Sata win XP install woes

I have tried to install XP on the only drive inside the box which is a Maxtor SataI 80Gb HD connected to the VIA integrated controller on the MoBo, and it just won´t do it, thinking it was the drive, I tried it with a seagate and a WD Sata Drives with exactly the same result, I know it is a Sata on board thing not because of the mentioned but cause then, I installed XP in an ATA drive with no problems, thought it was XP, so I tried it with XPx64, same results on both mods, Sata and ATA.
I don´t know if it is a BIOS issue, guess it is cause I even changed MoBos, tried so with the Master2 FAR7 and another Master2 FAR, both yield exactly the same results, good no-problem installs on ATA drives and same point of failure with SATA drives.
Here is the Rig:
K8T800 Master2 FAR
2Gb Ram in two DDRs, 1Gb each, Micron reg ecc pc2700 C.L. 2.5
1 Maxtor 80Gb SATAI (or 1 80Gb Maxtor ATA, 1 40Gb ATA Seagate, 1 40gb ATA WD, always removing previous HD´s)
Tried with two different VCards: QuadroFX3000 and MSI NX6400AX
Bios on the Mobo is 1.0. Tried bios 1.+ but it kept screwing something up.
PSU is a Thermaltake 500+ single rail. (I can say there´s no problem there cause I tested it on a different setup with same load with no problems)
2 Opteron 244
1 CD on master for the ATA0
On the Bios settings, I enabled only the first device as CD and the second as Hardisk, on the order, I set the SATA drive on top (there´s always one more option even tho you have no other drives installed which reads: addon bootable device, I left this on second.
What happens:
I start the system and when it reaches the "press any key to boot the cd" I press it.
Windows XP install starts loading, then I press f6 and insert the floppy with the SATA drivers, then press S and select "SATA windows XP" from the list (topmost selection), it starts copying the files and then the system reboots and it just hangs there, apparently, it has loaded the files somewhere but it just won´t start anything...I never get to the screen where you choose the drive to format and install.
I could just avoid all this headache and get an IDE drive and install there, and just use the SATA drives as media/sotrage wise solution, but it just seems ridiculous to have a workstation board that can´t have SATA for its main start-up drive.
I have also tried installing on two SATA´s as raid0, and Raid1, with the same outcome: Zilch.  :(
Ant thoughts on the matter?.
oh!, just a P.S. note, can someone please tell me how to get the updated bios and drivers for the Master FAR and the FAR7?, cause I had to talk to a support guy and he said that the support page was messy and it was tricky to find the correct issued drivers for the systems...whatever that means.

Oh!...well that was useful and so well explained, following on the excell tradition of clear and great MSI support, thnx.

  • Wipe or Win repair install.

    Hello all,
I hame having some problems installing some programs, want to get all this bloat ware off my machine, etc......was told to do a win repair install and someone also said to do a wipe.....not sure what the diff is. Will any of these fix missing or damaged files in my sys32 folder.  I do not mind installing all of my programs again, but I rather not have to install drivers, etc.    As usual, not type of disk was sold with my g570, so I guess I would have to get win 7 from somewhere....do I use my key on the bottom of laptop to somewhere download a new copy?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Is there a step by step somewhere that I could follow.
    Thanks for your help!

This is what i posted before, just wanted more info before i do something to this laptop....besides this flash thing, it has been shutting down on its own several times a week, too much bloatware, the touchpad is the worst i have ever used.....other than these...not a bad laptop....
    Thanks again,

tried to re-register the file and this was the error - module mscms.dll was loaded but the entry point DllregisterServer was not found.......make sure that "mscmd.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file then try again
also did a sfcscannow and these where the errors....

  • Win 7 install

If I buy a new Satellite laptop with Win 8 installed will I be successful in wiping the drive and installing Win 7 in it's place?

    Hi,
I did that.  Actually, I have my C855 multi-booting, with Win8 (from a Win8 DVD installation), Win7, and Fedora.  I have the C855 BIOS set for legacy mode (not UEFI) and use a tool called Boot It NG (BING) to setup the partitions and for the multi-booting.
Make sure that you use Disk Creator first, to burn the recovery DVDs, though, before trying.
    Jim
P.S.  You could probably use BCD/BCD Edit to do the multi-booting also, I think.

  • HELP! Can't get WINXP or WIN ME installed on Neo2-FIS2R

    Dear all,
Last weekend I've been trying too many hours to get WINXP PRO (Dutch version) installed on my new Mobo. I just can’t get it installed.
Installation from CD is starting however after loading some drivers (and offering F6 to install extra scsi/raid drivers, F2 for recovery) screen goes black and in far upper left corner blinking cursor appears.
    Nothing happens anymore.
Tried the same with WIN ME (also dutch version). This one reboots just before I’ve to enter serial number (= screen were progress indicator is moving from 0-100%)
Does anybody please advise/help. If you need more info, please ask. Your help will highly been appreciated!

  • How to install AHCI driver during a Win XP install?

    Hello,
I want to dual-boot my 990FXA-GD65 board into Win XP 32bit and Win 7 64bit, but I want my SATA disks to use AHCI. I want to install XP first.
However this board doesn't seem to support a floppy drive so I can't load AHCI drivers with F6.
There are several guides on the web for doing this with Intel chipsets, but not for AMD.
Can anyone advise me how to do this with my board and its chipset?.
    Thank you.

Have you tried putting the files on a usb drive?
Using WinToFlash, I copied the slipstreamed XP install CD to a bootable USB key. However, I get exactly the same 'amd_sata.sys is corrupt' message while the install is loading drivers. I tried this with the BIOS SATA mode, first as AHCI, and then IDE, with the same result.

Not sure if this will work with xp, try it and let me know.
I haven't tried this, but reading the m$ download page carefully says to me that this is a tool to allow the install of W7 only from a USB key.
The reference to XP seems to me to be saying that you can run the tool on an XP machine, not that you can use the tool to install XP.
When I tried to download the Image API utility (I am running on an XP machine), I couldn't  get Genuine.exe to run, so I can't try it anyway.
So, where do I go from here, anyone?
Is it worth trying to use an AMD driver, instead of the MSI one?
Also, my BIOS is at v19.3 - should I change to 19.7?

  • Single Maxtor SATA won't install Windows 2k

    Hi everyone!
I have been messing with this for a few days now.  I'm in the process of upgrading my machine to a K8T NEO, A64 3000+, 1gb Hyper X PC4000, 9800XT vid, and Maxtor Diamondmax 120gb SATA.  The problem I am having is that I can not get Windows 2k to install on my machine.  It is getting about 1/2 way and crashing.  Even before it gets to that point it's really really slow after the first reboot during install.  I have followed the instructions in regards to setting up the single SATA HD and the first bios screen shows it there.  I have it connected to the (SER1) SATA connector which I believe uses the Promise controller.
During the initial install I hit F6 and then use the Promise 378 driver for w2k off of the driver floppy.  It installs the drivers then I format and everything is peachy.  It's after the reboot when it just runs like a chode and never finishes the install.
Do I need to disable the VIA controller and leave the PATA enabled?
To set it up to the VIA controller all I need to do is disable the PATA controller?  When I've tried in the past to set it up to the SATA1 port the raid bios won't see the HD on the first boot screen.
I am very desperate in finding a solution for this.  I want to run Final Fantasy 11 on this system!!  :-)
    Thanks so much guys!
    Half

This may or may not help but I just purchased 2 OEM Maxtor SATA Drives which I plan to install in a new system I'm building around the MSI K8T FIS2R.  I downloaded the CD-R ISO for MaxBlast 3 from Maxtor.  Here is an excerpt from the readme file included on the CD:
"      If you are installing drivers during a Windows NT4.x,Win 2K or XP
fresh Operating System install, you will need to copy the Serial ATA
and UDMA 100/133 driver files from the MaxBlast 3 CD to a clean formatted
          floppy first.
From the MaxBlast 3 CD choose the create Maxtor ATA/SATA PCI driver diskette option and follow the on screen prompts.
On new build NT,2K, and XP systems without floppy drives, it will be
necessary to temporarily connect a 3.5 floppy drive to install the Serial ATA
or UDMA 100/133 host drivers. This is because the Microsoft operating system
doesn't allow browsing to CD ROM drives during a new install.
On systems that have NT, 2K, or XP already installed. Add the Serial ATA or
UDMA 100/133 host, and driver to the system first before connecting your new
          hard drive to the system.
Serial ATA and UDMA 100/133 controllers report as a SCSI device in Windows:
During the Windows NT4.x,Win2K,or WinXP install you must specify additional
devices SCSI or RAID controllers, and choose other to install the driver
from the floppy when prompted by the operating system. "

  • Win 7 install freezes I975Xa-YDG/T7200

I have tried installing the Beta and RC versions, 32 and 64 bit, none of which will get beyond 1% "Expanding files" before the system locks up completely. Even simply booting from the DVD and doing absolutely nothing once the blue screen appears, will result in the system freezing after ~5 minutes.
I have disabled every option possible in BIOS, and swapped out nearly every piece of hardware possible, yet nothing has helped.
The system I am attempting to install to is a second PC. My primary system works perfectly.
The system in question: (it's an oddball, for sure)
    AOpen I975Xa-YDG Mobo (975X/ICH7) Socket M ATX (BIOS 1.10)
    Intel T7200 Core2Duo (Mobile CPU) EM64T 2.0GHz 667FSB 4MB
    2GB DDR2 667
    ATI HD 4650
    WD 640GB SATA
    LG SATA DVD-RW
XP installed and works fine, after installing all the extra drivers.
I have tried swapping the RAM into various DIMMs, as well as different sticks. No change.
I have swapped video cards with my main system (HD4670) with no luck.
The only item that had any effect, was swapping in a IDE DVD-RW, and that only allowed it get to 13% expanding files before locking up, one time. Repeated attempts resulted in the same 0-1% progress before having to do a hard reset. The IDE DVD-RW was the one used to burn the DVD's, as well as installing on the primary system.
Both the Beta and RC installed and work fine on my AMD 790GX/6000+ system, from the same DVD's that fail in the 2nd system. I have even reinstalled after having many failed attempts on the other system, just to rule a bad DVD. (4 bad DVD's would be extremely unlikely, yet none will work in the 2nd system)
I have been trying, to no avail, since the Beta became available, but it seems nothing will allow Win 7 to install on this rather unique system configuration. The only successful thing to occur, has been killing the original install of XP, and that reinstalled without issue.
    Truly stumped.
BTW, I ran the Win 7 "Upgrade advisor" on the system, and it returned no issues other than a minor driver issue for the Realtek HD audio. I have the same Realtek HD audio chipset on my AMD system. It works fine in Win 7.

I know that this board should work, but sometimes there is a moment in time where it hits you upside the head to say "Ok, enough is enough"  I have had issues with (as I have said in these forums before) with certain mainboards.  So I have stuck to the bigger manufacturers, Asus, Intel, Foxconn (they build for Dell and Intel and many others) and sometimes even BioStar.  I have never used AOpen products (although I know that contract themselves out too like Foxconn), and would have thrown the board out long ago on a situation like this.  Maybe it is time for that?  Unless you have a circuit testing setup, you may never understand why it isn't working.  The board I had troubles with didn't have any popped caps, burn marks, heat issues or any other problem that was viewable or testable.  But when you make, say 100 systems and 30 come back because of corrupt data issues, you have an BIG turnover issue.  If a smaller company like mine gets 5% back in warranties, it's a liablity.  I know this is a long winded reply but sometimes there isn't always a way to know why a board is bad.  If it takes 3 hours to figure it out, you can buy another one for the same labor costs.  My advice (after spending am hour on the boards and sites looking for a socket M motheboard is abandon board and processor.  Cheap combos are out there, I sell one for $150.  How much time have you spend reloading the os over and over, how much is your time and sanity worth?

hi thanks for help with this its Brawney    just a follow up  i easily upgraded my hp desktop machine with ssd. i used the data migration software that comes along with the samsung magician software with 840 evo 250 drive.
basically the instructions in samsungs ssd drive box show pictures in instructions that make you think you need to have a usb adaptor that attaches drive from outside  to do this on desktop. I didnt need this adaptor on my desktop.  What you do need is a sata 3 cable  to attach drive to motherboard when you open it up. Also inside my hp desktop there was a place to put my ssd that fit its size 2.5   but you need 2 screws to attach drive which the drive didnt come with.  you could probably just rig it in there with a small piece of electrical tape lol.   So all i did was back up my favorites from browser and files on my machine i thought were important just to be safe . Next i installed disc that came with samsung ssd with data migration software and samsung magician. Next i opened up case with everything turned off with power cord unplugged from case and attached drive to motherboard with sata 3 cable. next i turned machine back on . then in win 8.1 i right clicked start button and selected computer management then said yes to pop up then selected storage and then clicked on disk magementment to see if new ssd could be seen inside there. I believe i right clicked on area where ssd drive was to be and created new simple volume and said yes or next to all defaults that popped up. This made drive be seen.      i think another way to double check if drive can be seen is to open samsung magician real quick to see if it sees the new ssd. here is a good youtube video that is good for if you want to learn how to make drive be seen(partitioned/initialized) and if you still wanna use hard drive that came with hp as a second drive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMo8krAJd5Q      this video also talks about going into bios and switching boot order  so new ssd is first in boot order which is somethin you do after you do data migration.  Now that your ssd drive is seen just open up data migration software and hit start to move your operating system  and all data on it over to new ssd  .  after this finishes you need to turn machine off then turn it on and then hit f10 to get into bios on hp machine  watch you tube video if you need help you just need ssd first in boot order now so you boot to new ssd    Once this is done you can open samsung magician software and check drive performance and click sections to optimize new ssd to run best.. Thank for helping me to have confidence that i could do this.  I was gonna buy win 7 and do clean install but screw it i saved money i cloned os over and it runs quicker      In the magician software im getting 531 mb on sequential read and 495 on sequential write and i did not use rapid mode      its good        If anyone wants to ad anything to this if i missed anything please do to help others      Niccii helped me so i thought i would help also

  • G580 win 8 installed - I want to reinstall Win 7

    I have a g580 that came with win 8.
I have a Win 7 home premium 'upgrade' disk.  The upgrade is supposed to be xp or vista to Win 7  (Not 100% sure about that....I bought it for the XP upgrade to 7 but I think the disk was ok for Vista as well)
I tried to install it on the G580 with Win 8 and it didn't work.  The install failed (it was a while ago)
My question - Is there a way to do a clean install over the HD?  Can I format the HD and just throw in the Win 7 disk?
It didn't work when I tried to install it over 8.

    hi ChrisPbass,
That Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade Disc that you have is probably for a Windows Vista machines that wants to upgrade to Windows 7. If you got that upgrade disc from your OEM, there's an option to clean install Windows 7 into a blank drive.
What you need to do first is:
    1. Backup all of your files on the Windows 8 OS and create a a recovery media (just in case you decided to go back to Windows 8)
    2. Boot into the BIOS by pressing F2 after turning the computer ON, when you're in, go to the Boot tab and disable UEFI Boot then press F10 to save and exit BIOS.
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
    3. Insert your Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade Disc and choose Custom Advanced.
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
    3. To install Windows 7 on an MBR disk volume, you need to wipe out all the partitions until you get a single unallocated space, when you see all the partitions, choose Drive Options (Advanced) then delete all partitions. (systems that came pre-installed with Windows 8 has a GPT disk volume).
    4. Install Windows 7 on the single unallocated space,
    5. If you get an Error: "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files." Do the following:
    a. Press Shift +F10 to open command prompt
    b. type diskpart
    c. type list disk (this is usually disk 0 - this is the SATA HDD, it may vary if you have another device inserted)
    d. type select disk 0
    e. type clean
    f.  type create partition primary
    g: type active
    h. type format fs=ntfs quick
    i.  type assign
    j.  type exit (do this twice to close disk part and the command prompt)
If you succeed in installing Windows 7, you can get the drivers at http://support.lenovo.com
    Goodluck!

  • Black/Blank Screen with Boot Camp Win 7 Install on new 27" iMac

I'm having a problem getting Windows 7 on a new 27" iMac and am familiar with the Boot Camp Windows installation process. Here's what I've done...
    1. Run Boot Camp from OSX, partition the drive.
    2. Insert Win 7 cd, proceed with installation.
    3. Computer restarts and the 'preparing for initial setup' message displays with the Win 7 splash screen. When it switches to where it should be displaying the Win 7 desktop, the screen is black.
I can hear the Mac still running, but there's no display. It's like it's waiting for some type of user input for the intial Windows setup (haven't yet entered the key).
I've done a hard shutdown and restarted Windows with the exact same result. After reboot, I get the 'Windows was not shut down properly' message with the 3 safe mode options, where choosing either gets me the 'Windows cannot complete setup in safe mode'. And any key reboots it.
The Mac side still runs fine and holding the option key at start up gives the Mac/Win boot options.
I'm inclined to think that it's a video driver issue since the 27" is brand new. Maybe Apple used a new video card for the larger screen and haven't updated the Boot Camp drivers. I checked on ATI's site for an updated driver for the Radeon HD 4670 they say is in the new 27" model that's currently available. (not the quad core)
Is there any workaround for this? I was thinking of installing Vista instead, and upgrading to Win7 once installed, but if it's a driver thing, it would just be a long way to the same result and could have the same problem with Vista as well.
    Any ideas?

I think I figured out what is happening here with the video drivers on the new iMac's and Win7. I believe it's re-directing the video to the mini display-port output when you see the screen go blank. I installed my Win7 x64 with no issues but I had an external monitor hooked up at the time and while it was installing the O/S my iMac went black but everything moved over to my external screen. Once it finished installing then everything went back to normal after a reboot.
Not sure if that helps anyone but pretty sure that's what is going on. So if you have another monitor handy, get the mini display-port adaptor from Apple and connect your external screen before you install Win7. Cheers!
P.S. If you have one of the new iMac's and want to install the latest Radeon drivers (after you have installed Win7 on your iMac), try the following. Download and install the drivers from ATI/AMD directly. They'll try to install and fail (no worries) but now the driver/install files will be unzipped into an ATI folder on your main Windows hard drive.
Now go to this site: http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php and download the tool and use the Vista instructions listed on the main page of the URL above. You shouldn't need to download the MSXML 6.0 and I don't think you need to disable the UAC stuff like they suggest for Vista (I didn't) and it works fine. UAC is not nearly as intrusive on Win7 as it is in Vista so I think that's why it worked for me and pretty sure the MSXML 6.0 is already in Win7. Once the program has modified the mobile Radeon drivers then you can run "setup" from your ATI directory and the new drivers will finally install correctly including the Catalyst Control Center. Voila! I now have 9.10 drivers up and running on my new 27" iMac and working perfectly so far.

  • Neo4 Plat SLI using SATA Raid cannot install WinXP 32

I recently purchased the neo4 platinum and was quite amazed what all comes with the board. However, I have spent quite a while trying unsuccessfully to get winxp installed. I was previously using a pci rocketraid card to run my 2 maxtor drives as a stripped raid.
Before doing the final shutdown and swap, I went into the rocketraid and deleted the array. Swapped boards (raid card did not follow), plugged in the 2 maxtors into sata ports 1 and 2. Configured nvidia raid bios settings to enable raid on sata ports 1 and 2. Entered nvidia raid bios, and created a stripped raid array with the 2 maxtors. Boot to winxp install, f6 and installed both drivers on included nvidia diskette. When I get to the partition selection, I have nothing but 'Unknown disk' listed several times. If I try to access one of these 'partitions' by either deleting or selecting, the system crashes (blue screen).
So, I deleted the nvidia array, the reinstalled my rocketraid card, and created an array on it. Went through the same install sequence, and am able to see the array as a selectable drive, and am able to install winxp on it. So, I am a bit lost on where to go from here.. I tried searching both here and google and I didnt see anyone with this particular problem. Id really love to get this bad boy running (a good upgrade for me), but it seems I am destined not to.  Please, someone help!

Inside the nvraid rom bios make sure to clear disk data and set raid bootable .
gah, sorry, I should have put that in my original post (did those).
So, a bit of an update... after a bit more futzing around, I have tried multiple times on deleting, recreating (and clearing data) arrays, trying with and without setting to boot. After the 2nd or so array creation, my problem has slightly changed. Now, windows install does not recognize any hdd's present and wont continue.
Out of curiosity, I blasted the array from the nvidia bios, then went into main bios, disabled nvidia raid, and enabled sil raid. Hooked up the drives to sil raid, and created an array. Windows install see's the array, and is currently installing to it. Now, while this may function as a work aorund (if it completes) I think I read somewhere the nvidia raid is not on the pci bus, but the sil raid is (which is why I want to use the nvraid). So, aside from any input or suggestions about resolving the problem I am having, any input on the differences between the two raid setups?
edit- windows successfully installed on the sil raid array, but I still would like a fix for the nvraid

I haven't heard of any fix from Adobe but maybe this will hwlp.
I kept getting an error this morning when trying to install Windows updates on my PC. One of the updates was trying to update Visual C++ (vc_red) from a folder on the C drive which was locked. The folder had a very long name (2f4b86.....). I kept getting a popup box pointing to the folder but it would not install the update from there. I had to copy the folder to the C:\Users\Public Downloads folder to get it to install. I mention this because vc_red seems to be involved with the previous Acrobat XI installation issue I had.
I would try looking at your installed updated and see if you have either update installed.:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538242)
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538243)
Removing them may allow Acrobat XI to be installed.

  • WINE: Cannot install Internet Explorer 6 on 64-bit system

    Hi everyone
I'm running the 64-bit version of Arch Linux, with WINE 1.3.2 from [multilib] and winetricks installed.
When I try to install ie6 via winetricks (which I need for both work and a game I'm trying to install ), I get the following error message:
The Windows Update: Internet Explorer and Internet Tools cannot be installed on this computer. This product does not install on 64-bit platforms.
After closing this window (i.e. clicking OK), I get another error message, which informs me that "regsvr32.exe has encountered a serious error and needs to close."
So, what gives? WineHQ shows claims of people being able to install it on a 64-bit Linux system; namely, Ubuntu and openSUSE... no Arch results, and I don't want to post "Garbage" if I'm doing something wrong here.
If anyone would help me shed some light on this (and perhaps even fix it!) I'd be very grateful.
    Thanks in advance!

I know about wine-gecko. However, that's not it
edit: update to the problem: I've switched to bin32-wine-suse from AUR. Now I can install IE6, yay
    However, something's still bothering me.
bin32-wine-suse complains about every wineprefix made by "stock" (multilib) WINE being a 64-bit environment, and thus impossible to work with.
So the [multilib] WINE apparently makes a 64-bit Windows-like environment, whatever that would mean to them. I don't really think that's right, knowing how some apps - namely, IE6 and such - complain about this.
    Any ideas?
