on-board raid, but after reboot the sata card is not available as a possible boot device & asks me to insert system disk...even if the boot sequence is set to boot from other devices.
Really annoyying this, looks like I am going to have to get a different motherboard for something so silly.  I am already at the latest bios release.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in windows Server Forum.
From the error description it seems that broker connection is not established well and also there might be some permission issue with user and groups. Please verify that RDSH can communicate with RDCB servers well.
Remote Desktop Connection Broker (RD Connection Broker), formerly Terminal Services Session Broker, is a Remote Desktop Services role service in Windows Server 2008 R2 that supports session load balancing between RD Session Host servers in a farm, connections
to virtual desktops, and reconnection to an existing session in a load-balanced RD Session Host server farm.

  • Locked Frequency on Promise SATA/PATA Controller on K8T Neo FIS2R?

We all know that there is no PCI lock on any K8T800.  However, this link to an Athlon 64 info page on Mushkin's website declares that the Promise contoller on the Asus K8V board has a "locked" frequency.  You'll have to scroll down to the heading "The boards currently most in demand for the Athlon64 are:" and read the *.
Question number 1, does the K8T Neo have an identical Promise controller to the Asus K8V (I think it does)?  Question number 2, is it even possible for any SATA/PATA controller to "lock" it's frequency since it's on a PCI bus?  Question number 3, can anyone verify that this frequency is locked or not?
I know there are software tools out there to check the hypertransport speed, etc.  but is there a tool that could test the speed at the controller?  If this link from Mushkin is true, then you would be crazy to overclock on anything but the Promise controller given the history of this board scrambling hard drives when overclocked.

Actually, it's a 4.5 pound Smallmouth Bass I caught at Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia last March.  It was taken with a digital camera and I had to shrink down the size to fit here, but no editing was done.  It's the real deal.  Almost worthy of a citation, missed it by a half pound or a half inch.

Can I get a SAT NAV for my i Pad. I need the satnav to work in the USA

There are navigation apps available in the app store (try searching for 'sat nav') - but whether there is one which has US mapping on it might depend upon what country that you are in. Here in the UK there are TomTom US & Canada, Navfree GPS USA, and possbily others.
What model iPad do you have ? Only the cellular models have a built-in GPS chip, the wifi-only models don't.

Yes I did see that article, and there are plenty of logs from another device that authenticates via
RADIUS. Requests from our 802.1x wireless network are giving the "the specified domain does not exist" error. I can enter the username asusername,
    username@domain, or domain\username and
    neither method fixes the error.

  • Oracle Ent. Linux  drivers for HP Smart Array B110i Sata Raid Controller

Trying to install Oracle Ent. Linux (OEL) release 4 update 8 on HP DL 180 G6 server. Where we can find OEL drivers for the sata raid controller ?
(HP Smart Array B110i Sata Raid Controller)
    Thanks in advance.

The HP support side shows a Linux certification matrix at: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/hplinuxcert.html
From there you can also download the necessary drivers and instructions or use HP smartstart CD which prepares the system for the OS you need to install. Oracle Enterprise Linux is binary compatible with RHEL. You will need to click on "Archive" to see support for Enterprise Linux version 4 and older.
Also interesting should be Red Hat Enterprise Linux Technical Exceptions at

  • What sata version is supported in the dv7t-7300 model laptop?

What sata version is supported in the dv7t-7300 model laptop?  Does the 1.5TB 7200rpm drive support 3Gb/s or 6Gb/s transfer rates?
    Thank you much!
    Chuck

    Hi, Chuck:
Unfortunately, HP does not advertise that info, but the chipset in your notebook does support SATA III.
I would hope that when HP designed the notebook, they connected the hard drive (even if it is SATA II) to an available SATA III port the motherboard chipset offers.
