Sata-II or Sata-III -- R945 and Z935 series

are R945 or z935 laptops series support sata-III ??

I have the Z935 and from Device Manager I can see the Intel(R) 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller.
From the Intel web site that is part of the HM77 mobile series chipset. That chipset includes USB 3.0 and SATA III.
I upgraded to a Crucial M4 256GB mSata III SSD and I get read speeds in excess of 300 Mbps as measured by HDTune.
So I believe the Z935 is truely SATA III. I cannot speak for the newer R series models.

I was wondering if the late 2011 macbook pro uses SATA II or SATA III for the hard drive. The reseason I'm asking this is because some day I'm going to replace the Hard drive for a SSD drive down the road and would like to use all the performance of the SATA controler.

    SATA III.

  • Big Problems with Samsung Series 830 SSD SATA III (256GB) and W520

    Hi,
i get my W520 last week with an normal SATA 500 GB Drive, at home i changed it to a Samsung Series 830 SSD SATA III (256GB) and install windows 7 64bit pro via recovery media.
I was wondering, startup was taking very long .... from starting windows to the logon screen 1.45 minutes ... Now i tried a new recovery, same issue, tested the harddisk which is in good state.
I changed back to the 500GB Drive, startup take only 30 seconds around....
    Are there any known issues?

  • SATA III for Pavilion dv7t series

Do both hard drive slots in the dv7t series support the SATA III spec (6 Gb/Sec) ?

    MaddMaxxine wrote:
Yeah, I've been researching this subject, and it seams that this situation can occur if they used a SATA II cable (4-wire) to connect the SSD instead of a SATA III cable (10-wire).  Apparently, you can use a SATA II cable with SATA II or SATA III devices/ports, and the connection will function at SATA II speeds.  However, a SATA III cable will not work with a SATA II device/port.
Does anyone know if the available HDD caddy kits for dv7-6000 laptops contain SATA II or SATA III cables?
Crap!  Everyone please ignore this.  I had my head up my butt earlier today.  This pertains to USB2 vs USB3, not SATA II vs SATA III.  There's no real difference in SATA cables.  If you look at the design specs, you will see that they are the same.  Sorry for the confusion.

  • Sata-II or Sata-III?

Hey everyone. Me again. I'm back to my hard drive replacement for my Macbook Pro Mid-'10 again, but this time it's about compatability. I've done extensive reasearch on what hard drive I want and I've narrowed it down to one (shown in the first link) but I keep getting mixed opinions on running Sata II vs Sata III in a Macbook Pro Mid-'10. Some say that you can only run a Sata II because that's the interface they were built with and wont communicate with an Sata III while others disagree. I even did a search from OWC's website (shown in the second link below) on what upgrade options I have and they have a hard drive with Sata III listed. I'm so confused. Is there anyone who can give me a straight answer?

  • S415 SATA Interface - SATA II or SATA III?

Does anyone know what type of SATA interface is available on the S415? Is it SATA II or SATA III?

bridle_post wrote: How do I determine if my HP Pavilion HPE h8-1160 CTO supports SATA III?  HP documentation doesn't seem to be specific about SATA II or SATA III.  Considering an SDD upgrade.  Thanks.
Hello bridle_post. It appears these series of HP systems ships with either an AMD chipset and an Intel chipset.
Both these chipsets in a retail motherboard support Sata lll, but it appears that in the HP motherboard version, Sata ll are only supported.
Here  is a link to the specifications for this system with the Intel chipset, and it shows the specification for the hard drives as 3 GB/s.
Here  is the link to the AMD motherboard, and it also shows 3GB/s.

  • Is my MacBook Pro early 2011 SATA II or SATA III ? Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,1

    Hello all,
I'm thinking about updating my HD to a SSD to give my "mature" MAC an speed bump.
    QUESTION:
Is my MacBook Pro early 2011 SATA II or SATA III ????
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,1
      Processor Name: Intel Core i5
      Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
      Number of Processors: 1
      Total Number of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
      L3 Cache: 3 MB
      Memory: 4 GB

Hold down the option key and, under the Apple () menu, select System Information. Under Hardware, look at the SATA/SATA Express tab and you'll see:
6 Gigabit is SATA III speed.
    Good luck,

Often, rebooting, or deleting the waiting app and re-installing, will do the trick.

    Hi:
The Intel HM77 Express chipset in your model can run a hard drive at the sata III speed.
    Your notebook's product specs page:

  • A600 Replacing SATA HDD with SATA SSD

I have reviewed the current knowledge base materials, but don't see one directly tied to my problem.  Appreciate any help received.
My current HDD has been making a lot of noise lately, at least much more than I have heard in the past.  It's a little over 5 years old.  I bought an Intel 730 series 240G SSD, and have tried to use that drive as my primary drive, replacing the current one.  I used Intel's cloning software, which took a while, but appeared to be successful.  My problem is that the BIOS does not recognize the new drive.  Looking in the BIOS, my SATA drive 0 now shows "None", and the screen at power-up fails with "No Boot Filename received".  Is there an issue with the BIOS not recognizing newer SSD's?  I've read other inputs saying that people have been successful in powering up via new SSDs, so I thought it could be done.  Anyone have any thoughts?  Appreciate it.

Thanks Caveman31 for your thoughts. I checked the BIOS, and this model has very limited BIOS options, which don't include any options for SATA control. There are probably 1/2 of the options in my Lenovo A600 BIOS, then in my generic PC (ASUS motherboard) I put together a couple years ago. It has a menu option for SATA control, located in the "Main" tab of the BIOS screen.
Unless there are some other options, or a way to get more control with this BIOS, I won't be able to select between AHCI or IDE regarding the SATA control. Do you know if that's the only way for me to replace my HDD with a SSD for this computer?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Which Hard Drive SATA II or SATA 3 ?

I plan to add second hard driver for desktop Lenovo 3000 K100 model # 57061334
just wonder which hard drive it supports,  SATA II or SATA 3  ?
    Thanks.

not even 15,000 RPM SAS drives can fully saturate a 1.5 Gb/sec channel by themselves.   the best i've seen in my own tests is just over 130 MB/sec read and write.   SATA 6.0 Gb/sec specs are pointless even for the best spinning platter hard drives, even in RAID 0.
with that said, the K100 uses a SATA 3.0 Gb/sec controller.   while SATA 6.0 Gb/sec hard drives are backward compatible with 3.0 controllers, the best you'll see is around 80~110 MB/sec on any drives you're considering.
if the WD 640 GB is on sale and it fits your needs, buy it.

  • OVM 2.1.2 does not recognize SATA 150 or SATA 300 disks with Intel  ICH10R

OVM 2.1.2 does not recognize SATA 150 or SATA 300 disks.
This same machine recognizes these disks with Enterprise Linux 5.2 x86-64.
The motherboard uses the onboard SATA connectors:

I could install 2.1.2 with some ancient IDE disks.
Is there something I can tweak to get the SATA disks recognized?

Just a wild guess on my part. Look in your /etc/modprobe.conf on your working config. Then try copying that kernel module over to your OracleVM server if it is not already there. If the OracleVM server already has the module then check modprobe.conf on your OracleVM server to verify the module settings are in there.

  • 500GB DVR wouldn't stop resetting, now all recordings and scheduled series gone

I saw similar threads on this topic, but not sure its the same or not. On 1/11, we were watching a recorded show and it started blinking out a few times, then reset itself. It came back on and then did it again a bit later. We rebooted by unplugging it for a few seconds and it came back.
Then last night (1/12), we were watching a different recording, and the DVR reset itself. When it finished, it reset again. It continually did this around 5 times and then we unplugged it and plugged it back in. It still would just reset and reset. Unplugged again for longer. Repeat. Finally got it to stop resetting by leaving it unplugged while I ate dinner. Got it back to the place in the show we were watching, but the family had dispersed, so I turned it off. Later that night, I was watching from another STB (we have Home Media set up), and I saw the DVR said No recordings. Uh oh. I went to the DVR and turned it on and it showed No recordings and no series scheduled. I tried rebooting again a couple times and no luck. (It wasn't resetting anymore though!)
So I called customer support. I had to get to Tier III before they would agree to send me a new box. Neither knows what happened. They tried resetting remotely and re-initializing and still No recordings. They say they are sending me out a new box.
I'm not sure if we got a guide update or not. I don't remember seeing the "For HD press C", but I might have just missed it. Same with the captions options having all the options from the old system menu.
The tech guy said to call billing after we receive the new DVR to see about compensation. If it was an update that caused this and not just a hard drive issue, I am super-**bleep**. In any case, I'm also **bleep** that they don't try to physically get the recordings back. No one wants to get data off a hard drive... Fortunately I had already watched the latest Downton Abbey!

Though I don't know the size on my DVR, what you describe has been happening to me for three days now, too. Was annoying at first; now it's getting horrible, like every hour or two this happens.
A new box is coming in the mail, but still, this is looking like a more common issue than it ought to be. I'm still in my 30 day "cancel" window for FiOS TV, and I'm about ready to switch right back at this stage.

  • What is the difference between Satellite Pro 4200 and 4300 series?

As mentioned in another thread, I have a SP4220XCDT that died on me.
I bought a mobo from ebay which was from a 4290, and today it arrived, but the problem was that it has a seemingly fixed CPU, which stands out much less from the board than the one on the 4220 board, and therefore does not connect with the cooling mechanism from my 4220.
At least something comes on when I start up now, but unfortunately it doesn't get past the Toshiba screen which tells you to press F2 for boot sequence.
Having also spent money on memory and a new cpu, I don't want to let this one go, and have seen a motherboard available suitable for a 4320/40/60 - anyone know if this will fit in with the rest of my 4220? It doesn't have a cpu so presumably will have the same mechanism as the 4220 mainboard.
I'm assuming that these might be compatible since I have managed to find a pdf of a service manual which covers both the 4200 and 4300, although unfortunately the first page is missing so I dont' know if that highlights any differences.
It's frustrating that there are no pdfs available for these older models, at least with specs on them, and it's very hard to find any info.
As usual, thanks for any help!

    Hi
As far as I know both series uses the Intel Mobile Pentium III microprocessor with MMX?Technology.
    I found out these details:
Satellite 4260 Series: Mobile Pentium III 450MHz
Satellite 4270 Series: Mobile Intel Celeron 500MHz
Satellite 4280 Series: Mobile Pentium III 500MHz
Satellite 4320 Series: Mobile Pentium III 600MHz featuring Intel SpeedStep Technology
Satellite 4340 Series: Mobile Pentium III 650MHz featuring Intel SpeedStep Technology
The notebooks measures should be also the same. So in my opinion it should be possible to use the same motherboard in Satellite Pro 4200 and 4300.
