Sata lock working?

Just bought a Neo2 Platinum and haven't booted yet. I plan to do some major oc'ing but when i read this i didn't have a good feeling.
http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&number=3&artpage=890&articID=228
It says you can't oc to far with a HD connected to sata1 or sata2.
Is this still a problem? Can i just connect to sata3 and install windows from there? Not going to use raid so i'm not worrried about that.
doh... should have read the next thread...
Just one question then, can i install windows from sata3 without having to install any sort of drivers during the initial "blue screen" setup. IOW is it native? I think it is but gotta be sure. This is my first MSI board.

Yep. Sure can at least as long as you have XP SP1 or later. Just beware that you must enable SATA3/4 DMA (which is mysteriously off by default) and if you disable SATA1/2 the BIOS it will mysteriously reverse your boot order if you also have IDE drives. The solution to the latter is to save your settings then go back into the BIOS a second time to change the boot order to what you want.
BTW newegg.com and others sell dual port IDE SATA controllers for around $20.

I don't know how I missed this thread before. This is freakin' brilliant. I had this in my openbox autostart file to remap Caps_Lock to Ctrl. It was working, then just stopped with some upgrade the other day:
    xmodmap -e "remove lock = Caps_Lock" &
    xmodmap -e "add control = Caps_Lock" &
    eval `cat $HOME/.fehbg` &
    numlockx &
    lxpanel &
Instead of using sleep, I simply rearranged the order. It works now:
    xmodmap -e "remove lock = Caps_Lock" &
    eval `cat $HOME/.fehbg` &
    numlockx &
    lxpanel &
    xmodmap -e "add control = Caps_Lock" &
I added [SOLVED] to the title.

  • Will normal 3.0gb sata drives work? Do drive trays come with empty system?

The drive uses a new snap-in tray. I hope all 4 bays come with the tray and that normal 3.5 inch drives will work. Otherwise Apple has locked us into a proprietary Apple-only hard drive purchase.
    MacBook Pro 17   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I can't be 110% sure till my Mac Pro arrives, but I doubt very much you would be able to shoehorn in a PATA drive into the trays.
I would imagine that the hard drive trays and slots are using a SATA backplane design. This would allow for the drives to be put in the trays, then slipped into the drawers with no power or data cables needed. This of course means the connectors must line up correctly. Even if the trays had enough physical room for a PATA drive + adapter, it is high unlikely that the adapter will present the SATA power and data connectors in the correct location. In fact, all the adapters I have seen have the data connector oriented 90 degrees from how it should be, and I believe most adapters use the older molex pin style power connectors and not the SATA power connectors.
So my guess is No, it won't work... But thats not to say you can't find a place within the case to stick a PATA drive, maybe the second optical bay, if your not using it.

  • K8N Neo3 got SATA locks or not?

  • PT880----is the AGP/PCI lock working???

I ran across some interesting results looking in Aida32 at my V-link thruput under motherboard.
It was showing a 77 mghtz clock----and my thruput bandwidth was way higher than the mode 4 setting max of 1066.  Makes sense----why not---but shouldn't it be locked to 66.6 too??
It appears that overclocking also overclocks the V-Link clock and bandwidth.
Now I know that technically V-Link is NB-SB connections speeds-----and may not have anything to do with the PCI/AGP bus.
But I have had some folks tell me that NB-SB connections are directly entwined with the PCI/AGP bus.
And-----VIA is claiming that the SB hosts the RAID controller now----and it doesn't use the AGP/PCI bus in the classic way.
So----I guess what we need to see is evidence that the PCI/AGP bus is actually running at 66.6----even when overclocked.
Anybody know software that will tell us that----In Aida somewhere??
Thoughts anyone??  Am I mixing apples with oranges??

johnrr6 => The value are you reading is the frequency of communication bus between NB & SB(not the PCI freq.), on my Intel board is the same when i push the FSB highter. And it's normal and the PCI Bus still locked .
The good test for PCI Fix Working for me, is my sat tuner card and my SCSI card because when i increased frequency of PCI bus => theses cards become crazy (CRC errors, SCSI Bus reset randomly on my SCSI card & many lockup, heavy graphical corruption  on my sat tuner card) if the frequency of PCI Bus isn't near of 33Mhz.
Thanks----excellent explanation----so I was basically comparing apples to oranges------differnt buses entirely.
Same clock chip for me: ICS 952911BF-----there were some other numbers on it----do you need those??
Different subject---but along the same lines------am starting to see a cold boot problem at anything above 225 FSB
Computer will initially boot fine----run stable----no problems----then when I go to Start>>>>>>shutdown----and do a normal shutdown.....it shuts down fine....
But after a normal shutdown, it will not reboot for several tries----then----all of a sudden it will reboot fine on one of the tries.
If I pull the power cord and let it sit for a minute-----it will usually fix the problem and boot fine.

  • Audit Management- get the locking work at task level

    Hi All,
I am working in Audit management and we have a requirement to get the locking for an audit work at low level i.e the task only will be locked if some person is working on that not the whole audit.
Ideally we would like the record locking to happen at the lowest level i.e. the action level.
At the moment it is happening higher up, which is causing us to lock each other out, and only one person seems to be able to work on it at a time. This is a major problem if we wanted to roll it out to a lot of other people to use.
Also, if it is possible it would be able to allow all users to upload documents and save them to a task, but not to be able to allow them to change the details within the task, e.g. description, dates etc.
    Thanks in advance.
    Tripti

    Hi,
I dont fully understand your business requirement. However if you are trying control create, change of audit componentes, my inputs as below
You can define and assign a status profile with auth keys to control who can edit any audit component (AUO,AUP,QUN etc)and who cannot. I also suggest yout use Auth group to provide change access to  fields in Audit components. These user group and auth key can be assigned to roles.
Some ABAP support is required to validate auth group and auth keys when the user logs in.
    Please revert with your feedback.

  • Will a SATA Drive work in my PM G5?

I want to add a second HD to my G5 Power Mac Dual 2.3..
The User's Guide says to install a Serial ATA drive. I see a 400 gig Seagate SATA Hard drive on sale at Best Buy.. Is SATA the same as an ATA?
    Will it work?
    Thanks

Yes, they are a problem, but if you have access to a PC with a floppy drive and SATA you can fix the SSC problem. I have two older 500GB Seagate drives in my G5 and they are fine. It worried me when I first put them in and they didn't work, but once I fixed them it was cool. I had 400GB Seagates in the before that and they never had a problem.

  • SATA Locks on 3 & 4 ??!!

I have read many posts about this and the prevailing belief is that SATA 1 & 2 is not locked but 3 & 4 are. WHen I set my FSB at anythjing marginally above 200, I can't boot with the drives in 3 & 4 but I can boot up to FSB 235 om SATA 1&2, which is likely where my memory craps out.
Any authoritative source to quote about this or anyone else with this happening?
Also if anyone knows what the PCI lock Auto detect feature does in the hidden BIOS it would be nice to know.   It is either enabled or disabled!

It's the two sata ports left for the cpu and over agp slot that is the nvidia ones and
don't use the marvell chip .Theese two will run with higher fsb .
NF3 has agp/pci lock , the sata controllers are not connected to the pci bus ,but chipset integrated.
The hidden PCI clock Auto detect is to disable clock signal
to unused pci slots , this cause less interference and emi at the board level.
Its recomended to have at auto .
When new pci board is inserted system data is updated and the slot gets pci
clock signal . It has nothing to do with "pci lock" .

  • Locked Work Status doesn't work

    Hi
    This is a new case.
I have original work status like this. I show MAN only in this example
    Unlock    MAN=unlock
    Submitted MAN=owner
    Approved  MAN=locked
Then I add a new work status line as the intial state
    Start     MAN=locked
    Unlock    MAN=unlock
    Submitted MAN=owner
    Approved  MAN=locked
The purpose of the Start work status is to prevent the user submit something at the initial state.
But the Start work status doesn't lock anything, user is freely to submit data on this work state.
    My analysis,
I changed the current work status from Start to Unlock and switch it back to Start and the lock does its job.
    Anybody has the same issue?

Edited by: Halomoan Zhou on Aug 26, 2008 11:50 AM

It is logical that it works only after you upgrade to unlocked and downgrade again. The workstatus mechanism makes use of a table called tblFINANCElock (or what name your application has). In the beginning there are no records in this table which indicates that the data is unlocked. Once you update the status for the first time a record is generated with a status. From now on the system can link the records to the work status setting that you have defined and see that status "start" should lock the data. I think this functioality works as it is intended, and the only workaround for you is to lock and unlock the data before the users start entering data for that period.

  • Internal SATA not working

I got my Mac Mini (2012 base model) a couple of weeks ago and have since upgraded it by replacing the internal hard disk with a Samsung 840 Pro SSD. The upgrade went by without any issues.
However, today when I booted my computer I was greeted by the dreaded "no system disk found" symbol.
I removed the SSD and successfully booted the computer using a USB 3 drive bay. The SSD works fine; however, *any* drive placed in the internal drive bay (including the original 500GB HD) simply is not recognised by the system.
I've had a look round but all connectors seem to be attached securely.
Is there a chance I've damaged the internal SATA cable somehow, or could there be some deeper problem?
    Any answers much appreciated!

Unless anyone else comes up with any other ideas, I think that's definitely the cause of the issue. Thanks for the very helpful replies!
This is a little annoying as I was using the 128GB SSD as my main drive. It's not too much of a chore to boot from the disk in the external drive bay, but for the sake of neatness I would have preferred to keep the drive internal. Oh well, I'll have to see about getting a new SATA cable and see if that fixes the problem.

  • Eyedropper in hue&sat stopped working

Hope someone can help me . I have cs6 in a mac ox. It has always worked well, no changes have been recently made nor new software has been recently installed. Yesterday the eydropper of the hue sat that I use a lot to correct selective color areas such as to clean skin, has stopped working. When i select a color from the drop menu and then pick the eydropper to fine tuning the color i need to correct on the photo, as soon as i click , the hue and saturation menu disappear. No color has been selected. None of the 3 eyedroppers work, the result is always the same. Hue and sat works on the other functions. It might be I have made same changes by mistake but...it looks to me i haven t since the setting appears to be the same on another machine.
Any how if someone has a clue....thank you sooo much.

  • [SOLVED] SATA not working on Macbook Pro 7.1, (kernel bug 15923)

I ran into this bug while trying to install Arch as a single-os install on my new  13'' Macbook Pro 7.1:
      https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15923
It appears there is a problem with the current kernel and the MCP89 chipset so SATA is not recognized. There is a patch out but it still leaves ahci disabled and therefore NCQ causing slow performing harddisks.
I am wondering what to do. I've never done any kernel patching.
    - use an SSD instead of  a harddisk because of the lack of NCQ?
    - and somehow create a net install with a patched current kernel (and  how)?
    - or wait for the patch to reach the next version of the Arch install image (How long would that take)?
    - perform the install on my other notebook? Would that interfere with EFI partition already on it?
    questions questions...

    any suggestions?
I know very little about kernel and booting stuff, but this is how I made booting work from memory, in case it helps someone:
    - I installed using the archboot cd, using the whole harddisk and chose a MBR partition table (not GPT)
    - booted from the archboot cd once more but only did the 'prepare harddisk' part where I only chose the mount points, and exited the menu to shell
    - edited /tmp/install/etc/mkinitcpio.conf  (on the mounted harddisk) as  described above
    - I followed the instructions here http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel_Panics for chrooting:
    mount -t proc none /tmp/install/proc
    mount -t sysfs none /tmp/install/sys
    mount --bind /dev /tmp/install/dev
    chroot /tmp/install
    mkinitcpio -g /boot/kernel26.img
    exit
    sync
    reboot
I also chose ext4 for all my partitions. So possibly with a different filesystem the according kernelmodule  must be used. I tried the same procedure with a OCZ Vertex 2 ssd by the way but that one fails to boot with errors that are very similar to what's in this bug description.
Some other Macbook Pro 7.1 related things not mentioned in the wiki:
    - Sound:
worked after putting this in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf:
    options snd_hda_intel model=mbp55
and blacklisting OSS related modules in /etc/rc.conf:
    MODULES=(!snd_pcm_oss !snd_mixer_oss !snd_seq_oss pcspkr hid_apple libphy tg3 snd-hwdep snd-page-alloc snd-pcm snd-timer snd snd-hda-codec snd-hda-intel soundcore)
    - Backlight and keyboard leds:
install nvidia-bl (  mbp-nvidia-blg doesn't seem to work) from the AUR and follow the instructions in the install messages. Manually adjusting is now possible. For example:
    # echo 22000 > /sys/class/backlight/nvidia_backlight/brightness
    # echo 44000 > /sys/class/backlight/nvidia_backlight/brightness
    # echo 50 > /sys/class/leds/smc::kbd_backlight/brightness
    # echo 255 > /sys/class/leds/smc::kbd_backlight/brightness
I couldn't get the 'pommed' package to work, which is supposed to handle all the media keys. With 'xev' I verified that the keys were active without needing any mapping using  'xmodmap'. But since  they weren't bound to any particular action  I cobbled together a few scripts. They're crude so maybe someone with some actual bash skills can clean these up.
to allow non-root write access  to the  backlight and keyboard led devices I put this in in /etc/rc.local:
    chmod go+w /sys/class/backlight/nvidia_backlight/brightness
    chmod go+w /sys/class/leds/smc::kbd_backlight/brightness
In my desktopenvironment I bound the corresponding media keys to these scripts with 'up', 'down' or 'mute'  as arguments
    mbp_keyboard_led.sh:
