Satechi Smart Pointer with Keynote 2.0

Allegedly, the Satechi Smart Pointer (http://www.amazon.com/Satechi-Bluetooth-Pointer-Presenter-Control/dp/B00A3WRM5G/ ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1385994304&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=satechi+smart +pointer) is supposed to work under iOS7 with Keynote 2.0 to control presentations, using the Accessibility/voiceover mode. I have not been able to get this to work, and am getting confusing feedback from the comments on the Amazon site, where there are people who claim that it does, and others that claim that it cannot. I have not been able to get a clear answer from Satechi, and in the meantime I cannot get it to function properly.
Has anyone succeeded in getting this (or any other!) bluetooth remote to work with the most recent Keynote, under iOS 7.0.4, on the iPad? If so, how?
Thanks!

I have the same pointer and it used to work but it stopped working with Keynote 2.0.
Take a look at http://www.satechi.net/index.php/bluetooth/bluetooth-remote/satechi-bluetooth-sm art-pointer
and scroll to the bottom of the page.  Looks like the ball is in Apple's court ...

  • Can I use a graphics tablet such as Wacom with Keynote?

I would like to be able to use my Graphics tablet with Keynote to write on my slides while teaching. I am able to use the pen tablet with Powerpoint, I just select pen for pointer and pen color. How do I do this in Keynote?
    Thanks for your help,

I don't think you can do that within Keynote itself. Is there anything useful in the Inkwell preferences? I have never used a tablet with a Mac before, but I think that Inkwell would have some kind of annotation feature.

  • Is two-sided printing possible with Keynote?

The power point slides for one of my classes opens in keynote so I have to print from there but my question is, is it possible to print on both sides when using keynote? When I go to print, and then the printing options I can see a two-sided printing option but for some reason I'm unable to click on it. I don't think its because of the printer I'm using because I've printed on both sides using Microsoft word with my printer before. I just can't seem to do it with keynote.
Should I just copy & paste to Pages to use two-sided printing?
    Message was edited by: AshesAshes

I just checked any I can select two sided printing with my printer in Keynote, so I don't know why you wouldn't be able to if you have a printer that is capable of it.
But instead of copy and paste, I would export it as a .pdf (Share>Export>pdf) and then you can try to print two sided in Preview and if that doesn't work, then add the .pdf files to Pages and print.

  • Smart builds in Keynote 6.0?

I opened presentations previously built with Keynote 5.3 in Keynote 6.0 to find that all my smart builds have disappeared!
The Action "Revolve" where you can have multiple objects revolve has disappeared.
I find it odd that Apple is removing features from a product - for the sake of interworking with the IOS versions.
This is a serious problem imho, there is no warning by Apple that there are some key keatures of Keynote 5.3 that are not longer supported.
I am using these animations quite often and they get a lot of praise from the audience, so I need to go back to Keynote 5.3 I guess.
It left me with a major problem of having to re-build my slides again in 5.3 from backup files because once you close Keynote 6.0 it saves the opened file in a new format which cannot be opened by 5.3 anymore.

    Hi,
In ecc 6.0, create rowline in the main area or where ever u want (say header or footer). This row itself contains the no. of columns u specified in that row, so u can place ur text element directly under the appropriate column.
Like this u can create 'n' no. of rowlines according to ur need.

  • Anyone try Smart Objects with Aperture; is this useful?

Here’s what I did, wondering if this is helpful. I exported a master (which produces the RAW file) to disk.
Open the image in Photoshop using the Aperture “Open with External Editor” command. Now use the Place Command and you can create a smart object with the RAW file. It initially opens Adobe Camera RAW so you can adjust as you wish. When done, you can save this SO in the version.
Go back into that file from Aperture, and if you wish to edit again with Photoshop, you have the option of double clicking on the SO to call up ACR, tweak and save.
So layers are not supported but Smart Objects are multiple versions of a PSD embedded in the original (if my understanding is correct).
Am I crazy or does this allow us to do RAW conversions with ACR but use the rest of Aperture?

    That's a neat variation. Here's mine:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1292903
    Summary:
    1) Export original to a hot folder which opens the file in ACR, convert.
    2) Apple-Tab back to Aperture, 'open in external editor'.
    3) Run an action that copies the image from the ACR conversion into the Aperture version and save. Action is included in the linked thread.
Combining the two approaches could work rather nicely.
Note - once an image has been opened using 'open in external editor' layers ARE supported. From this point on, 'open in external editor' passes the file directly to PS, without flattening. Just watch out for overwrites.

  • Does the Apple Remote work with Keynote '08 to make presentations with?

The subject pretty much asks the question, but I'll repeat it here again:
Does the Apple Remote work with Keynote '08 to make presentations with?

Although it does not provide the same abilities as a "professional" clicker it does do the job. For example your computer still has to be in front of you, or you need to be pointing at it. Steve Jobs does not use an Apple remote as his clicker, but as a easy solution, it does the job.

  • Smart Playlist with certain criteria not syncing

So this is an issue that has haunted me for months now. I thought it may be a problem with my iPhone 4 in particular, but now I have an iPhone 5s with the same issue.
So I have a couple of smart playlists on my iTunes. One of them in particular is for Recently Added Singles. When I add new music to my iTunes, if it is a single or a new individual track, I want these tracks to populate my smart playlist. When the album that the single appears on is finally released and I get it, I don't want these albums, including the tracks that were singles, to populate the recently added singles smart playlist as I instead add the entire album to a different playlist all together. The only way I could figure a way around these full albums populating my singles playlist was to add a disc number of '1' to all tracks in a full album, just leaving singles without a disc number and add a rule to my smart playlist that would only populate tracks with a disc number of less than 1. The playlist appears fine in iTunes, but the playlist is empty on my phone.
When I sync the playlist and you watch it adding tracks on the phone, you can see the tracks being added, but as soon as the sync is finished, the playlist is empty. Experimenting a little further, I changed the rule to populate the smart playlist with tracks with a disc number that is '1' only. iTunes populates and appears correctly, but when I sync the playlist, my phone it appears to ignore the rule completely and just abides by the other rules I have on the smart playlist, which are 'date added in the last 12 weeks' and 'media kind is music,' which includes, as you'd expect, all music added in the last 12 weeks, and not the intended, all music added in the last 12 weeks with a disc number of 1.
So does the iPhone ignore the disc number of tracks? I know that if disc numbers are used, the iPhone doesn't actually display or specifiy where one disc ends and the next begins, like it does on the new iTunes, but is this meta data not actually used by the iphone all together? Or does it handle it differently to iTunes?
It's not a major issue of course, it just bugs me because I sort my music quite particularly. The way I've been getting around it is by creating a smart playlist based on this smart playlist, naming one with 'iTunes,' and the one to sync to my phone with 'iPhone.'
I thought this just should be pointed out and reported so maybe it can be fixed in a update or something. It's quite a particular fault so maybe it hasn't come up before?
Anyways, all and help and advice welcome.

In another thread it was suggested to edit the Smart Playlist in iTunes for podcasts and uncheck Live Updating. This worked for me and my podcasts were again on my iPhone.

  • Smart Playlists with Implied Criteria

Discovered a cool feature in iTunes last night. The basic idea is that when you rate a track [1-5 stars], a "ghost" rating appears for the whole album that contains that track. You can then create a smart playlist which queries for that "implied criteria." So you can, for example, create a smart playlist that includes all music you have not yet heard AND that does not include any tracks that belong to any album that has another track that received a low rating.
Wrote a little blog post about this:
    http://birdhouse.org/blog/2014/02/03/how-to-create-itunes-smart-playlists-with-i mplied-criteria/

So I went through technical support because I had this exactly some problem.  Smart playlist shows up in iTunes on my iMAC, as well as via Apple TV (both via iCloud and Home Sharing options.)  It also fully populates those smart playlists.
For my pre-existing Smart Playlists (that only have criteria for the GROUPING field) show up, have songs, but are quite a few songs short.  I then created a brand new play list with brand new tracks... and its empty on iPhone 4S and iPAD2.  Apple TV and IMAC are fine.
So technical support provided me with this response:  For smart playlists to work on iOS devices, the songs must be downloaded to the device.
My feedback was this: So this is chicken and the egg.  You create the playlist to easily locate and download those songs to your device, but you cant because they have to be on your device before they will show in the playlist.
I suppose the only work around is to create the smart playlist w/ your filters.  THEN create a regular playlist and copy everything in the SMART Playlist into the regular playlist.
I have not used Apple products for very long... approaching 2 years.  I moved everything to Apple.  Computers, laptops, portable devices, etc... I have been VERY impressed.  HOWEVER, this makes the point of Smart Playlists completely manual when it comes to your iOS device.
I will for sure be launching a compliant to www.apple.com/feedback.

  • Smart Playlists with Date Criteria

It seems any smart playlist with a date criteria (ie: Date Added) will not show up on any device that access the iTunes Match Service. I have several smart playlists with a date criteria and they show up blank on my iphone and ipad. Yet, if I delete the date criteria, the playlist populates on the device. I tried creating a smart playlist with just the date criteria and then in a new smart playlist referencing the date criteria smart playlist and the new playlist will not upload to icloud because an icloud smart playlist can not reference another smart playlist

So I went through technical support because I had this exactly some problem.  Smart playlist shows up in iTunes on my iMAC, as well as via Apple TV (both via iCloud and Home Sharing options.)  It also fully populates those smart playlists.

  • Audio (and other) problems noted with Keynote version 4.0.1

Since installing Keynote 4 and the 4.0.1 update, I have noted the following situations and/or problems:
    1) When doing a "save-as" the filename is appended with the suffix ".key" but when I subsequently "save" this file, the suffix disappears. The file seems to open and operate OK nonetheless, but this puzzles and somewhat concerns me that someday Keynote may not recognize the file. This happens whenever I "save" a slideshow after I have made any changes to it.
    2) When playing back a "soundtrack," the audio "glitches" frequently at slide transitions: this occurs repeatedly on my G5 desktop system but not on my MacBook Pro-17. The "glitches" always seem to occur at the same places in the track - which, of course, is also at the same slide transitions. (This problem has spawned several similar questions and threads in this forum.)
    3) Related to #2 above, the "glitches" also interrupt or corrupt the "recording" of that soundtrack, so that the synchronization is off when the slideshow is played back.
    4) If I want to have an audio track play under a series of slides, the only way I have found to accomplish this is to create a separate slideshow with the audio track running as a "soundtrack" and "record" the Builds and Transitions in sync with the audio. If I want to incorporate several of these shows together, I can create a "master" slideshow and Hyperlink each segment to the next. HOWEVER...
    5) When I "record" a "soundtrack" and "synchronize" the Builds and Transitions within the slideshow, everything plays back properly in sync ONLY when the slideshow is played as a stand-alone presentation (i.e. a cold start from the desktop). If I initiate playback of the slideshow via a Hyperlink from another presentation, the soundtrack plays but NONE of the synchronization works at all.
    6) The only way I have found to have an audio track "fade-in" or "fade-out" is to use off-line editing software to record these fades prior to importing the tracks into Keynote. The "Start Audio" Build function is simply a hard "cut" in, and the end of the track is a hard "cut" out.
These problems are consistent and repeatable facts. Whether they are "bugs" in the software or "design shortcomings" is uncertain. Nonethtless ...
At the risk of offending the moderators of this forum, I feel compelled to comment that these problems render the audio operations of Keynote less than satisfactory and should be addressed as soon as possible with another update to this visually stunning but audio-challenged application.

Well Ron S, I re-confirmed why I prefer not to look to tech support for support.
It seems to me that support's main function is to deflect any critical comments and push the blame back to the user.
Frankly, I have better things to do with my time and money than try to help a multi-billion dollar enterprise learn about itself.
So, for the benefit of you and the nearly 400 who have followed this thread, I offer you my latest and probably last attempt to have Apple acknowledge in some small way that "Houston, we have a problem".
I expect this reply will result in this thread being yanked as well, since I'm expressing negative thoughts about Apple's product and wishing they would do better, which is a non-technical gasp of utter frustration and disappointment. Note that "product" is singular, defining Keynote. My other Apple products serve me loyally and superbly, which is why my huge disappointment with Keynote.
So here is my correspondence with Tech Support. I've removed names except mine.
I think it speaks for itself. They have notes from my conversations with them that I have current Apple computers, including a MacBookPro, not an old PowerBook, nevertheless, they have told me that the problem is mine because the fabulous hyper-performing Keynote software is choking my poor old machine (paraphrased muchly).:
    Hi (support),
That's disappointing news, especially since this test was done on 3 machines: an old G4 400, a 2.0G Dual G5 and an Intel core duo MacBookPro which yielded identical results.
It is not a hardware issue.
I do not accept a brush-off that it is my hardware that is causing Keynote to be problematic.
I will assume that Apple is not interested in addressing these issues in public and that Keynote is substandard software that is in need of re-authoring.
Sorry to be so blunt, but Apple has set this tone with Keynote, and used its considerable reputation as a leading a/v technology innovator to imply that Keynote will deliver the excellence we Mac users have come to expect.
I have been a loyal mac user since the SE series and have enjoyed success with the machines and software offered by Apple, and depend on them for my livelihood. I'm currently using FC Studio6 and know that Apple is capable of maintaining its high standards.
However, Keynote fails to do that, instead behaving like a product that was invented in a teenager's basement and is in beta. I realize that it's not designed as a FCP level product, but it fails at the basic tasks that you advertise it will complete.
A version 4 product should work as advertised. Keynote certainly does not.
I'm deeply saddened that Apple seems to have become an iPod entertainment company, interested mainly in profits from entertainment rather than serious useful technology.

    Hello Sir,
Unfortunately, this does look like it's mostly a case of some of the new Keynote features slowing down the performance on the PowerBook.
At this point, there isn't much else we can do in the way of troubleshooting.
If you are not satisfied with the performance on the PowerBook, using the previous version of Keynote is probably his best option at this point.
We will continue to research this issue, but at this point it's unlikely I'll be able to find additional suggestions for improving performance, as it looks like it is is reproducible and limited to older models.

    Hi (support),
Thanks for your recent followup calls. I'm directing a video shoot so am a bit preoccupied.
Here are the tests I mentioned.
These are as simple as it gets, and I think highlights the synchronization problem with Keynote.
Test 1 is straightforward, and demonstrates that a single unedited recorded audio track will maintain mouse click synchronization.
Test 2 is the same file, but with audio modifications applied to each slide in succession.
This demonstrates a dramatic synchronization slippage.
The visuals occur before the click (and audio) markers. Keynote seems to be create delay in audio at each "record and replace" point. This accumulates as the audio is revised in successive slides.
These tests demonstrate that there is a fundamental flaw in how Keynote handles audio in its most basic application.
This does not address the slim toolset available, such as lack of insert capability and other basic audio tools, which is a separate design issue, and I suppose subject to "request for enhancement" feedback.
I've reluctantly abandoned Keynote for my project work at present until these basic issues are addressed and it can be demonstrated that Keynote can successfully execute its feature set.

  • Compatible with Keynote for Mac?

Can files made with keynote be transferred back and forth between a Mac and edited on both?
    thanks.

As the other poster points out, Keynote for iPad lacks some of the Mac features.  But as to the features they do share, transfer back and forth is quite nice. Some users I know use the iPad to start a rough draft of a presentation, polishing it on their Mac.  I recently created a presentation on the iPad (first generation) and presented it (with the VGA adapter) at a conference. I was sure I would need to move it to my Mac at some point, but for the builds and transitions I wanted, Keynote for iPad had all the features I needed.  Later I viewed it on my Mac and it looked and worked fine.

  • Using Automator/Applescript with Keynote?

For a series of presentations I'm creating, on practically every slide, I have to delete a picture, then paste the replacement on the slide, resize that item, and reposition it on the slide (at the same location).
This seemed like a perfect use for Automator, and I recorded my steps in Automator, but I ran into a couple of questions after that.
    1) When I'm in Keynote, I don't see a command to run a script.
    2) I'm looking at the automation that was created, and the workflow includes "Type 600 px into the text field." But I'm concerned that I don't see anywhere in the workflow that specifies what property is being edited at that point.
    Chuck

    Thanks chuck,
I never thought to use Automator before but may give it a try now.
I'm pretty new to AS so don't quote me, I know some apps have a File Menu command to run scripts but in general *** are run from the script menu on RHS of Menubar, perhaps you need to activate a pref for that I can'r remeber how I got mine there. Applescripts can be run with Keynote but have limited use. It seems to me there is no property dictionary for Keynote items.
But i did find this snippet in somebody's applescript suggesting interaction via keyboard shortcuts is possible. Also controlling the slideshow is definitely support by the application dictionary.
    tell application “Keynote“
      activate
    end tell
    tell application “System Events“
      tell process “Keynote“
        keystroke “v“ using {command down}
      end tell
    end tell

  • Find and replace smart quotes with straight quotes?

I understand I can turn off smart quotes so that I can type straight quotes, but I need to replace hundreds of curly smart quotes with straight quotes, is there a feature that will let me do this? I am using FM8.
    Thanx,
    Willian

I am using FM9....so I don't know if the same shortcuts apply, but this is what I found out last week.
Use the Find and Replace tool:
With smart quotes turned off and the Num Lock key turned on:
Alt0147 will give you beginning quotation marks
Alt0148 will give you ending quotation marks
In the Find box use ALT0147 or ALT0148 for the beginning or ending quotes. When you click in the box and type
one of the shortcuts the correct quote will be shown in the box.
In the replace box type the regular straight quotes on your keyboard.
I was thrilled that it would work!...course you do have to do them separately and be careful not to replace the curly quotes
that you want to leave in your document.
    Hope this helps using FM8....

  • I am having a major problem saving with keynote 6.2.

I recently bought a new MacBook which came with Keynote 6.2 preinstalled. I can make and save presentations in it fine. But when I later go to open those presentations with the exact same Keynote program I make them in, I get an error message saying I need a newer version of Keynote to open those files. I've double checked and my version of Keynote is fully updated, so I don't know what newer version it could be talking about. Can anyone explain how it's even possible to save in a file format that the program can't open? At the very least does anyone know how to change the default file format for saving?
