SATA (random and restart problems)
New to the forum so bear with me.
I have a wierd problem involving during boot up and the system sometimes hangs during NVIDIA Raid.... Detecting Array...
It seems that whenever I restart the machine from Windows that the screen turns black and nothing follows after that. Then when I push the restart button on the case, the machine would freeze at the SATA Raid point while booting. This also happens randomly when just turning the system on and sometimes before showing IDE devices it would hang there too. According to the D-Bracket the right side is green and the left side is red: Testing Base and Extended Memory. I have tried refreshing the power cycles by turning the PSU off and unplugging and sometimes that wouldn't help. I would appreciate any input.
System specs as follows:
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum w/ AMD Athlon64 3000+ (2115 MHz) standard VCore
BIOS version 1.9 US.
HTT 4x & FSB @ 235MHz w/ 200MHz RAM
2 Kingston HyperX 512MB 4000 modules in first and second slots @ 1.65V
BFG nVidia Geforce 6600GT OC AGP 8X
Soundblaster Audigy2 in the last PCI slot
Mad Dog SurePower 500W w/ Thermaltake Tsunami Dream (only mentioning this because of front panel wiring)
Maxtor SATA 250GB 16MB cache w/ Seagate 7200.x 80GB in RAID JBOD using SATA 1 & 2.
hi Omega215D,
welcome to the forum.
You need to be aware that sata 1/2 are not locked but linked to the htt bus speed this means that any oc above 230 is likely to give data corruption on any drives connected there & may be the reason for your detection issues.
See
SATA 1/2 vs. 3/4 4 a detailed explanation. Thids is a chipset Nvidia3 250/Ultra issue effecting all boards using theis chipset.
so suggest you either Limit OC to around 225, use sata 3/4 only or use a pci sata card.
luck

Hi CB, i'm very appreciating your effort to solve my problem
I tried your way to press OKR key when my laptop is Off.
What i got is, i go to my win10 logo. Not to bios one
And when i'm on my desktop, there's no other thing than my ordinary desktop.
FYI, before i get the win10 logo, i got the black screen with F2 to bios and F12 to select boot order. But i prefer not to press it.
Its just like the same with pressing power button to power on my laptop.
Any idea how to solve it CB ?
I'm familiar with laptop stuff. So maybe you can show me how i fix it myself.
Big thanks CB
Just a couple of questions to clear up my understanding of the situation - bear with me.
Before you installed Windows 10, did the power button respond normally and were you able to see your BIOS pages?
Also - when you installed / upgraded to Windows 10 was it a "clean install" or did you follow the upgrade path?
If you were able to operate the notebook with the power button prior to installing / upgrading to Windows 10 I would try booting from a "live DVD" for Linux (Mint / Ubuntu / Fedora) to see if it works in that situation. If it works as expected in Linux then we have a Windows OS issue to deal with.
If you performed a "clean install" of Windows 10 it may have wiped out the factory partition (hidden) on your hard drive and going back to factory settings may not be an option.
Cheers. -

Shut Down and Restart problems
My Powermac G5 has recently started having issues whilst restarting and shutting down. When asked to do so it quits all apps as usual then the finder quits (or at least the menu bar etc disappears) but before it gets to the blue screen it simply hangs and goes no further. The only way I can then get it to shut down is to hold the power button in for several seconds.
I have tried everything I can think of:
Repaired permissions,
Run daily weekly and monthly maintenance scripts,
I've even booted from the install DVD and run repair disk from within Disk Utility - no repairs were neccesary but when asked to restart whilst booted from the install DVD the same issue arose and the machine just froze.
Is there anything else I should try to fix this? How can I get my machine to restart / shut down?
Thanks.
Al.Thanks, I'll give it a go.... I've already tried the quitting of apps approach and that didn't help, but I haven't tried logging off first so I will see if that help.
On some occasions I've had trouble quitting apps as well, and can't force quit them either which hasn't helped, and it also sounds as though the fans are running a little more than they used to (but that could just be me being paranoid now that things aren't as they should be).
I'm beginning to think that this has only started happening since the update to 1.4.10, but I can't be sure.
I'll see how it goes today.
Thanks.

K9N Neo-F Freeze and restart problem. Help needed!
Hi there,
I recently bought a Mainboard (K9N Neo-F S/N: 601-7260-010K0605023133) that seems to shutdown every now and then. No blue screen... it just freezes for a while and then shuts down. My CPU temperature is very low, I've used a lot of coolingpaste and I have tried every possible way of mounting memorys... 1,2,4... and in different slots. I've run Memtest also. The BIOS-version is the newest according to the Liveupdate-function. The power supply should be enough but I have tested disconnecting everything else then one harddrive and the mobo... doesn't work.
Sometimes it happens with three hours between the occations and sometimes five minutes. Not related to anything special that is done on the computer.
Is this a problem that is common...? Related to hardware or bios...? I would be glad for any advice you could give.
Thanks in advance. Really need help... this drives me mad...
/ChristianI started Orthos and then left the computer alone. Went and watched a film, when I got back after 1 hour and 38 minutes or something like that the computer freezed. I will try leaving it on all night without touching a thing... kind of strange that it happens right when I sit down and move the mouse.
Thanks a lot for trying to help... it's appreciated.

Sata hardrive and dvd problems
hey,
i have a msi k8neo platinum sli with a 36graptor on sata1 and a 120g drive on sata2 and then a plextor 716advdr on sata3 port. i see my 36g raptor in (my computer) and my os is on it and its fine, but i don't see the 120g in my computer, but it's seen in the bios and in the device manager. my plextor dvd716 reads discs fine, but if you just try to drag and drop a file to burn or run any burning software it locks up and hangs. any help for a noob would be great.
thanks,
johnQuestions arising...do you have the cdvdwriter enabled to write in properties? Is the 120gig drive enabled in the current configuration in the hardware manager? Are they seen and enabled in the BIOS?

Stream 8 update frozen (and other problems)
Hello All,
I got a Stream 8 for my wife for Christmas, set it up for her and updated with windows update on Dec 15th 2014. After Christmas, the tablet seemed to be working for her, but then became really laggy...
Problem #1
Windows Update screen will not open, and when I try to access it from the control panel the window becomes frozen. I have left it on this screen plugged in over night, twice, hoping that it was simply a large update that would rectify itself if given enough time.
I was hoping to turn off automatic windows update to stall any automatic update while I attempted HP software updates
That Failed.
Problem #2
I attempted to Download the HP Stream 8 BIOS update after I went onto the HP site and downlaoded the HP install program. That also got stuck at 0% overnight.
Failed to downlaod anything, so I closed the program and restarted
Problem #3
Windows Store Fails to load - just keeps spinning
Problem #4
Sound is terrible - tinny and digitized on 50% volume. Speakers sound broken.
Any recomendations for attempting to fix the windows update issue?
I bought this Stream 8 tablet from the Windows Store , and it seemed to work for ~3 days... I want my wife to be able to use this as a home tablet and travel computer that has much greater functionality for work than my Nexus 7.
Thanks for any guidance!Hey @HawaiianHP ,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're experiencing issues with updating your Stream 8 tablet, using the Windows store, and sound quality.
Issues with Windows Update:
Troubleshoot problems with installing updates.
Issues with Windows App Store:
Reset and Register the Windows App Store.
Sound Issues:
No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 8).
Set the audio quality to a higher quality:
1. Right click the Speaker icon in the bottom right corner by your time.
2. Click Playback Devices.
3. Click Speakers.
4. Click properties.
5. Click the advanced tab on the Properties window.
6. Change the Default Format drop-down to the highest quality.
7. Apply the properties.
8. Click OK to close the properties window.
9. Click OK to close the Playback Devices.
10. Test.
BIOS download from HP:
Try an alternate browser like Chrome or FireFox. If you have already, clear any cache or cookies for the browser and try again.
Let me know if any of that helps.
Please click the "Kudos, Thumbs Up" at the bottom of this post if you want to say "Thanks" for helping!

I am using a iPhone 3GS Version 4.3.5. It restarts while voice communication. fine. After 5 to 7 mins it will make a restart randomly and after it restart. Can any help me please to fix this problem.........
try to press the sleep/wake button + home button at the same time and hold them until the apple logo appears. that should help.
-
Not sure if anyone else is experiencing the same issue of the screen freezing or suddenly enlarging. I'm having to shut down and restart as much as five or six times a day. This has been happening pretty regularly for the past week or more, but seems to be getting worse. Could it be the last software update?
Close all apps in Multi-Task Window.
1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
2. Swipe the app's windows upwards to close
3. The app will fly off the screen -
Many random abrupt restarts with ML and my Mac Pro
Any help would be appreciated with this...
Ive recently clean installed Mountain Lion with only a handful of 3rd party apps on my 2009(?) Mac Pro and seem to be getting about 3-6 random Kernal Panics and/or abrupt restarts a day. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for them as they all happen when doing differant tasks. Last time it happened I was only browsing in Safari with itunes playing in the background. iTunes started to skip like a scratched record 4 or 5 times then suddenly the computer shut down and restarted itself. Below is the report that I sent to Apple. Any idea whats causing the problem or suggestions on a fix? If more info is required Id be happy to post. Thanks!

Macbook Pro Randomly Shuts Down and Restarts
Hi There,
This issue appears to have occured for other people in different forms but there does not appear to have been a conclusive answer to the problem, so here's hoping someone here might be able to provide some further insight into the issue, and with some luck, a solution.
I have an early 2008 MacBook Pro running OS X 10.7.2 (plugged-in to power) that has started to randomly shut down and then restart itself (goes through all the start up screens; Apple logo etc.). It doesn't appear to be just a straight restart of the machine, but it shuts down, and then a couple of seconds later, reboots, as though it is two different actions...
The computer does this pretty randomly, and now quite often. It happens when applications are running, Safari for example, and when nothing is running and i just go to open Finder or use Spotlight.
I haven't had this issue in the past (some 3+ years of full time use now) and as far as i'm aware, nothing changed on the computer immediately prior to the issue occuring (no updates, installs etc.).
I've checked the systen log which, each time the issue occurs, returns the message 'Previous Shutdown Cause: -128'. I've sought reference as to what this refers to, but it would appear to be a mystery to the WWW.
I have tried the following solutions with no success:
- Proper restart and reboot of system;
- Repair permissions;
- Reset SMC;
- Reinstall OS X.
Any thoughts on what the problem is, what the '-128' refers to, or what more i can try to solve the issue?
Your help is much appreciated! Thanks.I know this is a really old thread, and everyone's probably already bought new computers now. However, I'm still using my 2010 MacBook Pro and have been experiencing this very frustrating issue. However, I think I just found a way to open a finder window that prevents the shut down. In Finder>Preferences>General, under "New Finder windows show", I had "All my files" selected (BAD?), which probably was the cause, because setting that to "Desktop" instead has prevented shut downs, for now. Just thought I should share this tip, in case anyone else suffers from this annoying issue. If anyone has a better tip or a real fix, please post a reply! There are still people, like myself, working on these older machines who would appreciate the info. THANKS!

Itunes randomly stop playing and restarts playing like a pause when playing music.
My itunes the latest version 11.1.3 stop playing music randomly and start playing it again. It almost like its buffering itself.
My hard drive is not full.
Already tried to repair disk etc.
I do not know what to do it all start its skipping when I upgraded to OSX Mavericks.
Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?Hi, have you found something work for you ?
Happens to me as well but not started in mavericks all started with Mountain Lion , a few weeks before he left mavericks , I thought the problme would be solved by updating , but he did not, it's very frustrating strange thing is that in my case not only iTunes is , if any player, have proven Vox and another which I forget the name .
I also feel the same when you play a song in quick look ( Finder) .
I am desperate this problem is with me for the last month and a half went to a apple store and tell me that my machine has nothing that can not help me, and tried everything , reset my machine with a clean install , restart PRAM , repair permissions hise disk hardware test , and nothing has changed.
When iTunes pause my machine freezes a moment and returns to normal when continuous playback , stops about 1s though sometimes hard to 5s .
We appreciate if you find solution , because I am going crazy . Since neither in apple have been able to help me .
My machine is a Macbook Pro late 2012. Mavericks , iTunes 11.1.3 did not correct my mistakes. Do not know what else to try . -
After upgrading, videos randomly stop and restart.
Since upgrading to iTunes 10 purchased videos of TV shows randomly stop and restart. I've had these videos for years and never had a problem, but now every time I watch an episode it sill get around 5 minutes in and spontaneously start the episode over. Anyone else having these problems?
Hi Fabrizio,
why do you want to reboot your server every sunday?????
If you reboot your SAP this often, you'll have performance problems every Monday. All
of your SAP internal Buffers must be filled again after an reboot. If your DB is on the
same Host, also your DB Buffer is empty.
If this is an productive System, i highly recommend you that you not reboot your SAP System this often....
(By side, thats the difference between an *nix and an Windows System.).
What is the reason for doing that?

Phone heats up, hangs and restarts due to problems with the media index.
A few times a week my phone heats up, hangs, and goes into a restart loop every few minutes, which drains the battery quickly. After some research in the diagnostics app I have come to the conclusion that it is the Media Storage app that hangs. I see spontaneous restarts in the android.process.media process every few seconds. A work-around is to go into settings, apps, all apps, media storage (Lagring av Media, in swedish, or android.process.media in android) and clear data. This immediately stops the problem, but then I usually need to reboot the phone manually once to get it to rescan all media again, since all that indexed data was lost.
I suspect that my sd card (SanDisk microSDXC Mobile Ultra 128GB (Class 10)), with 90GB of MP3 files has somehow related to do, or at least makes matters worse, although I haven't tried to go for a week without it. The media data is usually around 50MB, when I clear it, this quickly rebuilds, until next time...
The media storage index seems to be prone to corruption, and/or one or more processes reading or writing is corrupt.
This is a nuisance since if I don't catch it rebooting right away I can be without battery quickly.
So, even though the fix is easy now that I've found it, I would rather not have the problem at all. Worst of all, is when this happens when I'm in a call, or when someone tries to call or text me, but I don't notice, since the phone is hung. Also there is nothing wrong with the phone, this must be a software issue, where an error isn't handled correctly.
In the early days of researching this problem, I did a factory reset, which actually cleared up some other issues I'd had with bluetooth connection in the factory installed software (even though it was of the same version). After this I waited to install any apps, and just went with standard vanilla android and sony apps. Still the same problem occurred after a couple of days. So it isn't related to third party software either. I see lots of posts online which detail this workaround, some as old as a few years old, but none with a real solution.
Help please?I recieved a reply from Sony Xperia Care support. They suggested removing the SD-card to see if that helped. Fingers crossed I have now gone three days without acting up. The next time it does I'll try removing the sd card and see if I can break the record of seven days without a problem.
They claim that it can be a hardware fault with the SD-card (highly unlikely in my opinion). Or a corrupt file on the card. I have only used the phone operating system and the Sony PC Companion application to transfer files. None of them have warned me about corrupt files. Also, if I can go seven days without a problem, why not eight? It's not like it acts up every time I access a particular file. It's just random, and rarely when I'm doing anything that access files on the sd-card.
My guess is still that the media storage indexing is buggy. It's much more likely that the storage index is corrupt, than a file, for this behaviour to occur. Note that I work as a software test officer, with 25 years of IT experience, so I have a vague idea what I'm talking about.
