SATA Raid 0 and Overclocking Issues. Help!

I'm building out a machine that doesn't seem to want to overclock in the slightest bit.  I think my Serial ATA RAID 0 array seems to be the problem with OC'ing.  Each time I change the CPU FSB settings, when I boot up, it tries to detect my array.  Then it reboots after it fails.
Does anyone know what's going on?  Someone mentioned PCI Bus settings to me...???
On Anandtech they OC'd this chip to 2.6 Ghz (290x9) with an 8.3%+ in voltage.  I can't even get to 220.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
======================
System Setup:
Athlon 64 3000+ Socket 939
K8N Neo2 Platinum
2 Hitatchi 80 gig SATA HD's
Leadtek Winfast 6600 GT (AGP)
Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu Heatsink
Seasonic Super Tornado 400W PS

Ok, I switched it to SATA 3/4 and then I couldn't boot.  I kept getting some error which would cause it to boot again.  It happened right after it detected the array successfully.  The warning message happened so fast the first couple times I didn't even notice it.  It would flash some sort of blue screen like error (only it was a black screen) and then reboot itself.
Frustrated, I decided to start from scratch again.  I wiped out the discs and re-created the RAID 0 Array and put my WinXP CD back in.  Now while setting up WinXP I hang at the "Setup is starting Windows" screen.
It won't go anywhere from that.  It happens after I copy over the RAID Driver and Controller from the Floppy.  It copies more files after that and then hangs...
I also reset the CMOS with the jumper settings, un-did and re-did my SATA connections, even unplugged the little MB battery... :(
Any suggestions? This is so frustrating.
TIA.

  • Neo2 BIOS 3.3 Disables VIA SATA Raid AND Promise IDE3 RESOLVED

I recently corrputed my VIA SATA Raid installation of Windows by overclocking my FSB.  I have since read that you can't do this, and I definitely learned my lesson.
But in the process of attempting recovery, I upgraded my BIOS from 1.8 to 3.3.  (I know, didn't really keep up on that  =)
Now I have a strange problem.  I can't have both the Promise controller ENABLED as well as the VIA SATA enabled.  During boot, if the Promise controller is Enabled and has an IDE HDD plugged into it (important!) which was created by this Promise controller a few months ago, the VIA SATA section of BIOS boot does not show up.  It will not even show the text where it is looking for attached drives.  Herein lies the problem.
Here are a few scenarios.  If I unplug all drives from the Promise IDE connector, but leave it enabled, it will proceed to the VIA section of BIOS boot right after the Realtek initialization.  It will also show the VIA section of the BIOS boot if I disable the Promise in the Integrated Devices section of the BIOS.
But, if I leave a single drive connected to the Promise IDE connector, and have them both enabled in BIOS (VIA "On Board" is ENABLED and Promise is set to RAID) then the only boot options I see are the Promise section, where it will correctly identify the IDE drive connected to it (remember, it was made a drive by that very same controller chip a few months back) and then proceed to the Realtek initialization.  After that, there is no VIA section at all.
Interestingly, if you hit DEL to go into setup anytime during the scenario where there is no VIA init section, the VIA SATA drives do not show up on the Boot Sequence at all.  It is like it is not there at all, which I suspected since it wasn't showing up during BIOS boot.
SO.  This leaves me with the unfortunate scenario of not being able to use one or the other.  The only thing I can think of is that I updated my BIOS revision.  Please, is someone able to duplicate this, or is there a known workaround?  I would hate to lose half of the functionality of the mboard as far as additional controllers goes.
I will add my config below just in case that helps:
    K8T Neo 2
    AMD 3500+
    2 x Kingston 3500 HyperX 512
    Antec NeoPower 480w
2 x 36GB Raptors SATA (Drives I am attempting to run on VIA for boot)
2 x IDE drives (Maxtor 250GB and WD 160GB) on the Promise IDE 3 channel (sometimes anyway  =)
    2 x CD ROM on IDE 1
2 x IDE drives (WD 60GB and WD 120GB) on IDE 2 (I leave these unplugged during windows install and T/S'ing this problem)
    ATI Radeon X800XTPE
I hope that is all you would need to know about the box.
    Thanks for your ideas.

I trslly would suggest first though to do a Bios reset and then re-examine the problems if any and let's see if we can track and sort them out.
The first thing I found odd is that you claimed to have updated the Bios from 1.8 and there is no version 1.8 for the Neo2's. Their Bios range starts at 3.0 and that is the lowest number you should have been at.
Second let's take a look at your Bios settings. Typically when you flash a Bios you have to go back and reset the bios again to what is needed for your rig. Otherwise the default settings may not allow you to run your system at all properly.
I appreciate your looking at this with me Tiresmoke.  You must be right on the previous BIOS version.  It is my original Neo that I am thinking of for 1.8.  Now that you mention that, I don't know what the previous BIOS version is, but I am now going to assume it was the original.
Tracking through it though has been strange.  Another change I noticed is that my RAM would no longer run at DDR400.  It was stuck at DDR333 no matter what I did.  I had to move the Kingston 3500 that I had from 1/2 to 1/3 to get it to work.  Something must have changed in the BIOS update to make that happen, as it was running fine before that, and differences in operation at that level have nothing to do with whether I corrupted my RAID based windows install.
The boot order is as follows:
    1)  Promise Controller (Press CTRL + F)
    2)  Realtek LAN Boot  (Press SHIFT + F10)
    >
    3)  VIA RAID Controller.
It is #3 that will not show up if there is a drive attached to the Promise controller.  This has got me completely stumped.  Is there a direction we can go with T/S'ing this?
    Thx.

  • SATA Raid K8N nforce3 BSOD HELP!

    Hey.
I have spend 20+ hours trying to get my K8N Neo2 to work with SATA RAID 0, but no matter what I do I still get the BSOD on every boot.  My setup:
    MSI K8N Neo2
    AMD64 3500 939
    2xWD SATA Raptor 36GB 10000RPM on SATA 3&4
    2x512MB PC3200 DDR400 Samsung ram
    AOpen 300W PSU
Now I have tried to exchange ram, powersupply, and even the motherboard (tried diffferent brand same shitty chipset) so it's either the CPU or the nvidia raid drivers that are totally buggy!  I have seen other threads describing similar problems, and I have followed all theirs suggestions aka this one
Neo2 Plat Raid 0; windows driver
still without success...  This should work out of the box any suggestions???  Maybe  it will work without raid, but I am not convinced
    Thanks!

Yes, I did.  I tried with the supplied floppy from MSI and with the newest taken from the nforce v. 5.10 on floppy too.   I thought about installing without raid then installing the nforce drivers.  install new harddisks setup in raid and then copy the windows partion using ghost to the raid disks...  But all these workarounds shouldn't be necessary.
I have also tried installing a modded bios from syar with raid rom v.4.66 still same result. K8N Neo and Neo2 Bios Collection. *Updated official 1.5 bios for 7030 Neo1*
I appreciate your help.  It's driving me nuts.

  • Confused about SATA RAID and SATA DVD

I'm planning to build a system based on the P965 Platinum board and I'm considering implementing a RAID 0 array.  However, I have read of many problems with RAID and SATA DVD writers.  Are most problems just due to BIOS problems or are there more inherent problems?  Are people successfully running this board with a RAID array and SATA DVD?  Can you boot from the SATA DVD drive?
If I have a pair of drives in a RAID array, can I add further hard drives that will not be in a RAID array?  I won't trust RAID for all my data and I don't want to use mirroring.
I'm confused and I can't seem to find any definitive answers on this.
    Thanks

Thanks Maesus.  Will the drive from an AHCI machine only work in another machine set up with AHCI?
Teresa, yes but not always, this AHCI is driver bound. And because this AHCI is driver bound, it makes it hard to change from IDE to AHCI for a IDE driver installed OS, as the OS doesn't have AHCI driver installed. So when you change to AHCI setting in the BIOS, the OS refuse to load further. AHCI is driver bound, and it is also controller/chipset bound. If you installed an OS with AHCI settings enabled in an AMD system, you may not run that in an AHCI Intel system. Vice versa.
Quote from: Teresa on 20-May-07, 19:51:36
I ask this because there's a thread here that gives instructions on how to turn on AHCI after Win XP has been installed.  That tends to suggest that AHCI makes a difference to an operating system install.
This is only because the OS installer doesn't have AHCI driver built-in. If you slip-streamed your OS installer with AHCI drivers, your OS installation will go smoothly.

Or is it a case that the disk's data can still be read on another machine without AHCI but it can't be used to run Win XP?  I just need to know that I can pull my data hard disk out of my system and access it on another older machine that doesn't have ACHI.
Yes, the disk's data still can be read anywhere else. Just that it cannot be used to boot up to WinXP, if that WinXP doesn't have AHCI driver installed.

Hopefully one day soon I'll reach a critical threshold of knowledge and actually start ordering the parts for my build.
    Teresa
Let's make it simple. Treat IDE, AHCI and RAID-0 as different HDD drivers. WinXP has IDE driver built-in. Vista should have all drivers built-in. IDE and AHCI data structure is the same. However, RAID-0 data structure stored in the HDD is different and is controller-bound.
For AHCI mode installed HDD, you can read in IDE mode without single issue.
For IDE mode installed HDD, you can also read in AHCI mode without issue, provided AHCI drivers are installed upfront.
For RAID-0 installed HDD, you cannot read in IDE or AHCI mode, and you may not be able to read in other different controller/chipset systems even though you set them as RAID-0 exactly.

  • SATA RAID and K92A Platinum

    OK Guy’s
I need your assistance here.  I just purchased a MSI K92A Platinum motherboard and having the darnest time setting up RAID 0 (or any RAID period).   Before I go any further this is my setup.
    SATA 1    Western Digital WD2500JS 250GB SATA
    SATA 2   Western Digital WD2500JS 250GB SATA
    SATA 3   LITE-ON 20X DVD SATA MODEL LH-20A1S
    SATA 4   Western Digital WD2500JS 250GB SATA
    SATA 5
    SATA 6
    Floppy drive installed
    Memory: Kingston Hyper 2GB 1066 (x2)
    Processor: AMD 6400+ (3.2)
    Video: Ge Force 8800 GTX
In the basic (CMOS) screen I see all my drives.  When I move to the advance screen and select RAID. All the drives including my DVD disappear from the basic (CMOS) screen.  In the RAID utility, I see all three hard drives (minus the DVD drive).  I created my RAID 0 with two of the drives and left the last drive free for future use.  The problem arises when I reboot and try to use my DVD drive with Windows VISTA.  After the initial boot from the Windows CD, I followed the on screen instruction by selecting the install tab.  It would prompt me for my license number and move to the next screen.  After that it would return with the error unable to find DVD/CDROM (no further installation possible).  Just remember it had booted off the CD in the first place.  Not sure what is the problem.  Unfortunately I can’t install WINDOWS on a RAID drive until I figure out why when I select RAID that my DVD is not seen correctly after booting .
All things being equal, I have no problem installing WINDOWS without defining a RAID device on this motherboard.  All the drives are seen including my DVD.    A little history I just came from using an ASUS MSN-SLI Deluxe motherboard and I did not have any of these problems. At this point is seems ASUS had the easiest RAID utility.    Final note, hardware is good and tested.   Any response would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    Richard

No, you can use as many as you would like. It's just that RAID 0 with three drives is not possible on the Promise controller (red ports), as it has only two ports. Therefore you will need to use the SB600 controller, which is somewhat picky about SATA RAID drivers...
Anyway, the Promise controller is already disabled. Set your SB600 controller to RAID in your BIOS, then enter the FastBuild utility using CTRL + F when prompted. Build the array to your likings and save the settings, then boot from your Vista DVD. If you're lucky the drivers from the MSI CD (for Vista) will work. Otherwise you will have to start trying SB600 SATA RAID drivers from other manufacturers, those from DFI are known to work quite well.

  • 975X Platinum PowerUp 2*SATA/RAID and 1*IDE CDROM configuration help

I have latest official BIOS version 7.3
I’m trying to setting up the bios to handle 2 SATA harddisk in RADI 0+1. Furthermore I have IDE CDROM connected to the IDE1.
I have no problem setting up the 2 SATA harddisk as RAID 0+1 and it works perfect.
Unfortunately I don’t know how to setup the bios to make the IDE CDROM drive visible in windows.
    Please help?
(I have tried to enable the JMicron, but then I can’t boot, because the mainboard loses the RAID controller. I have read that this has been a problem with BIOS version 7.2 and 7.3)

  • Find and Replace Issue Help Requested.

Hi all. I've been digging around for a couple of days and
can't seem to figure this one out. For starters, I have already
looked at the Regular Expression syntax and tried the MS word
clean-up option, but no luck. We have about 1,500 pages of content.
They are in DNN, so the pages are created dynamically.
Unfortunately, the page content was written in Word and then dumped
in DNN. We are trying to clean up the pages. We are grabbing the
content from Dot Net Nuke and putting it into Dreamweaver 8.0.2.
Then we are manually cleaning out things like:
    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns =
    "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
    and
    <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"
    align=left>
We are using the Find and Replace funtion in Dreamweaver to
clean out these commands, but I know from the documentation, there
is an easier way to clean these pages.
Bottom Line: Since the pages are dynamically built, I know I
have to grab the page content and put it in Dreamweaver manually
and then put it back in DNN, but I am trying to find a way (using
Regular Expressions or something) to look for all the little
variances of MSO, <?XML, etc. in a straight shot. I would like
to find a way to use a wild card to look for all tags that have MSO
or Microsoft or ?XML in them and then replace them with a null
value. From what I can tell, the Find would have to use a wildcard
because the advanced find features don't carry what I am looking
for. Something like Find \<?xml * [<-wildcard] to \> to
grab the entire tag. The Find tag command doesn't work because the
tags I need aren't listed. Also, because the content is dynamic, I
can't do a Fins and Replace against the entire site for these
commands, but it would be nice to "Find" all of these items with a
single pass since the "Replace" value is always null.
The wildcard syntax and multiple Find instances are the main
questions. The wildcards seem to be character or space specific.
Sorry for the long explanation - I just don't want to waste
anyone's time typing responses to things I've already tried to do.
Thanks in advance for any help. This is my first time back in
the forums in about 4 years.

Glad that it did the trick. Just to help you understand what
    I did,
there are two main sections, as follows:
    <\?xml[^>]+>
    and
    <[^>]+(?=class=Mso)[^>]+>
They are separated by a vertical pipe (|), so they simply act
    as
    alternatives.
The first one searches for <?xml followed by anything
    except a closing
bracket until it reaches the first closing bracket.
The second one is more complex. It begins with this:
    <[^>]+
This simply looks for an opening bracket followed by anything
    other than
a closing bracket. What makes it more intelligent is the next
    bit:
    (?=class=Mso)
This does a forward search for "class=Mso". It's then
    followed by this
    again:
    [^>]+>
That finds anything except a closing bracket followed by a
    closing bracket.
The bit that you need to experiment with is (?=...). It's
    technically
called a "forward lookaround". The effect is that the second
    half of the
    regex finds <....class=Mso....>.

  • Multiple Crashes and Printer Issues - Help!

I've been very disappointed in Snow Leopard. On my iMac it is freezing up constantly. I NEVER have to reboot that iMac, and in less than 48 hours since I've installed it, I've had to reboot 5 times . It looks like iPhoto of all things is the program that crashes it - can't really tell. The whole screen freezes, including the doc and all menu bar options. Nothing is clickable, but the mouse still works - but can't click or right click anything. Have to turn off and then back on again to fix it.
On my MacBook Pro 17", I have the latest Final Cut Studio installed, and I can't run Final Cut Pro at all!! I need to edit a video tonight, and it crashes every single time I try to do anything in the video - 5 crashes in a row and still counting.
Finally, none of my HP printers work now - can't print using the same paper options I had before to print pictures. Rosetta has been installed on both machines.
Is there any help to fix these?!?! I'm seriously considering putting Leopard back on all my machines.

Your warranty is for one year, so Best Buy should repair it under the warranty assuming there is something that needs repairing.
You may have a software incompatibility problem at work. You have been experiencing kernel panics so a first start would be to look at a panic log to see what it tells us. We can try diagnosing everything until the problem is tracked down or you can go the extreme route which is to backup your data, erase the drive, and reinstall OS X.
For the former visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics. Also seeOS X- How to log a kernel panic. Then post the panic log here so we can see what it tells us.
I would also suggest you try booting into Safe Mode and see if your computer's problems cease. If they don't then create a new user account. Log out of your account and log into the new account. Do the problems cease?

    i got a powerbook g4 867mhz laptop..
and i find tat my laptop is running slow
i try to update the OS on apple site..none of them work
also i dont have the restore disc lost it somewhere when i move.
so in this case wat i can do to restore the whole laptop ?
and wat OS i can install on my laptop? help please

OS X 10.5 is Leopard, not Tiger. 10.4 is Tiger, 10.3 is Panther, 10.2 is Jaguar. If you have an 867MHz 15" Powerbook, it came with Jaguar (10.2.3) preinstalled, and you can use any later (10.3.x, 10.4.x, or 10.5.x) retail installer disc on it. A grey installer disc that came with any other Mac model won't work; the retail discs are black. Also black are the Upgrade discs (they say "Upgrade" somewhere on their labels). Those require that the previous major OS version be installed, or they won't run. A 10.5 Leopard Upgrade installer requires that 10.4 Tiger is already present on the drive where you're trying to install Leopard. If it isn't, no dice.
If your friend is running Leopard on his machine, it's a violation of his license for him to let you install it on yours too. So it's just as well the installation doesn't work. You'll need to buy your own operating system.
Before you do, read the System Requirements for whichever version you want to buy, and make sure your Powerbook meets them. Note that in all cases, the RAM requirement is a bare minimum; performance will be substantially better with more than the required amount of RAM. If your hard drive is the standard 40GB drive for that model, be aware that you should maintain a minimum of 5-8GB of free space on it at all times after Panther or Tiger is installed, or 10-12GB if you install Leopard.

  • SaveAs and postSave issue, help!

The postSave event is called although saveAs down!
Sometimes when you download a form to fill out, when save it with SaveAs and choose "overwrite existing file" sometimes (randomly) fails, the error message are: "The file can be read only or another user may be open ...", finally NOT save the file, it nevertheless invokes the event postSave!
I just want to invoke postSave event code in case that was saved application form and present it does not matter if it successfully saved or not, the method is invoked postSave
How can I be sure the form is saved? ... I simply need to execute my code  ONLY when the form has been successfully saved, is there any way to get the result of the SaveAs method?
    Thx!

    Hi
Probably you are right and IE thongs who hold "in use" in question form (which propisie failure to save), but unfortunately this does not solve my problem.
It does not really worry me too much not to save the file itself, what worries me is that the event is invoked when postSave NOT BEEN SAVED.
If the postSave event is not invoked would have no problem, since the user would see the error message and might try to save it again, under another name, but the problem is that invoking the event as if everything had gone well.
What should be the behavior of the mechanism to saveAs and associated events if an unexpected error occurs as in this case?
I see no coherent or logical the current behavior of mechanism
I can not tell customers "Gentlemen this is the fault of IE" ... nor can I say "when they download the PDF, do not open the file directly, keep it in a diferent folder and then open it ...". Expected (at least for me) was that the event postSave be invoked only when the PDF is saved correctly, regardless of the causes of failure that prevents saving.
It is very hard to work with the Adobe PDF / Designer / LC platform... to do simple tasks, develop small applications/pdf forms over controlled environments, everything is fine, but when you need to integrate the platform into complex processes, with a variety of clients / environments (XP, Vista, W7, Reader and Acrobat 8,9, IE 7,8) arise multitude of "small" problems in which one developer many times (as in this case) can not provide a solution, it is really frustrating.
The only thing I can do right now is not to use the event postSave and consider a new mechanism to manage my PDF forms, not sure yet how I will do this.
Thanks anyway, and excuse my basic level of English.

  • SATA RAID conflics with POMISE T3 RAID Bios

I've read quite a few of the RAID setup issues concerning the "Extra" RAID settings under "integrated peripherals" for the K9A2 Platinum. My problem seems to be a bit unique. I can't get both the SATA RAID and the Promise "Fast Track" to work together. If I enable the Extra RAID Controllers the Fastrack Bios does not recognize my SATA RAID.
This simply means that for some reason the motherboard SATA RAID conflicts or disables the PROMISE RAID Bios and vice versa. So I have not been able to activate my eSATA ports or use anything connected to the SATA5-6 ports without going into the CMOS and setting SATA DEVICES to IDE and then turning on the EXTRA Raid Controller under "Integrated Peripherals" in the CMOS. Unless I'm wrong. I am almost sure that this scenario is right.
The second issue is that I cannot get my ram to go in DUAL CHANNEL  mode. But I will post that issue another time.
    thx

With Vista Ultimate SP1 on my machine the USB Flasher Tool kept on crashing when the BIOS was at v 1.2 on the KA92 mainboard.
The DOS window came up fine but it appeared that every susequent module that was brought up for detecting the motherboard caught some kind of conlfict and terminated causing Vista to summon the program terminated message box. Eventually the dos prompt would state that it could not detect the motherboard and close. All in red text. This happened only when I flashed the BIOS with v1.2. I wanted to go back to 1.3 just to verify that the BIOS version was the cause and the only reason I got back to 1.3 or 1.4 easily was becaus it was backed up by the tool so all I had to do was rename the backup.bin file(s). Again everything went as expected with the USB Flasher Tool until I loaded the v1.2 BIOS. It could not even detect the mainboard.
The only reason I didn't need the tool anymore was that it backed up the versions of the bios for each time that I had flashed the bios previously.
