SATA Locks on 3 & 4 ??!!

I have read many posts about this and the prevailing belief is that SATA 1 & 2 is not locked but 3 & 4 are. WHen I set my FSB at anythjing marginally above 200, I can't boot with the drives in 3 & 4 but I can boot up to FSB 235 om SATA 1&2, which is likely where my memory craps out.
Any authoritative source to quote about this or anyone else with this happening?
Also if anyone knows what the PCI lock Auto detect feature does in the hidden BIOS it would be nice to know.   It is either enabled or disabled!

It's the two sata ports left for the cpu and over agp slot that is the nvidia ones and
don't use the marvell chip .Theese two will run with higher fsb .
NF3 has agp/pci lock , the sata controllers are not connected to the pci bus ,but chipset integrated.
The hidden PCI clock Auto detect is to disable clock signal
to unused pci slots , this cause less interference and emi at the board level.
Its recomended to have at auto .
When new pci board is inserted system data is updated and the slot gets pci
clock signal . It has nothing to do with "pci lock" .

  • PCI and SATA locks on neo4 Ultra Board

Where in the BIOS do I set the locks for the PCI bus and the SATA ports? And which SATA ports are locked?

Quote from: MMAN on 15-February-05, 15:43:38
1,2,3,AND 4 ARE ALL ON THE SAME CONTROLLER. 5AND 6 ARE ON THE SILICON IMAGE CONTROLLER.
With the Neo2, only two are part of the chip, the other two require an external interface chip (note not an external controller). It's still a matter of debate if it's the 2 sata which use the interface chip, or those which don't, which are locked. Either way it's ports 3 and 4 which are locked on the Neo2.
I expected the same with the Neo4, but found using 3 and 4 caused disk corruption when the FSB was increased, and shifting to  1 and 2 solved it.

  • K8N Neo3 got SATA locks or not?

Currently my HT freq is 3x, 300HTT x 8 = 2.4GHz. The PCI is locked and fine but how about SATA? becoz iam going to buy a SATA as an additional storage... can someone tell me truth?

yeah btu has a few other issues..with USB devices most...
yes SATA has pci lock.. 280-290HT no problem. at 183 devisor. CPU Sempron 3k+ work flawess 8.5x290 ht 3x(870 - higher than maximum mobo rated (800)) at 183 Mem devisor at Command Rate 1. was last config.
Tested on (Hitachi SATA 2 alone), Seagate 7200.7 SATA, Seagate 7200.9SATA2) Also with RAID Config with 6 HDDs. 1.5TB in RAIDs. diferent configs. old and new PCB mobo version. no problem.

  • Sata lock working?

Just bought a Neo2 Platinum and haven't booted yet. I plan to do some major oc'ing but when i read this i didn't have a good feeling.
    http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&number=3&artpage=890&articID=228
It says you can't oc to far with a HD connected to sata1 or sata2.
Is this still a problem? Can i just connect to sata3 and install windows from there? Not going to use raid so i'm not worrried about that.
doh... should have read the next thread...
Just one question then, can i install windows from sata3 without having to install any sort of drivers during the initial "blue screen" setup. IOW is it native? I think it is but gotta be sure. This is my first MSI board.

Yep. Sure can at least as long as you have XP SP1 or later. Just beware that you must enable SATA3/4 DMA (which is mysteriously off by default) and if you disable SATA1/2 the BIOS it will mysteriously reverse your boot order if you also have IDE drives. The solution to the latter is to save your settings then go back into the BIOS a second time to change the boot order to what you want.
BTW newegg.com and others sell dual port IDE SATA controllers for around $20.

  • SATA frequency locked?

What SATA ports are frequency locked on the K8N SLI Platinum? are all? just wondering since I will soon run with overclock and SATA drives.

All four nvidia chipset integrated is okay on NF4 as they don't use the bridge function from chipset as NF3 used to the external marvell PHY .
On NF4 all four use the NF4 chipsets PHY .
It's the marvell phy on NF3 that doesn't lock . It scales with HTT .
Ah, that explains why some boards do not have all Sata locked. Thank you for the info.

  • [845 Series] SATA and overclocking

When i install an SATA drive it works fine until i over clock my processor. When i do the motherboard stops reconizing the hard drive. Anyone heard of anything like this before?

Assaf, is locking PCI bus will lock SATA bus too?
This is one of my concern too to upgrade my hdd to SATA. Typically, I overclock to FSB 250 and no one can confirm me if SATA lock is there in my board. My friend have Tyan board with 875 chipset and don't have sata lock, and some other good branded board out there don't have it too.

  • "A Disk Read Error Has Occured" past 239 FSB?

The title says it all.  I'm runnin an Neo Platinum 2 and when booting up overclocked past 239 FSB I get "A Disk Read Error Has Occured" and it asks me to reboot.  Is this as simple as my SATA being overclocked too far?  I was under the impression this board had an SATA lock, but I could be wrong.  Any suggestions on getting past this?  Or have I reached my peak?

  • Nokia N95 8 Gigs "The Phone that got forgotten"

    Dear Nokia Support,
After I have bought this phone, I was not as please with the price and over all service that I have received from Nokia. I didn't care that it was expensive, but the service... Lets me begin where I have bought this phone for over 24,500 baht (Central World Power Buy, Bangkok, Thailand) [new copper color, N95 8 gigs]. I've bought the phone for the look, services, GPS system, but I am sorry to say that I didn't get any of that.
Lets start from the back; the GPS system. It takes so long to get the sat. lock, not even counting the time to calculated route, I was confirm with the Nokia Customer care that it will be resolve when I upgrade the firmware to 20 something. Unfortunately, when I have upgraded my phone, the phone act very weird and GPS function take even longer than it was before; even with the aids of GPRS where it should have taken only a few mins if not less. It would taken over 5. (this function become obsolete for me, as it is not helping me in anyway)
Secondly, as it was claim on the website of Nokia that Nokia have the best Care service. It was not for me, at first it was ok, as I was in the shop to get my phone firmware update, i got premium services and being taken care off right way. The reason that I was in the shop the first time was because I was using the Windows Vista at home, Nokia Care software was not support it (talk about up to date??) The second time however was different (MBK, Bangkok, Thailand) I didn't show my phone like the first time, I simply told them that my phone need fixing. My N95 screen went blank all of the sudden, I could make call normally but I could not see anything on the screen. One of the customer rep. told me that it would take 3 hours to fix the phone. So I was very please that I was being taken care off. Before I am going further, I would like to add that I have only use this phone for little over 3 months, I have never drop the phone or expose to any wet condition, and I have always keep the phone in the leather pouch that I bought for it. Now, back to the story. One of other rep, came over and told me that she could not find me on the system and I would need my recipt to get my phone service... (wait.. I bought this phone to 3 months, yet already have service here once.. and I still need a recipt??? I was very **bleep** at that point as the way they are saying that I would not get my phone services for I have not have my recipt... eventually she went to the back and finally saw me on the system. At that point she gave me a different answer than the rep. that he was handle me before, she said this phone need to be send to the center and it will take over 2 weeks for it to be fix. After argue for a while, she said that she will need to ask the tech. and she got back to me and say that she will have the tech. try to do something to the phone (I guess replacing some hardware) for 3 hours and she will either get back to me or I have to come back in 3 hours. After 3 hours has passed, I came back to the Nokia Care Shop and ask for the status of my phone, and found that they were waiting to talk to me about the phone. She said the phone have some water stain inside, and it will not be handle by Nokia as it is void the service agreement (well, my phone have not been anywhere near water or drop anywhere, the only reason this happend is only maybe from the my sweat.) and it is going to cost me over 2,200 baht to fix the phone as water mark void the service agreement.... well my phone was void because of normal use.. and it has only been 3 month. I guess Nokia is not for me, as I can't even sweat when using the phone. and I am not talking about a lot of sweat either, because my office is always in the air conditional Building. It was not as bad if she have called me faster to lets me know this other than letting me hang around for 3 hours and ask for the status. Now I have to wait 2 weeks. This is what I got from the best of service care in thailand. Furthermore, I know I could have just walk to the other end of the mall and get my phone for maybe half the price and possibly in less than an hour. Maybe I was stupid....
That was it, maybe it was my mistakes to even pick this phone from the begining, it wasn't cheap, changing it to a dollar is over 700 dollars phone. I was left with no choice, the phone is in parts in their hand. In order to fix my phone I will have to pay for the repair... or else I would just lost that 24,500 baht that I have just invested on the phone for merely 3 monthes. I will mark that Nokia is not for me and I will never buy anymore of Nokia Product. Expensive yet not user friendly. As soon as I got my phone back from the service, I am just going to sell it.
    Soravis,
    very disatified customer of Nokia

    Check these:
    (1) Phone software version - v20 and up have better GPS handling than earlier versions, if you have earlier than that then update.
    (2) Maps application version - if you have v1.2, update to v2.0 (this version will be inbuilt if your phone can update to software version 30 anyway) - this version is much improved.
    (3) This model has its GPS receiver positioned beneath the keypad, rather unusually, so make sure you have the slide open when using GPS.

  • 5800 GPS issues

    Hello,
I have bought my Nokia 5800 about a month ago, and since then I have used "Maps" quite extensively.
Sometime last week I found out that GPS does not work anymore, as if it cannot process the signal.
It shows that GPS is available but does nothing (positioning does not work).
I have upgraded my "Maps" software just today, but it still does not work, either indoors nor outdoors.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

aGPS will give you a sat lock fairly quickly. Using only integrated GPS could take hours and then only lock on 2-3 sats. I think it is because the integrated GPS antenna is exceptionally weak. I have seen the same complaint is other forums, including the GPS forums. The only solution I have seen so far is to buy and attach somethng called a reradiating antenna. However, I don't see that being of much help except for use while driving.
If I have helped you with your problem in some way, please take a little time and hit the kudos button in my post. Without your feedback, I don't know if I am being helpful or should just be put out to pasture.

  • N95 map problem

    Can anyone please help me?
Whwn I got my N95 the uk maps were pre loaded on the memory card and all was working fine, I was able to get a satalite fix and it would show my location on the map.
I then wanted to download more maps and downlaoded nokia maps from smart2go. Since then i dont seem to have any maps??? I downloaded the nokia map loader to my PC and connected my phone via data transfer mode but it says 'no mass storage device detected' and closes.
Any Ideas and suggestions would be appreciated, Thanks.

I have a similar problem as n95boy above - I had been using maps fine and never had any problems with my N95. Then recently I upgraded the firmware (to 12.0.0.13). When I switched the N95 back on the maps were gone which didn't surprise me much.
So I formatted my memory card to ensure things were cleaned up, then opened Maps (and got a sat lock) to ensure directories etc were set up. Then I tried using Maploader to load maps and it said it loaded them. But when starting Maps on the phone - nothing! I can see the memory card has had a fair bit of data loaded to the hidden directories due to the reduction in available Mb. Tried turning the phone off/on and starting Maps again just in case - the phone gets a GPS lock - but no maps display!
    Any ideas?

  • PT880 with 2.4A (no not that A, the other :-D)

ok, i'm wanting to kno if this is a good idea
PT880 (i've red review so far as much, this thing looks like it kicks ass)
    and a 2.4A prescott (533 bus).
my plan, take this 2.4A all the freakin way... 3.4 preferrably (stock vCore, safe OC)
problems i would like to kno about:
is the PCI bus locked? i've read that the SATA takes a hit from OCing, and i will have this thing from a 133FSB, to preferrably a maybe a 185x18=3330 or so.
this is quite a bit if the PCI (SATA???) isn't locked
i plan on using my 120 and one of my 80s (thru a PATA-SATA converter board) on the SATA.  leaving the IDE for DVDburner, DVDrom, and other 80 gig, (maybe another 52x burner cuz DVDburner burns CDs at 40x. hey, they r 20 bucks...)
is there any other, general... problems with this board?
i know about the prescott, and bios upgrade thingy, i'm not really worried about it, because i have access to northwoods to upgrade (flash), if anything gives me problems
ANY other problems? seems like a SHWEET board, but i was also looking at a ABIT  PT880 board, and man did it suck, nobody has one that is stable.
thank you for all your info, and btw, all the puters we sell at the shop, are all MSI :-D MSI for goodpeople, and like biostars for rude people and cops :-D
    j/k j/k j/k cops r nice people

yes :D thats why i considered this board, very good performancewise (almost catching 875), but not too much speedwise overclocking, yet plenty of options, PERFECT for maxed out prescott 133mhz CPU... thank you
BUUUUUUUUT...  very good question... is SATA locked, or not, why is it that these SATAs get knackered when overclocking, AND does it only happen >200 FSB, i don't really plan on ever getting to 200FSB, because that would leave me at around 3.6ghz, which would probably be my max... i would have to do some interesting cooling modifications to get that high, (not that this chip couldn't take it heh heh heh heh) but 3.6ghz is more of an overclock than i can imagine getting, seeins how i'd end up spending about 200-250 clams on this thing, including some more than sufficient PC3200 (with tight timings). 3.4ghz is kickass for 250 bucks.
is this SATA a problem with ANY board? or just this PT880? i am running the promise SATA controller on my K7N2DeltaILSR right now, (using PATA-SATA adapters) but i am running stock... so i wouldn't notice any instabilities... (this MSI couldn't handle the duron heh heh heh heh)
shuttle AN35 Owns... but no SATA to test my theory :(
an experienced SATA board OCer perhaps able to answer question?
    thank you in advance...
EDIT: pg5555: InYourOpinion, which? Soltek, Gigabyte, or MSI?  i know the Abit is junk...

  • (Noobie OCer) FSB down throttled despite manual settings?

I had a modest 2.4ghz OC going (10x240 166 divider=RAM @ 200mhz) and Prime95 passed about 12 hours, temps around 47c under full load. So far so good, or so I thought. After I was satisfied with Prime I checked CPU-Z for volt usage and here's where it gets weird... it turns out the FSB/HTT was throttled back to the default 200mhz, so I was actually underclocked (10x multiplier). Im not sure when it happened as I was away from the computer most of the time while Prime was testing. All I know is CPU-Z reported a 240mhz FSB when I first started Prime, which somehow turned into 200mhz somewhere during that span. When I rebooted into BIOS to check what was going everything was the sameas I started! HTT/FSB @ 240 x10, 166 Divider etc.
Ive had all automatic settings in Cell Menu turned off since the day I got the computer up and running. Everything is adjusted manually. AGP and SATA locked properly. Nothing has crashed or locked up, it seems stable enough. Anyone have a guess as to what the heck caused this?

    1. System Specs which I thought followed forum policy and had enough information are afaik now exactly as per forum policy as stated here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=64858.0 . Please let know if I've missed anything.
    2. I read the sticky post and there's, no reference to this problem I could see. Sorry if I should have replied in that thread, however my fuzzy logic moved me to post originally in the Overclocking forum because I wanted to overclock and it's late...
    3. I flashed the BIOS specifically because I had a Venice core and dual channel wouldn't work. Yes, I set optimized defaults after flashing.
If I've boobed by creating a new thread at this late hour, please delete it and I'll add a post to the 9.1 BIOS sticky thread.

Dunno yet i think its all works same, i think i go with either PowerStrip or Asus SmartDoctor.
AFAIK 400W psu i have is enough for everything in single cpu pc.
Btw can someone explain why OC CPU corrupts HDD?
"Btw can someone explain why OC CPU corrupts HDD?"
That is low end mainboard not designed for OC. Mainboard probably don't have Sata lock, and you when increase CPU HTT, Sata interface freq. is increase respective and can cause HDD corruption and possible further HDD damages.
That can be avoided if you OC your CPU by multiplier instead CPU HTT. (For that you need a CPU which multiplier is unlocked in both ways, etc: like FX-62... or 5k+ Black Edition )
The simples tip, if you wanna OC you should get board with OC abilities.

  • MSI K8T NEO2-F rev 2.00 (MS 7094) , few questions plz

    Hi,
first of all, i apologize for my english, it isnt my natural language.
Few days ago i have bought this mainboard, (my A7N8X-E dlx rev 2.0 have crashed after some years of loyal services) with a AMD64 3700+ pre clock at 260*11 stable on a DFI.
As i have a 7800GS AGP recently bought, i search a socket 939/AGP mainboard and only found this one in france.
I know those kind of "cheap" MB arent really designed for o/c, but i was wondering about few options at least, as the desynchronization of pci clock/AGP clock.
So, when i try to up the FSB, with HT to 4x (800) and RAM to 166, the AGP clock and the PCI clock still up.
The problem come at 215 FSB, the SATA drive i have isn't properly recognized by the MB, i think the story of the pci clock is involved.
I search trought this forum how to fix that.
A post talk about CPUID with the pll ICS 950405 and update and register the value 3F in hexa at he offset 09.
Obviously, i try it, rslting in a freeze of the computer.
I also try the core center, wich result in a blue screen of the pc at the launch of the application.
Well, as i'm kind of "persistant", i translate some german pages (thx google) to search about some beta bios (mod) but don't found anything regular with the 7094 (all beta i found were designed for the rev 1.0 of the board so...).
Still in this board, someone say he was able to flash the rev 2.0 with a bios designed for the rev 1.0, but as no more info were given on the steps to do it i prefer not to give a try.
    So here are my questions:
1-) Is there some beta bios or modded ones for the K8T NEO2-F rev 2.00 which enable some "o/c" functions as the vcore, the agp/pci ratio?
2-) In case the 1-) 's answer is no, is there some tweaking application which allow to bypass those restrictions?
3-) About monitoring of the fans, as speedfan  dont recognize the mobo, do you some appz which allow this?
    Other information
    i have the bios 3.6
    Video : 7800 GS AGP
    Cooling : Blue orb II
    HDD : 320 Go SATA 16 mo
    RAM : 2*512 PC3200

Thank you by advance for your incoming answers :D

i am still searching some issue

    Via the app CpuCool (which know the PLL ICS 950410), i obtain those value in hexa : $07 $F6 $67 $F5 $7F $7F $10 $01 $CC $7F $93 $8C $7E $0F $18 $00
Turning around some forums (even some russians forum, and no, i dont know russian but he, need take info where the info is) the $7F used in offset 09 (so the 1àth position) should be the PCI lock
    7F(h) = 127 (dec)
    3F (h)=63(dec)
but changing this value (via clockgen under ICS 950405 which reports the same string of hexa) make pc freeze.
I also with the help of bosskiller check bios hidden features of the phoenix AWARD 6.00PG with the bin 3.0-3.6 of MSI for the board.
Nothing seems to have tray with the AGP lock / SATA lock / PCI lock (its why i keep searching around the windows way via PLL edtion)
Maybe some of you, used to manipulate PLL and/or near of VIA/MSI/Manufacturer of electronic component would share some knowledge around.
    Thx !
