SATA II HDD for HP ProBook 4710s ?

Hello guys,
I have great notebook - HP ProBook 4710s (VC436EA#AKB) and I need new HDD.
Old HDD was 535765-001 - 500GB SATA. New HDD are only SATA II or SATA III. Is it ok for me, or is it a problem?
Any ideas, please?
Thank you a lot,
Lukas, Czech Republic

It is not a problem.
SATA drives are downwardly compatible. The downside is that the SATA3 drive will only run at the bandwidth  of the controller it is connected to.
Best regards,
erico

  • HP Probook 4710s shuts down for no reason!

    Hello everyone,
I own an HP Probook 4710s laptop for about 3 months now.
Recently I played Call Of Duty MW2 and after a while of playing it just shut down for no reason.
I played it before on my laptop but it didn`t shut down.
And just recently I played Age Of Empires 3 and it also shut down.
It happened twice with Age Of Empires.
Tho it never happened when I wasn`t playing games I`m still concerned and would appriciate any kind of help or explenation from anyone.
    Thank you.

Check your Event Viewer logs at the time of the shutdown and look for critical errors and events.  It sounds like a heat problem.
You might want to check for a bios and/or a video card update here.

  • Adding SATA hdd for games..7200 OR 10000??

I'm going to be adding a SATA HDD for gaming and choosing between WD Raptor 36GB 10000@$120 or Seagate 80GB 7200@$70. Size isn't as important as performance, which is best bang for the buck??
    Thanks in advance

...best bang for the buck can be interpreted different ways...this is how I look at it...the Raptor is over $3 per GB, the other is ~ $1 per GB...
...just get the Raptor...that's what you want...

  • External Firewire box for PATA and/or SATA I - SATA II HDDs

    Hi all,
I'm looking for a weird thing, and I don't know whether it exists or not.
I've got a bunch of PATA HDDs now on shelf, and I'm wondering how to use them as external backup.
I googled to find a Firewire box for 4 or 5 PATA and/or SATA I - SATA II HDDs, I didn't find anything, do you know about something similar ?
    Thanks,
    Peloche,
    MacPro 2.66, 6GB, 1TB; Mini G4, 1.45, 1GB; iPod 60 GB; 30" & 20" ACD; Apple IIC   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   X1900XT

    Briefly,
This item Stardom SOHOBANK U6-4S-S2 Backplane cost :
    220 euros +
    20 euros transport +
    10 euros eSATA cable +
100 euros PCIe eSATA card =
Roughly 350 euros and I have to supply HDDs.
I investigate about my existing HDDs stock :
    1 x 250 Go +
    2 x 120 Go +
    1 x 80 Go =
570 Go and the enclosure is full.
I've had a look at French Apple Store they have a MiniMax 640 Go Iomega + hub FireWire / USB integrated for 399 euros (not available on US Apple Store).
They have also Iomega 320 Go USB 2.2 for 149 euros.
But I'm concerned about the next future, that means tomorrow, when Leopard starts to hunt beginning of 2007, a nice feature called "Time Machine" will be available.
This real time backup (if I understood well this feature) will oblige the backup disk to be "on" permanently, that is to say more permanent noise if backup storage is external.
I've had a look at my existing Mac Pro configuration, I've got:
    Bay 1 : free
    Bay 2 : 1 x 300 Go SATA II
    Bay 3 : 1 x 250 Go SATA II
    Bay 4 : 1 x 250 Go SATA II
    Port 6 : 1 x 150 Go SATA I (Motherboard)
I'm considering buying a 500 Go Maxtor pro line for Bay 1 for backup purpose only, what do you think ?
    Thanks,

  • HDD for SSHD

Hello, 6 months ago I bought
    HP probook 450 g0 - i5-3230m, 8GB RAM, Radeon HD 8750m and 1TB HDD SATA II 5400rpm
Although i am satisfied with the product I find the HDD a bit slow for my taste and my question is, whether I can upgrade the HDD for a Seagate Laptop SSHD Thin 1000GB or some other SSHD.
I haven't considered SSD because i need atleast 500GB of storage and that would be too expensive.
    Thanks a lot

Yes no problem it will work fine.

  • Probook 4710s, black screen, no activity: BIOS corrupted?

Hi, I have a HP Probook 4710s ENERGY STAR model. It is no longer the boot: the screen remains black, no prompt appears. The fan and hard drive run but there is no activity on the HD (LED this is not the signals). I think that has corrupted the BIOS. So, I tried to reload the original BIOS from a USB flash drive (512 MB), starting the notebook and holding the keys "Windows" and "B" with the power button (also tried with the combination "FN" + "B ", then simultaneously holding down the four arrows): I can see that in all cases the pendrive is found and read, but after a few seconds it emits only a constant flashing and nothing happens. During all these attempts, the LED on the "ALTBLOCK" flashes continuously at intervals of about 1 second.
Can anyone help me figure out what is the problem and how to solve it?
Also, I would like to know if this Probook uses a Phoenix BIOS, or if another type.
    Thanks for the support

  • Need new HDD for Satellite L300-1BD

    Hey,
the HDD in my Toshiba Satellite laptop isn't working anymore.
So I'm going to buy a new one today but which one do i need? Like how many inch? And is it a SATA connection or something?
Could someone please tell me to what i have to look when I buy a new HDD for this laptop

    Hello Vivendi
One thing is strange to me: I presume that your L300 notebook is pretty new one and I don't understand why you want to buy new HDD. Is warranty still valid?
Please check it. If the warranty is still valid contact nearest authorized service provider and I am sure you will get replacement for free.
If you want to buy it I also presume you want to replace it alone. So, remove the old HDD and on the white label you will find all necessary information about HDD.
Anyway, you need 2,5 SATA HDD.

  • I am trying to decide on a HDD for off site backup

I am trying to decide on a HDD for off site backup, should I use a bus powered drive or  brick powered?  Should I go cheaper with a powered unit or convenience of a bus powered drive.  I would clone my computer and bring it to a friends house. I would do this 2 or 3 times a year just to have an off-site backup of my personal stuff.

How you connect the drive is really what will determine what in my opinion is best. If you connect directly to the iMac then get a brick powered drive. The reason being is iMac's are not known for supplying a lot of power from their USB ports and if you want your backup to be reliable it has to get good power. However if you are using a powered USB hub hanging a bus powered drive should be fine. I also think that if you are going to use the backup as a clone  don't get a USB drive, that's just plain not too smart. Yes it would work however the performance would be awful, if you run into a situation where you rely on that drive for a time to run your Mac you'll hate the experience. In that case get a good Firewire 800 drive which will provide acceptable performance, never as good as a SATA drive but decent performance none the less. That being said if you do decide to get a FW800 drive it will be powered by a brick as I don't thing there is such a thing as a bus powered FW800 port.

  • Use 2 hdd for itunes, iphoto, etc...

Well the latest 10.4.10 update has killed my hdd for some reason.
System reboots but is stuck at the grey screen.
I managed to add a smaller 80G sata drive and reinstall 10.4 on it.
Doing this has allowed me access back the hdd I used to boot and run of off.
So now I am running a quick iBackup all my important files, itunes, iphoto, etc....
My question, though is I am thinking of leaving the 80G hdd as the main boot hdd, and then use the 250G as my main source for files.
This is really how I ran my Windows machines (years ago).
Main hdd for the OS only and a secondary for all my files.
Is there a way to easily do this with OS X?
Will this cause an issue with software updates?
Can I tell itunes, iphoto, and other applications where to look for their main "library" without causing a duplication of files back on the main 80G hdd?

Well, I ended up grapping a larger 160G hdd I had and reinstalling OS X again.
I went and got all the updates for it, and then I ran migration manager.
It pulled everything from my old hdd.
So now I am up and running as good as new, but on a smaller hdd.
I might try the moving of the iphoto and itunes folder like linked above.
I would also like to do the same with the documents folder.
You have a instruction for that as well?
If not, that really best thing to do (unfortunately) would be to slick the original 250G hdd, reinstall, update (again) and then do the migration manager on it.

  • 320GB HDD for White 2009 MacBook

    Hi,
Recently bought a 2009 White MacBook (the one with the new NVIDIA graphics) and it came with just the default 120GB HDD as I figured it would be cheaper for me to buy and install a larger HDD than pay Apple £175GBP for the pleasure. The HDD which came as standard is a Hitachi model. One of the build-to-order options is for a 320GB HDD 5400RPM drive so my assumption would be this is the biggest I could go for.
However, when trawling the internet shopping places I usually use here in the UK, the only Hitachi drives which are 320GB in capacity are SATA 300 (SATA II) drives. As far as I know, the MacBook only has a SATA 150 port in it, which means SATA 300 drives will not work. When searching for the biggest SATA 150 drives, they all seem to top out at around 200/250GB.
I have searched on the Apple Support page and forums and all the tech specs seem to point to the fact that the MacBook is truly a SATA 150 unit only, but this does not seem to explain the seeming absence of 320GB SATA 150 HDDs.
Can someone finally confirm if SATA 150 is truly the only option for the MacBooks and if they know of somewhere they can get a 320GB version of this? I am prepared not to use a brand of drive other than Hitachi if that is the only option, but would prefer to stick with this brand if possible as Apple obviously uses it for a reason.
    Many thanks
    Mark

You can definitely use SATA II drives in the macbook, if you like. You can currently buy drives up to 500GB in size. Just make sure whatever drive you buy is 9.5mm tall, which is the majority of them. As far as brand, any of them are fine... Apple uses Hitachi or Fujitsu. I currently have a Western Digital in mine.

  • Serial-ATA II HDD for my MacPro 5,1

Is ist possible to use a Serial-ATA II HDD for my MacPro 5,1 (from 2010) with the Serial-ATA I Port?
    Thank you guys

Mac Pro (tower) from 2010 does not have a Serial-ATA I port. They are all SATA II. Did you check the date on the article that convinced you they were SATA I ? Maybe it was from 2006 ?
All SATA II drives work fine. If using the Apple RAID card you are limited to drives under 2.2 GB each drive.
Green drives are not for performance. OK for backup, though.

  • Probook 4710s & ADI Soundmax driver Windows 7 64bit

I recently installed a new hard drive into my HP Probook 4710s and installed a new version of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
I am unable to install the audio driver.  I have downloaded the ADI SoundMax AD1984A audio driver for Microsoft Windows 7 sp45115.exe.
However, it will not install.  The error message I get is "the audio driver does not support your computer hardware"
In Device Manager, the driver is Microsoft High Definition Audio Driver v. 6.1.7600.16385
Under Control Panel - Sound the Playback device is Digital Audio HDMI, High Definition Audio Device, Not plugged in.  I am unable to click on configure or set as default
When i place the mouse over the sound icon lower left it says no speakers or headphones are plugged in.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Sorry that didn't work.
I have the HP Eltebook 6930p with the same audio chip.
You will see it listed as one of the notebooks supported by the same audio driver.
I have some questions for you to see if we can get the sound working.
    1. When you first installed windows 7 without adding any drivers, did you have audio?
I did when I installed W7. That was the version without SP1. So, I would be somewhat surprised that since your notebook uses the same audio chip as mine, that W7 installed without the audio working.
    2. Whether or not you had audio after installing W7, did you install the following drivers in the generally recommended order of installation, and reboot after each individual install of the following drivers?
    That order being:
First,      --  Intel Chipset Installation Utility
    Second, --  Graphics
    Third,     --  Audio
If you answered no to this question, that could be the cause of the issue.
My recommendation in that case, would be to reinstall W7 and try again using the above approach.
